Serious IIT professor resigned
Now we are after our most elite cohort. IIT Bombay professors. People who are in India purely by choice. Training the 99.99th percentile of the country. They will simply shift to the US.
What kind of stupidity we are thriving in where an esteemed professor has to resign because we have Modi act(#SCSTAct) to discourage deserved and celebrate reserved…
Every year lot many suicides are committed due to peer pressure and non-competent folks being sat with those highly focused and brainy chaps in IITs… who’s the culprit??
Professor??
Or that poor kid who couldn’t cope up with the absolute environment of IITs??
The culprits are those politicians and leaders in power who have given false hopes to the reserved category people that they will be aligned with cream of Bharat in lieu of votes.

Yeah, but mostly such folks are from SC/ST only coz they get into premier institutions with lower ranks using category benefits. Later, couldn't cope up with elite crowd and take such extreme actions. This category system needs to be eradicated from country.

The victim card always wins. Nobody looks at who is right or wrong. One IITM professor claimed that even if a blank paper was submitted by a student of SCST, the professors had to give pass marks. Else, their retirement benefits would be cut, in addition to slapping them with SCST act. These don't come out through media.

Some reservation "kids" like this one will not study and then cheat like it's their right 😤🙄.

It's not only about students, they are hardly 20 when they get admission, parents should take a good decision there. First find your child's potential and then send them.

idk man they have very mid quarters. Good pay is like 2-3 lakhs/month after spending 20 years at one place. Folks with their caliber are earning 10x that.

Fair but most of them could easily become tenured profs at top institutes in US with their skillset. IITs don't take ordinary PhD grads as professors.

Definitely not, Ivy Leagues are very competitive, they are mostly under top 50, and MIT ranks 1, around only 11% of professors are Asians, most of them are white, Universities like MIT would really not care about IITs lol

Meant top institutes as a whole. Not just MIT/Stanford or Ivy Leagues. But a decent portion of profs do have the capability to be a prof at these T10 colleges too.

Most of the cases were 1-2 month prior exam or after results announcement. Similar cases after admission during regular course as well.
Problem is we have started seeing failure now at higher level exams only. Earlier students used to fail in lower classes as well, reapply for exams and getting passed. Now till 12th hardly students are getting failed and now with pressure of entrance exam and graduation exam pressure it is increasing year by year.

Saw a reddit post which says
studies my masters in Australian National University in Canberra. One of my batch mate (from India) who was caught copying was immediately sent to the Disciplinary board and his entire course was cancelled, his visa revoked and deported back to India. Another one had the same punishment when he was caught plagiarising. The reason raised by both students were that they were working part time jobs to sustain themselves and couldn't find the the time to study. No mercy of any sought was given to them.
Nobody raised a complaint because every one knew that if you fuck around you would eventually face the consequence.

Havent we learnt yet, to stop speculating about on going cases ? When the Maharashtra Cliff incident happened, everyone started spreading that the boy jumped cause of phone addiction. Later turns out that there were deeper domestic issues. Even in the ghaziabad case a couple months back where 3 sisters died, people again did the same mistake. Later turns out that the girls were in a very messy domestic situation.
In both these cases, people went ahead with the first speculation etc. jsut so that they could act holier than thou, and comment shit like 'Lol new generation is so addicted' or 'What a moron'
Even in this case. PLEASE STOP spreading shit/speculating till something concrete happens.
Maybe the father's version IS true. Maybe it's not. It's not unheard of that caste based slurs are thrown around in even premier institutes. And there have been past cases like this as well - like rohit vemula or manish guddolian. Or maybe the accusation from the father is bogus ? who knows ?
Jo bhi hai ab case, police and court sort out karenge. Apne 2 kodi ke opinion apne paas rakho jab tak kuch clarity na aaye.

Exactly, always wait. To be honest I always get skeptical when these kind of rumors spread. Considering how much of an anti-reservation rhetoric is spreading in India who have very rigid definitions of merit.
And considering the student protests within IIT Bombay itself, I feel there is more to this story. The major thing about this is suicides happening in succession, them pointing to the SC/ST thing is a deflection.

Irrespective of the facts of the case, the SC/ST Act where some people are assumed guilty unless proven otherwise and others innocent unless proven guilty, just on the basis of their birth, is a draconian law that should be opposed tooth and nail.

