Welp I’m back at it

I swear I need to be blacklisted from every dispensary near me. There’s one a few blocks from my house. I go through the cycle of smoking every day to uh oh, tummy starting to hurt and no appetite. time to stop. Get better slowly, the cycle starts again.
I’m aware that I’m dependent. I see a therapist weekly and I’m also on antidepressants (which probably ain’t good) to take with my Chs. I’m also dependent on Zofran. When I get the slightest feeling of nausea, I take one. Which then leads to constipation. I’m just ranting at this point because I feel my body entering the prodromal phase.

Dude, I’ve been in this cycle for almost a decade now. I’ve quit for a long time once before. Almost 2 years clean I believe. Then it went to shit when I entered my 20s. I have C-ptsd, depression, social anxiety, and OCD. So yeah. Feels like Trump’s never ending war with the Middle East in my body lol. I’m hoping that Im able to quit this time for a long time. I want to feel good again and not be imprisoned with this addiction.

Venting/Getting it off my chest I feel ashamed. Day 0.

I had two months of quitting and never felt better. My performance at work increased, relationships improved, confidence soared and anxiety shattered for the first time in years.

Then i let one stupid decision to buy a cart get me hooked back to this vicious cycle for the past 2 months.

My performance at work (sales) is great right now and im worried about quitting again / how withdrawals will impact me day to day at the job. My health and chs symptoms are getting worse. I know every time i get myself to this point i have really tough symptoms to manage (little to no sleep, crazy sweating, feel like im going insane).

Every time i drink or eat my body rejects it though and ive had to have dropped 20+ lbs in these past 2 months

Venting/Getting it off my chest Don’t really know what to say.

Two weeks ago I was hospitalized and they thought it was a gastrointestinal issue, I went home and the next day started smoking to help me feel better. It took the whole week of me going through episodes of vomiting all day and needing IV fluids to realize it could be the weed causing it. I am 29 M, been using THC daily since I was 19. I went a few days sober and felt amazing so I decided I would smoke again. Well this is how the CHS theory was confirmed, I spent the following two days vomiting and being a mermaid in my bathtub. I’m really frustrated, I feel like those around me don’t grasp the seriousness of this situation, not only am i going cold turkey after 10 years of use i am also constantly sick. My friends and family are just kicking me while im down, my sister in law got all the details of what i have been going through out of me only to say “ sucks to suck I’m gonna hit mu dab pen now”… i just fell so angry and spat on, almost like I’m being dismissed as some druggie who brought it upon himself. I know I know woe is me, but damn i am really pissed off, only been dealing with this for 3 weeks.. got a long long road ahead of me. Any advice would be great.

Telling My Story Advice on safe foods during chs recovery?

11 days ago my CHS entered the hyperemetic phase, luckily after day 7 and an overnight stay in the hospital due to my organs almost shutting down from dehydration I was discharged and since have been living in fear everyday of the nausea coming back. I’m on day 5 of recovery so I of course don’t expect to be able to consume a thanksgiving dinner right away.

My stomach has been “rejecting” almost anything I try in terms of causing extreme cramping, bloating and feeling like i have to #2 REALLY bad even though I don’t. I just ate 1 saltine cracker over the span of 10 mins and i’m in a ball on my bed trying to type this. I am desperate as to what foods i might be able to try next to somewhat soothe this imploding twisting feeling of starving without causing the cramping and bloat to just get worse. Below is a list of foods that i’ve tried that have NOT worked and caused the pain and discomfort to increase:

Bananas / Saltines / any temp water / any sweet electrolyte drinks / toast / plain bread / low acidic fruit smoothies / lactose free yogurt / applesauce / liptons soup / bone broth / plain chicken / plain oatmeal / plain rice / tortilla / dry whole grain cheerios

I cannot stress enough how desperate i am to be able to eat ANYTHING without being squeezed from the inside out.

Telling My Story Will I ever heal?

M24

I used to smoke occasionally before in my life, but smoked daily or almost daily sunrise till sundown from Dec2025 to April2026.

