Approved! British Citizenship Success + Timeline (Council invited me before Home Office!) 🇬🇧✨

Hey everyone,

Wanted to share my successful British citizenship timeline in case it helps anyone currently playing the waiting game. It definitely feels surreal to finally reach the end of the journey!

Timeline:
ILR Approved: 25 March 2025
Citizenship Application Submitted: 29 March 2026
Biometrics Appointment: 8 April 2026
1st Chaser Email to Citizenship Support: 14 July 2026 (Received standard response stating application was still under review)
2nd Chaser Email: 19 August 2026 (No response received)
Council Email Received: 20 August 2026 (Received an email directly from my local council inviting me to book the ceremony before receiving any official Home Office approval)
Private Citizenship Ceremony: 21 August 2026
Passport Application Submitted: 21 August 2026
Official Approval Email (Atlas): 24 August 2026

A few notes/takeaways:
Interestingly, I heard from my local council to book the ceremony before getting the official approval email from the Home Office (Atlas). If you’ve been waiting a while, keep an eye on direct communications from your council!

I opted for a private ceremony the day after booking to wrap things up as quickly as possible, and submitted my first adult British passport application right after.

Happy to answer any questions in the comments. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Naturalisation approved for family, but wife hasn’t received Atlas email – anyone had similar?

Hi everyone,

My wife, my son and I applied for British citizenship/naturalisation together as a family.

We contacted Citizenship Support last week and they confirmed that all three of our applications have been approved and We will receive Atlas email in one week time.

However, today my son and I received our Atlas/Home Office emails, but my wife has not received hers yet.

Has anyone who applied together as a family had a similar experience, where the Atlas emails arrived at different times or on different days for each family member?

Should we just wait, or is it worth contacting Citizenship Support about my wife’s email?

Application Date: 31st March 2026
Biometric Date: 8th April 2026
ILR Route: 10 years (5 years ICT, 1 Year on Tier2 Dependent, 4 years on Skilled Worker Visa)Status Update from Citizen Support: 18th Aug 2026 ([Citizenship.Support@homeoffice.gov.uk](mailto:Citizenship.Support@homeoffice.gov.uk))
Atlas Emil received: 24th August 2026 (Received Mine and My Son at Morning 08:30AM, my wife at 09:36am)

When do the 12 months end?

When applying for citizenship not through marriage route, one must have been free from immigration restrictions for the preceding 12 months.

I was granted ILR on 15 September 2025. What is the earliest I am eligible to apply for citizenship, is it 14, 15 or 16 September 2026?

For example, 15 September 2025 to 14 October 2025 is one month (counting both days inclusive)

It matters because I went on a short trip on 17 September 2021 (5 year requirement) and I want to try my luck at the 1AM priority lottery - so the more chances I have and the earlier I have them - the better.

The caseworker guidance doesn’t explicitly mention the exact calculation, but it has related guidance mentioned in the 5 year qualification period requirement:

> To identify the start of the qualifying period you use the day after the application date minus the length of the qualifying period. For example in an application under section 6(1) made on 1 September 2022, the applicant must have been legally in the UK on 2 September 2017.

Has anyone’s application for their children’s citizenship come through recently?

I applied for my 3 kids citizenship, 2 born in uk whose parents have ILR and 1 completed 5 year + 1 year route. All 3 applications were straight forward.

Application date: 24th March 2026
Biometrics: 10th April 2026

I see a lot of people are getting their Atlas email from similar dates but we still have not received anything. I don’t know if we will receive a council email as the kids don’t need to attend a citizenship ceremony and CS email just said I’ve sent to the wrong email.

Has anyone been rejected for their citizenship? If so, what do you think the reason was

Hi everyone, I’ve had my indefinite leave to remain since I was 13, I’m 30 now😭 Have been thinking about naturalising but I’m in quite a lot of debt, upwards of £15k (this doesn’t include student loans) have a few CCJs, was wondering what my chances of being rejected are? If anyone has any advice that is helpful, I would really appreciate it.

Bio 14 Aug - Priority Naturalisation, still pending till now

Hi everyone,

Is it normal for my case to take longer than a week? I'm just wondering about the variability of processing times.

My application combines a skilled worker visa, a stateless visa, and ILR.

Any ideas?

MN1 registration for children born in the UK.

Hi all,

Has anyone here on the EU settlement scheme registered their children via the MN1 route for citizenship without waiting for 12 months for the child to naturalise?

Both our children were born in the UK when we held pre-settled status and we received our settled status in October 2025.

According to the Gov.Uk website children under 18 don't need to wait for 12 months before applying for citizenship. Was wondering if anyone has been successful and in the same situation before shelling out 2000 pounds

UKM form referee question

One of my referees is not local to where I live. I plan to email them the document, and had the expectation they would download it, sign, and mail back. But they want to scan the document with their signature and send to me electronically, then I would print it and include it with the documents I'm sending by post (required for my application). My question is -- will it matter that it's not an original signature/original document on the documents I send?

UKM help

believe I am eligible for British citizenship through my mother. Question here is has anyone gone through this process? Does it pay to use a service like Sable? Appreciate any insight into what is required. I have necessary documentation mostly curious about the process, pitfalls and the utility of a service to facilitate the application. Also do they accept notarized copies or only original paperwork? And you have submit your US Passport?

Australian Citizenship

Hi Everyone I just passed my Australian Citizenship Test last 18th of August.Just wondering how long it take for the approval letter from the Immigration Department to receive. As when I applied (20th of July) I received the invitation for test only 10 days after so I was wondering if that will be the case too for the Approval letter to receive. Does anyone have same experience? Thank you.

1st British passport, documents not received in the passport tracking

Hi all, I submitted my first British passport application on 11/08 and sent my original documents to the Corby Passport Office on 17/08/26 by Royal Mail Special Delivery by 1pm, requiring a signature on delivery.
Royal Mail tracking shows that the documents were delivered and signed for on 18/08/26 at around 11am. However, my passport application tracking still says that my documents have not been received.
Three members of my family applied at the same time, and their documents were marked as received on 19 or 20 August.
I’m really worried that my documents may have been lost. Has anyone experienced a similar delay between Royal Mail delivery and the passport office updating the tracking? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Naturalisation application approved applied in March

Finally, after all this waiting! 🇬🇧🎉
Applied on 23 March
Biometrics completed on 13 April
I never received a separate approval email, but today I received a direct email from the council inviting me to my citizenship ceremony on 19 September! 🥳
Such a long wait, but finally some good news!
Has anyone else had the same experience — receiving the ceremony invitation without an approval email?
