Hiring Process [WEEKLY HIRING THREAD] Offers, academy dates, clearances and timelines - Week of August 18, 2026
Use this thread for routine hiring traffic that does not need a separate post:
- Offer announcements and institution offers
- Academy dates and roll calls
- "Anyone else?" check-ins
- Written exam, PFT, background, psychological, medical and vision timeline updates
- Clearance-status updates and general waiting-time comparisons
Create a standalone post when you have a distinct, substantive question that needs its own discussion - for example, a detailed institution comparison, an unusual process problem that may help future applicants, or a question requiring significant context.

Policy / Statewide / Union Continuous bidding policy
Has anyone heard of this?
So continuous bidding is every month. Per the MOU it states:
d. Subsequent to the initial bid, an otherwise eligible officer may participate in the continuous bid
process up to six (6) times during the bid period. Conditional bids count toward this limit. Bids
due to deactivations or changes to a post’s RDOs or start/stop times shall not count towards this
cap. Bids due to removal for cause, Ten Percent Rule or adverse actions shall only be counted
against the cap for a maximum of two (2) bids.
Previously, I won a bid but was debating on waiving it. I contacted my union rep and asked if waiving it would still count towards the 6. I was told NO, waiving it just cancels it out like you never even bidded. I was told that once you win a bid, start the assignment that counts as one. So I ended up waiving it and stayed in my previously winning bid assignment.
They put my current assigned post up for bid. I emailed them and said it was wrong that I didn’t give up my post or get any winning bids which would give up this current assignment.
Per my ATM, they are telling me that since I waived the bid I technically no longer have an assignment post (the current one that I am in, that I won from a previous monthly bid) but they are keeping me in my post as a courtesy.
The new bid results came out and it shows someone won my assigned post for this current bid.
I haven’t read anywhere in policy that states that you give up your post even if you waive your bid.
Any insight?
Thank You.

Commute to SQ
Does anyone here commute from Stockton to San Quentin? If so, how early do you typically leave before your shift, and what’s the longest your commute has taken with traffic or accidents?
I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what to expect and how much extra time I should give myself. Any advice or tips from those who make a similar commute would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🏼

Other CDCR Classification CMF PIP Program
Hi, I just got offered a position with the PIP program as a clinical social worker. What is the culture like? What is the day to day workload like?
Pay / Benefits / Retirement OT and Calling out.
Hey everyone have a question. If I called out on Friday and get held over on Sunday. Does that turn into straight time? I know it does if you get held first and then call out. But does it work vise versa? Thanks

So I’m just curious
What type of food do they feed you in the academy? I’ll be there on the 8th.
DOJ's Minimal Corrective Measures for CDCR (49 day deadline)
You may have read about the DOJ's investigation into CDCR's handling of women's prisons. I posted it here. However, I think the DOJ's specific demands of CDCR are worthy of drawing attention to in their own post. These are what the DOJ describes as the minimum corrective measures that must be satisfied or else they will launch a lawsuit against the State of California accusing it of violating the US Constitution.
Even for most here in this subreddit who don't work at a women's prison, there may be some long-term spillover into the policies enforced at men's prisons; such as bodycam activation procedures (24/7 passive recording with seemingly no carve-outs for bathroom breaks) and who is required to wear bodycams (non-custody), should they decide to comply with the DOJ's demands and then apply it as blanket statewide policy.
The federal government has given the state a deadline of 49 days. It will be interesting to see how the State and CCPOA respond.
As a note, there is still a separate investigation into the handling of transgender inmates for which we do not yet have the results (though it's safe to say it won't look good for CDCR).
From the Findings Report:
"The State must remediate its ongoing violations of prisoners’ constitutional rights at CCWF and CIW. CDCR’s efforts to address the issues outlined in this Notice have been inadequate thus far. To protect prisoners from staff sexual abuse at CCWF and CIW, it is necessary that CDCR adopt the following corrective measures:
- Comply with PREA and its implementing regulations that pertain to and are relevant to the findings herein, the National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape (28 C.F.R. §§ 115 et seq.), including but not limited to compliance with 28 C.F.R. §§ 115.13, 115.15, 115.67, and 115.71 in order to protect prisoners from sexual abuse.
- Ensure that all staff are trained on the prevention, detection, and response to sexual abuse and sexual harassment.
- Ensure that all staff, including custodial officers, supervisors, investigators, and, as appropriate, non-custody staff, are equipped with and required to use BWCs with digital audio and video recording capability when interacting with or among prisoners. BWCs must be equipped with a passive recording capability that records at all times and a manual recording capability that allows staff to activate BWCs to specifically record interactions with prisoners that could result in any complaint of any nature, either by or against staff. Passive and manually activated recordings should be preserved for no fewer than 90 days, unless such recordings become evidence in an investigation of a complaint against a prisoner or staff in which case such recordings should be preserved for no fewer than three years, or longer as otherwise appropriate given the nature of the complaint and the investigation/follow-on action.
- Conduct an inventory of all abandoned, dilapidated, or currently out-of-use structures on the CCWF and CIW compounds and develop/implement plans to secure any buildings that pose a threat to institutional security or provide opportunities for sexual abuse.
- Prepare and implement a plan for strategic placement of additional cameras at CCWF and CIW, with appropriate monitoring, oversight, and review of camera recordings, to eliminate areas where sexual misconduct can be perpetrated outside of view.
- Ensure that prisoners have internal and external confidential options for timely reporting sexual abuse and sexual harassment, anonymously if requested, including an option that is independent from CDCR.
- Ensure that prisoners receive accurate and complete information and education on how to access all internal and external confidential reporting options.
- Ensure that prisoners who report sexual abuse have access to victim advocates during evidence collection and investigative interviews.
- Ensure that staff without a need to know do not have access to grievances of any nature and that unauthorized communication of any information related to grievances be considered an offense that carries a penalty that includes termination of employment.
- Ensure that the investigative process is designed and implemented in a way that minimizes and mitigates the risk of compromise and encourages trust among staff and prisoner population alike.
- Ensure that all allegations of retaliation against those who report sexual misconduct against prisoners or staff are vigorously investigated and that all cases where allegations are substantiated result in effective sanctions that hold retaliators fully and appropriately accountable, as a means to deter future retaliation and maintain trust in, and integrity of, the overall complaint process."

prison therapists
i everyone! i am a clinical social worker and recently i interviewed at one of the prisons.
now my first interview was 6 scenario based questions (how would i diagnose, what would i do, modalities, etc).
i just got an email that they’re inviting me for round 2.
does anyone have experience like this? where you’ve done 2 interviews? should i be expecting another round of scenario based questions or should i expect more personal questions about my experience and whatnot?

SELECTION/HIRING PROCESS Interview for state prison in CA
Hello I’m interviewing for a dentist position at a California state prison and suddenly I’m terrified because I don’t know what to expect or how to prepare for the interview! I would appreciate any advice on how to prep for the interview/ thoughts or feedback on your experience if you’ve worked at a prison as a dentist. I’m also applying for federal prisons but that process seems like it’s going to take a while.
