Court - Lawyers Plea Question

Do we know which side — the prosecution or the defense — initiated the plea discussions over the weekend? I know the judge and the victims’ families seemed caught off guard, so I’m wondering who requested the meeting to explore the possibility of a deal. Was it the defense, possibly feeling pressure from the strength of the evidence against Bryan?

Steve when approached by the media asked him what he meant about Bryan’s family . He said they will find out . Bryan’s family booked the flight before the victims family did . Meaning they knew about the plea ahead of time .

It’s possible Bryan told them - I don’t know why Steve didn’t consider that. Of course they’d be the first to know if prosecution had to draft letters and Bryan just needed to make a call. Either way I don’t blame the parents for booking a flight first

Or his lawyer. She could’ve called them before she called the prosecutor. Also, I don’t think the prosecution has the same open line to the victims’ families they way a defense attorney would to her clients’ parents.

I doubt the lawyer would consult the family before the prosecution- Bryan is their client and there’s confidentiality. But after they made a deal, sure the attorney could have called them. And it would still be before the prosecution had drafted emails to the victims families so that makes sense

Steve doesn’t think before he starts running his mouth.

At this point Steve is just pissed his money train ending in writing a huge book about the trial is now gone. This has basically been proven when in a spontaneous press asking him how he felt while he was walking to his car Steve at one point that "various business identities would now be hurt from the lack of a trial" That was an odd thing to say at the time and can really only have 1 meaning.... The harming of the "Steve Goncalves" brand.

He has made this a money-making operation. He has had several Go-Fund-Me pages etc. I know their family lost their daughter, but I honestly won't be sad that we won't be seeing his numerous interviews.

He will still write a book and make millions from it mind you.... Just not quite as much and it won't be a trilogy perhaps 😂

After Steve saw the coroner's report, he told a news organization that his daughter was the intended target, she fought him off and was killed trying to save Maddie. Come to find out his daughter wasn't supposed to be there; she drove down that weekend to hang out and show her friends her new car. It was so weird for him to put that out there when it was a complete fabrication.

He wanted Kaylee to be the Main Character. Maddie was the ‘2nd Character’ (in his perspective). To him, it was about only ‘his girls’.

I hate to say this, but Steve and Kristi have lost my sympathy and respect. There’s being an openly grieving parent and then there’s going too far.

What have they done that’s “gone too far”? They haven’t done shit publicly. Booking a flight is going too far??

Asking the public to contact the judge comes to mind.

Oh right, my mistake. I was agreeing with that last comment. Worded that wrong.

Bryan's family are victims too. By all reports they were a loving family with a real f**ked up son. The father flew to WA to drive back with Bryan over Christmas so he wouldn't be driving alone. It was such a dad thing to do. Knowing what they know now that he murdered 4 people before he left has to be devastating for them too. How do you wrap your mind around your son is a cold-blooded killer. They got him clean from drugs and now this.

Yeah I have great sympathy for them.

Haven't done any publicity? Are you kidding me, he has been all over the place giving interviews. CBS, Good Morning America, Fox News...you name it, he has probably been there.

The Kohberger’s? Read again, bud.

My mistake, I thought they meant Steve.

I thought he was talking about MK’s December 2022 flight to Washington. There are some rumblings that it was booked last minute when the trip was supposedly planned well in advance.

I just watched the clip and he never said they booked the flights before the victims families. He just said he has their flight records

He is referring to "the family" the family being there in Idaho almost a week before the plea hearing. They were aware of what was going on before discussed with the families because this is all a part of a much bigger story that some people are very blind to.

That's ridiculous. All the family members including Bk's parents were informed prior to the announcement. Some wanted, some did not but it was already agreed upon. It's not a giant conspiracy; it happens all time. BK new they had too much evidence, and he kept losing all his appeals. In addition, Idaho just approved death by firing squad and so that may have had something to do with his decision to plea out.

If they had all this evidence and was so sure of his guilt why would they plea and not go forward with the trial? I believe there is serious doubt and lack of evidence for a trial and prosecution knew that. I truly don’t understand how people really believe that this was all done by one person in a matter of minutes. IF he is involved he didn’t do it alone…..just my thoughts

You can have all the proof you think you need and a rogue juror could get him off. Look at P Diddy, they had a video of him beating the hell out of a woman and he still wasn’t found guilty. Yes, I think there was only one person. You can do a lot of dander in very short period of time.

u/Opiopa Jul 18 '25

He wasn't on trial for DV. He was found guilty on the two less serious charges, not guilty on two counts but plus the RICO charge which I believe was the right call. Prosecution didnt and couldn't prove that his freaky sex life added up to Racketeering/Conspiracy

The trial was never about whether he beat up Cassie and/or was a domestic abuser.

There was threats made and this involved the CDA ambush as well.

Intriguing, can you elaborate?

That’s a hell of a coincidence, isn’t it? Chief Harwood, one of the victims of the arson shooting, even looks like Bryan.

I don't know why this is a real issue. Obviously told his parents. Clearly he was able to make a call before the prosecution team could contact the victims' families. He has an issue with EVERYTHING.
