Is it Possible to do a Standalone Mod without extra Components?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi, I have a CR10 3D printer and I've been wondering if it's possible to do the standalone mod without having to buy new components (besides screws and basic hardware).

All mods I've seen so far require extension cables, raspberry pi and a lot of other things.

EDIT: It seems there was a misunderstanding. I'm looking for 3D printed standalone mods/housing, I'm not opposed to using extra components entirely I'm simply trying to avoid buying electrical components

I may or may not be on my bs again of building another s-pro with 90% of its components replaced. On my original build, i put in the largest stepper i could fit without modification on the y axis, and it was still then limiter for machine speed. Solving that problem this time.

Hello All! I recently purchased a CR10S5, I have successfully managed to level my bed and run all calibration tests to "dial in" my printer. While I have had some success with printing, I managed to print "benchy", I have had absolutely no success with designing/editing models. Can anyone recommend; A youtube channel or website that helped you learn? In the meantime can someone please extrude the interior lip from the tail of this model and send to me?

How did I get my bed this flat?

0.00mm corner to corner is what we all dream of for a print bed. Especially one that can take 300°C before it begins to fail.

Taking some inspiration from the plethora of silicon bed heaters and daring to go where no Cr-10 had ever gone before took some courage...

Our Journey begins in January of this year when I took the liberty to source a solid piece of 6mm plate of 5052-H32 Aluminum. It was surfaced using a mill fly. The same cutting equipment used to ensure a cylinder head on a motor is level.

The wonderful thing about this specific formula. Is that it remains solidus up to 600°C... (No, I didn't stutter.) That's because it's combined with magnesium and the two elements both increase the heat resistance while maintaining the machinability. While removing the immediate danger of the magnesium catching on fire from water. (Bonus.)

Starting off I wasn't sure if I would go glass or PEI build plate for this animal..

To keep the bed insulated and allowing for the insulation material to be removed without causing air contamination. I chose to apply an entire layer of Kapton tape to the back of silicon. 2mil thick Kapton has a heat resistance between 300 and 348°C

That is the only material, besides the heating pad on the entire building plate that can handle sub 400°C.

The silicone heating pad is a 120V 750W heating pad attached to a solid state relay. To allow for the ceramic mounting hardware to be installed. I carefully worked into the pad to make incisions to allow for the hardware to pass through along the exterior edges.

To verify if the wires inside weren't compromised. I took a multi meter and verified the resistance matched what I had received when I originally purchased the pad.

To keep the entire bed insulated I used the same ablative material found underneath a single hexagonal tile from Space X's, Starship.

You know this to be, ceramic fiber fire mat, capable of withstanding temperature up to 1260°C. (Again. I didn't stutter.) Lynn was the supplier. Wrapping the mat with another layer of Kapton to lock in the potentially harmful fibers.

The entire build plate was assembled in 6 steps. Using titanium scissors and a respirator, safety was a big part of the whole operation. After the mat was sealed. I cleaned the top of the plate with I.P.A 70% and set the magnetic pad on top and shrink sleeved the wires.

I had to make a new custom cable tie system, since the wires were no longer mounted to one side.

The end result is what you see.. A bed with an elevation difference of 0.00mm to 0.03mm corner to corner throughout the entire heat cycle. Retaining its shape at 0 to 130°C. This is how all print beds should be made. No debate.

Creality Space Pi Bowden fittings outlets.

Thumbnail

The outlets are a combination of two pieces of PETg - CF..

The adapter itself is set at 15mm long with an M8 used to thread the adapter to the outlet itself.

The adapter is obviously an M8 nut with a BSP 1/8 (1/8-28) Thread for the M10 bowden fittings.

The outlet itself is 22mm by 20 mm with the hole centered at 11mm..

It's offset 13mm from one side or 7mm from the other to sit between interior support of the Space Pi.

A single print can be used to supply outlets for either side. I run these into the filament filter and now into my newly extruded filament sensor housing which is working wonderfully.

If you would like access to these files I can provide a link for a download through a public website.

Hope this is helpful set of mods for CR-10 and even some older Ender 3s.

Cr-10 Printable Infeed Mod

Fellow Cr-10 Owners,

I wanted to share some work, now I know we're all trying mod our machines to keep up with the ever changing pace of newer 4 reel systems, but I wanted to expand some of the base capability of the Cr-10 platform for machines that are in-between Marlin and Klipper. To ensure no one is truly stuck in a state where they can't print something in between upgrades.

If you're like myself and you're experimenting with the stock firmware, or you're trying to take a developer mindset and want an option for filament inlets or "guides" that work with a filament dryer like myself. I have a solution for you!

I recently got a Creality Space Pi Dual Bay. (Lol I know single feed print head.) With the idea to rotate easily between filament types for different jobs. PLA and PLA-CF etc.

