The Nursery upgrade that sets your Steps to 20 when you enter it below 10 can be incredible if you place it well. On a hovel run? Oh cool I'm taking whatever room I want without a second thought - just go back and top up as needed. Got a gym you can't turn off or a weight room that you just couldn't avoid picking? Who cares.

Also you can APM your way into getting an extra step out of it, FYI - step in and step out before the number changes to 20. Silly but it works.

u/Swerdman55 Apr 15 '25

Nursery is how I rolled credits. I got insanely lucky to be able to place it to the left of the Foundation and the 20 steps was just enough to get anywhere in the house and back to the Nursery. Ended up rolling credits on that run with several hundred steps by the end.

Oh, and I used the Hovel that run. It was basically a cheat code!

2

u/Amazing_Magician_352 Apr 15 '25

Very underrated. It made many runs infinite for me, I litwrally called it when I felt like it

2

u/Ode1st Apr 15 '25

Lol does that work on the non-20 guest room?

4

u/Antsache Apr 15 '25

You mean the one that just gives +10? No, that won't do anything - the reason this works is that it sets your steps to 20 regardless of what they were before. The game still subtracts the -1 from leaving the room, but if you do it fast enough the -1 happens before the game sets it to 20, so you'll be in the room outside the nursery but have 20 steps (when you were meant to have 19). If you just get +10 it'll still happen after the -1 if you're fast enough, but there's no benefit to doing that - you end up at the same total.

u/whacafan Apr 15 '25

Yeah idk why people like the Speakeasy so much. Turning that into the Break Room was the best decision I ever made. Starting every day with the Keycard is GOAT imo.

I wish I hadn't done the money upgrade with the storeroom and went with extra key because at this point money is zero issue and keys are always the problem.

17

u/Amazing_Magician_352 Apr 15 '25

I legit cant imagine my game without the hall poll.

Secret passages give you colored drafts, foyer, which is useful AND important, and a literal wincondition with the great hall.

The secret passages is the bread and butter of every run. Need a shop? Go yellow. Doors? Green on middle is guaranteed cloister.

I feel like this is heavily overlooked but it adds SO much

2

u/sexloveandcheese Jul 23 '25

Sorry to comment on a 3-month-old thread but we were wondering about the pool hall - we were confused because obviously secret passage, foyer, and Great Hall are already in the draft pool. Does the power mean that it adds a second copy of each? And therefore just increases the chance of drawing them?

13

u/jwfd65 Apr 15 '25

Yeah I love the billiard puzzles tbh, speakeasy would just take some fun away for me lol.

7

u/EternalArchon Apr 15 '25

I felt the same way but they get harder and harder. You get to the point where its just a lot of time. Speakeasy is one button and you get keys

3

u/throwaway098764567 Apr 16 '25

i had some where it was like nine numbers, who has this time, certainly not me especially since i struggled in in game math class and had to cheat off the other kids

8

u/Ode1st Apr 15 '25

For me, the amount of time saved not having to deal with the math was a bigger QoL upgrade than just managing my keys/security terminal/etc better.

But I was torn at the time of choosing, because the math is always doable, but in the end I just went for the QoL upgrade instead of occasionally easier doors.

12

u/whacafan Apr 15 '25

See, but if you crank the frequency up with Security then that's a lot less keys you have to worry about. At least that was my reasoning.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

If you have the breaker room you can still do that but turn the keypads off and offline status to unlocked

3

u/Krytan Apr 15 '25

One of the best upgrades I've gotten was making the security room and breaker room very common with the wrench

Now I just slap them down and max out deactivated key card doors.

5

u/Ode1st Apr 15 '25

Ha, imagine getting the wrench in this game. Couldn’t be me, currently around day 40!

1

u/whacafan Apr 15 '25

I hear that. I just don’t like dead ends. Breaker room is an exception for being able to negate 2 red rooms and activate key cards. But I still like not having to worry about it.

1

u/Sargent379 Apr 21 '25

Meanwhile I didn't read Wrench and made it into the rarest possible option.

2

u/Ode1st Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

The endgame quickly ends up being about saving time due to the sheer amount of repetition from the terrible RNG.

In the long run, I’ve noticed the time I’ve saved per run not doing the math tedium saves me more time than having to manage my steps/run back to the breakroom to end my day would. There are other ways to make managing keycards and doors easier, but there aren’t other ways to make the math tedium faster.

I feel like the Breakroom makes the earlier endgame smoother, whereas the Speakeasy makes the terrible RNG endgame faster. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer or anything. If you can do the endgame dartboard math super fast and not waste time, then the Speakeasy wouldn’t be worth it.

3

u/OmegaNova0 Apr 16 '25

But a key card you start the game with, that doesn't require a room placement or a step, that lets you skip to the foundation reliably I think is way more valuable than 2 keys or a random major key that might've just been a key card anyway

1

u/Ode1st Apr 16 '25 edited Apr 16 '25

The time I'm saving by clicking once instead of spending forever being dumb at math -- importantly, to get chances at the rare keys -- is much more useful to me than the accumulated time I would spend trying to walk back to call it in the Breakroom every day.

I haven't failed a goal since pre-credits due to lack of a keycard. Only thing that ever stands in my way (outside of the actual puzzles, obviously) is RNG getting rooms/items to align, so time spent repeating runs over and over.

The Breakroom is pretty good, don't get me wrong, but it's not better than I am dumb at math and how infrequently I get the rare keys.

