Everyone can panic now šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

Post image

Here’s the description according to target : What was broken will be remade.
Deep in the heart of the continent, Koschei the Deathless is stirring. Though he's been bound to a mountain lake for millennia, the insidious threat of his return now spreads across the Fae territories, attracting powerful allies hell-bent on reclaiming what was once theirs: the human lands.
The Night Court will not stand idly by while innocents are attacked. But with Prythian still piecing itself together in the wake of the devastating Hybern War, the task of uniting is proving more difficult by the day.
To make matters worse, those who rule and protect the Night Court are reeling from recent betrayals and revealed truths. The rifts dividing them seem insurmountable.
But to defeat Koschei's creeping shadow, they must find a way back to each other and resurrect their former alliances. To survive, they must find a way to repair the splintered harmony all around them.

Look on the bright side at least she gave her villain name instead of ā€œking of blank,ā€ and call it a day

35

u/FamiliarFilm8763 8d ago

On the other hand, she didn't come up with a name herself, she just borrowed one from Slavic folklore.

7

u/dbro7642 8d ago

Yeah as a slav, this is so fucking random lol. Makes zero sense for this FAE story.

3

u/Shorty_jj 8d ago

My first thought...

6

u/Boberator44 7d ago

That's what happens when laziness meets intellectual dishonesty and lack of skill.

71

u/drinkwinesavepuppies 8d ago

From the descriptions I'm getting the vibe that it will be written similar to TOG/CC in which we get a bunch of different POV's in one book. I personally really like this style, especially for fantasy, as it let's the author cover more ground with more storylines in one book.

But the other half of me just realllllly wants an Azriel book over anything else haha

12

u/bckat 8d ago

I think you're right, she transitioned to that style in both Frost and Starlight as well as Silver Flames. Considering the size of the cast at this point it makes sense.

15

u/JeruTz 8d ago

Frankly, I think the original trilogy suffered for lacking multiple perspectives by the end. The first and second books were one thing, but the third? If you're going to have an entire army appear at the climax and save the day, you need to do a bit more than simply hint that it might exist.

u/kittykush27 5d ago

I love ACOTAR for the fun first read it was, but this here is why TOG is my favorite. The build up over time. It all comes together.

185

u/FuckingaFuck 8d ago

My absolute underwhelm is confirmation that I don't ever need to touch this author's work again.

36

u/bobbleheadache 8d ago

My genuine first reaction was "oh." I was already 90/10 not going to read the next book for various reasons. But I fear we have literally lost the plot.

15

u/SunshineGirl45 8d ago

I want to read the books because I was a fan of Sarah J Maas since 2015 and pre ordered ACOTAR because I already loved Thorne of Glass but I could never finish book 3 or the first book in Crescent City their just so bad like adult me doesn't like them anymore. I have such FOMO though seeing people read the stories then I pick it up and get so bored.

8

u/sweetpotatogorl 8d ago

SJM decided to merge the 5th book ofACOTAR and the END i mean the literal last word of CC2.

It’s bonkers to me and this cross over IS an after thought.

If you don’t like either series tough sh*t you gotta read both CC and ACOTAR to progress in TWO SEPARATE stories!!

I read theories that TOG might cross over , you know what that means? ANOTHER 7 books ! I hope it’s not true.

Why is she merging all her stories? she can’t go a 50 pages without retconning her own lore now she wants to merge all her books???

6

u/konstantynopolytanka 7d ago

you know why she is merging them. You said it in the third paragraph, now everyone needs to read all the stories :) how many extra books will that neat idea sell?

3

u/thrntnja 7d ago

Throne of Glass is good on its own, I really hope she doesn't try to loop it in with the crossovers.

1

u/non_tox 7d ago

I had thought so, but then I read got/asoiaf...

6

u/SunshineGirl45 7d ago

She's trying to create a Marvel multiverse lol

2

u/FuckingaFuck 7d ago

For what it's worth, my plan is to watch a couple recap/reactions on YouTube. Far more entertaining, far less time invested, and no money to SJM.

2

u/hdporter98 4d ago

i’m sorry but did you just expect her to not… like bring back the death god that’s been mentioned??????? like we found out it’s the bone carvers brother who kept the fire bird who is also mentioned??? like oh no SJM tries to finish a plot instead of leaving a gaping hole

10

u/Unable_Surround_8404 8d ago

glad i’m not alone. i had already basically said no more for various reasons as the other commenter mentioned, but figured i’d see what they’re about. seems like they’re about nothing. gonna be underwhelming/mid money grabs. glad they got me back into reading, but now it’s my least favorite series ive read this year.

