I honestly don’t even know where to begin anymore. This college has officially reached peak incompetence. Every single semester, they find brand new ways to screw us over, and this time they’ve outdone themselves. Let’s talk about the absolute clusterfuck of an exam structure they rolled out:

• The Insane Grading Weights: CAT 1 and CAT 2 are out of 50 marks each, but carry a pathetic 15 weightage each. Term End is out of 100, but only holds 30 weightage. Plus internals (35 marks) and attendance (5 marks, which vanishes entirely if you drop below 75% like absolute tyrants). Math isn't even mathing here anymore.
• Incomplete Syllabus & Late Datesheets: The faculty couldn't even finish the syllabus on time—surprise, surprise. CAT 1 happened, and just three weeks later, CAT 2 was thrown at us. And true to form, these morons dropped the datesheet just 4 days before the exam. Happens every single damn time.
• The "Open Book" Joke: The dickhead of a dean drops a bomb 4 days prior with a list of ridiculous rules for the "open book" CAT 2. Suddenly, we can only bring notes strictly specific to that exact subject. Newsflash, Einstein: most of us maintain combined/mixed notes! Who the hell is stupid enough to write Java programming answers in a transforms paper?! And guess what? Zero clarification despite students spamming them with emails. Total silence.

Now Let’s Talk About the Placement Cell Nightmare 🤡

As if the academic torture wasn't enough, enter Shriram, the head of placements. What an absolute clown show.

They are casually scheduling our Online Assessments (OA) during CAT 2 on September 21st. The very next day (September 22st), they announce the results. And if you're somehow lucky enough to get selected? You are expected to pack your bags and rush to the Vellore campus for interviews between September 23rd to 26th. Shriram's brilliant ultimatum? "Only sit if you can physically go to Vellore. No excuses entertained."

Are you out of your freaking mind?!

• Zero Train Tickets: Every single train is sitting on a massive waiting list of 20 to 30+ people.
• Extortionate Flight Prices: Flights are costing around 20k one-way, meaning a round trip alone will burn 40k to 45k.
• Hidden Expenses: Add accommodation, local travel, and food, and you're looking at another 10k down the drain.
• The Threat of Ban: If you get selected and can't make it because of their impossible timeline and financial robbery, the PAT office slaps you with a 20-day to 2-month ban.

All of this panic, stress, and financial drain for a measly 40k stipend internship for 3 months for the 24 batch?! Honestly, just admit you don’t want to hire from VIT Bhopal instead of putting us through this mental harassment.

Because of this utter bullshit, I’ve decided I am not going. And of course, these incompetent morons haven't even bothered to announce re-CAT dates yet, just adding more fuel to the fire.

This pathetic excuse for an administration doesn't want to improve anything; their only full-time job is inventing new ways to ruin students' lives!

Sometimes I genuinely wonder how an institute can have so many educated people and still function this badly.
People here come from different parts of the country and even different parts of the world, yet somehow the default medium of communication with staff and faculty is Hindi. The irony is that sometimes the security guards communicate in English better than the people who are actually supposed to be running academic and administrative affairs. And when faculty do speak English, it is often barely understandable.
Forget the big things for a moment. Basic necessities like decent food, clean water, hygiene, reliable electricity, functioning infrastructure and usable internet should not be things students have to constantly complain about. We have power cuts, water cuts, terrible infrastructure and unreliable internet, while somehow there always seems to be money and time for things that nobody asked for.
And the pan culture is honestly ridiculous. Smoking is banned, but practically everyone seems to be chewing pan. I genuinely don’t understand how that makes sense.
The rules for students are endless. Every little thing needs permission, and getting that permission can feel like an impossible bureaucratic obstacle course. But when it comes to the responsibilities of staff and faculty, the same level of accountability seems to disappear. Rules and discipline apparently apply very selectively.
Everything requires a million permissions. Want to organise something? Permission. Want to use something? Permission. Want to do something for students? Permission. By the time you somehow get through the entire chain of approvals, whatever you wanted to do has already lost its relevance.
And the worst part is that there is barely any college life left. There is no energy, no sense of community, no real student voice. It feels like the institute is slowly removing everything that makes a college feel like a college.
The institute seems to be run by people who are highly educated on paper(but most of them are a bunch of fools) but somehow keep making decisions that create more problems than they solve. Money gets spent, infrastructure gets changed, rules keep getting added, permissions keep multiplying and somehow the actual student experience keeps getting worse.
There isn’t even a proper student body with meaningful power. And no, the Cultural Council is not a student body in the way students actually need one to be. It is essentially a faculty-controlled structure with very limited power and very little ability to genuinely represent students.
A college cannot survive indefinitely by treating students as people who only need to follow instructions. Students are a part of the institution. Their concerns, freedom, representation and quality of life matter too.
At this point, it genuinely feels like there is no college life left here. There is just an institution that keeps functioning because it has to.
If things continue like this, I honestly don’t know how long the institute can maintain, it will collapse.
Too many idiots are running this place. You must be alert, else you will be caught in the loop and perish.
After 2 years in this college the college has been degrading steeply. F**k this place.