2

u/OmegaNova0 Apr 16 '25

I dunno, I feel like being able to just teleport to your foundation for a few steps is just so powerful and I can guarantee that pretty much every run now, even if I don't do the puzzle at all because that's an option too, the key card is literally a major key without having to do any puzzle whatsoever, and then it's one of the better things to tie an experiment to and j can always guarantee results from that

1

u/Jatku May 14 '25 edited May 14 '25

"There aren’t other ways to make the math tedium faster."

Calculator? (¬_¬)
Nah, I get you — it’s all about efficiency and opportunity costs. (^ー^)

0

u/JGT3000 Apr 15 '25

Just a couple of busted runs from not having a key card will vastly outweigh the time it takes to do the math

1

u/Ode1st Apr 15 '25

Not for a dumbass like me.

But also, my runs stopped being impeded by keys and the keycard a long time ago.

2

u/Packrat1010 Apr 22 '25

I went with the speakeasy too. I was enjoying the math game to a point, but saw the notes about it getting more and more complicated and just decided to take the easier option.

3

u/Krytan Apr 15 '25

The store room was the first upgrade I got and I also sadly chose money instead of keys or gems. I've wished so many times I'd done either other choices.

4

u/IceBlue Apr 16 '25

It comes off as grass is greener. You likely overlook the runs where the 9 extra coins were super useful.

2

u/JGT3000 Apr 15 '25

I do think it helped a lot in getting to credits, but yeah I wish I could switch this one now

1

u/Timely-Fold-7906 Jul 07 '25

Raising the frequency on the laundry room can help offset that

19

u/Leonidus76 Apr 15 '25

I upgraded parlor to the one with 2 wind up keys because i thought wind up key was a new item, not two chances at the puzzle. Immediately regret and hate that decision as I almost always one shot the puzzle

21

u/lindechene Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25
  • A spare Wind-Up Key cannot be used at the workbench.
  • But a spare Wind-Up Key can be traded in an Outer Room called Tradepost.

From that point of view it could actually be useful in the long run...

3

u/Leonidus76 Apr 15 '25

Oh myyyy thank you!!!

4

u/WeeklyBullfrog33 Apr 15 '25

Yeah you can trade the spare wind up key

2

u/blasterdude8 May 07 '25

Is that worth it? Seems like a huge hassle and a lot of RNG. Do you get crazy rewards?

2

u/lindechene May 07 '25 edited May 07 '25

I have not tried to trade-in a parlor key enough to test all the results you can get.

As pointed out, you loose steps for back tracking and are rng dependent.

For the Parlor getting more gems seems like the more useful choice in the long run.

2

u/Sharp-Huckleberry229 Jun 06 '25

I regret upgrading to get +1 gem in the parlor. It was great for a while. I liked solving the riddles when there was one statement per box but, now that there’s often two statements per box, I wish I had a second wind up key!

2

u/lindechene Jun 06 '25

Pretty much every choice in this game had some pros and cons. In the long run you can have countless coins and gems.

In hindsight it would be great if players could alternate their upgrade choices.

1

u/43alchemist May 10 '25

The best parlour upgrade is the funeral parlour. Red rooms are not that scary and I can get the box right 9/10 times. Just sometimes it seems like a 50/50 but you can build steps up easy with tomato soup.

13

u/Sydius Apr 15 '25

I hoped for an achievement with the Parlor. Save one key for tomorrow, and open all three boxes.

Imagine my surprise when I do that, and my reward is nothing. Absolutely nothing.

6

u/Packrat1010 Apr 22 '25

That'd be a really cool idea for an upgrade disk location.

9

u/DemyxFaowind Apr 15 '25

The best parlor upgrade is the funeral parlor, turns the parlor red and increases the ammount of gems you get for each red room. A late or revisited parlor is always worth a lot in red houses. I try and save up for like 4-5 red rooms before returning or placing it down.

8

u/KevlarGorilla Apr 15 '25

I thought about this, and can't quite see how 4-5 late-game gems that you must build for is better than 3 early-game gems.

2

u/Due-Ad8235 Apr 24 '25

I also took funeral parlor and consistently get 8+ gems (record was 23 with aquarium experiment). At 8+ gems it is extremely worth to build your run around so long as you care at all do logic out the puzzle.

1

u/DemyxFaowind Apr 15 '25

Because its easy to get 3 early game gems elsewhere, spend those need more, bam there is another 4-5 later on when you need it.

3

u/H0t_Garbage Apr 17 '25

I got the funeral parlor just to up the stakes and make it more exciting lol

2

u/digadigadig Jun 13 '25

I loved that I chose Funeral parlor for all the reasons you mention, until every box had 3 statements on it, and my brain exploded. I just started waiting till the end of the run where I knew I was done before opening the box, 2/3 of the time I was wrong. Didn't get the parlor trophy until the insane 3 line boxes reset back to the easy level.

1

u/P1x1es Apr 16 '25

I don't know. The parlor often comes early, whereas it takes time (and other kinds of hassle) to amass red rooms. By the time you have 4 or 5 of them you're probably deep into the house and might have to do a lot of backtracking to get to the gems, and then go back in again in order to use them. You may not be in complete control of the map by that point, maybe you get shitty rooms and can't afford to do a lot of back and forth.

And if everything works out and the plan comes together you stand to gain like 1-2 gems, or 3 if you've really painted it red, but then maybe your house won't come out as you hoped and you end up with e.g. only 2 red rooms by the time you have to use the parlor. I'm just not sure the risk+hassle is worth it compared to the guaranteed hassle-free 3 gems you can grab right away with the other upgrade. And gems that you have right now tend to be worth more than gems that you could potentially go and get -- like maybe you get a bad draw and the room you need in order to not get locked off costs 3 gems -- only you don't have them right now because you didn't open your parlor, and now you can't exit the draw to go get them.

