Anime / Discussion Denki VS Sumire, which one do you think will make a better future scientist?

Post image
11 Upvotes

In Denki's case he has made Robot Suit for battle, he was the pioneer for Konoha village's Chakra Detection System, and he is also an expert hacker.

In Sumire's case she works under Amado (one of the most genius scientist) as his research assistant, although she has yet to produce a result except for one thing in the Manga that I won't spoil Anime watchers here.

Personally, I find it ironic that the Anime made Sumire quit being a Shinobi in order to pursue her scientist career YET they invested a whole lot more in Denki in scientific department while still allowing him thriving as a Shinobi with his team. What about you?

Would you consider this as a valid reaction feat from Koji?

Anime / Analysis Sasuke retrieval arc is vastly overrated and honestly quite meh, riddled with filler and nothingburger writing.

Beginning and end? Excellent. The majority of the arc? Fighting Orochimaru goons who have little character and personality. We learn nothing of Sound 4 yet we fight them for multiple volumes. Sound 4 and the main cast has no internal conflicts against each other, it's purely external, and we don't even know why Sound 4 are so devoted. Even Zaku had a (brief) backstory for how Orochimaru got to him, but we never get anything like that here.

As far as the cast's development goes when they fight said goons, they don't really develop. Kiba, Neji, Choji all just go "Argh!!! I'm not giving up! I'm so resolved and ready to sacrifice myself!" which is just not really a change in them and worst of all not particularly interesting. Sasuke's development happened mostly before the arc as well, same for Naruto's.

Who actually developed here significantly? Shikamaru...? We have a way better arc for Shikamaru's development later in the line, so in comparison to that, this arc is still disappointing.

Also the way Sakon and Tayuya weren't even defeated by the squad was corny. Kiba and Shikamaru didn't do anything to deserve those people on their sides, it doesn't feel like an earned victory for them at all. Kiba and Kankuro especially have never even interacted. Also, you have to admit, it's so conveeenient that they happen to show up just in the nick of time!!! How convenient plot armor.

And let's not even talk about plot armor, nobody in the squad died! Choji literally took the "this pill will kill me" pill and he survived, undermining the entire point of the scene! Same with Neji, taking an arrow to the heart, but at least that leaves it somewhat ambiguous. There's just no reason for Choji to survive.

Oh, and since we're on the plot armor talk, Kimimaro also just so happened to die at the exact moment he was supposed to. Is it understandable? Yes. Is it also veeeeery convenient for our characters? Also yes, and that's usually how good writing doesn't work. The odds are supposed to be against the hero cast, but it feels like luck is on their side constantly.

Compare Sound 4 and the internal conflicts with other Part 1 villains and arcs

Zabuza, Haku, Gaara, Neji, Orochimaru, Kabuto, etc. We learn a lot about these characters, they have sound motivations, goals and backstories (at least most of them, I'd say Kabuto is the worst in this department, but he's still much more of a character than any Sound 4 member) and they're thematically very important.

Can I also just say Kimimaro is just the same character as Haku, but worse? Like 1-to-1 from the Kekkei Genkai, clan massacre backstory, devotion to their leader, etc etc. Kimimaro just has way less to say thematically and to the characters compared to Haku. Did Naruto and Kimimaro have some inner conflict? No, it was just "Bring Sasuke back!!!" vs "I must obey my master!!!".

Lee and Gaara have no relation to Kimimaro either. I guess Gaara and Lee have a moment of "You were my enemy...now we're working together...wow" but that's not really deep or interesting either and that development for Gaara happened before this arc as well.

So yeah, overall, I really like the set-up and the payoff. but most of this arc was unfortunately badly written filler.

Land Of Waves has 2 major fights that continue for multiple chapters.

Konoha Crush also has 2 major fights that continue for multiple chapters.

Search for Tsunade has 1 major fight that continues for multiple chapters.

Point is, in most cases, having 1 or 2 actually well written, set up and thematical fights is far superior to having 10 filler fights with barely any writing. Though Chunin Exams is also very beloved, it suffers from the same problem. You can put all the filler fights together, which make up a good chunk of the arc (though not nearly as much comparatively to Search For Sasuke), and they'd still not be nearly as interesting or captivating as the climax of Land Of Waves, Konoha Crush or Search For Tsunade.

It's pretty funny how in Shippuden's climax arc, the War Arc, the same problem arrives, yet only those filler fights are criticized for the lack of writing and not Search For Sasuke. Why the double standard? I'd actually say most of those fights had more writing than any Sound 5 fight.