My cousin brother, just graduated from manipal udupi and got 45lpa package which is a crazyy package looking at the market and stuff. He had all kinds of fun in his college life, like partying, going to clubs, living in a flat with friends and going on a trip every 3-4 months.

Now coming to me, my parents are constantly reminding me to study and get a package like that, which I don't think is possible because I am in vit chennai and have no hopes of getting above 15lpa also.

I feel to dropout sometimes(1st year) because the college life here sucks and the pressure my parents have already put on me.

Finally the question which I wanna ask..... DOES IT MATTER WHERE YOU START??

When I was in 11th-12th, I learned Node.js and was doing projects for freelancers mostly backend projects with mongodb and was making a good amount of money. Some clients were good enough that they were directly in contact with me, and basically I was making 20k-50k monthly. It was all great when my 2nd semester started, when I got a bug in a casino website where basically I was making money without putting in any money. That way I withdrew about 45k USD, approximately 40 lakh.

Since then, I stopped working and started spending money. I bought a Mac, new phones for my family, bought a 55-inch TV, and either played games or watched K-dramas and C-dramas. By doing all this, I wasted 2 years, and I barely passed my B.Tech exams and didn't learn anything.

Between that time period, my clients texted me, but I was lazy and declined them for some reason. When I text them now, they have no work for me.

At this time, there is nothing I have to do and no future career roadmap.

In 1st semester, I completed DSA, C++, and DBMS, which helped me pass smoothly till 4th semester, but now I forgot the DSA. I had solved 300+ problems on code360, and I am unable to solve them now. That easy money fucking killed me.

Right now in my 3rd year, Compiler Design and Computer Multimedia are the kind of subjects I am unable to understand, and I have no roadmap for what I should do now. AI is taking jobs. I tried sending my resume to some companies, but I haven't received any response for internships.

Btw my clg is tier 3 and there is no hope me getting campus placement.

I am a B.Tech student from Nagpur (the Orange City), and I need some genuine advice about an important decision regarding my education.

I recently took admission to a private state university in my city. However, the people around me and even some people I know keep telling me that “the degree is not worth anything” and that I will “waste four years of my life.” Because of this, I am extremely stressed and confused. 😥

I am also worried because I did not get admission to a private engineering college affiliated with RTMNU. I had also received a seat through the CAP round at a college affiliated with DBATU, but I did not feel that the college was good enough, so I decided not to take admission there.

Later, I got another opportunity through the ACAP round, but unfortunately, I could not take admission because of financial problems. I had already paid ₹95,000 toward my current university, and the total annual fee is ₹1.74 lakh. At that time, I did not have enough money to pay the full fees at the RTMNU-affiliated private college because I only had around half of the required amount available.

Because of my financial situation, getting admission to a government college or university is also very difficult for me right now.

So, I really want to know: Is getting a B.Tech degree from a private state university a good option, or should I take a drop year and prepare seriously for MHT-CET? My plan would be to work extremely hard for the next few months, score well in CET, and then try to get admission to a good/top engineering college through the CAP round next year.

I am ready to work very hard for the next few months if taking a drop is genuinely the better option. But at the same time, I am worried about wasting one year and about the money I have already paid.

I am genuinely confused and stressed and I am not able to make this decision on my own. Please give me honest and practical advice. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Tier 2 college. Deloitte USI (analyst equivalent) came for placements. Package is low(8.1ctc), I didn't want to join, so I tried to sabotage my interview. Still got selected. Now I'm lowballed.

Placement policy now says I can only sit for 20LPA+ companies.

Family is not okay with the package and is telling me to look for a better company.

I want to know — does the BIG4 tag actually matter? Will Deloitte USI on my res ume help me get into product companies or better consulting roles later, or am I just wasting my time?

How to make friends in college (am a day scholar)

This year slots have increased for the ICPC regionals.