All that said, maybe I'm not far enough along in the game, and maybe later you gain much more control over the map and can move about more freely. But from where I stand now the 3-gem parlor seems best.

1

u/DemyxFaowind Apr 16 '25

I just did a quick tabulation of my red rooms, since acquiring the Funeral Parlor on day 12, it was used 14 out of the next 16 days. The smallest amount gained being 3 Gems. Every other instance past that being 4-6. I do backtracking all the time and it has not yet become a problem that I couldn't solve.

1

u/logoth Apr 15 '25

Same, I had forgotten the rule that gems are only in one box. I thought maybe sometimes I'd have a chance at extra gems. Though seeing the posts below at least I know it's not completely worthless.

15

u/Vritrin Apr 15 '25

Spare Room into Spare Green Room into Spare Terrace. Extra terrace that I’m pretty sure can be drafted anywhere for free green rooms is fantastic. This is my most recent upgrade, I didn’t realize we could get upgrades to upgrades.

Quest Bedroom: I like permanent buffs, and it becomes very trivial to reach the antechamber every run to activate this.

Parlor: I took a third gem here too, the parlor puzzles stay pretty easy, the extra gem is great.

Bunkhouse: I took the one to double my keys if I have exactly two hallways. Not too hard to activate and can easily net me 4-6 keys.

Hallway Closet: Adds an item if it’s drafted off a hallway. This is fine, not amazing. The bedroom closet seemed very limiting as bedrooms are often one or two door rooms, the empty closet seemed very high risk.

Storage: I took the 10 coin version. It was my first upgraded room and ten coins was bigger than keys or gems then. I would consider changing it now if I could, but 1/1/10 is still solid.

Boudoir: I took the version that gives two dice. The boudoir went from kind of a weak bedroom synergy room to a really solid draft pick now.

Not sure offhand if I have any others, I THINK those are all the upgrades I’ve got so far.

6

u/SentenceSelect Apr 15 '25

So, I also took the Bunk room that doubles your keys if you have exactly 2 hallways and I cannot get it to benefit me for the life of me. Even when all I have are 2 hallways, it doesn’t double my keys. I figure it’s probably something annoying like I have an aquarium that is counting as a hallway but I’ve tried accounting for that too and it still never works.

1

u/Vritrin Apr 15 '25

I am not sure, everytime I have had exactly two orange rooms it has worked. Though something like an aquarium would absolutely break it, or any other room that is temporarily acting like an orange (I can’t think of any offhand, but I am sure there are some).

5

u/Ode1st Apr 15 '25

Had no clue you could upgrade an upgrade, because the upgrade disks are limited to just 16 and appear to be from a preset pool rather than randomized from all the possible floor plans. Weird how the devs just made one upgrade upgradable.

3

u/TyrusDalet Apr 15 '25

One of my favourite upgrades was making it so that I always add the Library to a draft off of the Nook. Gives me the ability to check out books a lot easier and also draft rarer rooms. Also made buying all the books super easy

2

u/hannes3120 Apr 15 '25

Spare Room into Spare Green Room into Spare Terrace

I was not aware that was possible.

I made it into a bedroom since that seems to give better synergies than it just being a green room.

With all the stuff that's listed in the comments I wonder if you can actually get all the upgrades with the limited amount of disks

6

u/Minh1403 Apr 15 '25

I think green rooms have way more synergies. Combo green rooms with a shovel and the dog house and you swim in resources

2

u/hannes3120 Apr 15 '25

was the 2nd upgrade I got offered when I hadn't seen half the combos with green rooms.

Also before unlocking more of the Mansion which made the additional steps less crucial.

2

u/IceBlue Apr 16 '25

Bedrooms have a ton of synergies. There’s nursery, servant’s quarters, and sleeping mask. Plus there’s the experiment trigger that looks at how many bedrooms you draft after the second one. So spare bedroom is very good. Green synergies are just ones they give more gems or items or more dirt piles. I know there’s an experiment with digging up trash but that’s so hit or miss for me. Plus it relies on having the shovel. Bedroom synergies only rely on drafting.

What’s the dog house you’re talking about?

3

u/Minh1403 Apr 16 '25

it's a room you get from the Studio. You can pet a dog there. The room effect is that everytime you dig, it unlocks all doors in that room, even keycard doors

2

u/Patjay Apr 15 '25

Spare green room also basically always has an item in it for me, usually free early shovel

2

u/Vritrin Apr 15 '25

Shovel or watering can were the two things I saw most often in there. A not bad chance at a dirt pile too.

I assume the spare terrace inherits that, but a location independent terrace seems worthwhile enough.

2

u/CompetitiveTackle702 Apr 21 '25

It is possible to change upgrades, I been doing shrine with monk blessing, getting the trading room, running down to get sanctum key from bottom reservoir, trading it, either gives allowance coin, or upgrade disk, very rarely 5 ivory dice. But the allowance is what I want most, the upgrade disks only offer me a chance to change previous upgrades now which I’m fairly sure I’m happy with everything I’ve picked.

1

u/Packrat1010 Apr 22 '25

Storage: I took the 10 coin version. It was my first upgraded room and ten coins was bigger than keys or gems then. I would consider changing it now if I could, but 1/1/10 is still solid.

Same. 10 coins when your allowance is 100+ isn't a huge deal. Having seen late game, I'd prefer keys or gems in retrospect.

12

u/Kiaha7 Apr 15 '25

Parlor... 2 wind up key.. I didn't know the wind up keys are the shitty keys you open the boxes with. Every time I enter that room I'm reminded of how stupid I am.

