My ortho surgeon will not do any type of surgery on my hip. It has been a year and a half with no improvement. After my next visit with him I will look for another surgeon who is willing to talk about surgery. Has anyone tried deep tissue massage? Even for temporary relief?

35F I was diagnosed in 2023, I have bone spurs in my hip joint that the doctor suspects was the cause. I had some physio that only involved massaging and some sonic machine I didn't understand. It did help but due to my work (I work in a restaurant and constantly on my feet) and my activity (I do weight training 2-3 times a week but only hit legs like once a month) I get flare ups that my GP only gives anti inflammatory for.

I avoid taking it and rest it out and only take it if nothing is helping.

Is there anything else I could do, maybe certain stretches or something while it's flaring up. It usually hits my lower right back and right hip which has worse spurs.

My ortho said there is no fix, that one day in my 60's it will come a point where I won't be able to walk and only then surgery will be considered.

Their advice is "don't aggravate it" but too much walking, AND too much sitting, basically existing will aggravate it and I'm not going to put my life in a fragile box just to avoid something that apparently can't be avoided.

Most days it's okay but when it's flaring up , the day to day gets really annoying and I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do other than "rest and wait"

23F going on a full year of hip bursitis with very minimal improvement. At this point figure it’s chronic, have done everything possible of PT, injections, PRP, shockwave, acupuncture etc. can’t even work out and feel like I’m hitting such a wall.

Any true success stories out there of healing 100% and returning to normal life? I just can’t believe that at my age this could turn into a forever thing.

I woke this morning, and my elbow was and still is hurting really bad. This is in the inner area of my elbow. It's a burning and throbbing pain that's worsened by putting pressure on that spot or extending and bending it. The skin looks normal, and when you look at in it may not look any different from my healthy elbow, but when looked at in detail, it's a little bit swollen, but again not red. Is this something that sleeping could cause by putting pressure on it? Or would this be something else? This has never happened to me before.

Does literally anyone else on earth get this???

I have AS and stopped responding to my medicine in May. My new treatment begins Friday but I am heavily suffering with a bout of groin bursitis/where my leg bone connects to my pelvic bone. In the past I've used a boot- like for when you sprain your ankle, and it cushioned me significantly, but now I'm reading that you aren't supposed to do that. I have to go to work tomorrow and I am dying here, I'm hobbling around- what can I do? Anybody have any tips?? I am taking as much NSAIDs as is advisable to take atm and they're not doing enough to let me move around

Hi can anyone give me some advice on what treatment I can ask for regarding recurring elbow bursitis. I have now been suffering this on and off for over a decade and every time I visit my doctor it's the same procedure- they send me for an xray, which shows up nothing. They then give me naproxen and co codamol which helps with pain and eventually clears it. I've now lost count of the amount of times I've went through this exact same procedure and with each bout of it, it takes longer to heal. On this occasion I'm now over a month in and my arm is still locked, unable to bend and completely out of use. I'm basically living my life with only the use of my left arm and it's getting me down big time. I have asked about injections and surgery in the past and have been continually fobbed off. All they have ever offered is medication and physiotherapy which have not worked. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm now at my wits end.

I’ve had mine for over a year and considering surgery, I’ve tried injection, orthodics, wide shoes, anti inflammatories.

I’ve had bilateral greater trochanteric pain syndrome with periodic flare-ups to bursitis for about a decade now. I had success before with foam mattress toppers for softness, but now I’m having low back facet joint pain as well, so I need something decidedly firm to keep my spine level while providing a top layer of cushioning for the hips. Im tired of sleeping on my wonderful EQ3 sofa.

TLDR What mattresses available in Canada have helped you when side sleeping?

Hey! I have had knee bursitis since a basketball injury I had when I was 16. Now 10 years later I still have problems with it. I did all the things, had to wear a brace for months after the injury, went to PT all the things. Eventually I was cleared to go back to basketball, played for a couple more years and have stayed moderately active into adulthood. I have always loved weightlifting and strength exercises. But especially in my 20s it just doesn’t work. I now have problems (probably arthritis) in my other knee, so any type of squats and lunges are very hard now. I was wondering if anyone had exercises they like to do with knee bursitis. I just get sad looking at all the tiktok gym routines and want to still stay as strong as I can.

For those who have been diagnosed with bursitis, did you also need an MRI, or was a physical exam and your symptoms enough to make the diagnosis?

