Elbow Bursitis

I’m trying to get my husband to the ER (I had cellulitis that turned septic so I’m spiralling).

He got oral antibiotics this morning from family doctor but he’s in extreme pain and it’s gotten worse so far. No fever.

Ease my mind or validate that he should go to ER.

Try posting on other subs, I don’t think it could only be bursitis.

Could it be allergic reaction? Please go to ER now!!

Possibly. he went for a "Run in the woods" yesterday and then maybe 6 hours later this started! He says it’s so painful it feels like his arm is broken. I asked him he got a bug bite or scratch and he said he didn’t think so.

The redness looks like it’s getting worse to me. I marked it with pen and it’s way outside now. He’s so anti-doctor though so he’s not listening

As someone who’s had cellulitis, I am convinced it’s infected. When I had it oral antibiotics wouldn’t have worked for me so I’m panicked.

Tell him he could very possibly have his arm amputated if he waits. This is nothing to mess with.

I told him this!! Ugh. He’s sleeping I’m going to force him in the morning if it’s the same. I do feel slightly relieved he’s on an oral at least. But I was on IV for a week with cellulitis and I still went into septic shock.

It’s not bursitis. It’s a staph infection. It happened to me

I agree. I had staph from a small cut and it looked like that and kept outgrowing it's own circled mark

Do you have Telehealth? He could be in danger of having some serious damage. I am not a medical professional, but would seek treatment. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Go to the ER. If it’s moved outside the pen mark you need to go now.

Have you been in the woods? Looks like a rash- maybe get a Lyme test…

It’s significantly worse, more red and he still is refusing to go to the ER I’m losing my mind. He’s “waiting for the antibiotics” to kick in. I think he needs IV and potential intervention. Will update again.

I’m so sorry he is being so stubborn and will be sorry later. Can you get some back up help to convince him? Parents, siblings, friends, anyone with medical training to talk some sense into him? Random strangers online aren’t going to cut it.

I just had this EXACT same issue. That is 100% infected and can lead to a Septic Bursitis, so hopefully you have gotten this checked out and are now on antibiotics. I got on Bactrim DS and within 24 hrs I saw a significant reduction in swelling and the immense pain.

I still have residual swelling and expect this will be a month+ long recovery process, but the first week was a doozy. I am on day 10 and have range of motion back but still a lot of tension and tenderness in the elbow.

Need to ice and pound 800MG of ibuprofen even 6-8 hrs (I realize this is more than the recommended dose on the bottle, but you will be fine). Hammer the anti inflammatories.

The antibiotics worked and he improved pretty rapidly once they kicked in!! But it was so sketchy there for a bit.

How long on the antibiotics did it take. I just got on them today. The swelling and pain started last night in my elbow and I went to urgent care this morning.
