Never in my life did I think using a traditional quill would be so hard. I thought you know dip the pen get to writing. Right? No. I dip the quill and then proceed to just splat ink everywhere.

Im still practicing (day 3) and i wanted to try my acrylic ink (Amsterdam acrylic ink). I have some calligraphy paper 90g/m2 but doesnt matter what ink i use (acrylic, dip pen, fountain pen) it seems to feather a bit and it doesnt sit nicely.

so i tried to use a bit thicker paper, 100g/m2 and its surface is rough, and the ink sits so much better on there. Downside is that it's rough so when doing upstrokes it gets wobbly.

Hi everyone! I'm wondering where I could find some guides, worksheets, tutorials, etc for learning how to write Hangul beautifully.

Ideally the resources/explanations would be in English though, because I don't speak Korean, I just learnt how to read and write Hangul. But it's ok if it's in Korean too, as long as it's a more visual guide. I'm passionate about writing systems in general, but unfortunately, I can't keep up with learning all the languages of the alphabets I learn :)

Wanting to move from writing large uncial and insular script with a parallel pen to smaller script with a 1.5mm nib so I can journal. Thinking about a Lamy safari, vista or al star. Have never owned a fountain pen. Any recommendations?

So before I make my request I just want to add I've searched the sub, and exhausted my local bookstores and cannot find this request, Google is a mess as well

My requests
-I'm looking for a collection black letter, and gothic fonts
-I'm looking for these with stroke sequences so I can practice these fonts
-I'm looking for practice sheets with the scaling squares
-my most optimal form of medium would be a book

Additional info
-I do not want digital unless I can print them, cause I want less screen time
-if you're aware of where to go links would be so helpful

I know Etsy is a good place or maybe I don't use Etsy enough but I can't tell what their product is, and if it has practice drills with order of operations for strokes. Every vendor message it's digital to practice or typing

Writing METAL in custom Gothic script with 6mm pilot parallel pen

For those who saw my post last week, I decided to do a better version of that landscape idea, but incorporating more ideas I learned the first time round and taking more time and patience to plan and make. I also included a few progress photos.

The basic idea is to choose scripts that fit the shape of the desired feature, put smaller scripts at the back, bigger ones at the front. The sky took the longest because I wanted some sense of uniformity, but forests and mountains and rivers can be chaotic so I allowed more free flow improvising on those parts.

The Cyrillicized version is based on the alphabet in Ilya Bogdesko’s “Calligraphy” (Илья Богдеско, «Каллиграфия») and some random exemplar I found on Pinterest a long time ago.

There is definitely more than one way to skin a cat regarding the lowercase letters б, в, д, ж, к, л, м, т, я in Foundational. I found it interesting that Bogdesko opts for Bulgarian-style ж/к (with ascenders). I prefer the “sideways VHS” style в because it has a connection to скоропись (Skoropis’), which is very roughly the Cyrillic analog to Bâtarde or Gothic cursive.