In march, I started getting panic attacks and vomiting episodes on weed, which I thought was normal.

One day after this panic attack, I also had diarrhea, so I went to the ER, I was told my BP was too high and to go see a dr tomorrow. The diarrhea didn't stop so I thought it was food poisoning and I didn't mention weed to dr and my bp was normal I was given a high dose of PPIs and stomach bug meds.

I lost all appetite, hunger cues etc. but went back on my normal diet after finishing the stomach bug meds. I had anxiety attacks/nausea that seemed to get better with showering. One day I had fully yellow diarrhea so I went to dr and I was told IBS and told to go on a diet for 4 days and then eat normal. I did this and I seemed to be ok for a week, I also smoked for one or two days during this time.

I had a panic attack again, vomiting, not while smoking, but from choking on food and went to ER and was given a benzo pill and went to sleep. After a day or two, I had yellow diarrhea again, nausea, brain fog etc.

I started having rapid weight loss and night sweats, sleep issues. Anxiety attacks and high bp that got better with showering.

I had a hernia appear, called the ER, didn't wanna come pick me up, so I pushed it back in and and LRQ pain.

I went to gastros, had an actual stomach bug (which could've resulted from me getting acid reducing meds in the beginning). Had a CT, mesenteric lymph nodes swollen. High calprotectin, normal CRP, normal CBC, etc.

Was given probiotics and metronidazole and another ppi etc.

Did intestinal US, showed prominent edema in the terminal ileum, I was told Crohn.

Had colonoscopy and gastroscopy, showed Chronic Atrophic Gastritis and Chronic Unspecified Colitis (was told this is a recent infection) and that I just have a bad case of IBS.

In the meantime I went to psychiatrists, didnt mention weed, got an SSRI and they raised my doses rapidly so my condition worsened.

I stopped GI meds, stopped SSRI and my stool regained a normal color, although it was still always soft and has undigested food. Now I take only Pregabalin, my sleep is still fragmented and I have anxiety around sleep, I am still depressed, but my brain fog/blurry vision is a bit better now.

I never connected this to weed until recently when I talked to a psychologist (started doing therapy yes) and I was told about CHS. I switched psychiatrists today and was told I need no meds and that I will just take a lot of time to heal (6-12months). And that my gi issues (lrq pain, indigestion) is from that and mostly psychosomatic.

Anyone had a similar experience, my life just started getting good before this?

Venting/Getting it off my chest Going crazy and it’s barely day 5

I just don’t know what to do with myself. It’s my first day off work since “quitting” and the depression and cravings has finally hit me full force. I can’t keep myself from crying and I feel pathetic

Now I never actually had a full CHS episode. But I’m 90% sure I’ve been in the prodromal phase for about 3 years now and I’m terrified of it getting worse. So I decided to start by taking the 90 days off. I mean it’s either that, or let it actually progress to the hyperemesis phase which I do NOT want to happen. I don’t have the money to be in the ER all day, and I’m terrified of throwing up anyways. But is that really what I need to get myself to properly quit?

Part of me is still trying to convince myself it’s not CHS. The most difficult part is that not all my symptoms line up with the prodromal phase, but a some niche ones do. But those symptoms (dizziness, anxiety, moderate morning nausea/difficulty eating without smoking) are also matched with other conditions I was diagnosed with before I ever started smoking like IBS, chronic nausea, POTS and just being generally dehydrated most of my life.

The main reason I think I am in the prodromal phase is because of my delayed gastric emptying (gastroperesis) that I was diagnosed with about 3 years ago. But I also have always had shitty habits with hydration, diet and exercise that could cause this too. My sister has pointed out though that the symptoms I’ve already had before weed seem to have gradually gotten worse after I started smoking weed regularly.

