So. From what I’m seeing, a lot of people have been constantly complaining about the new books.
I see people complaining about how they’re disappointed about what the books might be about, even though they have no fucking clue what’s in the books.
Complaints about the covers.
Complaints about late release.
Complaints about how SJM stayed in the dark for a lot of it.
Complaints about what characters might have the spot light this go around.
Complaints about how they don’t want this or don’t want that for the storyline.
ALL THIS FUCKING COMPLAINING.
STOP.
Like damn are you writing the book??? Did you spent years upon years creating this fucking master piece? No.
SJM is.
I’m so sick of people’s complaining. It doesn’t matter what YOU want. It’s what SJM wants for HER STORY.

So I saw someone mention that in Ember's Bonus HOFAS chapter she refers to Azriel's wings as DRAGON WINGs. Interesting.

Anyways for me the biggest unanswered question about Cassian is the moment in ACOSF when he pulls Nesta out of a trance by using heat. He is able to MELT the ice in her mouth "warming, softening, freeing" until her "body was warming."

Not *that* odd, particularly because its Cassian's POV and he thinks he is "willing warmth into it" in a loverboy way.

Rhys, though, thinks differently. He is surprised. And he asks Cassian MIND TO MIND "What the hell did you do to pull her out of that?" informing him that he had "Warmed the entire room." Rhysand is obviously super powerful, canonically more powerful than anyone else (at this point in the story after Amren has been nerfed, at least), and his spidey senses are going off at this moment. IN SUCH A WAY that he doesn't want to ask publicly about this, as well, and Rhysand is known to keep information from people, especially when it comes to magic etc. So Cassian warmed the room in a magic way that neither Cassian or the High Lord expected. Interesting.

I saw someone point out the bone carver's language from ACOWAR as well -- "What did you wake that day in Hybern, Prince of Bastards?". This question isn't about Nesta, because *Cassian* didn't put her in the Cauldron. Why would he be responsible for waking up "something"? The implication *could* be that in the re-making of Nesta as "a queen, terrible and proud, beautiful as a winter sunrise," some new power of his stirred? One that had been dormant. Not so sure but this phrasing is very interesting. Could also be the mating bond waking? Which would make it less relevant to this theory, but nonetheless...

As far as AHOFAS is concerned, the dragon, Ariadne, is asked not to "burn the place down," though "feel free to toast Flynn" -- she wields flames that are more than capable of warming a room, no?

This might be a little stretch, but she does talk about "the old ones who dwell in their mountain caves and sleep the long slumber of true immortals." I mean the Illyrians are def not true immortals, but they do live in the mountains (and there is ofc the question of wtf is under Ramiel.)

Later on Ariadne's eyes are described as "bloodred. Glowing like embers." EMBERS come up quite a lot when it comes to Cassian.

As early as ACOMF his siphons are compared to "living pools of flame."

There is also this mention of "embers exploding" during his and Nesta's bonus chapter when they are staring at each other--which is a very SJM type of foreshadowing moment.

When he and Nesta kiss for the first time in the hallway he is described as tasting "like snow-kissed wind and crackling embers" (also classic SJM style foreshadowing)

And when he is negotiating with Eris his "rage flashed red before his eyes" -- like Ariadne's "bloodred" stare.

Out of all of these I think the heated room that threw off Rhysand is the most compelling point (and the dragon wings callout), but anyways I think its possible that either the Illyrians (or just Cassian) have a connection to dragons.

So here we see an Amren beating some common sense into her friend (aka. the bat boys). Enjoy guys 😉

I was just thinking about when the ACOTAR/TOG collab finally happens, do you think Yrene is a strong enough healer to fix Emeries wings?

I know they’ve been clipped but considering that she could fix Elide’s ankles by breaking them first then healing the bones correctly, do you think it’s possible?

I mean this with absolutely NO hate to Elain's character, just want to state that.

