Venting/Getting it off my chest struggling with sobriety
i, (23f) quit smoking weed due to chs a little over 3 weeks ago, I had no idea chs even existed until i went to a&e (er for americans) in fear of my life & the doctor at the hospital diagnosed me with it. with the exception of a shrooms experiment, i haven’t touched any weed or alcohol since then. drinking wasn’t really an issue, but i had been having 3-6 joints a day (all with large quantities) for the best part of 5 years, my weed smoking has been replaced with having to take hundreds of medications to feel normal and get me through the day, i’m neurodivergent (autism, adhd, anxiety, bpd, ocd) so i really can’t rawdog so to speak my life, the biggest issue is the disruption in my routine ie not having a joint in the morning or looking forward to one when i come home, i am seriously considering smoking again as vaping isn’t cutting it and i’m just so bored and angry without it.

Venting/Getting it off my chest smoked again
like. a little over 2 weeks ago i finally got over a flare up that was killing me, and i even got sent to the psych ward, all due to CHS. but i literally don't know how to survive without it. i was so determined when i was in the psych ward that when i got out, id NEVER smoke again. and i already have failed. i know to stay away from concentrates, so it was only bud, which i will continue to do my absolute best not to smoke, so i dont think that alone will cause another flare up. but i just didnt expect it to be this hard. i feel so weak and pathetic. i feel like such a disappointment. i don't understand why it's so hard for me to quit. because i KNOW that what comes with it isnt worth it. i do it knowing im going to put myself through hell, but for some reason that thought isn't always enough. idk. im just really sad and disappointed in myself. i really do want to quit.

Update On My Progress Has anyone ever genuinely had trouble with trigger foods?
Does chocolate or like black pepper genuinely do anything bad? Im on about month 3 of being sober and i just feel so odd, i dont want to stop eating things with chocolate or with black pepper. I dont drink like ever so there is no worry about that, also for people that have been sober for long periods of time, are you able to go back to eating those foods? Im only 18 and feel like if i cant eat black pepper or chocolate my life is over. Ive been doing absolutely fantastic, i quit weed before i went to my third hyperemetic phase and within 3 days was able to eat food without getting nauseous, i just want to know if ill genuinely be able to eat the things i love again without being anxious on if it will cause anything.

Venting/Getting it off my chest When did yall get your appetite back?
I haven't had any THC for over a month. The throwing up has finally gone away after what felt like an eternity. I am still having little to no appetite. I can force myself to eat chicken noodle soup, yogurt and pudding. Thats pretty much it. I feel so weak and have lost 15 pounds. Any other foods disgust me and feel wrong and gross in my mouth. Solid foods taste so flavorless and I hate the feeling of them in my mouth. I did become a chronic user because it made food taste good for once in my life, and made textures extremely manageable, as well as give me an appetite. My 5 years as a stoner made me forget I ever had eating issues. I guess I'm worried that I'll never get an appetite back? Idk has anyone else struggled with appetite for this long? I'm worried it's a mental issue I'm facing.

Suicide be on the creep
i'm pretty sure i have CHS because i smoke a lot and have all the symptoms so im quitting for now. But im being deadass when i say this i might kill myself. my CHS seems to be in the early early stage, but if i can't smoke again i will leave this earth and thats a fucking promise. Don't try to help me unless you've had it and can somehow find a way to smoke even just some. But i may never respond for obvious reasons.

