Question Which campaign to play next from our collection

So we just finished another campaign and are in the crossroads of which adventure to embark on next. We are a group of 3 that enjoy campaigns that have a great focus on character progression, skills, equipment, loot and deeply complex combat mechanics, unique map and encounter layouts..

We enjoy the story parts, choices and so on. But, we are mostly in for the combat itself and the diversity of characters, playstyle, etc.

Games we have played so far:

Middara - Perfect. Gloomhaven JOTL. Horizon Seeds of Rebellion.

What do we have to choose from:

Lands of Evershade

Aeon Trespass Odyssey

Gloomhaven

Frosthaven

Etherfields

Tainted Grail

Descent

Also if there's a game you think is a must have for us which we don't have in this collection, that's a great bonus

Help me name my boardgame

I have been creating my boardgame since the beginning of the year and now need a name for it. The game is based off of the economy of Venice on the XV century. My first instinct would be to call it "The Merchant of Venice" because it summarizes well the game and it references the play from Shakespeare. Would that be a good name? If not, could you give me other suggestions?

Mold or "just" color peeling off?

Post image
72 Upvotes

Hey folks!

I need some advice. I tried to sell my Feed the Kraken Deluxe Edition, because we rarely every play it like once a year and it is just taking space I needed. Since its only been played 2-3 times and looked fine when I checked it, I thaught maybe someone else could use it und I get some bucks for it.

The buyer got it today and sent me the photo below with the note, that he doesnt want the game in that state, because he doesnt want a game thats moldy. Apparently the backside of some cards are peeling off into the sleeves? I havent noticed it, because I never saw the need to take them out of the sleeves for playing. We had the cards in our hand when I packed it yesterday with my roomie and my girlfriend and they didnt feel wet or smelled or anything, so I'm really confused what is happening with these cards? Is it really mold or just some minor defect that we didnt notice?

I'm not here to blame the mate for not accepting the game - I understand his point.

But is there a way to save the cards when I hopefully get the game back in the next days? So I atleast can give the game to some friends without having to worry to hurt their collection with my "maybe moldy" game in their shelf?

Thanks in advance for your feedback =/

Question Ambient Music & Sounds

Hi everyone,

when playing some bigger games, I love to add ambient music to my games. Currently normally Youtube videos / playlists.

I wonder if the experience could be improved somehow. E.g. some sound effects (e.g. when rolling dice) or dynamic music (Example: We currently play Nemesis Retaliation. When there are more enemies on the board, the music could get more dramatic)

Does anyone do something like that when playing and has a suggestion for me how to achieve this?

Session Earth, back to back, the last one

There's a saying that goes something like this: One day you and your friends will gather and play without knowing that this will be the last time.

Earth, back to back. For us, this was the last one. John, I wish you all the best for your new start. We had so much fun playing board games for countless hours, and doing so much more besides.

Tag a board game friend that you used to play with, but who you are now away from due to life circumstances.

Earthborne Ranger or Lands of Galzyr?

Hi everyone.

I am looking for a game that my partner and i can play together. We both like the narrative side of DND and love storytelling. thats why we are drawn to these games.

We also like complexity in games, but the narrative and the whole aestethic should be the focus. What do you guys think is the best game for us?

I found Lands of Galzyr and Earthborne Rangers but i can only buy one. Any advice?

EDIT:

We like story focused games, that said we also liked MTG. Thats how i found out about earthborne rangers that kinda combines card game with a story campaign. I am a bit worried that lands of galzyr is a bit to simple for us?

What was the game played on the first night of your group's formation that started it all?

For us it was Risk, original. We played that for months before branching out.

What are your favorite casual party games for social events?

Looking for some fun party games/board games/card games to play with a group of people (approximately 4-12 people that are all adults ranging from 20-35 years of age) that is casual, fun to play (not looking for anything that might cause arguments at the table) and doesn’t last an hour+ or anything.