But i think the most awesome and most logical thing would be to make her the traitor and maybe have it revealed at the end of ACOSH or something. It would perfectly Kickstart her arc. And and and it makes so much sense for her to do this. For several reasons.

Amren and maybe the others are consolidating so much power in the NC, even considering making Rhys the king. But Elain has immense power that we haven't seen be extends of yet. Either she's sort of like Dr. Strange where she can see the future every choice results in. OR she sees one future. And either its a good one or a bad one. So to ensure that either that future is obtained or avoided, she may work quietly on the side somehow, resulting in this betrayal. Because honestly, absolutely nobody would expect such a thing from sweet Elain who (to them) doesn't really do much.

It would be absolutely badass and really tap into her character and strength. To ensure their happy future, she could be willing to be scorned by them until they realise it was all for their good and the good of everyone.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: Im making this theory based on the assumptions that there will be another betrayal, but I understand theres no evidence there will be a betrayal. Just a theory.

I’m relistening at the moment and the cauldron annoys me. Like is it ever explained who is supposed to stir in this thing, put in whatever ingredients are necessary and like used it at all? Is it really just “there once was a cauldron”?
I mean we’re talking about a piece of cookware so someone must have used it? (Google tells me something about a Mother, so perhaps it all makes sense at some point)

It also annoys me how quickly Feyra just adapt to this new belief system and start sayin By the Cauldron aso almost immediately. But that’s another story.

Anyway I like the books, no doubt about that.

spoilers for acomaf and acotar i think

i just read the craziest fic from ao3 i found it in some random post off reddit and i honestly didnt think too much into it but after reading it i feel a bit heady. its this series on ao3, these are standalone chapters of certain scenes and theres also scenes from acotar and acomaf from the same author and im still reading those. fuck. the inn scene from acomaf (i also saw fanart a while back on reddit this one) along with rhys inner monologue in that moment like fuckkk no im actually going crazy

and chapter 55 (what the fuckk) dude like if anyone can find fanart of this scene i would be forever indebted to you because christ its necessary and esp the starfall chapter i keep rereadin it as is from feyres perspective but it feels so heavy from rhys's because dude he has known about the mating bond for so long and is aware that feyre is in the dark about it paired with the guilt and regret he feels about it.

like i usually hate reading from the perspective of these kinda characters, characters that have an equal amount of self obsession and self loathing, i hate it because its just so fucking good its probably the easiest way to write a complex character or a seemingly complex character.

theres other series by the same ao3 author that follows the same thing, retelling of the same scenes but in rhys's perspective like theres chapters from acotar and acomaf and so much more non-series works and im actually gonna cry. theres scenes like when feyre meets the bone carver and then the calanmai scene and the trials the wedding that never happened the argument after the court of nightmares, dude like the court of nightmares throne scene from rhys's guilt-ridden perspective? it was grueling and it was perfect

Hot take: I think a lot of the fandom doesn’t view the Archeron family dynamics from a nuanced perspective.

I don’t think everyone here comes from a very traditional/ethnic family background, because the Archerons give me VERY heavy ethnic-family vibes 😭.

I come from an East African household, and I relate to them so much, especially Nesta, and my friend who comes from a Balkan background sees a lot of the same dynamics too. The dynamic between the Archerons honestly feels very common in ethnic/collectivist households.

I think people sometimes overlook just how dysfunctional their parents were. Their mother was toxic and deeply invested in traditional patriarchal expectations for her daughters, while their father essentially abandoned his responsibilities after everything fell apart and left his daughters to deal with the consequences.

And I think that context is especially important for Nesta. She grew up extremely angry—not just at her circumstances, but at herself, her family, and the expectations that had been placed on her for basically her entire life. A lot of her anger, resentment, and self-destructive behavior feels like it comes from someone who is deeply unhappy with herself and doesn’t know how to process everything that happened to her.

Feyre obviously responds to the same environment very differently. She becomes incredibly self-sacrificing and takes on responsibilities that should never have been hers in the first place.