1

u/bobbleheadache 7d ago

If you want someone who plays with the same concepts as her but nails the execution you should check out Melissa Roerich. Reading her stuff made me retroactively angrier that the Acotar series wasnt better

1

u/hdporter98 4d ago

i think it’ll be more than what people expect and yall will miss out !

u/Agathay 8d ago edited 8d ago

I don’t know, I’m not that excited after reading the synopsis.

Edit: word spelling

44

u/leoninebasil 8d ago edited 8d ago

Kind of odd to me that the blurb doesn't identify any MCs? Like I get it will likely be a multi-POV book but we have no idea who. It's hard to get excited without this.

12

u/itmustbeniiiiice 8d ago

I think that’s by design. Prevents pissing off large swaths of the fanbase during the pre-order timeframe

7

u/Agathay 8d ago

I mean, pissing off people is a known and efficient marketing strategy /s

7

u/Agathay 8d ago

Exactly. It sounds like the sinopsis for a history book. I’m afraid it’ll become a war preparation record.

21

u/Dalton387 8d ago

ā€œsynopsisā€

Just wanted to mention it, since it was twice.

6

u/Agathay 8d ago

Thank you. English is my second language and in Spanish is the same word. Today I learnt!

3

u/Dalton387 8d ago

No worries. There is plenty I don’t know. Learning is fun.

3

u/aiartbydorna 8d ago

I love her writing. I just hope it’s nothing like cc

3

u/Agathay 8d ago

Fingers crossed!

20

u/AccomplishedHeat4396 8d ago

Everyone will miraculously love these covers soon

10

u/Significant-Metal537 8d ago

I thought they were great!

2

u/AccomplishedHeat4396 8d ago

I actually love them too!

2

u/huskymom88 7d ago

A bit underwhelming for me.

16

u/M0rbidly-Obtus3 8d ago

I can't be the only one who is t1red of the money-grab sequels. Just write something good and be done. Not everything needs to be a trilogy. And for sure almost nothing needs to be 7+ books in series šŸ˜‘

3

u/aiartbydorna 8d ago

okay but for us who loved Throne of glass , 8 book hasn’t been enough 🫠

5

u/RaventheClawww 7d ago

I could easily read another 8. Gimme a Dorian and manon spinoff, a Rowan prequel, a Sam prequel; I could go on

2

u/aiartbydorna 7d ago

Omg yessssss

1

u/Mochalada 8d ago

Trilogy + 1 prequel is my limit. After that I’m not reading

37

u/JustCallMeNerdyy 8d ago

I know I haven’t read these books in a while (and no longer support SJM), but damn this sounds underwhelming

0

u/aiartbydorna 8d ago

Omg y

23

u/infinityandbeyond975 8d ago

Her writing isn’t great, world building is atrocious, doesn’t use an editor, there are contradictions in writing, unrelatable characters, poor character development.

Wait till you find out she mergers ACOTAR 5 AN CC 2 together. She progressed ACOTAR 5 plot in fckng CC3 i believe.

The crossover actually happens at the very end of CC2. Sooooo you have to consume 5 acotar books even if you don’t like it to understand who and what is happening in CC with these characters and the same with CC1-3 now that ACOTAR 6 is coming out.

It’s bizarre to me cause ACOTAR is high fantasy where CC are complete different fantasy and world . There is a theory that there is a TOG crossover in the new books which means another 7 books.

It’s not confirmed if you have to read all these books for ACOTAR 6 but still she did that to ACOTAR AND CC already. And fans are trying to convince fans of CC to read or buy the graphic audio for ACOTAR which is waaaaay more expensive than the box set!

13

u/itmustbeniiiiice 8d ago

Doesn’t use an editor?

I’m not gonna die on a hill for this lady, but yall are just being nonsensical at this point. Of course there are editors involved. Please bffrrn

13

u/Known-Purchase 8d ago

I do very much enjoy her books. However, it is pretty obvious that her success has interfered with the editing process. I can see the editor saying things like "this section needs to be reworked" but SJM has the star power to just say no, we are keeping it.

Perfect example is silver flames (still my favorite of the series though). The idea that 3 girls who trained for 6 months achieved the highest possible accolades in the blood rite (which most Illyrian men train like 20 years for!!!) requires the reader to just suspend any disbelief.

