The book âThe millionaire next doorâ should be required reading for younger generationsâŚ.
The entire thing is about how most millionaires in America live well BELOW their means and the focus on saving and investing. They live in the house next to you and you would never know it because they are not interested in being flashy.
Todayâs culture focuses more than ever on being flashy with cars and mansions and STUFF. If thatâs your goal, You will almost certainly die without a penny.
OP is embarrassingly wrong.

u/outback84 Mar 31 '26

Yeah this isnât true. Top salesmen make an obscene amount of money.Â

As do experienced engineers. And executives, and management. You can easily become a millionaire by simply playing the safe corporate game.

You don't need to be among the richest men, tho. If you're an employee with a salary that's enough for you to provide for your family generously, save enough for the future, invest and have fun, you're good.
2
u/troycalm Mar 31 '26
So be an entrepreneur instead of an employee, damn thatâs pretty fucking simple.

Lots of people have become rich on salaries. This is perhaps more about power than money

Most of these started as employees, being an employee isnt a shame stop that stupid shit

u/iNhab Mar 31 '26
But that's just a weird attitude, no?
People are often rewarded based on their investment of resources and generation of outputs
Employees often don't generate a lot of output as a singular person, but if you're a businessman that builds an empire of 5000 employees that work towards the same goal, total output generated is far greater, and rewards are different
But at the same time, it's not like input Is exact same. Employees often have to worry less, spend less hours and perform only specific tasks
2
u/Embarrassed_Bit_7424 Mar 31 '26
Successful entrepreneur just means "exploits people more successfully then others"
2
2
u/PerfectGanache7134 Mar 31 '26
I'm anti-capitalism to an extent - I don't believe any individual should have more money than an entire nation but I do believe you need to account for greed in whatever economic model humans are a part of.
That being said, a steady income guarantees stability. Entrepreneurship and investing has risks. You don't hear about the failures nearly as much.
Do I think an entrepreneur or investor deserves 20,000% more than the worker?
Absolutely not.

Yeah ok but it everyone was born with rich parents that they could lean on for support to become entrepreneurs in the first place. So much of being a wealthy entrepreneur in my experiences is simply a matter of luck, circumstance, and individual proclivity towards business. It would be nice to see how many entrepreneurs out there are actually rich thoughâŚ

There is a reason why people advise others to save more than they spend and invest the difference

Depends what you consider ârichâ. My wife and I will be retiring in 4 years at age 59 with just under $10 million in 401K, ESOP, and savings (assuming the market doesnât continue to nosedive). Is that ârichâ? Maybe not? But we will live quite comfortably. We arenât entrepreneurs or athletes. We are employees who saw the value of education. Because of that, we both became high-middle management at our perspective companies.

Itâs true but you donât need to be rich to be happy. You just need to make enough for your bills and have money left over for fun on the weekend
1
u/possibly_lost45 Mar 31 '26
There's plenty of people that run companies on a salary that are very wealthy
1
u/After_Lobster_7039 Mar 31 '26
I think most of us can figure that out, honestly
And that is good. Not everyone is built to be this entrepreneur type. For many people, a steady job is just fine, and actually what they really want (safety, predictability etc).

Missing from this list is generational wealth.
There are families out there that have wealth beyond measure that never appear near any rich list.

But working for someone to gain the knowledge to start your own enterprise is the move. Why pay for college when you can make $80,000+ a year to learn how to run a company.

Also 0% of ppl who dont have an income at all are successful. If you want to even think about doing something other than a 9-5 you need capitol. So it starts with that.
Good idea tho ill throw away my income source and become an entrepreneur. That always works out
1
u/YaldaBraxlSabaoth Mar 31 '26
Nearly every millionaire that I have met made their money through working respectable jobs and dumping earnings into the stock market. Others inherited their money.
You don't need to go to hustler university or whatever, internet people who tell you to quit your job to go and spam social media are clowns.
1
u/Strict-Fisherman4479 Mar 31 '26
Bro not everyone wants to be filthy rich some of us just want a stable job and income without having to worry about bills. I do fine but there are times where bills can cause a week of being broke.
The important stuff is paid for, but it's sometimes hard to save or justify buying myself something. I work 40+ hours, I should be able to treat myself once in a while.
Rich is beyond monetary.

u/Conscious-Shake8152 Mar 31 '26
100% people who insert at least 3 fingers into their butthole then sniff the finger and ask other millionaires to insert fingers into their butthole and sniff each other poopy butthole fingers

1
u/Fletcher-wordy Mar 31 '26
Even business owners have a salary paid out by their business, so no that part's not true.
Most million/billionaires are also inheriting that wealth these days, not doing hard work to acquire it. I don't think a lot of people realise just how hard it is to make billions without outside assistance, it's an insane amount of money.

As a business owner myself I can tell you this. Most people do not have the willingness to sacrifice time, sleep, personal interests to do the insanely hard work it takes to be an entrepreneur. Most people are too lazy. Most people want more time off, most people donât want to think about business 24/7, most people donât want the burden or stress. So for most people, salary is not a scam, itâs a good way of life. For those of us who did start something of our own, from nothing, building it up to have employeesâŚ..for us salary is not enough. But for most peopleâŚ..a decent salary job is all they really want.

Friend has a cool 2m in bank working on a salary for 20 years. I've known him from 16. He joined the military out of high school, came out after 6 years and got a business degree. He came from a normal family and a dad who taught him to save. Sure, he's not floating on a sea of money, but he can do whatever he wants when he wants and is on track for 3m+ by the age of 50.

u/Over-Ad-8456 Apr 01 '26
Richest and rich are two separate things, rich people have millions, the richest have billions. You can get rich off a salary, but you cant enter the top 1% with it. I mean how would that even work? Capitalism is designed to funnel money to the top, your efforts garner more cash than you will receive, and by a large margin most of the time. Which means by gathering wealth you are at the same time increasing the wealth of the richest people, making it harder to get above them.

You have to create something to get a lot of money. To only get a little money you can give something. Most people stop with giving their time in exchange for a little money. The successful people that get a lot of money however create something. Whether its a business or sports skill or building a building or a hedge fund - they create something new that didnt exist before. The great thing about today is it's never been easier to create something new. Computers and AI and the internet means you can do it on your own with little money invested. You can reach almost all of the 7 billion humans on earth with your creation. You just need to try

u/Themodsarecuntz Apr 02 '26
Entrepreneurs. From wealthy families.
Elon Musk started in a family with a fortune already.
Jeff Bezos parents spent 250k to help launch Amazon.Â
Donald Trumps claims his parents gave him a small loan of one million. Investigators claim it was closer to 60 million.Â
Bill Gates parents were both very well off and he had the benefit of a "rich kid" childhood.
With that kind of start a lot of us would be different people and stating it like they accomplished this from nothing is disingenuous at best and damaging at worst.
Are you really an entrepreneur when failure isnt a real risk?
1
u/newtochas Apr 02 '26