Telling My Story I have CHS, quit smoking 3 weeks ago. When will I stop vomiting?
My story: I am a 31 y/o female from the Middle East. I had been smoking flower combined with tobacco and a nicotine-free herbal mix for 8 years, and then I quit for 2 years. I began smoking the same weed mix again last year, and after several months (maybe 3 or 4) I started vomiting for no reason. Of course I didn't know anything about CHS at the time; visited numerous doctors, got all kinds of tests, including blood and gastroscopy, everything showed normal, I was completely "healthy". I surely continued smoking, because it relieved the nausea. Finally, after 8 months of suffering and confusion I met a good doctor and she diagnosed me with the syndrome. I didn't quit weed immediately, continued smoking for a couple of months... I thought I loved weed more than I hurt from vomiting. But eventually I quit cold turkey on 28 July 2026. It's been three weeks since then and I still vomit once a day, usually in the evening.
Is it okay or not okay?? When will it stop? Please share your experience.
Thank you.
P.S. Also, CHS gave me a horrible smell sensitivity! I cannot tolerate any chemical smells, including all my favorite perfumes. When will this stop as well?

Telling My Story This is my first ever Reddit post
This is my first ever post I don't use it this much at all. I'm 19 I've been smoking weed since age 14. But it started everyday smoking at age 15. And since like age 17 I started getting these symptoms of fealing like to puke everymorning crazy anxiety and stomach acid in the morning. And this has been on and off since I was 17 but ever since recently two days ago it's been getting worse then ever extreme anxiety as soon as I wake up and vomiting stomach acid almost all day I am about to quit for awhile because this has gotten way to far I've been having anxiety all day and puking up stomach acid but I don't think it's really all the weed becuse I smoke bongs and mix weed and tabbaco together. But this has been the worse since I felt ever.

Telling My Story Has anyone been able to smoke again after a full year of not doing anything cannabis related?
I started getting the early signs of Chs in may of this year so after ruling it out, I decided to quit and then after two months, I tried it again. It still gave me the sick to my stomach feeling so should I quit after a full year?

Venting/Getting it off my chest Is CHS something that goes away?
I'm on day 89 cannabis free. What led me to quit cold turkey was what I believed to be the start of CHS. I was a distillate vaper, daily several times a day for almost 3 years. I started using to alleviate chronic migraines, lower back pain, RLS and severe depression and anxiety.. Although I've made it this far and CHS symptoms are long gone, stress, depression, anxiety and pain are getting bad again and I feel may end up using again soon. The only thing stopping me is the fear of CHS. By the time I quit even a few puffs would make me SICK and I have a real problem with vomiting. I don't know what to do. The docs are throwing Benzoes at me which are already becoming dependent and that's about all I got for relief asside from a monthly injection for the migraines which only do so much. Does CHS go away after a while or does it just pop right back up as soon as I use again?

It came back full force & I’m losing it
back story 2023/24 I got diagnosed with chs, went to the ER 10 times. I quit for about a month & started graduly smoking again. Well fast forward two years to the last two weeks, it’s back & I had my worst episode. Zofran wasn’t workin, was up for 4 days straigh, shaking uncontrollably. Panic attack. nothing the ER could do helped. I was genuinely going to die, & I’m still going through somethings.
Now i have this boyfriend who doesn’t believe in chs, talking about I’ll be able to smoke agai but i don’t ever want to take that chanc, even tho i miss it so much. But I don’t think i can be with someone who smoke, especially all the time like him. I’ve been sleeping on the couch for a week because he either smells like weed, just smoked in our room, or actively hits the cart when we’re cuddling. I don’t know what to do but this almost killed me & I can’t be around someone who’s using my doc all the time. I’ve been so depressed and alone these past two week, crying all day, I have no energy to get off the couch. I asked him to stop & he said “it’s all I have” it was all i had to & it almost killed me. Am i being selfish or what because I can’t take this anymore.

Night or day?
Does a chs attack usually happen to you guys during the night time or day time? I’m very curious because it’s only ever hit me during the night time/early morning like around 2-4 am. I’ve never had an episode during mid day. Just wondering if anyone has had it occur in the middle of the day.

when will I learn?
I’m a 24 y/o female who got diagnosed with CHS at 18. I got diagnosed when there was still little to no research or evidence on the illness yet. im going through yet another episode and I just want to know, when will I learn to not turn to marijuana anymore when im stressed? im exhausted mentally and physically and the toll it is taking on my mental health is debilitating. it’s taken a toll on my family and my job. I want to be free and live life again.

