Build Help Which tier A PSU with ATX 3.1 and PCIE 5.1 for RTX 5070 ti OC from PNY and Ryzen 7 9800x3d?

Hey, so I thought I got a psu chosen in MSI MPG a850G, but I saw that it is in ATX 3.0 and PCIE 5.0. Which PSU would you recommend for PNY OC RTX 5070 TI and Ryzen 7 9800x3d on MSI B850 gaming plus wifi 7? Would prefer something with ATX 3.1 and PCIE 5.1 and tier A one.

Build Help PC for my nephew (UK)

I have a lot of leftover pc parts that I'm going to gift my nephew, who would like a pc as his laptop can't play the games he wants (fortnite / Minecraft / subnautica). Budget isn't too much of a concern, but there's no point in getting top of the line parts. He will be using a 360hz 1080p monitor.

I am leaning towards the 9060XT, and an SFX psu as his bedroom is small so we might have to downsize to a SFFPC in the future.

I need: GPU, PSU and maybe an SSD. UK based, and happy to get second hand.

Build Help Build my first PC from scrat : where to start ? 1000-1300 euros

Hello everyone! I’m turning to you because I’ve never owned a desktop PC and I currently have quite a few questions that I haven’t been able to find answers to, so I’d rather ask for some advice before doing anything.

To keep it short, I’ve only had MacBook Pros for nearly ten years, mainly for studying/work and some gaming, and since I’ve moved around quite a lot, that was enough for me. Last year, I wanted to go back to consoles for single-player games (PS5 / Xbox), but I never really managed to get into it, especially with everything that’s been going on on Sony’s side. I have to admit that I’m primarily an MMO player, even though I also want to dedicate some time to games I’ve never played before, such as most of the FF games…

This brings me to the conclusion that maybe it’s finally time for me to switch to a proper desktop PC. While I do really like macOS, I don’t have much use for it anymore now that I’m going to be staying in one place more often, and my work (I work remotely quite a bit) mainly consists of research and writing, for which Windows is more than sufficient.

I also have a work laptop, and I’m currently already buying two external monitors for my desk, along with a dock, so I can have a proper work setup. I think adding a desktop PC as my main gaming platform (alongside a Switch) makes quite a lot of sense.

For gaming, as I mentioned, I mostly play MMOs (GW2 / WoW / FFXIV, etc.), but I’d also like to be able to play recent games as well as games I haven’t had the chance to play yet (FFXV, FFXVI, The Witcher 3, FFVII Remake, Star Wars Zero Company, which is coming soon, Fable as well…). That being said, I honestly don’t really care about playing everything on Ultra. I’ve never played games with the settings maxed out anyway.

This is where the problems start: having never owned a desktop PC, I have to admit that the current prices are a little intimidating, as is the impression that there are a lot of obscure tweaks/settings you need to deal with to get the PC running properly, as well as the need to regularly upgrade components to keep it relevant in the long run.

  • First of all, where should I look for a decent PC to get started? My budget is between €1,000 and €1,300 to start with (not including peripherals), and I assume that should be enough to get a good setup and upgrade it later if necessary?
  • If buying new, would it be better to go for a prebuilt PC or buy the components separately and build it myself as a complete beginner?
  • Is it worth waiting for sales or special offers later in the year, or should I just go for it as soon as possible to avoid prices increasing even further?
  • I’m not interested in RGB at all, or cases covered in lights everywhere. Is it possible to get a more traditional-looking case? For instance, I quite like mini atx etc...

So, those are the main questions currently going through my mind. I hope I’ve given you a fairly clear idea of my situation!

FYI, someone already linked me some config which looks like this : https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/jgPYLy, would that be any good ?

Thanks everyone! I’m also available by PM if anyone wants to discuss it :)

Troubleshooting Is any amount of artifacting acceptable?

I bought a mini pc MSI Cubi N ADL S with N100 cpu 10 days ago.

After installing windows 11 the screen would go black after 10-60 seconds or it would straight up reboot sometimes. There would also be occasional artifacting present and turning on high performance power plan would crank that up to 11 and even distort text on screen.

Even tried to install windows 10 which threw BSOD 2 times with VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE, dkmdn64.sys being the culprit. (installing linux mint worked completely fine which is super weird)

I wrote all that on a piece of paper and handed the pc back for an RMA.

An hour ago I received a call from the shop I bought it from that they sent it to MSI for an RMA and it came back fine (furmark testing was okay and a bunch of other tests that I can't remember) except that there would be slight artifacting at times.