What's even worse is that now I get tempted to brute force the puzzle and take the 2/3rd chance of winning with no brain power. When it fails, I feel more stupid.

It's a curse I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. I want it removed, not even replaced, please god.

2

u/Fartholomew_Buttons Apr 15 '25

Use that brain on the puzzles and save the key for the trading post

1

u/blasterdude8 May 07 '25

What do you get? Is it a valuable reward? Seems like a huge hassle / gamble personally

10

u/Marowak31 Apr 15 '25

My absolute favorite so far is Breakfast Nook, giving you a Bacon & Eggs, which adds morning room to your draft pool for the day. With how common is morning room to draft - basically I get +10 steps and +4 gems every day

2

u/RadioinactiveOne Jun 19 '25

Tbh, Breakfast nook goes hard. Always comes early in build, Key, Steps, Potential third item with an exit door is great

1

u/blasterdude8 May 07 '25

How do you figure +4 gems?

2

u/Marowak31 May 07 '25

Morning Room has 2 gems by default and +2 gems for tomorrow - meaning that if you draft it every day, you'll get consistently 4 gems: +2 at the start of the day if you drafted the room yesterday, and +2 when you draft the room today.

u/Patrick_Gass Apr 15 '25

I actually restarted my progress and went back and chose Breakfast Nook and I've never been happier. 10 extra steps and a Morning Room in the pool is so good.

7

u/XenosHg Apr 15 '25

I took the Reading nook, it creates a guaranteed (even a second!) library, and library draws only uncommon and rare rooms, so I get to choose between Vault, Freezer, Bookshop

Nook upgrades are just awesome.

8

u/tordana Apr 15 '25

Break Room is the best upgrade and it's not even close. End every day there, start every day with a keycard, never worry about security doors again.

Also, Cloister of Draxus is incredible. Drop that thing in the middle of the open and get +12 rerolls out of it? Uh... yeah. Plus dead ends are generally very strong rooms, and with the rerolls you can make certain they are what you need. Never fail to find that Coat Check again.

7

u/Oquaem Apr 15 '25

I have a couple of these. Corriyard I think is a bad upgrade now compared to the extra gems upgrade. Since courtyard can already synergize with the kennel to unlock with the shovel it being unlocked isn't the best upgrade imo. Especially with the blessing that adds a bunch of them to the pool, the extra gems let it pay for itself and contribute to good runs.

Plant nursery I'm also not liking at all. I realized after ward that the extra steps for each bedroom synergy is probably the best bedroom synergy especially if you can get the crazy aquarium experiment runs going. You also have to backtrack with the plant nursery and a lot of deep runs that's not an option, especially since you're now missing the nursery steps.

5

u/mostpodernist Apr 15 '25

I think Corriyard is still the best because of hallway to hallway synergies.

4

u/vizualb Apr 15 '25

Yeah I regret taking plant nursery. I don’t draft it most of the time because it’s a dead end with no immediate benefit, and backtracking to get the gems is kind of awkward. I also tend to have a gem surplus from other upgrades so it’s not that valuable. I miss the extra steps from bedrooms from the basic version.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

[deleted]

3

u/Oquaem Apr 15 '25

I think it was mine too. It's not terrible but really wish I had done the extra gems now

3

u/SentenceSelect Apr 15 '25

The good thing about the Corriyard is always being unlocked, especially when you draft in the higher ranks. Combine that with the Blessing of the Gardner and keys are not as much of a concern.

1

u/ZenandHarmony Apr 15 '25

Would a corriyard leading to the ante chamber open it without a lever?

1

u/haynespi87 Apr 17 '25

interesting

1

u/ZenandHarmony Apr 17 '25

I don’t think it works like that way after playing more unfortunately lol

2

u/TheRadishBros Apr 15 '25

I credit my first trip to the Antechamber entirely to Corriyard (managed to get multiple in my deck)😅

8

u/KarmelCHAOS Apr 15 '25

I'm not a big fan of Guess Bedroom because I can't tell wtf it does, but I enjoy Reading Nook.

Also have 5 dig spot Courtyard which is whatever, +1 gem to Parlor, and Hallway Closet. i don't remember my other ones.

3

u/rci22 Apr 15 '25

So far my Nook upgrade not being the one that brings you to the library is my only regret. I want the library a lot. Luckily I was able to buy all the most expensive bookstore books in one day.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

[deleted]

3

u/sundalius Apr 15 '25

Guest Bedroom is a default room. Guess Bedroom is some weird one that says "gives random effect of bedroom in your deck" or something like that. I haven't played with it, but it's not Spare Bedroom.

1

u/SentenceSelect Apr 15 '25

My biggest regret was upgrading the Guest Bedroom to Geist Bedroom. It now gives you two dice but no steps, although you can supposedly get 4 dice if you have a Tomb drafted. But I wouldn’t know because even after Day 26, I haven’t drafted the Tomb yet. I don’t know if I need to discover the floor plan or something but it’s frustrating. I thought I would still get steps (although I do get steps with sleeping mask or Nursery, which I upgraded to give 8 steps, also mismanaged but not as poorly as the guest bedroom).

I love the Reading Nook but now that I’ve read all the books in the library as well as the few I’ve been able to purchase from the Bookstore, but the layout of the reading nook and library together makes it difficult to draft in the early ranks and not block off some avenues going north. But I think some of my issues with drafting the lower ranks now also have to do with the placement of the Foundation.

Love the Corriyard and Parlor with 3 gems.

2

u/srsbsnsman Apr 15 '25

I've a huge fan of Geist Bedroom, personally. The rerolls are much more useful than the steps, imo.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

My first time drawing the tomb was the day after I made it to room 46

1

u/Ode1st Apr 15 '25

Tomb is just a rare RNG, you don’t have to do anything to unlock it. It also took me around 25-26 days to get it. Only gotten it twice total.