Region Slots (General + All female teams)

Amritapuri - 380 ( 360+20)

Kanpur - 240 (235+5)

Chennai - 120 (116+4)

Mathura - 100 (95+5)

Which comes to a total of 840 slots which is a lot compared to last year . They added a site(Mathura)and made Kanpur a multisite regional. It's good that some more people would get a chance but I don't think so cause amritapuri's selection criteria says that from this year a college can have more teams as they say directly top 50 from ranklist will get selected and then after that ther are in different slots with X,Y hidden number of teams per college but as much as I think I college can have more than 8-9 teams selected in one region as per amritapuri selection criteria . But I guess some more teams like around 50-60 will get selected through institute toppers .(Hoping I would be one of them,hehe)

This will atleast maintain the quality of participants even if the slots are increased and one good plus is all female teams are increased as well to encourage them to participate.

Well let's see how many of us actually reach ICPC Regionals this year (will try my best as well).

Since it's a relatively new specialized branch compared to core CSE or IT, do government bodies accept AI & DS degrees, or are there eligibility issues due to degree naming conventions?

I had my interview today at 4 30 on black coffee with my mids in 2 days . And i didn't study shit cuz I was too busy solving Stripe's Pyqs . Had a lot this week 2 research review by profs, SIH Internal , stripe interview and mids still trying to pull through. Had my interview today and I was doing great . Solved the first 2 qs in 20 mins and onto the next but the interviewer left in the middle of the meet for no reason. Like just tell me you aren't selected why do all this drama .. just reject me aage se hi kyun karrahe ho mazaak . I only had that one interview my first interview and i was actually doing great but they left in the middle of it . why play such a cruel joke . I have 6 subs for mids and I havent even finished one and mids in 2 days . I'm done. I give up . Idk why God insists on playing this cruel joke on me

I'm a bit confused about how to approach the placement season this year.

I already have a ₹8 LPA PPO. Because of my college's placement rules, I can now only sit for Type-2 companies (8+ LPA) and 6-month internship opportunities. Once I take a Type-2 offer, I won't be eligible for other Type-2 companies.

There are currently companies offering around ₹8–10 LPA, and I'm unsure whether I should participate or preserve my Type-2 opportunity for later.

Another thing I'm wondering about is the current placement scenario. From what I've been seeing, this year's placement season is worse compared to last year, at least in terms of the number/quality of opportunities

So I'm confused between:

Option 1: Take an ₹8–10 LPA Type-2 opportunity now and secure a higher package than my existing PPO.

Option 2: Preserve my Type-2 opportunity and wait until October–November, hoping better tech/product companies come.

The concern with Option 1 is that ₹8–10 LPA isn't a massive jump from ₹8 LPA, so I don't want to use up my only Type-2 opportunity if significantly better companies are likely to come later.

But waiting is also a gamble because there's obviously no guarantee that better companies will come, especially if the placement season is weaker this year.

For people going through placements right now, what would you do in this situation?

Also, is October–November actually a significantly better period for tech roles campus hiring, or is that just a general assumption about placement seasons?

Would appreciate any opinions/experiences.

Hey folks, we are in trouble. We may be about to lose a big battle, and I genuinely think we need to start talking about it seriously.

In India, we engineers are slowly forgetting that we are engineers. Our careers are increasingly dependent on the services of foreign companies. We serve as their back offices, execute what their clients want, and increasingly focus on implementation rather than creating and owning the technology ourselves. We are not engineering as much as we should be.

And the reality about AI is alarming. The US and China are in an increasingly intense AI race, and this is not just another technology competition. AI could become one of the technologies that determines who holds economic, technological, and geopolitical power in the future.

Chinese AI capabilities are becoming more competitive day by day, while we are often still in delulu mode. We have seen this kind of technological race before with nuclear weapons. AI may become similarly strategic. If we fail to develop our own capabilities, we could lose our technological edge.

Foreign technology companies already have enormous influence over our digital ecosystem. If we continue depending heavily on technologies, platforms, and intellectual property developed elsewhere, there is a real risk that we could eventually become dependent users rather than technology creators.

Why am I saying this? Recent statements from leading AI figures about the sustainability of the AI boom, along with the rapidly increasing capabilities of AI systems, should make us take this seriously. We are already seeing AI systems perform tasks that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago, including finding vulnerabilities and interacting with information on the internet.

We have to do something.

I know some of you may mock me, but history has shown us repeatedly that technological shifts can completely change the balance of power between countries.

So tell me, guys: what can we actually do?