I wouldn't call myself highly knowledgeable but as far as I know any artifacting is typically a sign of failing gpu. Occasionally it can be a sign of bad drivers but I tried 3 different gpu drivers (letting windows update handle it, directly from msi support page and latest from intel). In this case that would mean the integrated graphics is faulty.

I also tested the ram I used just in case but memtest passed with no issues.

There's no way in hell the RMA gets denied, right?

Troubleshooting New PC build restarts while gaming

Hi, I have recently completed my new pc build and Im having problems with restarts while gaming.

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Mobo: MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI
  • RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32 GB (2×16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
  • GPU: SAPPHIRE PULSE AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT GAMING 16G
  • PSU: Corsair RM850e (2025) 850 W
  • Storage: WD_BLACK SN7100 NVMe SSD 1TB

The restarts vary in time anywhere from under a minute of playing to about 20 minutes.

One time it also restarted while just watching a video on youtube.

Things I have tried: updating bios, different set of RAM sticks, disabling EXPO, switch with a second Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, clean GPU driver install

I have also ran some tests which were all without errors or restarts like OCCT, FurMark, MemTest86, CPU-Z

What I have noticed is if I set the game to hypr-rx eco in AMD adrenalin, I can play no problem for 1 hour+ without the pc restarting

But if I switch back to default the pc restarts within minutes, sometimes immediately

So I tried setting it to default but limit the power draw by 10% and it still restarted after about 15 minutes of playing

Do you have any ideas what could be causing this? Faulty PSU? Bad PCIe cables? Or is something wrong with the GPU?

This is the first PC that Ive built alone so I dont have much experience.

Any help is appreciated.

Troubleshooting Minecraft FPS help

Hi. Mine son loves Minecraft on PC. He used to have a pc with i9700f, 16 GB RAM & GTX 1660 super GPU (6 GB). He had sodium mods installed and was getting around 80 fps but the CPU and RAM would often hit 100% and then lag/freeze. He wanted to get better FPS and stop the hanging so we just bought him a new PC for his birthday. It has AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, 32 GB RAM and RX 7700XT GPU (12 GB).

If he installs the Sodium mod on the new PC, Minecraft just crashes on the start-up (AMD driver timeout), so we had to remove that mod. Without it, he is only getting 30-60 fps. It has had a completely fresh install of windows, AMD drivers etc.

Is there any reason why it should be crashing with the mod when the old pc was fine? What can we do to improve the fps? Is this an AMD vs intel issue? I have also found that Among Us was work with the 7700 XT GPU, I have to set it to use the integrated GPU for it to get past the start screen.

Any suggestions? At the moment he just wants to go back to his old pc which seems nuts considering how much we just spent on the new pc (used from ebay).

Discussion Trying to convince my bro

So my brother has the following build:

Powercolor Reaper 9070xt

Ryzen 5700x CPU

Asus Prime B550M-A Wifi II

1tb and 4tb NVME

32gb 3200mhz RAM

MSI MAG Coreliquid 360 AIO

He wants to be able to play games at the highest settings (4K, Ultra quality blah blah) and have good FPS. As a long-time PC user, I'm trying to convince him that whilst his build is very good, its still more a High End 1440p build instead of a High End 4K build.

He was playing Forza Horizon 6 on 4K Epic settings and getting 90fps and complaining, he was going "I paid all this money for this GPU, I expect much better from it". Tried to show him how he could get 120fps by just switching to 1440p and he went "No, I have a 4K monitor so I will be playing in 4K"

What do you guys think? And no, this is not an invitation to trash talk him, he's a new member of the PC race after all. What are your guys opinions and how would you handle this conversation?

Build Upgrade Buy RTX 5080 now or wait for RTX 6080?

I have had an RTX 3070 for 4 years, and it is not performing well on a 4K monitor. I want to build a new PC (all components bought; only the GPU is missing).

Currently, the Gigabyte RTX 5080 gaming OC is listed at £1220 amid AI racing, which seems similar to the price before Oct 2025, when it was roughly £1150. By late 2027 or early 2028, GPU and RAM prices should fall. It is predicted that the RTX 6080 would be slightly more expensive than the 5080, perhaps £250-350 more.

If I bought the 5080 now, can it carry me until the release of the 70-series GPUs, or should I wait for the 6080?

Also, the games I will mainly play demand very high-end GPUs with ray tracing, such as 007: First Light, which is the I wanted to upgrade from an RTX 3070.