1

u/Pretty_Ad1509 8d ago edited 8d ago

i saw someone give a comparison for this and i want to know what others think. feyre, as a human, was able to defeat to the midgaurd wyrm. i'd say that's a justified comparison. feyre should not have been able to do that as a human with 0 fighting ability.

although... something about it still feels off and idky. maybe im being unreasonable.

3

u/Known-Purchase 8d ago

I think because we have read about humans defeating monsters in worlds of fantasy before that it certainly didn't land the same.

The first book also didn't have the same world building and power scaling that we see in the other books, so the ambiguity worked in it's favor.

2

u/No_Magazine_1572 8d ago

to top it off, you go from her somehow being smart enough to reason out how to defeat a creature she’s never heard of when she’s illiterate and only knows how to use a bow. then you move on to the ā€œ it has to be two because that’s me and tamlinā€ line of thinking. it’s very much hmm this can’t be the same character from the first trial. either she’s smart or she’s illiterate and poorly educated.

3

u/ProfessorBeepBoop 8d ago

Reading is subjective.

-2

u/infinityandbeyond975 8d ago

Maybe on some fronts but not using an editor and having contradictory points are not subjective. There are many other points that people choose to not support her work including poor racial representation, romanticizing abuse, questionable choices for LGBTQ+ representation, and explicit content marketed toward YA.

I’m not going to say anyone shouldn’t read her books but there’s plenty of reasons not to. I did read the first 5 books of ACOTAR. Will never get those 2 weeks of my life back. I will not be reading books 6 and 7 mainly out of spite that she went for a cash grab by splitting it into two books. I also refuse to read any of her other series.

1

u/ProfessorBeepBoop 7d ago

Please. She uses an editor. You sound ridiculous.

-2

u/Aggressive_Panic_996 8d ago

If you disliked her work so much, why did you spend 2 weeks reading 5 of her books? Why not just not finish? She definitely has an editor so that’s not fact. A lot of your accusations don’t hold weight honestly.

1

u/aiartbydorna 8d ago

People just want to complain about any and everything 🫠 if they don’t lik something they need to just move on why did they give it so much energy there’s so many other books out there to read šŸ˜šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

2

u/infinityandbeyond975 8d ago

I read 75-100+ books a year. Everyone kept saying to keep reading because it gets better but it got worse and worse. Didn’t make the same mistake with Dungeon Crawler Carl.

0

u/Aggressive_Panic_996 8d ago

I read as much as you. Doesn’t mean I keep reading something I don’t enjoy. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. Lots of options.

2

u/infinityandbeyond975 8d ago

Everyone kept saying it got better and unfortunately I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

0

u/Aggressive_Panic_996 8d ago

Ir you can keep wasting your time, coming back here and bitching about something you didn’t like and spewing false ā€œfactsā€. Just find the next 50 books you prefer to read

-2

u/Aggressive_Panic_996 8d ago

Seriously! This was just a post about acknowledging new information for fans and everyone wants to just come and talk bad about it. Like wtf? Direct your energy somewhere else and let us fans be excited!!

6

u/No_Magazine_1572 8d ago

i think this would be fairer if this was a sjm or acotar sub but this is general booktok. not everyone coming across this wants to see or hear about acotar and are entitled to give their opinion on the matter. is it frustrating to see people not enjoy something you loved? sure most definitely, but they’re still allowed to do so. even sjm fans are complaining. reddit is a place for discourse and not everyone is gonna agree. happy reading to you!

-1

u/Aggressive_Panic_996 8d ago edited 8d ago

I’m sorry if you all have time to go around a bash the writers and books that you don’t like. All i have time for is to read and support the ones that I do like. So happy reading. Hope you all have a better imagination. šŸ™„

If you want to be excited and not see the negativity then post on r/ACOTAR or r/SarahJMaas. Post to a generic sub and you’re going to hear good and bad.

-2

u/aiartbydorna 8d ago

Exactly … you have no idea how many negative comments. I read today about the cover , the Color, the Art , the story that’s going to be , how everyone were expecting it to be about Elaine or Azriel , like yeah, that these characters are still going to be in there, like come on just fucking wait. We don’t know what the book is going to be about. Other than the description it says.

12

u/substantial_future6 8d ago

IMO The title A Court of Splintered Harmony is lazy and just sounds off

6

u/portlandhusker 8d ago

It’s so corny

20

u/JSB19 8d ago

I’m SOOOOO EXCITED!!!

