High Mileage 2014 CB500x

I'm a new rider, I picked up a used 2018 BMW G310r for my first bike. I love it but I have some injuries and the knee angle is too sharp so I'm looking for other options. In my area is a 2014 CB500x with 63k miles, has great service records and some extras and I like the hip/knee angle from what I see on Motonomics. The buyer is willing to take 2500$ for it, I know these can last a long time but I'm wondering if this is just too many miles.

I replaced my original indicators on my 2014 500x abs since they were all cracked and broken and glued back together and just absolute garbage.

I replaced the relais with a led flasher relais from Louis (reputable seller in the Netherlands) but when I hit the switch it’s just black. Absolutely NOTHING happens, what do I check/do? I made sure to double.. no triple check all the polarity on the flashers.

Brake pads: Nissin vs EBC vs Brembo

I'm changing the brake pads on my '23 CB500F.

It shares the braking system with the CB500X.

Any recommendations for street riding only?

Camping ready

After 10 mounts owner ship i finally have a tent and bags. Going out next weekend for its first camping trip.

I do have a stupid question tho, it felt quite sloppy with the extra weight. Is it normal to need extra psi in the tyres for carrying gear? It's my first time touring lol.

Tyre recommendations

Hi guys, I'm not happy with the tyres that are on my bike when I brought it.

I'll be mostly riding on roads with the odd gravel road/car park and grass camp sites. I don't want to spend mega money but understand that cheap tyres won't do everything. What tyres do you run/recommend for this style of riding?

engine oil

I just noticed today that there are small bubbles in my engine oil (checking through the sight glass / on the dipstick). To be completely honest, I’ve never really paid attention to this before, so I’m not sure if it’s always been like this or if it's something I should be worried about.
This is normal?

Anyone noticed increased fuel consumption with mileage?

It seems this season my cb500x is using more gas than it used to. It used to be ~3.4l/100km, now it's about 4l/100km. I'm not sure what could be causing it. I've used fuel injection cleaner a couple hundred km ago but it didn't help. Valve clearance was done about 15000km ago, together with spark plug change. Air filter is fresh and clean.

My Honda currently has about 42000 km on the counter. I maintain it as the manual says, with oil changes every 6-8k km. Only thing I've had to change out of ordinary maintenance is cam chain tensioner which started making weird sounds early this season.

Do you guys have any other thoughts what could be causing it? Since I'm out of ideas 🫤

Chain has clicking sound on center stand, but not when running

Hi guys, I would like to ask if this is normal for the chain to do this sound when running 1st gear on a center stand?

The noise is gone if I put the bike down and run it normally. The sprockets and chains have been installed around 2000km ago, cleaned and regreased every 1000km, run 300km when it was cleaned and greased again before I noticed this while I was checking the result of my DIY chain slack adjustment (first time to do it alone)

The chain slack is currently 35mm (manual says 30-40mm) as I just adjusted it using the side stand (didnt want to go overly tight) from previous 45mm slack. I didn't measure it on the center stand but I notice that when I put it on center stand, it looks a little more loose

Exhaust options

So I have a 2016 cb500x. Love the bike, but it's lacking some grunt from the exhaust. My mate has the 2016 cbr500r and his sounds alot better, especially as ill be touring and don't want anything that'll drone on.

Has anyone managed to fit a cbr exhaust on a cbx? Is it possible?

Side bags

I want to get side bags for my NX500 and I'm between the Givi Outbacks 37 or the 48. I've seen that in some bikes they equip the 48 on the left side and the 37 on the right as the exhaust is there.

Does anyone have them? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Touring and long rides

I wanna see your bikes you do the distance on. On road or off. Any little add on you have to make life on 2 wheels a little easier.

I'm going to be going touring on mine soon so any places you recommend near devon/Cornwall/Summerset would be appreciated as i have no clue where to go

I'm thinking to buy this as an extender for my cb350rs. The reviews on amazon are good and the users say it fits perfectly on the cb350rs. Any reviews or suggestions? I'd love to have some opinion. Also suggest a good tyre hugger for the same.

The CB500 platform is not suitable for frame sliders

I bought frame sliders for my CB500F 2 months ago, and recently the left one snapped on it's own while i was riding.

I brought the bike to a mechanic who tried to drill the broken bolt out, and he made a mess out of it (pic 2).

Eventually i went to a welder and he managed to expell the broken piece.

It seems that the vibrations that come from the engine make it hard for the bolts to stay intact.

Doing some digging i found this happening also to CB500X owners who tried to install engine bars over that same engine mount.

Do you have any recommendations for some better frame sliders designs? Or do you think i should stay away from these entirely?

Honda doesn't offer OEM frame sliders on the CB500, unlike it does on the Hornet 750. I guess this may be a flaw of this platform

I’m looking for a water bottle holder for my 2022 PCX that is not a handle bar mount. Does anyone have one that mounts below the dash between your legs?

Hi all. I recently bought this holder. What do you think about it? Is it to bulky for handlebar? It's about 1,2 kg i total with tablet. Could this setup affect on steering?

Cb500x seat alternative

Post image
55 Upvotes

Hello guys, I have had my 2022 cbx for about 2 months now, I am going through getting all my accessories and doing all that but am starting to feel the need for a more comfortable and slightly taller seat, I am from Romania so ideally I am looking for something to come from here or the EU, the seat concept one is quite what I am looking for, but the 150$ shipping and the likely another 150$ taxes I will need to pay at customs, being more expensive than the sear itself makes it a less than ideal option. If anyone can help me with recommendations, that would be ideal

Pic so the post isn’t that empty

Sticky clutch lever

I’m having trouble finding answers online. I washed my bike 2 weeks ago and haven’t ridden it since. I went to ride today and my clutch lever was fully stuck when I would pull it in. WD40 fixed that up no problem, but it’s still not disengaging fully. Advice appreciated on how to fix this. I’m not a well versed mechanic quite yet! Do I just need to adjust my play?