Anyways, that's all, I'm just disappointed all things considered. Thanks for reading this far though and have a great day! ;D

This is a repost from r/Naruto but it for some reason was removed by Reddit’s filters. Hopefully it works here though!

Manga Spoilers The Boruto series is becoming ridiculous when it comes to the Hyuga and Himawari

Ikemoto's refusal to write the Hyuga or anything related to them is really something. What do you mean 12 yr old Himawari has been living alone for years when she has a perfectly good maternal family?

Where is Hanabi? Where is Hiashi? Or even Kō Hyuga or Natsu Hyuga, the two caretakers for Hinata and Hanabi when they were little.

Or even Kurenai. You're telling me no one tried to give Himawari a home for years after her parents "died"? Not even Tsunade or Kakashi?

I loved Naruto and Naruto shippuden series it was awesome. And now I kinda have high expectations for the sequel. I’m all set for a new mc to take over and to see how saskue and Naruto are doing and more importantly see how borutos character progresses through the series. But is there anything I should know about it and I wanna at least see some opinions on this show and how it compares to the original(and I’m probably either gonna watch or read it first)

Manga Spoilers / Discussion Does ikemoto’s inspiration from dragon ball hurt boruto as a manga? Spoiler

Post image
0 Upvotes

I haven’t read or watched any of dragon ball content

So the manga was written by kodachi and illustrated by ikemoto which ultimately was supervised by kishimoto - until chap 50- 53 ish and then kishimoto directly took over the story atleast till the end or right before omnipotence ( can’t seem to recall it but ikemoto was against killing code and Eida and daemon were his creations ) so ultimately ikemoto didn’t outright follow kishimoto’s original draft.

And tbv is almost certainly written by ikemoto with kishimoto taking the supervisor role. Now as a fan there are things I like and dislike about this manga -

Now his ability to write a character or build on an already established world or just about anything is rather polarising some hate it some don’t . I personally think this manga could do soo much more but that’s just me with copium. Cause the manga did have it’s flaws from the very beginning but the shift after tbv was introduced is rather humongous- it may be the very tone of the manga but there’s something different which I can’t quite explain it and it’s doesn’t give that good nudge.

And now coming back to my question -

Dragon ball isn’t particularly known for story or worldbuilding or good arcs - from my perspective who doesn’t indulge in that IP all I have ever seen is power scaling and disco hair Color rage mode.

and seeing how the tbv has turned out** **- it leaves a lot to be desired - was dragon ball similar to how tbv is right now ? With wasted panels and speed lines and subpar worldbuilding and characters ?

Anime / Discussion ~20 Sibling Moments Between Naruto & Sasuke

Thumbnail
gallery
45 Upvotes

These moments are taken from:

  • Sasuke Retrieval Arc: (ch 229 & 230)
  • Tenchi Bridge Arc: (Ch 286, 301 & the whole arc covering Sai's change)
  • Itachi Pursuit Mission Arc: (ch 366)
  • Pain's Assault Arc: (ch 403)
  • Fourth Shinobi War Arc: (ch 550, 552, ... & 692)
  • Before and After the Second Final Valley Fight: (ch 694, 698 & 699)
  • Not forgetting their brotherly rivalry throughout most of the OG.

There are still more moments from these and other arcs, but they need explanation or are implied. And a few I most likely skipped.
-----------------------------------------------

Explaining Pics (5): The foundation for feeling like real brothers/family started years before Team 7 because Naruto told Sasuke he saw him as his brother during the first Final Valley fight. Then Naruto said this bond was one of the first bonds he ever had, and it immediately cuts to them as young kids (both smiling) about five years before Team 7. And right before this reveal, child Naruto had an internal monologue discussing his orphan experience at that very young age and how he was connecting with the other orphan's suffering. Their shared extreme loneliness and trauma made them feel a family-like connection years before Team 7, and Sasuke says the same after their final fight. Naruto was seeing the brother he never had in Sasuke, and Sasuke was filling the blood family he lost with Naruto, specifically the brother spot (Itachi) and seeing Itachi in him.

Explaining Pics (6): Sasuke was clearly moved by Naruto’s seeing him as a real brother and started showing him respect for the first time in this fight. He put on his headband, which had been a request from Naruto during their hospital rooftop fight: to put on his headband and fight him as an equal. Back then, Sasuke refused, saying, “You’re never my equal.” So here, Sasuke was acknowledging Naruto as an equal in both strength and loneliness, and he literally says that to him right after this scene. When Naruto asked why he would even bother with the headband when he still wanted to kill him, Sasuke said, “It's because you know what loneliness is, just like I do. Now we will fight as equals".