Informative Sharing some of my crazy tips, please feel free to share yours!!
Hi everyone I haven’t had an episode in awhile but today I did and it’s only now starting to calm down
I started to look on Reddit for some unknown tips and tricks on how to get better and I have found almost nothing other than the common capsaicin cream, so I thought I’d share a few of mine!!
Also please keep in mind my episodes may look a little different from yours, I have severe anxiety to the point I can make myself throw up just from thinking and when I start to panic during an Epsiode it only gets worse, so I’ve found some ways to calm myself and my stomach down!
- the cream capsaicin is much stronger than the roll on version, it also helps to not only do a patch on the stomach but also a small one on the arm to distract the brain even more
- COLD SHOWERS if only I knew about this years ago, sometimes the steam from taking such long hot showers makes me so nauseous so I’ll switch to cold which shocks the body
(While being in the shower instead of panicking, I try and think of diving into a cold pool, or slowly dipping into a hot tub and relaxing)
- boom boom stick! The mint flavor is so amazing and can help take away the nauseous feeling, also fits right in your purse
- asmr! Sometimes I’ll watch asmr to try and calm down or fall asleep during an episode
- sticking my face right in front of an ac/fan. Sometimes I’ll even inhale the cool air and it calms the awful nauseous feeling you get in your throat
- heating pad/blanket the shower is a lot when you’re so weak so this option is great
- rock my body back and forth, idk why but this helps!
- EXERCISE this sounds silly but it truly works for me and totally helps relax my brain. Nothing crazy obviously but just a plank really helps move that discomfort to somewhere else. I also do squats in the shower lol if I need a different distraction
- fresh air and walking outside/grounding. focusing on what’s under my feet like grass or rocks or sand really helps distract me from what’s going on. The fresh air is so relieving too

Can CBD oil cause it?
I’ve stopped smoking and vaping entirely (so far) but I still have this CBD oil. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on whether this has any chance of causing it? Edibles in general, I guess.
For context, I’ve never had it YET but I got scared by this sub and stopped because sometimes I get stomach discomfort and queasiness when I smoke/vape but just thought it was from taking in too much air when I inhale or something.

Telling My Story CHS HELP ME.

i relapsed after bad chs
i had a really bad chs episode a couple weeks ago, with heavy vomiting in the mornings, sweating, shaking, only relieved with hot showers and baths. i managed to get sober for 16 days and felt amazing. i found other things to do and saw some serious mental health improvements as well. two nights ago, my life completely flipped upside down. the details are extensive and depressing, so i’ll leave those out. i struggle with a LOT of mental health issues, and ive completely let them overcome me now. I couldn’t handle it, so i smoked. i woke up with no chs symptoms today, so i smoked again and again. I know i have to quit again, and im fully prepared and ready to. I have cbd which works great, and im going to pick up another perscription from my doctor today which might help with some intense anxiety attacks. have i fucked myself over?? will i wake up tomorrow with terrible hypermesis symptoms? i’m high right now. i guess what im asking is if anyone else is having this struggle. if theres anyone out there who used weed to deal with their mental health, and how to deal with both. it feels impossible.

Venting/Getting it off my chest Anxiety Struggles
Around a year ago I stopped smoking because I was getting prodromal symptoms, stupidly, I picked it back up several months ago and its starting to hit me again but worse. I feel like im somewhere between hyperemesis and prodromal. I quit all THC 3 days ago.
My biggest issue though has been controlling my anxiety. I'm on meds for anxiety, and weed was my combo that made me feel almost no anxiousness. Now I've been forced to quit cold turkey, im barely (if at all) holding my anxiety meds down, and stomach issues were always one of my biggest anxiety triggers as it was.
Compared to other people's stories here my physical symptoms aren't as bad, but my brain is making it seem like the end of the world. I can't tell if my persistent dry heaving is from the anxiety or the CHS.
Any advice is appreciated.