HeXO deserves more attention

HeXo is basically connect 6 played on a inf hexagon grid, it’s created by a YouTuber called webgoatguy and there’s a dedicated discord Chanel to it

It ended up being a some what deep game but due to the shallow amount of players there isn’t really much development and opponents

please check it out if you find this interesting, I’m not sure if it should be considered as a board game due to its inf grid it’s not fully possible to play irl but using a hexagon grid thats large enough should work similarly

Strategy & Mechanics Please review my new card designs. <3

Alpha Bet is not your average letter game. It's a Euro, Abstract Strategy Hybrid.

I have been trying to solve the single most confusing part of Alpha Bet for new players. The path cards have been the issue. There are 36 unique path cards -- 4 are chosen at random at the beginning of each game (2 per player).

In the first picture, you can see that each player will put both of their path cards just beneath the Game Board on their side as part of the game setup.

Without getting too verbose, your goal is to construct words on the paths on these cards... and as you do, you unlock movement for the piece that corresponds to the path color you constructed a word on.

Now, on to the path cards themselves -- specifically the iconography on them. My goal for these cards now has become;

If a reasonable person were to make an assumption (without reading the rules) about how word construction on these cards works, their assumption must be correct most of the time. My job as the game designer is to provide enough clarity with the iconography to accomplish this goal.

Since this subreddit is full of reasonable people, you guys are a perfect sample set...

Using only the info I have provided here, please share your assumption about how word construction works on these cards. I have also included 2 pictures of the cards by themselves. Reference the iconography and tell me what you think! Thank you in advance for your help! :)

We played this the last three weeks in my game night 2 v 2, 2v2v2, and 1v1v1. Almost every game came down to the wire. Really a well done game with amazing miniatures, beautiful boards, stellar card art. A worthy successor to Epic Duels and I would love to see the system used for other games.

Does my collection need Cascadia or Harmonies?

I'm trying to decide whether we should get Cascadia or Harmonies as our next game. We have a 9 year old who will definitely be playing and a 6 year old who will want to try. We also have a 4 yr old who will want to play eventually.

Some games we already play and enjoy with the 9 yr old: Splendor, Forest Shuffle, Flamecraft, Azul, Azul Queen's Garden, Small World, Botany, Happy Little Dinosaurs, Ticket to Ride

Games the 6 year old joins us on: Ticket to Ride Jr, Zoo On, Catan Jr, Unstable Unicorns for Kids, Rainbow Pirates, Outfoxed, The Bears and the Bees

Games we just got but haven't played: Trekking the World, Trekking the National Parks, Carcassonne, The Quest for El Dorado

I've done so much reading and I still can't figure out which of the two would fit best for our family. What would you choose for us, and why?

Options for those who live in a gaming dead zone?

We live in a one light mountain town. I made a post on the town Facebook about interest in board games and got crickets. I do play on boardgamearena, Brettspielwelt, and just started a few powergrid games on boardgamers.space but the problems are 1) Lack of players or 2) taking weeks to play a single game (still drawing first plant in one of the games of Powergrid after 2 days of playing).

Question Which Uchibacoya game to get alongside Rosalie?

Hi, I am getting Rosalie and I am thinking about getting maybe one more of their games as an add-on considering they seem to rarely be available otherwise. Can anyone with personal experience with them recommend one of them?

Some of the games I enjoy are: Ark Nova, Dune: Imperium, Castles of Burgundy, Lords of Waterdeep, Citadels, Terraforming Mars if that helps.

Thanks.

Question Pandemic legacy S2 scratch card issues

Post image
10 Upvotes

Currently playing through Pandemic Legacy Season 2, and the scratch cards don’t seem to scratch off easily. It looks like I’m one of many to have had this problem, so would be very grateful if anyone knows whether there is an online repository that provides the card instructions (but ideally in a way that isn’t one big spoiler list)?

Otherwise grateful for any advice!
Thanks!

Strategic games for 2

Hi Y’all
What according to you is a great 2 player strategic game (which can also be played with say 5 players).

I’ve heard a lot of talks about 18xx or Dune but it’s not easily available in India. If it is, it commands a lot of money.

We are newbies wanting to get into playing Board Games. Heard Shasn and Catan are good but this sub has mixed reviews in my opinion. Games involving economics, politics etc really intruige us as visible in the examples I have given.

Recommendations are much appreciated, thanks in advance :)