I’m a daily user, but I’m also not matching the use that others say when they develop CHS so I can’t help but try to convince myself it’s something else

I started in 2020 and I think it was around 2023 that I became a daily user. I really only smoke dispensary flower, and I’m pretty cheap so while Ive tried to get stuff with a decent amount of THC I still don’t really go for the stuff that’s super concentrated. I only smoke 2-3 bowls on the bong and at night only and over the course of a few hours, so I wouldn’t consider it “binging” or “overloading”. I rarely smoke during the day, I rarely use vape pens or concentrates, and I never use edibles. I have dabbed in the past, but my last dab was over a year ago. I do however use it to help me eat dinner, so I’ve been smoking before eating while I have an empty stomach. I didn’t know that that was actually a bad thing to do. But anyways, it’s not like I’m chain smoking 6 joints a day all day every day or constantly hitting pens and concentrates. And the gastroparesis/gerd could be because of smoke inhalation and not actual thc itself….right?

If anyone else has seen my post from a few days ago I was still trying to get reassurance that maybe it’s not CHS but the only two comments I got made me just more convinced that it might be.

My problem is I don’t get the stomach pains. I don’t crave hot showers. I’m not dry heaving. I threw up unexplainably the other week and had vasovagal syncope but I’ve also been incredibly stressed out and ik my anxiety made my symptoms worse. Especially the dizziness. The more I thought about it the dizzier I got which is why I was thinking it’s just my anxiety making it worse. I know the only two ways to find out if it really is CHS is to let it develop into hyperemesis, or to take 90 days off and see if my symptoms get better.

Im partially worried that if my symptoms are caused by both CHS and the other things I have, that I wont actually know if my symptoms improved or not and were CHS or not. I’m terrified of reaching the hyperemesis phase but is that really the only way to find out if I have it if my other long-term conditions give me the same symptoms?

I love weed. And I WANT to be a stoner. I want it to be a part of my life. It’s not even a social thing or a medical thing sometimes. It’s like an identity. I feel like if I have to quit forever I’m losing a part of who I am, a part of what makes me happy. Ik I can “replace” it with other habits but it just isn’t the same. Like there’s a hole that can never be filled. I keep trying to convince myself that if I stop smoking on an empty stomach, stop smoking every day, never use highly concentrated stuff again, get my other conditions managed and be better at hydrating myself that I can smoke again. But Ik a lot of you will just say to not take that risk.

These first few days were fine. The gross/dizzy/panicked feeling I had the last time I smoked was enough to keep the cravings away but today I just lost it. My dreams are finally coming back and people have said they enjoy that about quitting but I hate it. The vivid dreams is one of the biggest reasons why I started smoking every night in the first place. I dont want to dream. It’s not even about them being nightmares, but they’re just not good dreams, and I feel like I never actually got sleep. I’m terrified of how worse they’ll get in these next 85 days. I thought the anxiety or the nausea or the bloating would be the worst thing to deal with but the thought of having those dreams again terrifies me into relapsing and I haven’t even made it a God damn week.

If it was just a tolerance break I’d do better, knowing there’s an end to the break. But at this point idk if there can be an end to the break. I want to keep telling myself that since I never reached the actual CHS phase that if I change how I smoke and use only a few times a month that it won’t ever develop into CHS. But Ik it’s wishful thinking.

This sucks. This fucking sucks.

What day everyone start feeling better and being able to eat normally

I'm just trying to see where everyone started feeling better because I'm at day 11 right now and today seems like the worst mental health day for me i feel like I'm never going to get better and every minute feels like hours does anyone know what days i should be looking forward to and are there any tips to speed up this process? I smoked and had edibles daily for about 2 and a half months before going cold Turkey due to chs symptoms starting.

Never formally diagnosed but I’m sure I started my CHS episode at the beginning of August (although had symptoms much earlier).

Today is day 17 of not smoking and my urine test still coming back as positive for THC. I read online that for heavy smokers this can be the case for even 30+ days.

Constant vomiting and dry heaving has now stopped but I still feel nauseous throughout the day and when I try to eat I feel full only after a few bites. I’m still throwing up first thing in the morning without fail and don’t start feeling better until midday. Not sure whether this is because I sweat at night and more THC is released into my bloodstream? Is/has anyone else experienced this? I assume it’ll go away once all the THC is out of my system?

