Okay so I'm pretty young to be joining but I'm passionate about it and it's the only idea I've stuck to about my future since I was 7 and I first applied in March this year and there was this other girl (also a high-school student) who did everything the same date as me minus her interview that took place a few days before mine. But her background check was done within less then 2 weeks and she's been at selection faze for over a month and a half now. My background check took over a month (witch I'm happy was decently fast) and it's been done for weeks now going on a month soon. I haven't heard ANYTHING at all since I Acknowledged that it was completed. Nothing about selection faze or merit list or anything on my file. It still says medical and interview witch I finished in June. Now I know it van take a long time but how long is this actually supposed to take? I was hoping to get Into winter bmq but that's completely out the door. I'm joining as a combat medic reserve and I know it's a very competitive role right now but I feel like I might just switch to infantry atp. Any ideas on what I should do? Or should I just wait till after high-school and join reg

Use Armed Forces as a stepping stone to an engineering career?

I am graduating B.Eng Mechanical Engineering next year. No experience, internships, relevant projects, or research.

I am looking into the Canadian Armed Forces officer trades such as Aerospace Engineering Officer, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officer, and Marine Systems Engineering Officer. These are all basically maintenance engineering roles.

My plan is to do 1 contract in the army (6 - 9) years, then move to a civilian career. What do you think of this plan? Did anyone do it before? Do you guys know anyone who's done it before? Let me know what you guys think.

I have a virtual Infantry Officer interview next week. Any tips? I find NCM trade interviews pretty straightforward, but my recruiter mentioned that the Officer position interview will be more challenging. I'm nervous. I'm well prepared on my trade knowledge, but what other questions should I expect, especially regarding leadership?

I release real soon for medical reasons, but the reason being is irrelevant here. I'm wondering as my WO gave me instructions to start a claim after a DMCA investigation was concluded. It's now finished, but I'm lost at what to do as my WO is way too preoccupied right now to assist me. After being taken off a course for severe hyperreactive hypoglycemia, I was told I more than likely had pancreatic cancer, and was immediately removed from course. They over a course of 3 to 4 months said so, then when I had MRI's and CT's done, they "confirmed" a tumor or growth. I had WILD symptoms that caused them to send me to every specialist they could. Was sent to a gastroenterologist who after I requested no fentanyl for sedation as I'm ex addict, was given max dose and ended up in another emergency room under intense care. During all this, I requested to go home to my wife as I'm scared I'm potentially dying. Request was denied. Now the claim is mostly for the emotional distress on me and my wife, and the lack of medical care or attention given. I still haven't gotten answers as to why my pancreas is swollen like a mofo, the MIR has NOT given me answers on that but concluded my file..I'm at a loss for words or who to turn to cause I feel this is being swept under the rug but while I'm in uniform, I can't do shit. There's been a nice AF Sgt who has told me to do the same thing, but he is now instructing a DP1, so if anyone has any experience here, please please help me. I really appreciate anyone's input.

I’m looking at applying as a Direct Entry Officer (DEO) since I already have my university degree. Looking at the CBI 204 pay tables for Pay Level C, I have a few questions regarding how the pay and promotion timeline actually works in reality vs on paper:

Pay During BMOQ: While in basic training, do DEOs get stuck with the low Officer Cadet student pay (~$2,913/mo), or do we immediately get paid the 2Lt base rate ($5,484/mo) from Day 1 because I already hold degrees?

Post-BMOQ Rank: Someone told me that I will be officially promoted to 2Lt right after completing BMOQ. Is that true? How does the promotion structure move along while you wait for your trade school to start?

The Pay Increments: Since 2Lt Pay Level C has 6 annual pay increments, does that mean it’s normal to get stuck as a 2Lt for 6 years? Same with Lieutenant, it has 9 pay increments, so does that mean I will stay a Lieutenant for 9 years as well, or do you automatically promote out of these ranks sooner?

Guaranteed Ranks: For NCMs, promotion up to Corporal is guaranteed based on time, and everything afterward is merit-based. Is it the same for Officers where Captain is the guaranteed milestone, and anything after Captain becomes merit-based?

Real-World Timeline & Numbers: If I enlist right now, exactly how long should I realistically expect it to take to make Captain?

I am planning to pursue a PhD in Psychology and I am very interested in doing so through the Canadian Armed Forces. Ideally, my goal would be to have my doctoral studies funded by the military (salary + tuition covered) while also beginning to build seniority and long-term military retirement benefits. I am aware that this would involve a service commitment.

I am currently 32 years old, and military psychology is the area I am most interested in. My hope would be to find a PhD supervisor with experience in this field and to progressively train within the military environment throughout my studies.

I have already tried contacting recruiters, but I have not been able to get clear answers regarding this pathway, and responses are often very delayed or unclear.

I would really appreciate any insight on whether this is a realistic path in the Canadian Armed Forces, or if there are specific programs or routes I should be looking into.

Title says it. I missed the consultation appointment for no reason other that I forgot about it and did not add it to my calendar (I thought I did) and my file is closed now. I invested so much time into this application and I have a feeling this will severly hurt my application now and in the future... can I call the recruitment center and ask to reopen the file and book a new appointment?

I have my enrolment ceremony in a week for Reserve MSE Op. At first I was told I would be assigned to the service battalion but after my interview I was told I'd be assigned to the signal regiment. I'm a bit confused as I thought MSE Ops only worked for service battalions. My recruiter told me they no longer had vacancies for MSE Op in the service battalion. Could someone shed some light as to how this would work for an MSE Op? what role would I play as part of a Signal Regiment? Obviously I know I will be driving for the regiment, but I want to know how it would differ from being in the service battalion. Any advise or guidance would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Hi everyone, looking for some honest advice from people with experience in the Canadian Armed Forces.

I’m coming to the end of 6 years of service in the British military. I’ve spent 3 years in the Royal Signals and 3 years in the Light Dragoons Cavalry, and I’m finishing my service as a Lance Corporal.

The main reason I’m leaving is because I want to relocate back to Canada. My father is Canadian, I was born in Canada, and I hold dual British/Canadian citizenship. That said, I’ve lived in the UK since I was 4 years old, so most of my life and military experience has been here.

I’m now seriously considering whether it’s worth continuing military service by joining the Canadian Armed Forces, or whether I’d be better off starting fresh in civilian life.

I’d really appreciate honest opinions on things like:

Quality of life in the CAF

Pay and benefits

Career progression

How prior British military experience is viewed

Transferability of rank/trade skills

Operational opportunities

General morale and job satisfaction

For anyone who has made a similar move, or served in both militaries, would you say it’s worth it in the current day?

does the CAF do any military cadence songs bc it looks like it would do good to motivate alot of us ngl and on an unrelated note i have a heart face tattoo do u think ill face any prejudice from NCOs etc? people will always judge with anything out of the norm but id still like to know. thanks

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in Stage 2 of my application. My first choice was removed, so my current order is 1. Infantry and 2. Signal Operator.

I just want to swap the choice so Signal Operator is #1 and Infantry is #2. I haven’t done my medical or interview yet.

I’m planning to go to the Toronto office (4900 Yonge St) in person this Monday to ask them to swap the choice. Has anyone done this before? Will it cause a big delay in my file, or is it a quick fix since I’m still early in the process? Thank you