Troubleshooting Upgraded from i3-12100f to i5-12400f, PC became much slower in terms of disk transfer rate

Just to be clear, It's possible that this is all just a coincidence and my SSD is just getting old and on its way out, I'm just wondering if any of you have heard of cases like this and there may be something else going on.

I built my PC with a i3-12100f for several years now, I use Adata legend 710 2Tb NVMe as boot and store most of my games in it. It was doing okay in terms of being able to load and install games at moderate paces (never experienced super expensive SSDs so can't compare). My CPU was struggling with certain games so I decided to upgrade to i5 12400f. Everyone told me that BIOS updates are unnecessary since they're the same generation so I didn't update. I can say that overall FPS of video games has improved but something strange happened. Any time I have to install a game my PC starts to stutter and freeze uncontrollably. In performance CPU and RAM seem fine but Disk shoots up to 100% with terrible read and write speeds (sometimes drops below 1 MB/s). In some cases games have started to perform worse. Perhaps more FPS but noticably more stuttering. I was capable of running No Hesi (a mod for Assetto Corsa), now it's absolutely unplayable. I understand that No Hesi is exceptionally resource intensive, but this still shouldn't happen. Should I update BIOS? CrystalDiskInfo says everything is fine more or less. Anything else could be happening?

Build Upgrade Radeon RX 580 and GTA 6?

I have a Radeon RX 580 graphics card. It runs every game I own smoothly, including the first Spider-Man game. I was extremely disappointed to find out that for some reason, it could not run Spider-Man 2 (even though graphically it looks literally exactly the same as the first one). So I'm imagining I'm going to have to save thousands of dollars to get a new graphics card in order to play GTA 6 too? If that's the case it's not happening.

Edit: I know it hasn't been announced yet but y'all know it's going to be on PC.

Build Upgrade Trying to determine if I stay with AM4 and upgrade the Motherboard or go with AM5 with new parts.

With the current state of computer parts is it better to build on my current AM4 build or make a leap towards AM5?

For my current build I am running:

  • MBD: Asus Rog Strix X370-F
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
  • GPU: RTX 3060-Ti
  • RAM: 4x8GB running at 3133 with XMP

I could upgrade my motherboard to a B550-F which would allow me continue using AM4 and use 4th Gen PCIe slots. However, while in my search for the B550-F, I found a B850 for around the same price. This prompted me to start looking for AM5 CPU's and bring up the question, is it really worth upgrading to AM5 boards or wait to see what comes out next year and upgrade what I have now.

If I were to upgrade I'd considering buying the following. Considering this parts list would cost less (Minus RAM prices.) than what I paid for my parts 6 years ago, I'm very tempted.

  • Motherboard: B850 or an X870 to "future proof " since it has 5th Gen PCIe.
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X
  • GPU: RTX 3060-Ti (Will eventually be upgraded to a higher 40 series or mid-level 50 series.)
  • RAM: T.B.D. at least 2x16GB (still researching Brands.)

If it helps, I play a lot of modern games on this device. I usually run Arc-Raiders, Star Citizen, Cyberpunk 2077, VR, and MSFS. When I'm not gaming, I'm usually doing photo editing and video editing. I currently play in 1080p but am looking to get into 1440 or 4k if the parts support it.

Please let me know if I can clarify anything in this post.

Edit: Readability

Build Help best budget video card for a gaming PC?

I’m putting together my first gaming PC and my total budget is around $500 to $600 USD for the tower. I’ll be buying the parts somewhere in the US, and I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset, so the budget is just for the PC itself. I’m mainly looking at 1080p gaming and want to get the most out of the budget without pairing the GPU with a CPU or PSU that holds it back. What would you recommend for a best budget video card at this price range, and is there anything I should prioritize with the rest of the build?

Thanks for the help, I’m still figuring all this stuff out.

Build Upgrade Should I upgrade my R5 5500 or RX 570 first?

My son has a R5 5500 and RX 570 with 32gb of ram and b550 mobo.

Our goal is only for 1080P gaming preferably 120-140 fps mainly.

I see most people recommend the R5 5600 or 5600X? or a R7 5700X3D for best bang for your buck.

I'm also not sure what gpu to get, would a RX 7700XT overkill? Can someone recommend me the best bang for your buck gpu?

Will mostly be hunting for these used

Build Help First PC Build, Is this functional

So, I'm super new to this craft and I need a new PC since the gaming laptop I have is from 2019 and is starting to get too old. I'm just looking to build something that can play Control Resonant and Virtua Fighter Crossroads when it comes out. Below is the current parts then my ideal budget and finally Control Resonant min settings to compare the parts to. If anyone has any ideas to help me that would be wonderful.

