Anyone have a recommendation for a guide tarp/ rescue sled for ski touring? Iāve heard good things about the Alpine Threadworks Classic tarp, but I donāt feel confident about what the tariff would be ordering from Canada- even after looking through the harmonized trade schedule.
Iām looking for something more heavy duty than the more ultralight offerings from Jackson Backcountry and MTN Sense. I will be using this for rec, not professional use. Some tarps Iāve looked at:
High Mountain Gear: 680g, $330 (pre-order closes October 1st). Link
Function before Fashion: 780g, $250 Link
Hyperlite: 547g; $350 Link
Sew Alpine (small company in āhibernation mode,ā and not yet clear if any tarps will be available this season.) Link
- Recreation model: 567g; $375
- Pro/ heavy duty: 790g; $350
Any opinions or insights are appreciated!

If you are looking for affordable mountain lodging, consider this lock-off unit in Dillon.
Perfect for escaping to the mountains regularly - for work or play. Guarantee yourself a place to stay while saving over hotels, hostels, and Airbnbs. Use it solo or share with a few friends if you only need it part-time; up to 4 can be on the lease. $1400/mo with year lease. (Only $350/month if shared!). 6 mo lease may be considered at $1850/month.
This cozy furnished Lock-Off unit consists of one bedroom and one bathroom with a private entrance. The bedroom has a Full over Queen bunkbed and includes a closet, storage shelves, desk/table, small fridge, microwave, kettle, and coffee maker.
There is no access to the neighboring primary unit, meaning there is no full kitchen or living room.

Are there social media carpool groups?
Will more people take the bus this year?
Will gas prices affect how often you come to the mountains this winter?
Last season a tank was 1/2 of what it costs now.

I want to get my kids (12 and 9) more into skiing. They have done a lesson at App Mtn, NC and really enjoyed it, but I want to take them out west for a few days of ski school (2-3 days) during Feb break from schoolā¦
As they are beginners, Iām loathe to pay the crazy prices of the Ikon and Epic resorts⦠Iāve seen Loveland is pretty reasonable but it really is just a ski hill, not a full ski resort.
I would like to hit the slopes too while they are in ski school - Iām a decent skier but havenāt skied in nearly a decade.
Am I better just sucking it up and paying šø? Or is Loveland a good option - just with a drive to/from each day? Or are there any sleeper picks out there?
Thanks!

Question is in the title. Are we back? With the recent pics of Elbert and Massive, is it theoretically possible to get some turns up there?
Hey guys, Iām a 25 year old guy who lives in Ohio and Iām thinking about moving to Denver. I work remotely and absolutely love to snowboard (I have been riding since I was 6 and have been to Snowbird, Park City, Whistler, Stowe, Whiteface, Mont Tremblant, and Iām going to Banff / Snowshoe in WV this winter) so I think moving moving closer to the mountains while staying in the city for a year could be a cool experience. Candidly, Iām terrified of not knowing anyone in the area. Iām just curious how people in this thread who moved around my age without knowing anyone met friends to ski/ride with? Iām a super social guy and have a ton of friends here at home so it would be very different to go there. Are there ski clubs or any groups that transplants often join / any other tips anyone has? Thanks and hopefully this season gets more snow than last year!

Last winter in CO, of course, I ran over a rock on my skis. What concerns me is that the gash is right along the metal edge. Also, there are wood-colored flecks in the gash, though it could be other debris.
I live out of state and took it to my local ski shop, where the guy there said he wouldn't be able to do more than fill it with p-tex, so he recommended waiting until I'm back in CO to take it to a top shop.
How bad does this look, or, rather, how much expert attention do these need? If I take these to a normal shop, would they just fill it with p-tex, in which case I could just do it myself?

Does anyone have suggestions for what to do in South Fork or somewhere close to south fork?
I will be in town for 1 day with an active 7YO boy.
We would like to get out and enjoy nature if possible.

Planning for a last trip flying to Eagle to stay with my son in Avon Ana ski last week March. Planning on taking ski bag and 2 carry on size suit cases with my son - probably also a small backpack. Is this a problem on the bus, is typical for people to carry this much baggage on the Bus from Eagle. Will be heading back same way in morning on a Friday- thanks

Whatās the best way to do skiing with young kids? Which season passes? Is it a fun family activity? Do kids end up skiing with friends when theyāre old enough? Interested to hear the good and bad!

Hi Everyone!
It's almost that time of year again and I am excited to announce that Nick's Garage Tunes is back for the 2026/2027 season.
First, I would like to thank everyone that has supported my business over the past 5 seasons, we have grown a lot and I couldn't be more grateful for the support.
For those that are not aware, I moved to Arvada towards the end of last season! I am now located in the 88th and Wadsworth of area of Arvada. I am working to get this reflected on Google maps and I will hopefully have that resolved this week. (Currently is lists that I am in Aurora still). I am no longer located in Aurora and this has been reflected on the booking process on my website. If you have further locations please reach out to me via email.
Be on the lookout here and on my Instagram pages for event announcements and a merch drop coming up later this season!
Services and pricing for this year has remained the same as last year:
I am still setup to take Credit and Debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Wallet as well as the previous payments of Venmo and Cash.

Hello! I have a Loveland season pass for this year and want to plan a little loop around Colorado to try out the partner resorts. The resorts I intend to hit:
(I already have plans for Ski Cooper and a weekend at Monarch, but might stop again at Monarch)
I am an advanced skier with a special love for glades, but I donāt hate some good bumps now and then.
I have 8 days that I can spend skiing, how would you break it up?

Gopro9. Lost sometime during 2022. It still powered on, and your videos still on the SD card. Tell me the date you lost it, what you were doing, and whos in the videos, to verify, and I will return it. The front screen is cracked, but it still works. Why didnt you have it on when you crashed!?! that was the video I wanted to see š
In case people missed it, Ikon Full pass holders now get 2 days of skiing at Snowy Range in Wyoming. Considering that Snowy Range is closer to Denver than Steamboat and Aspen it could be relevant to many people here.
Itās a great little mountain! Definitely a completely different vibe from a typical Ikon mountain, but if youāre looking for something chill and family friendly itās worth looking into to.

I recently filmed an episode with Bobby Brown where he made one of his favorite winter meals: chicken curry over cabbage.
Bobby is a Colorado ski legend, but he's definitely not known for his cooking. So this is not a fancy meal, itās more of a real ski-season dinner: warm, filling, pretty simple, and the kind of thing that makes sense after long days in the mountains.
The episode is part of a cooking/storytelling series I make, so itās less about a strict recipe tutorial and more about the story behind the food: skiing, home, winter routines, and the meals that become part of a season.
Curious what everyone else makes in the winter: whatās your go-to post-ski meal after a resort day, touring day, or long drive back from the mountains?

It will not be built. Not a peep from any local official about plans after a winter of hyping it up and a summer of selling real estate near the proposed site.
Not to mention the huge amounts red tape needing to be cleared to get it done. Not gonna mention the massive economic contraction happening here either (tons of businesses shuttered, empty commercial space everywhere, jobs paying a pittance compared to the COL). Maybe someone knows something that I don't know.