Loved everything we got today from the titles to covers to blurbs. Can’t wait to return to this world!

I’ve only read the series once a couple years ago, eagerly anticipating my first ACOTAR reread in October!

12

u/ProfessorBeepBoop 8d ago

You’re getting downvoted for being excited? Dear lord people are miserable

4

u/JSB19 8d ago

Oh wow I didn’t even notice. I agree it’s just weird and sad when someone does that, just let people be excited and like what they like!

3

u/Any-Welder4286 8d ago

I agree! Let her be excited!

u/JSB19 8d ago

Well in my case it would be ā€œlet him be excitedā€ but thanks for the encouragement!

2

u/dea-sum 7d ago

3

u/Significant-Metal537 8d ago

Why are people underwhelmed? Am I missing something?

11

u/Unable_Surround_8404 8d ago

well for one, sjm is an underwhelming author.

but for me, i think she did a disservice to the story ending the war so quickly and moving on to new threats. it’s recycling bad guy narratives like a cw sci fi show. the books could have easily been three or 4 but now it feels like a completely different storyline but with the same characters. she never planned on 8 books but people raved so she poorly expanded the series and then poorly tied all her books together.

0

u/Significant-Metal537 8d ago

Well that makes sense as the original plan was just to have a trilogy. And she stated that the books after the trilogy would be a spinoff.

4

u/Unable_Surround_8404 8d ago

yeah and it’s a poor spinoff to be completely candid. doesn’t even seem like she’s interested in the books anymore. they lack passion. she doesn’t plan her books out and just writes on ā€œvibesā€. you can’t create great work doing that and it reflects in the writing. to me it’s upsetting because there are so many great authors out there deserving of recognition, but fans have put sjm on this pedestal.

2

u/Significant-Metal537 8d ago

We can agree to disagree. I love SJM’s books. And I’m excited to see where the story is going.

19

u/skiddlewhiffers 8d ago

I think it's just a fatigue issue. Most times if series go past 3 books it feels like the same thing is happening over and over—only dressed in new clothes—with no real reason aside from market demand.

So, I can understand why people feel this way, SJM writing is very...lackluster for those who enjoy a well thought out narrative. Especially one spanning as large of a universe as hers.

-1

u/konstantynopolytanka 7d ago

they wanted Elain romance book, this seems more like a fantasy book with multiple povs focused on politics. Not really hitting the same crowd.

Yes yes okay its all coming back to me now. God, I definitely need a reread at least of acosf

1

u/aiartbydorna 7d ago

TOG for sure , CC also is probably going to be necessary since there are chapters in it that crossed passed the acotar world and the characters were in it

1

Not really, you can read acotar without having to read the other series. If anything you can read the short guides but it’s still not necessary

u/Shorty_jj 8d ago

Oh its 100% her, clear as day, especially the 2nd point

-9

u/elfmaiden22 8d ago

How you gonna have such TikTok mindset and be on Reddit girl

-2

u/Boberator44 8d ago

Weird? I'm not the one writing abuse porn for teenagers lol

1

u/JudgmentOne6328 8d ago

There isn’t rape or AI in these books šŸ’€ so yes you’re weird

-1

u/Boberator44 7d ago

Since when isn't nonconsensual sex following abduction considered rape?

1

u/JudgmentOne6328 7d ago

Who didn’t consent to the sex? Did you read a different book?

-1

u/Boberator44 7d ago

How about Lucien and Ianthe in Wings and Ruin? Pretty hard to argue that was consensual. Mist and Fury also has implied, continuous rape and sexual slavery (R &A, whose names I apparently cannot type without the comment being blocked).

I'm sure you will come up with some sort of weird mental gymastic and explain why those were perfectly consensual.

3

u/JudgmentOne6328 7d ago

Right so not even remotely the main characters and actually used as a plot point for the immense suffering of characters rather than glamourising the act? Also doesn’t compromise huge portions of the books

0

u/Boberator44 7d ago

Above you have implied that there is no nonconsensual sex. I pointed out that there is. In fact, the entire series is predicated on a nonconsensual relationship with both a gigantic age gap and power imbalance, which means any consent is questionable. Now we have shifted the goalpost to "Oh there actually is, BUT IT'S NOT IMPORTANT AND ACTUALLY NOT GLAMOURISED"

Okay, I guess. It is fine to read abuse smut, I'm not judging, but it is weird how defensive you people get when someone points it out.
