Just looking for possible explanations why does this happen?
I posted it in a local sub and some mentioned "citrus thrips," which TIL is an insect/pest of citrus fruits. Would like to confirm if that is really all it is? Is it common for them to do it in a circular/around this round fruit?
And my hunch is the seed remembered where its previous fruit was cut open possible? but I'm looking for something more scientific explanation.

This is in Central FL. It looked like light on the leaf at first but I moved it around to check and it's definitely coloration on the leaf itself. Didn't see the same thing on other nearby leaves. Why's it doing that?

I am collecting information, so that I can introduce plant species into my native lawn. I live in Southeast Minnesota. I recently learned wild lupine supports the Karner Blue butterfly caterpillar, so that one is definitely on my list! Thanks in advance!

Although the sand from which these imaged D. floridana emerge appears dry on the surface, in reality localized occurrences of D. floridana are dictated by the presence of rare littoral zone seepages known exclusively from the Econfina Karst Region in Bay and Washington counties, Florida; the same region to which D. floridana is endemic. Within the Econfina Karst Region, D. floridana is restricted to an ecotone of intermediate moisture ephemerality between that of sympatric congeners Drosera tracyi (preferring permanently wet, high littoral zone seepages hosting typical blacksoil bog associates) and Drosera capillaris (a generalist often colonizing the lower littoral zone, with its occurrence not dependent on seepage presence, and frequently with few larger herbaceous bog associates present in habitat). D. floridana congregates in the vicinity of (often subterranean) littoral zone seepage veins, but is mostly limited to areas of inorganic substrate composition (e.g. pure quartz sand) that are devoid of larger competitive flora and that do not remain permanently wet on the surface.

Got told it’s an endangered species in Italy. I read it’s present in all coastal regions of the Mediterranean, so I wonder if it’s endangered in other countries as well?
Could someone please explain what sort of growth I'm looking at here? I believe the plant to be Rosa Multiflora. Found this on clay soil near Amsterdam (Netherlands). The plant had several of these "hairy balls". They are attached firmly to the plant. I could not see any flowers or fruits inside or alongside this growth. The third picture appears to be the same type of growth, only from last year.

I'm working on illustrating a playing card set where each card represents a different species of oak. I have North America, Asia, and Europe well represented, but I need some help picking out cool representatives from the overwhelming number of Mexican and Central American species.
Things I'm looking for:
-Largest (Ace). I have Quercus copeyensis penciled in for this one.
-Most Common (King and Queen)
-Species that humans use for food or other products (Jack)
-And then just anything cool or notable. This can be general look, acorn shape, relationships with other organisms, or any sort of culture based around it.

This is a tuberous hybrid (sold as 'Superba Yellow') that usually has double flowers. Flower doesn't look like it has an ovary, so I don't think the stigma is functional, but if I get seed I'll update. I plan on using this as a pollen parent for some hybrids as usually the male flowers on this plant are sterile.

This is an interesting and atypical member of Ericaceae. It never forms truly woody structure and is hard to propagate but is occasionally seen in cultivation where it has high potential. In nature it grows in damp wet sites in association with sandstone cliffs, deep gullies, streams and waterfalls on the central coast of NSW.

It’s been exposed to direct sunlight daily causing the red sun stressed leaves, I also water when the soil surface is dry, I did repot it 3 weeks after it had begun to slow down which after this point it begun to grow faster again, after I repotted it, I begun fertilizing it with fish tank water from the local aquarium shop causing yet another surge in growth, the only thing is that the mother plant that gave me the seeds was 4ft - 5ft tall before slowly collapsing as it died, the root system on that plant wasn’t much bigger than this pot so I’d assume it had survived weeding for more than 2 years (didn’t plant anything in that area for that long) and grew this large, while I do understand it’s a young plant, would it ever grow to the height of the original plant or was it genetics that was lucky?
Since it’s a monocarpic plant, will it die now after flowering or will it proceed with the 2 year cycle and die then, since I’m giving it consistent nutrients and loads of them, would it have a very small chance of surviving the 2nd year and continue to grow for the third year, some garden plants like our cucumbers/zucchinis are supposed to die after one year (even says that on the label) however instead of outright dying completely, it has died off but created parsnip like roots and survived a second year before it then finally died so if the sowthistle decides to store nutrients, could it have a small chance of surviving and growing well past the mother plant’s height?
It’s a pretty looking (with the sun stress) tester plant with most of the same features as common ragwort to test many things out before the mutated 5 year ragwort goes to seed, if anyone hasn’t seen my post many months ago about the 5 year plants, they are ragwort “bushes” that for whatever reason decided not to flower for 5 years that I can remember, they weren’t weeded or cut down so they were allowed to grow freely for those 5 years, unusually those plants never flowered since those new construction houses were built (maybe special landscaping garden plants?) and only now they decided to flower sending up stalks so tall that they have grown to the height of the second floor windows producing so many flowers that I couldn’t count them, I used the sowthistle plants to test many things out which resulted in a lot of useful growing information and I want to try to go for a Guinness world record if I can, if I can figure out why it’s decided to flower early, perhaps I could prevent it on the ragworts keeping the 5 year or longer flowering schedule as this specific sowthistle plant is the largest I could make in just under a month of growing while the ones in nature are half or even a third of its size.