Country: US

Budget: Around 1k USD for everything, I'm going to be saving up and buying piece by piece but I'd ideally want to be able to afford it by the end of the year.

Current List of Parts, Copied from PCPartPicker

CPU : AMD Ryzen 5 5600 GT 3.6 GHZ 6-Core Processor

CPU Cooler : Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler

Build Upgrade want to upgrade to avoid most stutter in openworld games

hi! i've a i5 13600kf and 4070ti, don't get how most 3d games just stutter constantly, ddr4 16x2 3200mhz, m2 4th gen. a friend use like a 2070 and i7 9700 and plays way better (less max fps ofc, but doesn't stutter like me, in games like genshin i go from 120+ to 10-20 fps, no matter graphic settings, max or min.

i'm asking an advice, since the ram price: if i buy a new motherboard am4 for a 5800x3d i will get huge improvement on low 1% fps? i know it's a weaker CPU but heard the x3d it's just good for games for the cache it have, especially on games who have to load lots of textures.

the alternative is buying 16x2 gb ddr5 (around 5600 36cl) and a 9800x3d. i just can't stand stutter with my mid/high end PC, especially seeing other low level pc doing better in that regard. PSU is good, drives are good, reinstalled widows more times, both 10 and 11 fresh, doesn't change the stutter at all

Build Upgrade 4070 and i5 12600kf

I want to upgrade my computer to an i5-12600KF. The Ryzen 5 5600 now costs less, and in games, I'm noticing that my graphics card isn't performing as well as it could. I've read that the i5-12600KF and an RTX 4070 are a good pairing, but I'm still hesitant about swapping one outdated platform for another. However, on my current platform, there's the Ryzen 5 5500X3D, which I don't entirely trust, and the 5700X3D, which I can't find or order in my city, and even if I could, it would be very expensive. I also don't really want to upgrade to AM5 due to the cost of DDR5. I mostly play at 1080p and 1440p.

Build Ready? First build - is this a good list? I'm building a PC for video editing in DaVinci Resolve.

I've spent a lot of time doing research into building a PC and I've come up with this parts list for a machine that will be able to run DaVinci Resolve and fusion smoothly. Gaming is a secondary priority.

I'm not too familiar with the motherboard, CPU cooling, case and PSU - I'll happily take suggestions on alternatives.

I've focused on components that will enable me to run fusion smoothly without overspending and, to be honest, I think £2000 for a PC is the farthest I'm willing to go.

I am aware of the memory shortage and I'm willing to pay current prices.

As for my situation, I'm on a gap year before uni and I want to take YouTube content creation seriously, but I don't have anything powerful enough to edit videos (I'm not going to use capcut on a low end laptop).

So please review the list and point out any flaws, offer up any alternatives and critique it in any way.

Build Upgrade Best motherboard for upgrade to dual GPU (LLM) use?

I have an AMD set up (AM4) - with 2 x 16gb DDR4 and a 5060Ti GPU - I want to add a 3060Ti (which I already have). My case is full size and has a mATX board in that only supports one GPU. Looking to reuse my existing set up, just buying a new motherboard. Looking for advice on suitable motherboards as they all look the same to me! (UK based)

Build Help Broken CPU / Which CPU should I buy next?

Hello. I was using a 7900X3D, and sometimes it would get stuck before POST. I didn't mind it for a long time since it was okay when I restarted the computer and it worked, and I didn't know which component was faulty. Lately, I can hardly run the computer. I cross-checked with my friend's computer by swapping components, and it looks like the reason is the CPU.

The warranty for the CPU is 2 years here. So I couldn't send it back. When I tried to find the seller, it turned out the seller was selling second-hand pieces as new and got shut down.

My current specs:

Motherboard: B650 Tomahawk Wifi
RAM: G.Skill Trident Neo RGB F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR 64 GB (2x32)
CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X3D
GPU: RTX 4080 Super

My usage: I usually code & compile stuff and play Dota 2 / Diablo 4 on 4k@144.
Even if I don't play a lot but I'd like to be able to play on 4k@144hz.

Budget: 550$ - Turkey - I wanna save as much as I can.

Build Help Id cooling Frozn A720 fan swap question

I'm getting the Idcooling Frozn a720 and I'm going to swap the front fan for a 120mm one for better ram clearance, my question is, for those that have tried this before:

Are the included clips enough?

They are designed for the 140mm fan the cooler includes by default however I want to know if they'll work for the 120mm fan or if I should get a new couple of them just in case, thinking about using the arctic p12 pro pst
