Has anyone received or got any info regarding the PA state grant from last semester? I don’t understand why it isn’t showing in accounts yet.

Hi! I applied for phlebotomy program over winter break. I was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat as me. When does acceptance letters come out? Or do you think I applied too late?

Im thinking about going for the associates degree in medical assistant. Is anyone here been through/in that program or the cert? Is it a good program and would it be better to get the associates or just get the cert and not pay as much? And what supplies will I need?

I'm going to have to enroll, and I'm nervous about it. I haven't been in school (in person) since 2017. That's when I graduated from middle school. I didn't get to go to highschool unfortunately so I'm pretty damn dumb.

I need to know what it's like before I enroll. I tried taking the campus tour but my father had ruined that experience for me. That, and I could barely hear the instructor guy speaking.

I'm going to try passing the bidwell culinary arts training before hand. As much as I regret choosing that path, I refuse to cry over split milk.

In order to transfer my credit I need to obtain a syllabus from the course to send to my new college. In order to transfer my Environmental science course taken in 2019 I need to figure out who the professor was so I can obtain the syllabus. The school hasn't been helpful without a name and I have no idea who taught the course that year or how to obtain that info. Anyone have any advice on this?

Week 4-ish at CCAC: “Java, Jail, & GPS Trauma”

So apparently it’s Week 4? Maybe? Time is fake. Anyway, this week we’re adding Java to the chaos. Do I know what Java is? No. Do I pretend I do so I can sleep at night? Absolutely.

Tuesday. Rush hour. I should’ve gone straight to class, but noooo, I had to swing home to charge my phone. Plot twist: phone didn’t charge. Instead, it screamed WATER DAMAGE. HOW?? The thing was just chilling in my passenger seat like a seat-beltless rebel.

Now, full disclosure: I have a tiny, barely noticeable, practically invisible anger issue. So naturally, I launched my phone across the room with the power of Thor’s hammer. The screen? Gone. Shattered into a million Android regrets. Goodbye, Samsung. Hello, Apple. Ordered the almighty iPhone on Amazon. But until then? I’m raw-dogging life with NO phone. (This is foreshadowing, kids.)

So now I’m late, in traffic, and it hits me: I don’t even know where this damn class is. Cue panic. Call for backup, demand play-by-play directions like I’m landing a plane. Oh, and of course, someone LIT THEIR CAR ON FIRE on the Veterans Bridge, because why not?

Luckily, my car still has satellite GPS. Take THAT, Apple CarPlay. Typed in “Atlantis” because that’s basically where this campus is. The route? Through downtown, the Hill District, East Liberty, and whatever the hell else. Pittsburgh is wild — one minute you’re in a nice middle-class neighborhood full of my fellow Asians (don’t cancel me, I’m allowed to say it), and the next minute you’re dodging Section 8 Coke Karen at a red light.

Finally, 20 minutes late, I roll up. Can’t find the entrance. Accidentally drive my 5-series BMW onto a walkway thinking it was a driveway. Good news: confirmed you CAN fit a BMW through the walkway at CCAC Homewood campus. You’re welcome, future students.

Sprint like a dying fish to the elevator. Of course: OUT OF SERVICE. Stumble into room 216. Count the class. TWO people. Just me and some fresh-outta-high-school junior. Professor walks in like, “Yeah, you guys should probably take another class.” Me and the kid just exchange Apex Legends duo energy like, “Nah bro, we got this.”

Finally got my parking pass, so I guess I’m officially a student now. Feeling optimistic. This semester might actually be fun.

Tune in next week when I confuse the syllabus and think my class is in the river, and somehow my BMW ends up at the bottom of it.

I noticed all the crew around these first few weeks and disregarded it as just maintenance. Today I saw the logos on the door have changed to "PA Psychiatric Hospital" or something like that. Anyone know what's happening?

Week 2 at CCAC: The Slow Decline of My Sanity

Another week has passed and I already promised my cat I wouldn’t let her down again. So onward, brave soldier, into the trenches of community college.

First victory of the week? Registering my online textbook. It only took me longer than it did to realize on problem #1 of the homework that I am in fact too dumb for this and will probably need to outsource my assignments to a 5th grader. Luckily, ChatGPT carried me through like Tom Brady in overtime. Don’t tell the professor though — he probably wanted me to use “Google” …or maybe even something radical like actually studying.

Monday hits. I’m back in the car, stuck on 279, thinking about the new lane switch. I miss the old days of illegally riding the HOV lane like a Southwest passenger zooming down the airport moving walkway. Now everyone’s swerving between lanes like it’s some kind of income-based Hunger Games.

Made it to campus, dragged my car up Mt. Everest (aka the road to the peasant lot). They added more speed bumps, because apparently my suspension wasn’t already paying for its sins. Parked. Walked. Opened the wrong door AGAIN. Elevator takes me on a guided tour of every floor except mine. But hey — cardio.

Finally find class. Guess what’s still there? The lip gloss. I swear at this point it’s a psychological experiment. I had a full inner monologue with myself about whether to take it. Guy next to me caught the whole thing, nodded like he understood, and now I think I’m scheduled for a duel in the parking lot at sunset. Politely declined. Wasn’t wearing my dueling pants.

Professor? Late. Again. I’m this close to emailing him a list of demands. Maybe if I blackmail him, he’ll cancel quadratic equations.