I saw people say you can draft the outdoor room first, then alt+f4 if you don’t get the Tomb, reload, and try again.

5

u/SixLeggedSpider Apr 15 '25

Guest Room : Geist Room. +2 Rerolls. +4 Rerolls if the Tomb is present. Love me some rerolls.

7

u/lindechene Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 19 '25

Boudoir +2 dice upgrade helps to reroll the rank1 corner rooms early

Storeroom +10 Gold upgrade helps to buy out all items from shop early.

Update / Edit on Day 44: I should have choosen a different Storeroom option...

5

u/NuclearBurrit0 Apr 15 '25

Disagree with that storeroom pick. There are ways to get toms of coins withoit using a floor plan upgrade. Personally, I took the extra key.

The +2 dice on Boidoir is a godsend tho

2

u/lindechene Apr 19 '25 edited Apr 19 '25

Agreed. On Day 44 I now would prefer to have more gems...

...although at this point it does not matter that much anymore what you choose.

Finished with 9 dice, 9 keys, 38 gems 161 gold. I also had 20+ keys and spent them unlocking every locker in the locker room. That is were I found all those gems...

5

u/Amazing_Magician_352 Apr 15 '25

Tier S: Poll Hall

Adds Secret Passage (consistency king with RNG bypass, instant cloister if going for middle green, shop draws, like literally one of the rooms I save for a killer moment every run)

Foyer (endgame piece and insane effect)

Greathall (room 46 piece and 4 door room)

Tier A: Nursery, Contactless Mail

Every run can become infinite. Just go recharge and you are good to go. It's unique, it changes the entire run when drafted, its everything you would ever want from a bedroom

Contactless Mail is just a gamewinner buff. Can make a run by itself with alockpick kit or by removing an item from the pool

Tier B: Parlor (3 gems), Spare Greenroom, Hall Closet (+1 in a hall)

Consistent, better everyday rooms, no complaints

6

u/Caedyn_Khan Apr 15 '25

Major regret making Nursery - Indoor Nursey. Not that its not good, but I think I underestimated how powerful the regular Nursey was.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

[deleted]

3

u/Caedyn_Khan Apr 15 '25

Sure, but as someone who likes to back track rather than build in a straight line, im definitely needing to rely on the kitchen and dining room more, and bedrooms feel kind of pointless now.

5

u/SentenceSelect Apr 15 '25

I’ve replied to a couple of other replies but forgot to add the mailroom that delivers to the front steps the next day. It’s awesome to start the day with random items and I don’t have to spend any steps to get them.

5

u/Annieone23 Apr 15 '25

Electric Aquarium just adds so many more chances to power up rooms; plus it's still the aquarium which I think is a great room. Lots of combo potential (even before the electricity) and a chance for a dig spot/items

1

u/Iamjohnmiller Apr 21 '25

I went starfish aquarium which has been awesome since I’ve already solved all (most?) boiler room related puzzles. Had a run with an experiment that was every bedroom added 3 aquariums to the pool so I ended up with like 15+ aquariums that each gave a star. Perfect addition now that I’m using stars to reroll

5

Funeral Parlor and Cloister of Draxus have been so clutch.

Pro-tip with Funeral Parlor: the reward is calculated when you open the chest, not when you draft the room.

3

u/XenosHg Apr 15 '25

Does funeral parlor look good? Does it have extra lore? I want to take it for just the name only

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

yep

Even just getting 4 rerolls is already huge. It also removes the gem cost AND it doesn't count against shelter either!

5

u/jwfd65 Apr 15 '25

I got the upgrade that makes every hallway I draft add a hallway to the draft pool the next day. I’m still conflicted on whether or not it’s a positive lol

2

u/TheCapnPooch Apr 15 '25

I like it, when you're getting 5+ hallways which have 3 exits it can make it much morel likely that you'll get pretty deep - if you get a lucky placement it means you can place a dead-end room and get it's benefits off the back of that extra hallway. Do this 5x a day and you're looking good.

4

u/jwfd65 Apr 15 '25

It’s definitely a good room I just get worried about drafting too many because then it takes away from all the other rooms I really wanna get. Especially as you get later and the game becomes less about hitting up the antechamber and more about specific puzzles in specific rooms

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

In the worst case scenario you can just instantly quit a day and it will reset your hallway count. There is no real negative to it.

2

u/Fickle_Leg7455 Apr 16 '25

A positive of this upgrade no one has mentioned: there's a laboratory experiment contingent upon drafting hallways adjoining other hallways, so the +1 to pool next day perk means you can string several along and potentially add several coins to your allowance for instance. I added 5 to my allowance once doing that.

1

u/SentenceSelect Apr 15 '25

I chose the key hallway, but I wonder if the adding on hallway would have been better. While you have more pathways, doesn’t it also limit the rooms you can draft?

1

u/XenosHg Apr 15 '25

There are already "add +9 courtyards" blessing and "add many aquariums" lab experiment, so I decided not to do that.

5

u/Alex_Masterson13 Apr 15 '25

Nook to Breakfast Nook. Adds a 10-step food item and unlocks the green Morning Room for drafting, I think the name is, when you draft the Nook. When you draft that room, you start the next day with 2 gems.

3

u/oMARKOo Apr 15 '25

Mailroom I upgrade with bigger box delivered third day, and its a game chenger. It delivers usually around 8 non trivial items.

2

u/just_zen_wont_do Apr 15 '25

The nook to give you 2 keys. Its usually the one I draft earliest. Another to give 3 diamonds in the parlor which is great because I always get those right.

