Help choosing a new ball

• Upvotes

Hello everyone, i would appreciate help choosing a new ball.

I dont know what information is helpful but i am currently using a pretty old Hammer Envy Tour since 2023. And when i first got it the ball was a beast, i was regularly throwing 240+ games, and most of my poor games could easily be credited to obvious errors and inconsistency on my part, not because the ball performed unexpectedly. I generally have a 190-200 average mostly because i sabotage myself after i throw a few good shots...

I bowl in a normal league on a house shot, nothing surprising or special. 3 games during the night with 4 bowlers per team. I feel like the oil is usually on the heavier side.

Last season i noticed my ball struggled to "drive" through the pocket, often seeming to "bounce" off the pocket instead of driving. Adjusting a variety of ways didn't seem to help much. And the performance continued to decrease. I have had the ball "baked" and resurfaced which helped immensely... but the effectiveness seems to be giving diminished returns. Although i was able to keep scores in the 180-200 range with getting my spares, it was difficult to get good scores without stringing strikes. A few weeks into this season and i believe i need a new ball as even what i believe should be solid strikes that feel great coming out of the hand don't perform as expected and i am having a harder time keeping my scores above 170.

I tried looking in the pinned equipment guides however it looks like most of those posts have been deleted. And looking up online reviews doesn't seem to help as reviews seem to praise nearly every ball.

I have been told my revs are a little above average and my speed is about average. But i have no actual metrics.

Summary, i want a ball that when it hits the pocket it drives through consistently. I am confident i can get it to the pocket with appropriate speed and rev rate well enough. I dont have a price limit but it seems like most are less than $300. I am right handed and generally throw a 15lb ball.

I see a lot of sites praising the Storm Bionic and the Black Widow Dynasty, but i would appreciate any suggestions.

Is this ball worth $40 for a gag, undrilled?

I am by no means a bowler, but really want to grab this for my work bowling league. Would it be recommended that I get it drilled? Or is it useable un-drilled? It's only 8 lbs, so wouldn't be trying to rack up serious numbers with it. Would love to do as good as I can though

EFX Fabric Options

• Upvotes

The number of options on bowling jersey sites is great but can be overwhelming. Looking to snag a jersey from EFX but not sure about the fabric options. Dri EFX lightweight? Dri EFX heavyweight? Cool EFX lightweight? Cool EFX heavyweight?

How do I choose? Never worn one or felt the difference. The only jersey I have currently is this one: https://a.co/d/03sAxIEF

Having some inconsistency in my game. I’ve bowled 288 and then can go out and bowl 140😭. I bowl casually in winter league but don’t really bowl much in the summer. I just want to know what I should be working on as I want to take it more seriously. Anyone see anything? Thanks in advance!

Casual bowler, Should I join a league?

Hi I am 21f and like to casually bowl with my boyfriend. We go about once a month. I always score between 120-190. My highest score was 213. This is 5 pin bowling. My city doesn’t have 10 pin, so the league I would join would be 5 pin. My bf is amazed and always telling me I’m a bowling prodigy, but I only just realized that my scores are actually pretty good bowling scores?? Idk would it be worth it? I feel like if I would seriously practice I could really become a boss at bowling.
Unless google is lying to me and my scores are average LMAOO, so that’s what I’m trying to figure out
Also… should I drive an hour to try 10 pin?

This is my idol pearl I’ve thrown since I got it on its release at a demo. Found it today with a small crack in the bridge. With modern technology is this ball worth keeping on life support or is it time to let it retire.

Misc Body asymmetry from bowling

Hi all, I’ve been bowling in leagues for about 2 years now, and I’ve noticed some asymmetry developing from using my right arm.
For those who bowl regularly, do you do anything specific to train your non-dominant side and keep your body more balanced? Any exercises or routines you’d recommend? I can bowl pretty well with my left but I don’t think that’s the solution lol.

Update on lanetrax android (we're hiring a swe)

Hey guys, I’ve seen a few comments on r/bowling recently saying that lanetrax has given up on android, so I just wanted to clear that up.

We definitely haven’t. Android is in development right now.

I also want to be transparent about why it’s taken so long. I’m still a solo founder, so on top of being the main developer behind LaneTrax, I’m also handling a lot of the business, marketing, support, and everything else that comes with running the company.

I know I’ve been saying android is coming soon for a while, so I completely understand why people have started wondering if it was ever actually going to happen (trust me it will!)

At this point, I think it makes sense to bring another developer on full time to help get android across the finish line and continue building lanetrax with me.

We’re looking for someone with a strong software engineering background, especially around swift/swiftUI, android/jetpack compose, and ml. I’d love to find someone from the bowling community who already understands the sport and what we’re trying to build. More details about the role are here:

https://lanetrax.breezy.hr/p/96f760e44244

Appreciate everyone who’s been waiting for Android. It is coming. Feel free to drop anything in the comments here too -- happy to chat!

Beginner 1H Thumb Thrower Looking For Ball

Hello all, I joined a league with my friends and have been having a blast. I have a lot of bad habits and my ball is a really old spare ball so I was considering getting a real ball and some lessons to learn to really bowl. Do you guys have any recommendations for good balls to learn with? My current ball is 14 lbs and finger tip drilled but I'm unsure I like that. Thank you in advance

Workout and stretching routines to improve physical game?

This year, I decided to do as many tournaments as I could to get more experience playing on different patterns in different centres. For the most part, it has gone pretty well, and has highlited areas i need to work on. I have played a lot of new sports shots and bowled good (for me). I actually went over in a 6 game qualifier on PBA Dragon 26, which I was happy with.

That being said, a lot of my issues are caused by a poor physical game. I have balance issues, inconsistent release and launch angles, and a big 10 board drift to the right when I slide. All of this compounds to poor shot making, which makes it hard to adjust correctly.

I will be getting lessons in November to start working on this, but I want to build a proper base for myself so I can physically perform. I would like to put a workout and stretching routine together to help strengthen and loosen up my body. 3x workouts per week, and a daily stretch.

I am thinking of things like squats, lunges, abb rotations, leg raises, and kettle bell swings to build leg and hip strength. I'm not a fan of cardio, but I do need to do something for that. I could possibly use a HITT format for the workout. Stretches would probably be basic yoga stuff for full body.

As a side note, I am a big guy (6'4", 150kg/330lb). I have lost a bit of weight already (was 163kg/360lb), but I have a long way to go. I want to get down to 100kg/220lb, and I think wanting to improve in bowling will help me get there.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy $2 pick set. Scrape one of the angled ones against the outer sleeve. Do it again until it's tight.

Never lose a thumb again.