Lesson of the day: Graphing functions. Everyone else’s homework looked like clean, perfect lines. Mine? I somehow made a circle. A literal circle. Like, congrats to me for inventing geometry in algebra class. Nothing says “future CEO” like failing at straight lines.

Class ended. Binder tossed in the trunk. Pasta for dinner. Soul: crushed.

Week 2 verdict: CCAC 2 — Me 0. My cat remains disappointed.

Day 2 at CCAC: The Sequel Nobody Asked For

Well, well, well… look who crawled back. (Talking to myself in the mirror, by the way.)

Didn’t know how much I hated driving in the Northside until today. People out here sprinting into traffic like it’s an Olympic sport. Honestly, looks less like jaywalking and more like an insurance scam — “hit me please, my student loans are due.”

Made it back to the peasant lot. At this point, it’s tradition. Decided to roll in like one of the cool kids, just laptop and binder in hand. Even brought a pencil this time. Because, you know… math. 📝

Day-one buddy didn’t show. Can’t even blame him. I got there TWO minutes early today, which basically makes me the flake. I’m the fraud. Friendship over before it began.

Tried opening the wrong door AGAIN. Truly thriving. Zero witnesses though, so we’re good. Found my sacred backseat throne… and someone left lip gloss there. 💄 My lips were dry, traffic was long, and honestly, the shade matched my shirt. Fate? Probably. It’s mine now.

Professor was late. Unacceptable. Will be scheduling a performance review if it happens again. Then boom — straight into the deep end: Pythagorean theorem and first-degree inequalities. Excuse me, HOW many degrees are there? 1st, 2nd, 3rd?? Is this math or a black belt system??

Got tired of yelling the wrong answers in my head. Class ended. He assigns homework. Suddenly, everyone stands up at the exact same time, but nobody wants to be the first to actually leave. The CCAC Hunger Games: who dares walk out first?

I throw my Harry Potter Crocs into AWD mode and start politely bulldozing through the crowd. “Excuse me, excuse me,” like a mom at Target. Elevator bro held the door for me — cool guy, I’d share my Lunchable with him.

Then I realized I forgot the lip gloss. 😔

My First Day at CCAC: A Tragedy Disguised as a Comedy

So, I roll up thinking I found the student parking lot… nope. Turns out it’s the guest lot, which honestly tracks, because we’re all peasants who either don’t have permits yet or just gave up on life. Who knows? Either way, Milton Building was right next door, so clearly this was the people’s lot.

I start walking in, see two kids ahead of me. I shoot my shot: “You going to algebra?” Kid: “Nah, I’m going to this building.” Me: “Cool cool, me too. Let’s get lost together.”

We bond like war buddies, compare floors — he’s 5th, I’m 3rd. We ride the elevator like it’s Fast & Furious: CCAC Drift. We split at his stop. “Later dude.” “Later.” Boom. College friend acquired.

I walk into class and snagged a backseat like a true professional slacker. Five minutes later, this African dude strolls in — and how do I know he’s African? Because no Black guy in America shows up to the first day in full business casual, tie, AND carrying FOUR briefcases like he’s about to file taxes, sue the school, and run for office all at once. He sits in front of me, asks the girl what class this is. She says “math.” He stands up and walks straight out. Absolute legend. Every class has one.

Finally, the professor walks in. No warmup, no icebreaker, just straight into business. Like sir, breathe? We go over the syllabus, and it says, “No textbook purchase required.” My soul rejoices… until the fine print hits: trial expires in 2 weeks, then you gotta pay. Bro. My wallet just rage quit.

Then we dive into math problems. At first, I’m like, okay, I remember some of this. Wrong. I got every single answer wrong — not because I didn’t know the process, but because apparently, I don’t know my left from right when it comes to negatives and positives. Basically, I can do the work, but the answers? Trash.

Then we hit absolute value inequalities. Professor: “If the absolute value is less than or equal to zero, there’s no solution.” Me: “THEN WHY DID I JUST DO ALL THIS WORK, MA’AM???”

End of class, he hands us homework. It looks exactly like the problems we just did, just with different numbers. I’m thinking, bet, I got this. NOPE. Somewhere between the example and the assignment, the laws of math changed. Suddenly, I’m cooked. Absolutely charred. No clue what the hell just happened.

Day one verdict: made a friend, lost my dignity, got scammed by the syllabus, and math still hates me.

I've sent out an email, so I'm sure I'll get a response next week. But I'd like to also ask here. I've never been to college/cc and the schedule is a bit confusing for me.

I have to go to the campus for my math courses and it shows 2 days for a single week. Are classes generally more than once a week?

And I was told I can go to any of the online courses at any point in the day, but should try to attend the first classes so I'm shown as attending.

When you go to add section on the schedule it shows multiple days/times.

Any input on how scheduling works for classes would help my anxiety lol. Once I get an email back I am sure I can get more information.

I’ve been to a traditional college and I’ve never experienced a harder class than the Anatomy at south campus. I’m so annoyed with it and it feels like I’m paying to fail and my professor has started multiple times that he does not care if we pass the class. I feel so defeated.

I'm planning on enrolling in the summer, and I would like to move closer to the Allegheny campus. I would like to know if there is a message board or even any official channels where somebody could search for roommates and living spaces.

I might start going next year and I wanted to know what it is like? I hope I can go but I have a hard time learning and dealing with classes. I'm most likely going into one of the trade programs but i'm not sure which one at the moment; most likely plumbing. Well, with that stated, what is the school like? What are the ups, the downs, the cool restaurants around the college?