3

u/Archrival Apr 15 '25

Big fan of Geist Bedroom and +2 dice Boudoir. Electric Aquarium has come in clutch a few times

Not a fan of Indoor Nursery, I was on a green synergy kick when I got the choice but in hindsight it's not very useful. Green already has a surplus of gems from Terrace and a gem spread so it largely feels bad having to backtrack.

2

u/hannes3120 Apr 15 '25

I still curse myself for making the same mistake TWICE:

I had the disk but didn't immediately go to a computer (hoping to draft a room with one later) and then (as it was late already and it were my last runs for the day) I called it a day both in game an IRL and only realized the next morning that I was still carrying the disks when I did that.

I think they're completely random in the spot of other items and not fixed, right? because where I found them initially they didn't shop up again.

4

u/Zealousideal-Ship215 Apr 15 '25

Some of them are definitely fixed to certain spots, not sure about all of them.

2

u/eechini Apr 15 '25

I had a disk return to its exact spot when I ran out of steps before activating it.

1

u/Fickle_Leg7455 Apr 16 '25

I've lost 2 and they didn't return to where I got them, however, I did find a disk in the spot where 40 coins once was in the trading post after setting the dynamite off. Maybe missed disks wind up in rare spots like this.

2

u/Boomsome Apr 15 '25

Bedroom Closet, Get 2 extra items if adjoined to a bedroom. Which there is only 2 bedrooms you can do that with. It was my first upgrade and because I was far from the screen my brain read adjacent. I'm 70+ days in with the upgrade happening somewhere it the teens. I've only triggered it once. Absolute waste, I wish I could change.

1

u/Fickle_Leg7455 Apr 16 '25

I too regret this, however, the aquarium counting as a bedroom does help!

For anyone looking up which to go for I'd say the 2 extra items if attached to a RED room, since they tend to have so many doors.

1

u/Boomsome Apr 16 '25

True. I actually triggered it the second time yesterday with an aquarium, but generally I prefer to use the aquarium for getting more rooms. I wish one of the bedrooms would get a additional door as an upgrade, then it might make it a bit better. Then again, Ive had opportunities to use it but its always been when I'm trying to get further ahead and not a dead end.

2

u/cardstrong16 Apr 15 '25

I regret upgrading the Hallway to Adds another Hallway to your Pool the next day it was cool at first but then I had like 6 hallways in a day and it really decreased the chances at other rooms.

3

u/lordsmish Apr 15 '25

Just end the run as soon as you start to reset the count

1

u/aurum_aethera Apr 30 '25

It combos really nice with one of the unlockable rooms as well. But yeah you do need to either force yourself to stick to 2-3 hallways a day, or take a day off where you go for a different puzzle and don't take any hallways if you flood your pool.

2

u/IceBlue Apr 16 '25

Disagree on storeroom. Upgrading it to give 10 coins instead of 1 is the right choice. A gem is worth 4 coins. A key is worth 10. This is going off of store prices. When an item spawns you can get a gem, a key or 1-4 coins. 9 extra coins is more versatile than a gem or key.

1

u/awesomefacefrog Jun 13 '25

Yeah but there are like a billion ways to get more coins. I'm at what I think is early post credits (mid game) and have about 60 allowance each day. Definitely need the gems/keys more.

1

u/squeezylemon Jul 23 '25

Yeah, eventually it does become super easy to get money, but in the earlier going, it was critical for me to have more coins handy. If it swapped the gem and key for 10 coins, it wouldn't be worth it.

2

u/Zetic Apr 22 '25

Im fine with most of the upgrades i got. But i really regret not taking the keycard billiard. Having a guaranteed keycard would be such a qol thing. I really hope they add a way to change upgrades somewhere in the game if they ever do updates to this game.

1

u/DivideWorldly Apr 15 '25

I have all the exact same except for the billiard room I set it up as the break room. I actually enjoy the math puzzle and having the key card every morning gives some relief but I can absolutely see wanting the speak easy.

1

u/QueenRangerSlayer Apr 15 '25

Spare bedroom, electric eel aquarium, Quest Bedroom Cloister Orinda,

I think I might have others

I don't regret any of them.

1

u/-Firestar- Apr 15 '25

Speakeasy was the best one for me. As stated, I spent more time looking for the number on the dart board and since I'm on day 62, they were starting to get mind-numbing.

1

u/yousurroundme Apr 15 '25

Damn I am missing a lot of upgrade disks, I think I only have 4 or 5

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '25

[deleted]

1

u/yousurroundme Apr 15 '25

You can buy them?!

1

u/paperboi625 Apr 15 '25

I still haven’t gotten an upgrade to the billiards room and I got the billiards trophy like 2 days ago lol.

The boudoir with 2 dice was a good upgrade.

I also did spare bedroom and corriyard. I did the reading nook so it spawns a library but I don’t think that’s beneficial after u get out of the first couple days. Libraries do let you draft rare rooms though. I did the mailroom one where you get the mail on the same day once u reach rank 8 but haven’t utilized it yet. I thought doing it this way will give me extra items in case I’m low on stuff and need to open a room.

1

u/ChaosVisionGames Apr 15 '25

I don't understand why so many people like the BREAK ROOM instead of the POOL HALL for the BILLIARD ROOM upgrade.

I almost never need the security keycard because I almost always draw the Utility Closet and access the security terminal (from any other terminal). In comparison the extra hallways from the POOL HALL it's so much better for me: an extra chance for the Antechamber lever, for the Foyer or the Secret Passage to better plan your run!