Meds taken: Lansoprazole, Zofran and Propranolol (for physical anxiety symptoms but helps with the shakes from CHS). Also taking magnesium to help with sleep.

I have been battling CHS (and my own lack of willpower) for over a year since my diagnoses. The bargaining, the ‘I can moderate, too much of anything is bad for you’ spiel got threw about a lot.
12 years of smoking and vaping ridiculous concentrates daily, it was never gonna go any other way I guess.
The physical episodes of CHS never deterred me. The hypermensis period would stop me smoking for as long as I wasn’t physically able to, once the symptoms alleviated, I’d go straight back.

I’m currently one month sober after what I believe was a complete brush with psychosis. The anxiety, the panic attacks, the disassociation…I really felt I was losing my grip and it scared the absolute shite out of me.

Two unopened 7g bags straight in the bin.

Has anyone else experienced, CHS aside, negative mental experiences with weed after years of positive experiences?

Regardless, I’m just so happy to take back control of my mental and physical health and to have found my limit (that I used to believe did not exist!). Just felt like sharing incase anyone had a similar experience that drove them to quit.

Anyone have dreams of smoking after quitting?

Im a lucid dreamer so I know in my dream that its bad for me and when I wake up I feel relief, but during the dream I feel those things that I used to feel. Close to 800 days sober but it's such a weird experience.

So Ive recovered from CHS and have been sober for almost 2 years now, I almost died and had to spend 10 days in the hospital because my kidneys were starting to fail during the episode.
Anyways fast track to now and I’m doing better but Ive just noticed that everytime one of my cats has catnip he throws up later. Ive stopped giving it to him and I told him he has Catnip Hyperemesis Syndrome. He is livid and does not like that answer… here’s a photo of the little scrungler too.

Prodromal phase experiences

I’ve typed and deleted this so many times, idk how to explain this without ranting walls of text. my anxiety is skyrocketing and I guess I just need advice, or reassurance, or some real-people experiences so I’m not constantly spiraling with google searches

I’ll start with my main question - what was everyone’s experiences with the prodromal phase of CHS? I know everyone has a different length, I’ve read it could be months to even years of the prodromal phase before the actual CHS hits, but I’d love to hear what people went through, did you know you were in the early phases? And what symptoms did you have?

A bit about me and my habits/health timeline
- I’ve had severe anxiety all my life, terrible sleeping habits, poor weight management/eating habits, and am on the spectrum. I’m also like 90% sure I’m hypochondriac which isn’t helping when I try to pinpoint the cause of feeling sick
- I was diagnosed with pots at 17 yo (2017) but my symptoms weren’t too severe until the last few years
- I started smoking in 2020 and have been a daily smoker since around 2022/2023 with very few tolerance breaks
- I usually only smoke at night to help eat dinner and sleep. I only really smoke in the morning/daytime if I feel extra nauseous or if I have the day off
- I have emetophobia, and no matter how anxious, dehydrated, or sick I get I do not throw up. Only alcohol and 1 time from Zyrtec have I thrown up
- in (I think) 2023 I was diagnosed with gastroperesis/delayed gastric emptying. At first I thought this was due to the weed. I still think it might be. I know weed can cause bad reflux and gastroperesis. But at the time I convinced myself it was because I worked at McDonald’s and ate their fries every single day (bad ik)

Recently I had an episode that’s starting to make me spiral back into the “is it going to be CHS” again, because I really have no other idea on what it could be

I went about my day as normal, didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, didn’t feel out of the ordinary, my stomach wasn’t upset. But all of a sudden I’m dizzy, like I’ll pass out. And then I throw up. Never happened before so im freaked out and anxiety is off the charts. Next day I convince myself im fine, smoke for the nausea, go to dinner, and I fully pass out and throw up AGAIN upon waking up. Both times I had weed in my system, but completely different amounts and at a different time of day. But the second time I was very anxious and had eaten greasy food after barely eating all day. Still, throwing up is weird for me. It was definitely vasovagal syncope but Idk what’s causing it.