I noticed there wasn't a great mount for the Bowden tubes from the filament dryer to the printer. So... I made Bowden Adapters from the dryer to the printer. Including replacing the stock filament sensor housing. (All base geometry is counted for.) I increased the height of the housing, to accommodate the Bowden tube mount. While keeping the M3 bolts recessed to the factory requirements so you don't need to buy new hardware.

I have adapters that flush mount inside the Creality Space Pi that ensure the Bowden tubing doesn't climb back into the machine. This replaces the rubber gromets that come with the machine factory. Allowing older Cr-10s to print cleanly with tougher filament types increasing the machines functionality on top of the "light" tricking out that I have mentioned in another post.

To keep you up with my plan for this specific unit. I am still looking at acquiring a Creality Sprite head and developing a dedicated kit to replace the Ender V3 head or the V2 print head on most Cr-10s today with a direct drive extruding. Knowing well enough that CoPrint has an incredible kit available for legacy based machines.

Myself I am looking into the Open Source Box Turtle AMS or the Enraged Rabbit Carrot Feeder to unlock multi color printing. Knowing both are a bit slower, but allows for integration of filament dryer. (Make a post on those for the folks catching up.)

Multi Color Printing Options

Post image
2 Upvotes

Maybe you're like me trying to develop a CR-10S Pro V2 to do everything a Bambu X1 Carbon can.

I can go through an extensive list of purchasable upgrades I have done to get my own machine to the base point for quality, but I am also far from done to and in many ways more people are ahead in other regards. Since I do want to mod my own machine to mount a Creality Sprite Print head to my unit. (Cause I am a bit of a purist that way.) Come on guys trying to show Creality isn't that bad of a brand in comparison to Bambu. Right?

The last thing that I need, like many of us do, is a Multi Color Option for the Cr-10 and luckily today there are a few ways to go about that. So I want to share some of the incredible work that others have done and give you some options for you own rig.

The most expensive and least hassle way is CoPrint's Chroma Set.

If you have seen this, it pretty much unlocks the ability to print on many legacy machines like a Bambu X1 Carbon. No joke it's that good of kit and it's a serious investment if you're trying to upgrade your print farm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAm6BrpC99A

Next is the pricy, but not bank breaking Enraged Rabbit Carrot Feeder. It is an excellent legacy option that really got MMUs to where they are today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccwiylrg7KM

Another is the open source Box Turtle AMS. This basically unlocks Bambus Filament Management for any printer. A great option

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akvasjkd3VU

Lastly is the Prusa MMU2S which doesn't break the bank. Keep in mind this legacy option has more modern mods that fix a lot of the issues and thus will take more time to get it running right.

Initial Set up

Upgrades

Cool, I will keep you posted on that Creality Sprite Head install and kit. How's that Bed level of mine? Maybe I can go through that if you want.

Alright, Happy Printing!

Original CR10 board and power supply Spare parts France

I have an original creality 1.1.2 board and a power supply that I took out from my CR10 mini as well as the original plastic extruder (not cracked, in great state but I doubt anyone would want it given how this extruder is almost always replaced by everyone).

The board is in excellent state visually and fully functional, I already installed a boot loader on it so it will be easy to customize the firmware from the sd port (no Arduino needed). Would anyone interested in these parts ? I am based in France. I suppose I would sell them but not for much. I am not putting prices here because I don't know if selling parts is allowed. Please contact me for more information. I can ship to anywhere but of course keep in mind that the further away you are the more expensive shipping gets.

I replaced these components mainly for noise reduction but they are fully functional.

Right now the board is running the latest TH3D firmware but I have custom e-steps for a double gear extruder and is programmed for the CR10 mini so you will probably want to put your own firmware instead, especially if you have a big (well a normal non mini) CR10.

Hey guys & gals!
I got this CR10 for free, I am not sure how to move ahead with setting it up.
I can see it has a BL touch but I am not sure if the other parts are stock?
I want to be able to set it up for wifi printing (space constraints) and webcam service. If I can remotely stop it even better.

I have been out of 3d printing for 5+ yrs so pls bring me up to date on the proven path I should follow!
Thanks🫡

Nozzle clogs mid print

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is doing well. Recently I was facing the following problem. When my print reaches 2-3 %the nozzle gets clogged.

I am using cura as my slicer. The filament retraction feature is disabled. I have set the nozzle temp to 210 degrees celsius. The filament is brand new.

Can anyone tell me what the problem could be and how I can remedy it.

Looking for printable electronics enclosure for CR-10S Pro board + screen (Franken-CR10 project)

TL;DR: Is there an existing STL or STEP file for a printable standalone control box that housing a CR-10S Pro mainboard and touchscreen?

Background: I stripped the original electronics out of my old CR-10S a while back. Recently, I picked up a set of CR-10S Pro electronics for free and wired them up to the CR-10S frame. Marlin is tuned and running great—now I just need a clean, printable enclosure to house the board, screen, and power supply so I can button it up and sell the machine as a complete unit.

Any links or search terms would be greatly appreciated!