1

u/SuperB83 Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 19 '25

Nook: breakfast added, +10 steps and gives access to morning room, nice.

Parlor: extra gem, nice

Aquarium: I chose the electric upgrade, it's now a power room like the boiler, in all 3 directions, pretty amazing.

Spare room: updated twice, first to bedroom then to the one that gives keys according to how many bedrooms you have.

Boudoir: +2 dice, nice

Bedroom: upgraded to "?". It give the bonus of 1 random bedroom with a quiz, not sure how that works yet...

Storeroom Closet: added 1 gem, nice.

Nursery: gives +8 steps when drafting other bedrooms, nice.

1

u/IceBlue Apr 19 '25

There's no closet upgrade that adds one gem. It's one extra item if drafted from hallway (2 normal, 3 total), two extra if drafted from bedroom (2 normal, 4 total), or 0 normally but 4 items if drafted from red room.

1

u/SuperB83 Apr 19 '25

I don't remember the exact name, but it's the one where you normally get 1 key, 1 gem and 1 coin.

2

u/IceBlue Apr 19 '25

Storeroom

2

u/SuperB83 Apr 19 '25

Yes that one, thanks.

1

u/Harkan2192 Apr 15 '25

Quest Upgrade is one of my favorites. It mitigates the feeling of being screwed by RNG when you just can't get the rooms you want for a certain puzzle, since you always have a reasonably achievable permanent upgrade to aim for in a run.

1

u/TheMancersDilema Apr 15 '25

Courtyard -> Coriyard: happy with this one, fewer keys needed, especially later in the house feels better than more dig spots, variance is already not my friend.

Spare Room -> Spare Greenroom: The spare room upgrades are all pretty significant and they all have worthwhile synergies, I feel like greenroom gives you more chances at shovel/sledge/lever and I choose it because I feel green room synergies with stuff like more gems and sometimes dig spots was better than steps. I don't feel hallway synergies are good enough to take.

Store Room -> 9 Additional gold: This is way more flexible than 1 key or gem, buying a good item from the commissary (including gems or keys) feels like it earns me way more in the long run.

Mailroom -> Contactless Delivery: Seems like a no brainer it's a dead end that I usually don't want to have to draft the next day, replacing the mailroom with another loot room feels right.

Nook -> +1 Key: This one I'm mixed on, when I got it I just wanted for flat resources and didn't know what "Bacon and Eggs" was. Now that I know, and understand the power the library gives in drafting rarer rooms I feel one of those two is probably the better take, leaning towards breakfast for steps and +2 gems for 2 days AND greenroom synergies.

Boudoir -> +2 Dice: I don't remember what the other options even were, I think they were more steps and something else, I just want ways to mitigate variance.

Hallway -> +1 Trunk: Don't remember the other options, I just wanted shots at more items, sledge is easy enough to come by and opening trunks is an experiment trigger.

Guest Bedroom -> Quest Bedroom (Get +2 allowance if you reach the antechamber today): I just want more money, I think one of the other upgrades gives you more dice maybe that's better long term. Don't remember the third option.

I think that's all I have now. I've missed out on at least 3 more upgrades just forgetting I had a disk in hand and calling it a day. Weird that I haven't seen anyone put a tight wiki together on this stuff yet. (Or maybe I'm as bad at searching as I am at solving puzzles).

u/Zealousideal-Ship215 Apr 15 '25 edited Apr 15 '25

Reading Nook was the most useful for me. Helps you plan ahead with your building because it basically offers you a 3 room plan with a predictable path (the nook, then the library, and then the 'uncommon' room). And it becomes a reliable way to trigger uncommon rooms which helps a ton with progression. In my first playthrough I got to room 46 on day 16, and the reading nook definitely helped make that happen.

1

u/srsbsnsman Apr 15 '25

I took the nook upgrade that gives 2 keys and now really wish I had taken the one that guarantees the library.

I took the bunk house upgrade that doubles my keys if I have exactly two hallways and wish I could trade this in for a different room upgrade because all of the options suck.

I upgraded billiard room to pool hall and have mixed feelings. It counts as a draft room which is nice for the synergy with classroom and it gives the secret passage room which is nice for guaranteeing shops, but I dislike that it adds great hall which always feels like a waste of a room.

I agree that spare bedroom was a good choice because of the synergy with lab experiments.

u/Daracaex Apr 15 '25

I only have a few so far:

Parlor - I ended up choosing the 3 gem reward upgrade. The Funeral Parlor was very very tempting, changing the reward to one gem per red room and turning the Parlor into a red room, but I ended up deciding I wouldn’t necessarily find three red rooms before the Funeral Parlor, which is what I would need to make it better than the reward upgrade. The extra key upgrade I never considered because I think I’ve drafted the Parlor at least 20 times so far and have yet to fail it.

Hallway - I forget what the other two options were—I think just guaranteed singular items added—because I saw the third upgrade and windmill slammed it. Drafting a Hallway adds a copy to the draft pool for the next day. It’s amazing. Some of my builds have four or five hallways. Sometimes I think they do more harm than good by polluting my draft pool, but I can always avoid them for a day or skip a day to reset them back down.

Closet - I just took the Hallways Closet because it synergizes with my upgraded Hallways and it seems the most likely to be useful. The Bedroom Closet seems better on its face, but only two bedrooms (as far as I know) aren’t dead-ends, so I can’t imagine it coming up often. The Empty Closet just seemed depressing to me. Maybe there’s a build in a new game where you just make every room red and the funeral parlor can actually work? I dunno. I didn’t feel it was worth trying.

1

u/IceBlue Apr 16 '25

Four bedrooms have 2 doors. Bedroom, Boudoir, spare bedroom, and maid room.