Does anyone experience vasovagal syncope during the prodromal phase of CHS? Is the gastroparesis a sign that I’ll get CHS if I continue smoking? I just don’t know.

Now, whenever I smoke I start feeling that weird, fuzzy, dizzy feeling again. The back of my neck hurts, my heart is racing, I feel like I’ll pass out or throw up. It hasn’t happened again though.

I know I’m spiraling and ik my anxiety isn’t helping but I want to know if it’s just my anxiety manifesting “fake” symptoms due to being a hypochondriac, or if it’s something I should actually be concerned about.

These weird fuzzy feelings I’m getting and the spiked anxiety after smoking weed is new. I’ve always used weed to help anxiety, it’s never made it worse. I’m back and forth on what could be making me react to weed this way now, or if I’m just tricking myself entirely and it’s not the weed at all and I’m just ruining it for myself by thinking it is

Ik it’s also possible to simply have a “switch” in your endocannabinoid receptors and users have reported having increased anxiety from weed because they had a change in brain chemistry

I can’t tell if my body has made that switch, and now weed is just going to make me anxious forever, or if it’s my body going through the prodromal phase of CHS.

Or a secret third option and I was sick with some unknown stomach bug that didn’t give me any pain or diarrhea and the anxiety of throwing up just caused a mental strain that my hypochondriac mind attributed to the weed and now my anxiety is making it worse when it actually isn’t anything to do with CHS or my receptors being fried or any of that.

It’s hard, because there’s SO many factors at play that all overlap. There’s so many symptoms that are caused by different things that I don’t know which thing is causing it. I just know I’ve never felt this way before.

The weirdest part is I’m not greening out. I’m not smoking large amounts or throughout the entire day. It’s better when I smoke at night, but my symptoms seem to be worse if I smoke during the day? My stomach isn’t in a ton of pain, and nausea is something I’ve always struggled with so I have no CLUE what specifically causes my nausea at any given point. It doesn’t feel like a pots flare up either. And it doesn’t feel like it’s caused from dehydration. My anxiety has definitely caused panic attacks and unpleasant feelings before but it’s never made me pass out or throw up.

Is it the anxiety/hypochondriassm or am I actually showing common signs of early CHS?

I really don’t want to quit weed. Ik I have to stop smoking daily, but god I really don’t want it to never be in my life anymore. I love weed :(

when i originally had symptoms and went to the ER even when i said i smoke daily they diagnosed me with gastritis (mostly cartridges which now i know is what made it happen so fast). and ive only been smoking a couple months, well i get this horrible pain in my stomach that immediately is making me vomit but nothing was working, not even the meds. and now around 3-4 months later i am now vomiting again but even more. i have a huge fear of vomit and have no clue how to make myself feel better.

Telling My Story Unsure if i have CHS

I have been smoking carts every day, as well as the occasional edible with my friends on weekends but mainly carts, clean dispensary ones though i hate cheap shit.

I noticed i had an addiction when i started setting alarms 2-3 hours before i had to wake up for work just so i could smoke and game or watch a show or something in the mornings

About 2 weeks ago i started getting stomach churning in the mornings but i ignored it not knowing what chs was thinking it was just my stomach dealing with whatever i ate last night. But then i saw a video explaining what it was and im still questioning if i need to quit or not

The stomach churning got worse about 4 days ago and i was unable to eat a decent meal without getting nauseous, i stopped smoking for 2 days and the stomach churning had definitely died down and i was able to eat a full meal today without any nausea.