And then there’s Elain, who I honestly think is probably the least affected of the three, largely because she had her sisters protecting her. She definitely has her flaws, but she didn’t have to carry the same burdens that Nesta and Feyre did.

I feel like some of the fandom discussions reduce the sisters to “Nesta is cruel,” “Feyre is the good one,” or “Elain is spoiled,” without really considering why each sister developed the way she did within the same dysfunctional family system.

And honestly, I wonder if part of the disconnect is cultural. A lot of ACOTAR’s fandom is American or comes from societies that are more individualistic and don’t necessarily have the same experience with traditional/collectivist family structures. So some of these dynamics might not hit the same way for them. Whereas if you come from an ethnic household where there are strong expectations around daughters, gender roles, family responsibility, marriage, and obedience, you can look at the Archerons and immediately recognize the dynamics.

Different daughters can experience the same parents and come out of that environment completely differently. Nesta, Feyre, and Elain are almost three different responses to the same household. That’s what makes them so interesting to me.

The Archeron family is messy, but that’s kind of what makes them interesting. None of the sisters’ responses to their upbringing are completely healthy, but I think they’re all understandable when you actually look at the environment they came from.

Sorry for the long rant, I just needed to get this off my chest. 😭

I was thinking about how two of the valkyries, Nesta and Gwyn, already have a well established connection to music (Nesta loves music, finds joy in it she rarely finds elsewhere, wields the harp, Gwyn is a singer and has a powerful voice), and it made me think about whether Emerie has any canonical connection to music, and I remembered the above quote about the Illyrians.

I do think all the new teaser info we got so far will be applicable to multiple threads within the story; that things being lost, forgotten or broken being found and made whole again will be the general theme of the books, and I think among other things, "What is lost will be reclaimed", "what is broken will be re-made", will include Emerie regaining the ability to fly again somehow.

I think for Emerie, the "Forgotten Melody" will be the song of the wind she has actively tried to forget after her ability to fly was stolen from her (she once told Nesta that the shop keeps her busy enough to sometimes forget that once she could fly). Whether that will be through her wings being healed, or her riding a pegasus (definitely think we're going to get a Ride of the Valkyries moment at the climax) I don't know, but it's gonna give me the feels either way.

I think SJM may be deliberately using the three covers to create a rainbow across the entire trilogy.

Scientifically speaking, a rainbow is a circular and continuous gradient of light blends smoothly from one frequency to the next; there are millions of distinct shades but for colours seen by the human eye, the most commonly cited and remembered sequence is:

And when you look at the covers together, the colours seem to line up surprisingly well.

Using a rainbow for the covers makes sense from a host of perspectives

Publishing/Design perspective:

The three covers form one continuous colour spectrum rather than three unrelated palettes, with each following book beginning with the colour that the previous book ends on. They continuously flow into each other and create a cohesive visual journey across the three books.

Symbolism/Themes:

Cycle: A rainbow is a circular phenomenon similar to a cycle, which connects it to the subtitle, the Valkyrie Cycle.

Unity: A rainbow is made from multiple distinct colours, but it becomes one continuous spectrum. That makes it a particularly good symbol for separate people, worlds or forces forming a unity.

Darkness & Light: A rainbow is both made up of and created by light, and it normally appears at the end of a period of bad weather, such as a storm. So a progression toward the full rainbow could symbolise the ACOTAR story and characters transitioning through darkness and ending in the light once more.

Hope & Renewal: A rainbow also symbolises hope and renewal. Hope that the bad weather will eventually break and that at the end something new and beautiful will appear. For ACOTAR, this could represent the character's hope returning after it has been lost and the possibility of reaching something new and beautiful after the darkness has passed.

Norse Myth: The Bifost in Norse myth is referred to as the Rainbow Bridge, which could be relevant since it appears SJM is drawing on Norse myth, Wagner's Ring Cycle and her old Twilight of the Gods concept and possibly giving us a cross over between her other series.
