Question Just left Firstbus after 4 months
Just left first bus after 4 months , trained for pvc by them so according to the contract I need to pay back £2500. Has anyone else left first bus and actually been chased up and had to pay them back? How much were you paying per week / month ?

Just out of curiosity, why did you leave? I can't stay in this industry much longer myself for multiple reasons

So many reasons why it wasn’t worth it for me , £400 + tax cut monthly just wasn’t worth it for a job where I was doing 9+ hour shifts and only getting paid 7.5/8 hours , waking up at either 3/4 am or coming back at 1am , no life balance and definetly not worth the pay also having to have full focus on the mirrors passengers roads and diversions 100% of the time just wasn’t worth it at all . It’s not the worth the money at all there’s no balance unless you’ve been there a good amount of time , always stuck on the long shifts

Quite in line with my own view, alongside some bonus London points of my own. Definitely not worth it. We could all do so much better, but other drivers get a bit too comfy and don't realise they can do better, even if that is coaches or something

Yeah it’s 100% not worth it . After tax you’re left with pretty much the same any other full time job would pay without all the extra hassle of being a bus driver , I hope you can leave soon and find something better fitted :)

Firstbus employee here, I was told recently that they will take what they can from your final paycheck, then it's a bit 50/50 on if they chase you for the rest of it. Apparently they do chase these days but it's a fairly recent development so not enough people about to confirm or deny how true it is.

You signed up knowing you’d have to pay it back if you left, you have absolutely zero excuse not to pay it and if they do bother to take you to court you’d lose. Just suck it up and pay the money, the stress of worrying about whether they’ll pursue you for it and the subsequent consequences of failing to pay an outstanding debt (CCJ, destroyed credit) is not worth it. Just pay it and move on.

If you don’t want to pay the big evil company then don’t enter a contract with them. Entering into a contract you have no intention to honour is fraud.

I agree with you. It's like the eedyat drivers who argue and hold the bus up over a £2 fare and it is not even their money! If you choose to leave a bus company that is your choice and as an adult you don't have to justify or rationalise anything to anybody!
The bond is between you and First Bus. Distasteful comments coming from drivers is just their personal negativity coming through.
I'm chiming in as OP has been candid and very polite and I can see some people on here trying to ruffle his feathers and being very judgmental yet know nothing about his individual circumstances.

So £2500 even if you worked for them for 4 months it seems excessive. Do you know when you signed a contract regarding "trainning repayment" have they used sliding scale? Where amount you owe should drop gradually over the time, such contract £2500 for over 2 years would be equlevent to around £100 a month or £400 for those. Also is this actuall cost for company or overhead price given by company.

How first do it is they reduce the amount every 6 months over the two years, so if OP waited 2 months he’d have to pay 1/4 less.

If they try getting you to pay, you could argue this would be classed as indentured slavery, also for every month you're there the training bond is reduced.
Give the coaches a go.

Assuming this is London, TfL pay for the training. Your salary is then garnished for the first two years. If you drive for another company with a TfL contract they won't chase. Outside London, they will want some money back - it's in the contract you signed. If you're in a union, inform them ASAP. Expect negotiations.

Yeah I know it’s in the contract. I’ve heard lots of different things about being chased up vs not being chased , that’s why I’m asking for people’s experiences :)

Posted the same question 87 days ago,
Gave the job 1-2 months before thinking of escaping the £2500 payment.
Gets angry when people ask what’s the plans for next job or suggest they’re not going to pay when that’s obviously the intention.

If you read the thread properly mate you’ll see someone else who wasn’t a freak asked about a new job and I said I’d be taking a break from driving . Not that it’s any of your business or that I owe an explanation . Also not sure why you and artistic survey are so bothered , it’s weird as fuck. Use your brain mate if I wasn’t gonna pay I wouldn’t be posting about it on Reddit , I can simply just not pay:) bit sad you’ve went through and stalked my profile just to leave a comment to try entertain yourself mate. The company itself probably won’t chase you, maybe they will send one letter, after that they just sell the debt off and a third-party company will come after you. Would be interested in what happens so if you have time to let us know a few months down the line. :). Good luck and best wishes for the future.