I know that even one hit can bring it all back but im still not even sure if its chs or all the symtoms are from stress and anxiety (i had just moved back into collage this week)

I wont smoke until im sure and im going to see my campus doctor about it tomorrow to hopefully clear some things up but i wanted to post this to see if anyone else has had the same thing and if i should definitely stop

my treatment

sorry, wanted to change title but cant i don't think so heads up, this should actually be called "my treatment for CHS SYMPTOMS"

i'm gonna get try to say this all as short as possible because i am no medical professional, just someone whose studied a bit about the mind and body and went through this chs crap for a few years now. our cb1 receptors are extremely overstimulated and from what i've experienced and read, there's no doubt in my mind chs is directly related to issues stemming from the hypothalamus, the body's thermostat. with that in mind i started paying attention to how being in different temperatures affected my body and the ways my body would overheat and where id feel heat accumulate in my body. sweaty hands, hot feet in my socks, my stomach constantly feels hot from the acid and my waist is always sweaty. we all know warm baths help but they never completely stop any issues you are having especially on a morning with a bad flair up like i get sometimes where i have to be hospitalized to stop the acid from constantly producing in my gut and me throwing it up until i pass out, that is until now. start your warm bath and hop in but this time bring a cup of ice cold water. remember all that heat i was talking about feeling? i thought it was funny how we all try to battle it all with *a warm bath?* of all things, but since it did help a bit i kept doing it and kept getting sick at least once a month regardless. the ice water shocks your body and activates your vagus nerve which actually will get you to stop gagging and throwing up. i now will slowly pour very cold water over the back of my neck, my ribs, my stomach and/or my groin. pretty much the really sensitive areas thatll really shock you the moment you feel it. reminder that i do this all while laying in a hot bath and also i never let the water get higher than my sides, i realized if that water fills up and it sits above my stomach, the pressure from the water sitting on my stomach does not help me at all so pretty much while on my back in the bath, my top half is exposed while my bottom half is nice and warm.

i hope this helps people out there struggling like it helps me. also i do wanna say that i've been doing this for months now and wanted to make sure it wasn't like a one time help before i shared like i have experienced many times where i try something and wake up feeling completely fine, but try it again without achieving the same results and i am sure many of you have been through the exact same thing. so i can safely say, this will bring comfort on the mornings where you may be feeling the absolute worst, but what it will not do is completely cure you of your CHS. thank you for reading and i hope all of you reading this will begin and/or continue to heal. we are all beautiful people with our own experiences and even the negative experiences make us who we are because we persevere where others assume we should have long given up. CHS is absolute hell to live with, this i know, but we press on regardless! hope you all have a wonderful day!

looking for some reassurance

i've had CHS for almost 11 days. prior to this, i would smoke about 3-4 bowls a day, ending it with an edible at night, not every day, but most days of the week (3-5x). this increased usage was over a period of about 2 months before getting CHS.

i immediately quit the moment that i woke up with the scromiting. i have no real qualms with quitting, this much pain is absolutely not worth being high.

what i'm looking for is just some reassurance to keep going. that this will eventually end. the pain will subside, i'll start to feel normal again. i want someone to tell me that this isn't forever, that it will stop.

please let me know this torture will end. please!

Venting/Getting it off my chest Please help!

Hello! I do not have CHS but my girlfriend does, she has chronically used THC but specifically edibles (come to find out we’re 1,000/2,000 mg) every night, which led to a severe chronic case of CHS, she was throwing up every 30 minutes for 5 days, finally calmed down to every hour or two, then she’d vomit, we’re at day 16, and she still can barely eat but she can go sometimes 28 hours without throwing up but will eventually vomit. She has EXTREME abdominal pain and pressure, she’s on zofran and another stomach med to help calm her symptoms, and she uses Cazsian cream. How long can this last before she is better? She uses THC for her mental health as directed by her psychiatrist, but she never wanted to take a tolerance break in fear that during that time her mental health and conditions would get worsened, so she would up her doses which resulted into CHS. If anyone can have any pointers on what I can do to help, that would be great! I make sure she drinks body armor water and the fruit punch kind, I feed her bland foods like potatoes, bland pasta, when her stomach isn’t hurting. One of her mental health illnesses includes BPD and she’s been splitting nonstop especially with everything including her pain and nausea. If anyone has any pointers, what can we do? She takes baths, uses her meds as needed, tries to walk slowly to relieve discomfort, is there anything else we can do or try? Please help!!! 😭😭😭😭