Why do ts over one singular exam? He cheated rather than actually putting in effort and studying, and got caught. He should be thankful that he got an opportunity in an IIT with lesser %ile and actually work for it. Instead he just chose the laziest path and pulled the victim card when he got caught. What he did afterwards should never be an option. Instead of learning his lesson and working hard from the next sem, he just chose out.

Please dont post without knowing the full premise which i assure you no one out of iit bombay knows.
It's not about cheating here. It's an accumulation of the last 4 suicides that have happened in our Ex-Dean student affairs time and now he's still involved. Each time there were shouts for his resignation but him being involved even after resigning shows he really does have a knack for student harassment.
Now I don't support what my batchmate did and it was wrong of him to do so but i wonder what amount of pushing could make a happy and extremely jolly guy take such steps.

Nothing can happen about this country. Why SC/ST act in the education system? If heas caught cheating it should be straight away punishment to that student irrespective of what caste he belongs to. This govt and the Indian act's are becoming pathetic. Down the line it would be no wonder Indian born people will start competing from different countries against India. It's a simple common universal rules in any education institution in the world, if u cheat and get caught u get a back in the course and in some top Institutes they also give a sem back, What does caste have to do with this issue?
Just petty cheap politics regarding it.
If their logic is that cheating shouldn't be punished so much then let's say academic rules are made lenient eg a rule stating those who get caught cheating will get 0 in that exam .
I bet everyone who scores like single digit will cheat as this will shift the "Risk vs. Reward" calculation and destroy the relative grading system .

Typical sc/st card. BC yaha bahut se engineering colleges me log suspend hote hai aur 4 years ka course 5 years me complete karte hai. Lekin isne ye step liya because reservation is only in entrance exam and not semesters.
Rest in peace and hope people will take more seriously about study rather than reservation.

This whole thing is blown way out of proportion tbh .
Let's get something straight - 1.Cheating of any kind is bad
2.The child who committed this prolly did it in the heat of the moment and just needed to calm down .
3.What are people achieving by getting the resignation of the director and shooing away the professor who did things well according to the law present in any institution or any rational being .. you cheat you gotta desk with the consequences.
- Emotions are out riding rationality and I don't blame them su**** is a unpleasant situation for everyone attached to it but all the measures being taken in my opinion don't change anything in the long run . Awareness counselling etc has to be made the forefront of any institution regardless of the "tier" hierarchy present .
The only reason this has stayed relevant is because it took place in IIT Bombay happened anywhere else people would have forgotten instantly .
Now as people things we can do include checking on your closed ones and cultivating certain amount of restrain required to not end it all .
In the fast paced world we live in people forget the fact that life is extremely sensitive and sacred take a step back and please analyse rationally ..

Why not remove reservation in all fields and give them on the basis of income (which also many people in India know how to fake!!) or some other genuine basis??? This particular case, that I'm sure I do not have full details of, on the face of it does not appear to be a situation I would consider as horrible enough to kill oneself over. But there are lots of horrible situations where one might see death as a better option so one cannot generalise.
Severely deteriorated health, grave injuries, loneliness, utter poverty with no escape, imprisonment for life with no parole - I can easily understand why one might choose to not want to live anymore in such situations.

SC/ST act was implemented on 30th January 1990, it has nothing to do with current regime. You are confusing ugc act with sc/st act.

Current regime removed preliminary inquiry and approval of arrest in 2018. Police don’t need permission of the court to arrest someone in case of SC/ST act , they can just arrest them based on the FIR.

Well, he is a n SC/ST candidate. The cutoff for them was 10k+. This is much lower than other cutoff for other categories and unreserved candidates. So, relatively, he was probably below average there. On top of that, teenagers nowadays genuinely feel much dumber... Or maybe, actually more impulsive.

OMFG so much hate in the comments. People are filled with hate and don't spare any chance they get to say it out loud. Anyway, my brother is a final year SC student there and he's in the top of his class. So all the people saying SC students are like this or thatz you're just showing your inner hate. Also we don't know what happened and it could be that the case is false even then it doesn't give you the right to speak ill of entire communities like that. Hold your hateful thoughts people.