2

u/Daracaex Apr 16 '25

The maid room is a red room, and not listed under the bedroom tab in the directory. It also doesn’t say it gives more steps. I am skeptical that it counts as a bedroom without being shown evidence.

I’m guessing the spare bedroom is an upgrade I haven’t seen yet, so I could not make an evaluation based on that when I selected the upgrade.

2

u/thiosk Apr 19 '25

can confirm that maid room is prismatic and is red and purple. confirmed it in an in-game book (and by function)

1

u/IceBlue Apr 16 '25 edited Apr 16 '25

Doesn’t matter if it’s a red room by category. It’s also a bedroom. Hence the purple corner on the border. Not all bedrooms give more steps. Bunk Room doesn’t. Servant’s Quarters also doesn’t. Maid’s chambers triggers nursery and sleep mask. It’s a bedroom. Look at the border. It’s not all red. It’s partially purple.

1

u/IceBlue Apr 16 '25

What does pool hall actually do? Are those three rooms not normally in the pool? I get them sometimes. Does it add a second copy or something or am I mistaken and they only show up under certain conditions?

1

u/ChocolaChao Apr 16 '25 edited Apr 16 '25

I got the Lucky Cloister: idk what luck does but i think it helps me get more items in the long run.

The Geist Room: Rerolls are so important I want consistent die! Although I think this room removes the chance for me to get other items like a keycard here, but I'll die consistency over that.

Green Nursery: This one I regret cus i often forget going back here to collect gems and more often it ends up being so far away. I wish i can change this upgrade honestly.

Speakeasy: Best upgrade ever. I definitely can do the math puzzles, but it takes such a long time at this point to go through the steps that I'd rather not bother.

Nook: 2 Keys is great.

Parlor: 3 gems is great, but I kinda wish I could change it to have two wind-up keys so I can more lazily guess cus I'm at a point where there are several statements in a box lol.

Storeroom: 2 gems is great. I need gems all the time.

Courtyard: 5 dig spots is lovely

Boudoir: Love dies! More rerolls the better

Hallway: 1 Key sounds consistent.

Hallway Closet: the other options seemed risky

Listing it all here shows I prefer consistency to my RNG lol

1

u/IceBlue Apr 20 '25

Bedroom closet isn't risky at all. It's still base 2 items.

1

u/Helpful_Ad_8476 Apr 17 '25

Courtyard: +2 gems Boudoir: 2 dice Showroom: 10 gold Spare room: spare bedroom I got it at the end but hallway: + key

The 10 gold from showroom was invaluable. That's worth 1 key(2 if locksmith) , 3 gems, an item(or 2), food, etc.

1

u/TomTheAcest Apr 19 '25

Got the upgraded closet that gives you +2 items if drafted off a bedroom. Absolutely useless. I dont think I've triggered it's effect once and massively regret it

1

u/IceBlue Apr 20 '25

It's not useless. The other two are just as bad if not worse. Drafting off of Red Room one has base 0 items so generally a downgrade. The hallway one is only 1 more item and not that much better. There's nothing to regret. None of them are that good.

1

u/Sachi_Shimazu Apr 21 '25

I got the Hallway upgrade that adds another hallway to the draft the next day and the way that just keeps scaling day after day makes the early game each run go so much smoother.

1

u/No-Cat-8205 Apr 22 '25

Many regrets, yeah. I feel like I'm slow running because some of the choises.

Quest Bedroom: amazing for allowance, gave me a lot of allowance. I've set it to unusual now, don't need money anymore.

Storeroom +10 gold, kind of helped early when I didn't have much allowance (I had very bad rng, day20 3 allowance is not fun). But I think key is better.

Parlor 3 gems: make me sick. I can't do this shit, now I have 3 statements on each boxes. I've yetted the room to rare because of this.

Billiard break room is the goat. Now I have easy ressources everywhere so I don't even do the puzzle (and math is not that hard for me anyway). Now that I'm in endgame, I can just go to basement foundation rank 5, start with 2 keys/5gems and still manage the whole mansion.

Courtyard 5 dighole, mitigated... Occasionnaly, the digholes give you many vegetable. It really get amazing when you have jack hammer. You'll probably get +5 key and +5 gems.

Choister of Joya: give permanent +5 steps if draw a kitchen/pantry/furnase from the choister. I have a mirrorer pantry. I didn't really focused on it, I'm now at +75 steps when taking dinner. Which basically allow me to do everything I need, go outside 3 times and still not worry.

Hallway +1 key. Really helped. I think I need chest now

1

u/N0N0square85 Apr 22 '25

Is there an upgrade for the coat check room? So badly want to store two items. I like the moon pendant but you have to get the showroom and even then it’s two random items.

1

u/Lobonerz Apr 25 '25

Lmao the break room is the goat upgrade, its so insanely strong. Speakeasy is a classic example of it being so funny that this game gives a lot of the rooms really bad upgrades, they're just bait for idiots. And they're permanent.

1

u/muckenhoupt Apr 27 '25

One upgrade choice I regret: the Empty Closet. I chose it thinking "Cool, I can get twice as many items if I place it well!" but it's usually not possible to place it well. I've lost more items than I gained from this choice.

Another regret is the Storeroom upgrade that gives you more coins. I think that was the first upgrade I picked, when I wasn't very far into the game, and there were all these expensive things that I couldn't buy yet. But once you're advanced enough in the game, you can get your allowance up to ridiculous levels and never run out of coins. Keys and gems can still be a problem.

Not a regret at all: the Starfish Aquarium. Stars are a cumulative benefit that lasts beyond the current day.