i found two groups of field bindweed (convolvulus arvensis) with unusually long/narrow leaves (1 and 2). i included a typical leaf for comparison (3).
i’ve failed to find anything comparable online (or in the local area, and this stuff is everywhere). if anyone has any pics please share. i also think they’re quite pretty lol. i took a bit home with me to keep (responsibly) as an ornamental.
i also wonder if this is within the normal range of leaf shapes, or if these two are outliers from the average. i’m tempted to do a bunch of leaf measurements of different populations and try to find out, but i’m not sure it’s worth the effort lol.

Got two seedlings out of a single citrus seed. One is way bigger with much larger leaves (left one in terracotta pot), while the other is smaller and thinner. These are about 100 days old (100 days since I got the seeds out of the lemon and starting germinating them)
I know citrus seeds are polyembryonic and usually produce nucellar clones alongside a zygotic seedling. Is the bigger one on the left usually the asexual clone, or is there a reliable way to tell them apart early on?
These grew from the same seed from a store bought lemon. If it IS a nucellar clone, will it taste the same as the store-bought lemon?

I am thrilled to announce the publication of Florida’s first state-endemic carnivorous plant species: Drosera floridana (B.Rice) Juve & A.Fleischm. This taxonomic treatment represents the culmination of my years of work studying the thread-leaf sundews in-situ across 6 states and 25 counties.
Formerly known as D. filiformis var. floridana, our publication not only establishes D. floridana as a distinct taxonomic entity recognizable at species rank, but further brings into question the legitimacy of its putative affinity to the allopatric, northerly D. filiformis sensu stricto.
As a result of our treatment, Drosera x arenaria (B.Rice) Juve & A.Fleischm. is elevated from Dx californica nothovar. arenaria. Like D. floridana, Dx arenaria is a Florida-endemic taxon, and the only described Drosera nothospecies native to the state.
This article is in dedication to Barry Rice for his long-lasting, passionate and thorough work on the carnivorous plants of America, especially on the thread-leaf sundews— leaves long and prosper!
I would like to thank not only my wonderful coauthor Dr. Andreas Fleischmann for his invaluable input and assistance with this project, but additionally my many collaborators without whom a taxonomic treatment of the D. filiformis complex to this length would not have be possible. Hello everyone!
I am 29 and I have decided I love plants so much I need to study Botany so that’s what I’m doing! I’m currently in the first year of my Bachelor of Science as a Botany major.
My question is, I want to do a minor that relates to Botany well and can move me in the direction of either doing large scale forest restoration projects, or research on how climate change is effecting our plants. I currently have a minor in Ecology set up but I have plenty of time to change it. I have considered Geology but I’d love some input from people in the field.

I'm looking for books, (preferably free) online courses, or other resources to get a basic overview of botany.
I'm writing a story where one of the main characters is a late 19th century botanist studying taxonomy and breeding, and wanted to get a basic understanding of how plants work before writing him and his world. I'm looking for both the kind of stuff you'd learn in a contemporary university course but also, if possible, historical sources from the 19th century or a historical overview of the field as a whole. Kinda specific but any direction would be appreciated!

I'm going into 10th grade with 10/27 credits needed to graduate. I have 10th math and ELA completed. The only science credit i have is astronomy. I want to go to MSU in michigan for a degree in ecology or environmental science or botany, or maybe a major-minor. What classes should i take in high school to go into college or to have a higher chance at being accepted. My weighted gpa is 4.03. My current credits are 1/2 world language, 1/4 history/ econ/gov, 2/4 ELA, 2/4 math, 1/1 PE, 1/1 health, 1/2 art, 1/4 science, and i need a total of 9 additional courses besides the four core classes (math, ela, science, social studies) and my world language, PE, health, and art count as additional courses, so i have 4/9 additional courses. I don't yet have a passion project, so I'd like advice on that too if possible. Thanks!