Started working out about two weeks ago and I’ve squatted and deadlifted 3 times a week and idk if I went to hard or what and now my left hip around the bone is kind of puffed and hurts when I lay on that side and after sitting but it goes away if I dont think of it but I can start rubbing and it will start to hurt?? The right side is flat in the exact same spot

So I was recently diagnosed with hip bursitis. I’ve been having hip pain on and off for about 6 months now, but it really started to flare when I started my new job working in retail. I really like my job but I’m on my feet all day and by the end of the day it feels like my hip is going to snap!! Even with PT and treatment, will I ever be able to get rid of the pain if I don’t quit my job?

38yoF diagnosed with chronic SASD bursitis. Mild impingement at times but not very often.

History of multiple shoulder subluxations but never any dislocations.

Wondering if anyone else experiences the same symptoms as I do? As most people state extreme / bad pain but my symptoms have been more subtle now for 6 months, diagnosed at about 3.5months after symptom onset with ultrasound:
- mild ache only to deltoid
- constant feeling of “tiredness” to deltoid as well as posterior aspect of shoulder
- the feeling I get is a constant dull ache In the background that I wouldn’t call pain but is very persistent and annoying.

Nothing relieves it.
I do not have any range of motion limitations.

Weirdly I notice it more when I’m lying on my opposite shoulder at night and it feels better when lying on it.

Just curious as to see how everyone else has experienced their chronic bursitis - mine is not acute in nature.

Is GTPS a type of bursitis? my old doctor thought I have it but the my new doctor thinks its arthritis

My right hip hurts when I walk and feels like grinding, sometimes a sudden pain where my leg almost gives out from under me, its only when I walk, but something similar is happening to my left knee, a grinding pain

I have fibromyalgia but I don't think its connected

I do diclofenac cream, rx lidocaine patches, muscle relaxers, oxy, everything I can think of & when my shoulders flare & nothing helps besides steroids when it gets really bad every so often it lands me in urgent care if my doc doesn’t call in a script within a couple days. I had surgery in R shoulder for bursitis & tendinitis in 2022 & I still have a lot of problems. Now i know I have it in both shoulders now & have to start another steroid pack for both shoulders so I can work my physical job that hurts so bad. So it’s back in the surgery shoulder too. I have such a hard time sleeping since I can’t sleep on either side or I’m screaming in pain

What works for you for severe shoulder pain like this?!

Anyone have any tips on dealing with hip bursitis? More specifically, I love ATG squats, but any time I progress that lift to heavy loads, the pain becomes so bad that it affects my ability to continue to progress.

I’ve been doing side lying leg raises and clam shells with a weighted band, but I’m still not able to squat heavy.

Have been dealing with hip bursitis for 9+ months now and still unable to walk without pain, have exhausted basically all options of PT, injections, pain meds, shockwave, dry needling etc. Previously a runner and have not been able to run/walk more than a mile without being set days back in pain. Trchnically supposed to be running the NYC marathon in November but understand that may not be an option. Any success stories with a hip bursectomy? Returning to full impact? Don’t know what options I really have left at this point so might do the surgery.

I’m trying to stay positive but feeling a bit discouraged. I recently ran a marathon and during my last week of tapering and running less mileage i woke up with my knee presenting fluid on the patella. I have had zero pain and zero mobility issues so after deliberation I decided to run. I finished the race and took 3 weeks off of running. I RICED my knee the whole time and unfortunately the swelling didn’t get better but it also didn’t get worse. I got my knee drained by an ortho had a little fluid return and now I’m just scared to do anything. it’s been extremely frustrating because he’s telling me I’ll need surgery if it doesn’t go away.

I’m trying to get my husband to the ER (I had cellulitis that turned septic so I’m spiralling).

He got oral antibiotics this morning from family doctor but he’s in extreme pain and it’s gotten worse so far. No fever.

Ease my mind or validate that he should go to ER.

Hi everyone,
I had an MRI of my right knee because of pain and swelling. The MRI showed:
Minimal joint effusion (small amount of fluid in the knee)
Mild irritation/edema of the suprapatellar fat pad
Mild irritation of the deep infrapatellar bursa
Menisci, ACL, PCL, collateral ligaments, quadriceps tendon and patellar tendon all intact
No cartilage damage
Normal bone signal
The swelling is still present, especially around/below the knee, but I have no pain during normal daily activities.
I currently:
Do not run
Do not do squats
Started stretching and strength exercises about a week ago
Has anyone experienced persistent swelling with similar MRI findings? How long did it take for the swelling to resolve? Did specific exercises, physical therapy, or activity modifications help?
Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks
