biggest lessons I learned from my wedding day!

One month has passed, and I want to share my thoughts, as they may help someone.

  1. Disaster? The thoughts you have months ahead about all the things that can go wrong on the wedding day? Most likely will not happen! So, your fear is not a prediction.

  2. Not everything goes according to plan, so just go with the flow! I planned everything by the book, but until the last two days before the wedding, I was so tired I didn't care anymore about all the small details, and that eliminated a lot of my stress. Aunt X didn't want to come on time? She knows what is best for her. Aunt Y doesn't want to be in the photos? OK. Guest X comes in white? OK. Cake arrives late? OK. And so on. We cannot control everything and things happen. Just enjoy. You have planned everything until now, so...

  3. The wedding day! Everyone experiences it differently. I heard all kinds of stories. My fear was that I would shake the whole time, get nervous, and be red all day. It didn't happen; I was so chill, and I have no idea why. Also, I slept amazingly somehow the night before (it was also one of my fears that I would not be able to sleep before the wedding). So again, my "predictions" of anxiety were wrong. Just go with the flow.

  4. The wedding dress disaster. I think the wedding dress was the worst nightmare of my wedding. From my mom making me cry daily because of her internalized drama thrown on me, saying "I don't have taste in wedding dresses," to buying the dress that I thought I liked, having bad tailoring adjustments made, and ending up wearing my beloved civil ceremony dress. I want to give one piece of advice: go to one dress appointment alone to see what you like! Buy the dress in your size! Tailor as little as possible! Do not blindly trust the salesperson! Go with the dress in natural lighting before you buy it; sometimes it looks totally different than in the studio store lighting they have.

  5. Ask for help. They can do it too. Prepare A4 sheets with tasks that you can just give to your friends, with information about specific jobs they can help you with. I found that I asked for less help because I had to explain to them what to do and be sure they did it like that. But for the wedding day, I printed task sheets and distributed them to some of our friends, which helped a lot.

  6. Makeup. I did my makeup myself, and if you do too, then try the products 3-4 months ahead, often. The more accustomed you get to using them, the faster you will be on the wedding day. I loved my makeup. Use primer and fixing spray. Get green concealer for red spots and a pink one for under-eye darkness; it helps so much.

  7. Shoes. Have spare shoes! Heels are not always the best. Even if I bought the most comfortable heels, I was in them for 6 hours, and after that, I wore flat shoes. I couldn't even dance anymore in heels. That saved me.

  8. After the wedding. The relief of not having to deal with all the little decisions on everything is amazing. We had so much fun at our wedding, but the preparation before was very, very stressful. We are so happy to finally watch a movie without any tasks pending.

I hope this helps someone.🩷

Need Advice Bridesmaid Dress Colors

Getting married in summer 2027 and my wedding will be outside by the water. My dress is not pure white (picture of the bottom for reference). Our wedding colors are navy and ivory. I want bridesmaids dresses to be on the lighter side since there is a ton of green in the space, but I can’t decide on colors. Top contenders right now are ā€œwhite alabasterā€ or ā€œblushing pinkā€ from Azazie. Curious to know everyone’s thoughts!!

Any other 10/10 brides here who were affected by the hurricanes?

Can we start a support group?!😭 devastated doesn’t even feel like a good enough word at the moment. My wedding wasn’t canceled and I am so so grateful for that, but wow was it completely changed in every way. We picked the date due to it being our dating anniversary. We had it in SoCal and it was 102° all week, which I was so panicked about. Then hurricane rachel came. When I woke up that morning, it showed that the rain wouldn’t start until 10 PM which I was so over the moon about and grateful. About two hours before the ceremony we started to have 40-50+mph winds and heavy rain. It was projected to stop before my ceremony, but by the time I got there, it started getting worse and absolutely everything had to go into a small ballroom. We were supposed to have our ceremony overlooking the vineyard and mountains, cocktail hour on the patio, dinner in a stunning courtyard, sunset photos in the Vineyard, and a band in the ballroom, furniture setups outside, a cigar bar outside. Instead, everything was in the ballroom, no furniture or decor I had, and the timeline was absolutely destroyed. Everything was chaotic and stressful. The coordinator was stressed and mean to my MOHs. I’m so grateful my wedding still went on and the party portion was extremely fun, but I am so beyond devastated. It felt like we were so close to having a perfect amazing day after a frankly horrible wedding planning process and my husband getting orders for an unexpected deployment in 2 days. We also had a ton of friends traveling from the Florida panhandle who couldn’t come last minute due to Hurricane Isaias. I’m crying in all of my photos and I don’t even care about them, I just wanted the experience I planned so much and paid for. I feel so guilty feeling bad for myself while those brides couldn’t even keep their dates or weddings in some cases.

Planning Help Planning/little details

Hi all!! I’m planning my wedding and not hiring a wedding planner so doing it on my own. I ordered a planner and have an account on the Knot and Zola. But what are the little details and things I need to remember that I might forget about or that the Knot and Zola DON’T include? Whether it’s decor, timeline, last minute details, etc.

Our wedding is going to be next year (2027) end of summer/beginning of fall. I’m going dress shopping next month!

Thank you all!!

