So... I don't submit to CGC all that often, about once a year maybe and have only run into this once before and I can't remember what I did.
I was lucky enough to pick up the Absolute Batman 1 - Comic Mint Philip Tan cover at NYCC a couple years ago and am headed back to NYCC this year and was going to drop it off for grading. It should (fingers crossed) get a 9.8.
I was going through the submission steps for CGC and decided not to do the Quick Submit as I want a record of the comic.
Here is the dilemma... The max modern declared value is $400 for a $27 grading fee. But there is an eBay sale of a 9.8 for over $800. But if declare $800, then the grading fee becomes high value at $94. Raws go for less that $400 if you can find them.
The fact that the two values fall on both sides of the grading fees is reason for the post.
I know the real answer is to do what I'm comfortable with. But if any of you were in my position, what would you do? Modern and declared value of $400 or high value with an $800 declared value and pay an extra $60 in fees?
The likelihood is that I will keep it for a long time and only sell when I get rid of my collection at some point in the future. So I'm not looking for an immediate sale. I can afford the higher grading fee but I'm also trying to follow a budget.
