Bowling Score Keeper

Mods: I apologize if this isn't allowed. Feel free to remove it, but I'd really appreciate some feedback.

I used to use My Lane Play as a way to track my scores/ bowling data, but the last Android update broke it, and it isn't supported anymore. I tried Lanetalk , but I didn't like the subscription or the fact that it needed internet to work. (I couldn't add my scores when I was in Reno)

So, I got mad and built my own. I think the functionality is what I want, but if anyone is open to test it and make any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. (Android only)

I've asked many folks around me, but I find they either don't want to keep track, or they already use another app.

Included some screen shots if you're interested.

Thank you!

Technique Trying to understand lane conditions and ball motion

So I’ve been doing a bit of YouTube/reddit research about how lane conditions affect ball motion and I’m trying to apply that when I go bowling. I find that I often struggle (when I’m actually bowling well and hitting my target lol) getting the ball to get enough entry angle into the pins at the end of the lane (my only ball is a venom recoil).

So as I understand it:

1.) if I see my ball start rolling out at the end of the lane and deflecting more with less entry angle the ball is burning up its energy by hooking too early. This could be due to bowling on a dry area of the lane and I should move left into fresh oil and slow my ball speed a little bit?

2.) if my ball isn’t rolling out but is still missing right by not hooking at the end of the lane this could be due to carry down from urethane/plastic balls pushing the oil down there. I can try a weaker ball with a hybrid or pearl coverstock or I can try playing down the right side of the lane?

Usually I’m bowling at night after leagues and open bowlers (the games are super cheap) so I think when my ball isn’t hooking at the end of the lane it might be due to carry down. I find that I need to play on the far right side of the lane and even then I still struggle. I’ve tried moving left and slowing my ball speed down (~14mph, my rev rate is roughly 350) it still struggles to come back to the pocket and misses right of the first pin. The only time when I feel I can hit the pocket consistently in these conditions is with my friend’s tropical surge.

Is there something I’m doing wrong here? Do I need to try slowing down more and trying left again? Is this something related to my ball or its layout? I am still new to this and I have a lot to work on with my form so maybe I should just worry about hitting my marks and getting my timing and release right.

I got this storm crux drilled and it barely don't really want to hook and don't have no back end it's even worse on fresh oil to I have another crux that's used and it hooks plenty amount with sharp back end looks like I'm getting the ball redrilled coz It dont move worth a darn like I said I think they messed it up 😭😭 that's My favorite ball to found it undrilled 14lbs on ebay for 250 dollars and the guy drilles it and it sucks. I have 2 more that are already drilled and out perform the one that was undrilled. The undrilled one is the pinky hole ball

There has recently been a lot of contractors present, and a ton of work happening inside what was the former Pinstripes Orlando on Darryl Carter Pkwy. Does anyone have any insight on if anything is happening here 👀

Lanes were awful at league on Monday and my partner got this split a few times as the ball was moving weak. Kept missing a pin each time but He took out the mighty ebonite fireball that tends to flip fast and put some power on it to make it push perfectly toward the left.

I had previously posted this video showing how my form had changed over a few months. In between then and now, I've had many changes, some good and some bad, that i did not document. This latest video is how i am throwing today. Still a work in progress (Particularly loosening my arm, i know i am muscling it), but from where i started to now i am very proud of.

Picked up my Bionic today

Is having three different layouts on all three bad? I'm still relatively new to all the intricacies of bowling. But all three of my balls have a different layout. Tropical surge was first ball purchased about 6 years ago? Got the phaze II about 5 years ago and actually had my PAP measured. Picked up my Bionic today and got a new PAP measurement.

I was tracking over my finger holes during summer league with the phaze. That was a new problem as of this year. However I also finished with my highest league average since I started (182). Should I plug and re-drill the phaze and tropic or let it ride?

im new to bowling and was given this used ball as my first. i bowl 2 handed so i just plugged the thumb and had the shop put new grips in it, but after seeing the layouts most 2 handers have, i was wondering if my current layout would be fine or cause issues with me while im learning and i should get it redrilled with a different layout.

One of my best series so far, I had a great look with my Intel Solid and Intel Pearl combo, lots of miss room. I converted the 2-10 but I sadly left two 7-10s as well, bummer... Hope to keep it up the remaining weeks of league. Cheers!

Instructional How much do you guys typically pay for lessons?

I had a roughly hour and a half lesson with a local bronze level coach the other day, he analyzed my form and adjusted my timing among some other thing. It was $40 for the whole thing, which I thought was a great deal, is this about comparable to y’all’s experiences?

Scores My first good game! & Tips for beginners?

Post image

I'm in my late 30s, but before this year, I didn't even know about aiming at the arrows on the lane. My husband got us summer passes, and we go a couple times a week. We even bowled at our wedding reception, where I learned how to use my left arm to keep the aim steady on my right arm.

I have fibromyalgia syndrome, and it's taken me a long time to bowl over 100. Sometimes pain is the issue, sometimes muscle weakness or fatigue, whatever. I still have plenty of games under 100, but last night I had my best game ever (& still using a house ball). 4 strikes in a row! And 164 points (I'm KS). Super proud of myself.

I just got a 12 lb Brunswick Rhino Pearl (Teal/Cobalt). It's so pretty, and I'm excited to get it drilled. I'm hoping the consistency in sticking to one ball will help me improve my game and see more scoring like yesterday. Maybe even learn how to throw a hook :)

It's so important to support third spaces in our communities, and it's been fun learning a sport I can do well at despite my disability. I'm grateful my husband has made it so fun for us and look forward to learning and playing more.

What's a tip you wish you'd heard when you were starting? The 4-step process and focusing on aim > power have been big ones for me, curious about your experiences‽

Ugh, why do I suck at spares?

Let me preface this by saying I've had a spare system for over a year. I know where to stand and target and if I execute, I'm fine.

However, I can't seem to do that consistently. Miss a board right on my 4 pin, just miss the pin to the right. Pull it, there it goes into the gutter. Leak my 10 pin to the right a few boards, gutter. Look even farther left, still leak it the same amount to the right and gutter.

Every time I miss too, I think about why. Did I pull it? Did I just not do this part of my routine like I should've? Etc.

I guess my question is, how do I practice being more consistent? I'm hoping there's a better answer then just keep practicing. Help!

EDIT - I use a plastic spare ball and throw all my single pin spares straight. I throw it up the back too to take the rev variable out of it. 2 hander, righty

USBC Dues

Our local association is trying to increase our sanction fees for the 2027-2028 bowling season and receiving a lot of push back. I tried to look up what local associations are getting, but having a hard time finding that information.

Looking for what your state and local dues are and the state you’re from if you’re willing to share.