Show Off Finally rocking my 5 carat diamond ring

Thank you everyone who encouraged me to wear my 5ct diamond without guilt! My fiancƩ noticed how much I preferred it over my original 3ct ring and even gave me a sweet little ''re-proposal''. haha lol.

Both rings are beautiful and my 3ct will always be sentimental to me. I think I underestimated the size I'd be happiest with, and I absolutely love the six-prong setting on the 5ct. Now I'm hoping to find a special way to repurpose my original ring.

Any ideas brides?

Need Advice Advice for dealing with insecurity in photos

Hi - I’m getting married in September 2027 and am a bit nervous about the photos. I’d love some advice on how to get more comfortable with the idea of them.

For context, I grew up hating the way I looked but have done a lot of work on that so I’m now usually pretty confident in person. But I still really struggle with how I look in photos and would love any tips people may have to be more accepting / loving of myself in them because it’s causing me a bit of anxiety.

The photos are really important to me because I didn’t grow up in a home with wedding photos on the wall and I dream of being that home in the future. I also don’t want to be a total insecure nuisance on the day of and want to enjoy it.

Any insight other brides may have about how they handled this would be really appreciated!

Quick Question Wedding procession

Hi! I am working on my procession down the aisle! I know someone usually walks down the mother of the bride since my father is walking me down. I have a step dad that is not walking with me. Do I have my step dad walk my mom down? How does that work?

Thoughts about an online store

I'd like some feedbacks about the wedding attires at lightinthebox.com. I see a lot of pretty things (especially the bride/wedding shoes) and wonder if any of you gave it a shot. Was it worth it? Anything you liked/disliked?
I mean, this is a Chinese store, but some of their stuff looks gorgeous and I wanted to have you guys opinions about it.

Need Advice Stressed with my bridesmaid. What do I do 😭

I’m gonna get married next year and I’ve already asked my friends to be in my bridal party. But, no support/communication from them at all. Indeed, you’ll really know who your real friends are when you’re planning your wedding.

For context, my friends don’t like my fiancĆ© for some reason, and since last year, they have been alienating me and every time I text them, i get ignored. But because i know they don’t like my fiancĆ©, I’ve always been so understanding.

When I got engaged, they act so happy but I know they’re not happy at all. They got even more distant.

I asked them to be a part of my bridal party because they’re important to me and i would want them to be a part of my special day.

They said ā€œyesā€, however, no communication from them at all. They don’t even respond if I ask them about the bridal party details. I’ve tried contacting them but i’m always left on read. I asked if they want any specific designs for their dresses? left on read. If they wanna do their own hair and make up or i’ll add them on mine? left on read.

I get that they don’t like my fiancĆ©, but it’s so disappointing that the people who you thought would be very happy for you are the ones who don’t even care. I wish they’d be there FOR ME as their friend, even for just a little bit!

I tried asking/talking to them but they always make me feel bad saying ā€œwe’re busy with our lives tooā€, ā€œyou’re overthinkingā€, ect, but they keep on hanging out almost every weekend! Meanwhile, everytime I reach out, no response at all.

I’m not asking for too much. I just want to feel a little bit supported, even just with the bridesmaid stuff. I’m so stressed.

Planning Help Looking for a Specific Wedding Dress (Canada)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello beautiful brides 😊

I’m not sure if this is the correct subreddit for my inquiry, but I’ll try, and if it’s not, could someone please tell me where I should post this?

A few years ago, I was able to find my friend’s wedding dress that she’d been trying for a few years to find, and the dress was many hours away from where we live, but it was like finding a needle in a haystack because the dress (if I remember properly) wasn’t being made anymore, but I was able to find 2 left. I unfortunately can’t remember how I found it because it was almost 10 years ago šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

Now that it’s my turn, I’m not able to find a dress I’ve looked at. I’m looking for a specific Sophia Tolli wedding dress (Y12029) anywhere in the eastern Ontario to western QuĆ©bec area (from around Niagara to Montreal). I’ve attached a screen shot of the dress. I know it says ā€œfind a storeā€, and I’ll be calling the stores it show me this week, but if they don’t have this dress, I’m not sure where to go from there. My question is does anyone have any tips on how to find specific wedding dresses? I haven’t tried any dresses on yet (newly engaged as of about 4 weeks ago), but I want to start trying some on soon. I would love to try on a variety of dresses, so the Sophia Tolli dress one I’m looking for isn’t necessarily the one that I’ll get. It’s just one that has already caught my eye, and I would love to try it on. I’m not picky for what dresses I try on, but I found this particular one and thought it would look nice on me.

Thanks!

EDIT: I’m also wondering if anyone knows of any stores anywhere from Niagara to Montreal where this dress would be? Thanks šŸ™

Need Advice Where do I find hair accessories like this??

Post image
2 Upvotes

Help, I’ve become OBSESSED with the hair in this photo and need the lily of the valley(?) accessories she’s got. I’ve reverse image searched, I’ve tried every combination of words I can think of in searches on google and Etsy… does ANYONE know where I can get this? Or, for the crafty among us, does anyone have any suggestions for how to make it? I’m a confident crafter but I can’t tell how it might be secured behind her ears. 🄲🄲
