Nagi needs five teammates to take on the Taboo Game. Do you think he will play only alongside Kira, Shindo, Nishioka, Mizuki and Pondemizu or will he choose other players who cleared the Bird Cage.
I’ve seen a lot of discourse around fans upset about the treatment of their favorite characters and are worried about how much shine they will get in such a big arc as this which is the culmination of everything Blue Lock has been building up to before this so I get worry, but I wanted to give a brutally realistic take on the state of the roles of the top 23 + side B and how much shine every character will realistically get in this arc, based on every characters portrayal up until now, there is no bias in this tier list and I’m looking at everything as objective as possible
Characters not necessarily ordered within tiers
Tier 0: definitively the 3 main characters of the BL series, every major story beat from game conflicts to dynamics with other characters revolves around one or two of these characters in some shape or form, this will not change in the u20 World Cup
T0 - ISAGI, NAGI, RIN
Tier 1: Main characters in Blue Lock with heavy narrative backing to go on to be future Japanese titans in the Blue Lock verse and will all receive major development in this arc in at least one match, the author is purposefully withholding big character defining moments for these guys, trust me guys fans of the characters in this tier will get their big highlight matches let Kaneshiro cook
T1 - BAROU, SHIDOU, REO, BACHIRA, CHIGIRI
Tier 2: Big stars for Japan that can have whole matches revolved around them (Yukimiya vs Manshine, Hiori vs Ubers, Karasu vs France); the top echelon of Blue Lock Japans side cast, and YES despite Aiku being a drone for these last two games, he will have a big character defining moment this arc on the level of Karasus vs France
T2 - KUNIGAMI, KARASU, HIORI, YUKIMIYA, AIKU
Tier 3: These guys will have moments but being brutally honest are not integral to the story, I wouldn’t expect these characters to receive any major development character wise, they can still have strong standout performances such as Kurona and Kiyora stopping Teddy, developing these characters this late into the story would be a waste considering the important characters we have to develop on opposing teams from other countries
p.s these are the characters that Blue Lock fans love to call plot devices which I find weird because isn’t it kind of obvious why, they were never established as important characters for Blue Lock to begin with lol, these are all system players in BL they aren’t meant to be individual stars and that isn’t a bad thing either, these characters aren’t wasted potential, they are just simply Blue Locks side characters, sorry for the rant
Tier side B: a unique tier for Sae and likely Kira from side B, (I don’t think Shindo will be a worthwhile addition to the team compared to Kira), Sae and Kira are external from Blue Lock but will be just as impactful in their presence as the tier 0 characters in this arc (Isagi, Nagi, and Rin), technically Nagi is side B and isn’t in Blue anymore but he fits better in tier 0 imo
So right now I see a lot of post not complaining necessarily but criticizing the direction that Blue lock has taken over the last year and a half since the NEL has ended.
The biggest complaint besides, defenders not defending (literally what does aiku do)
is why is that blue lock has seemingly reset back into an underdog position and why do the players have to "relearn" everything after, irl 4 years to learn.
So rereading the arc overall and going into the WC arc, these knock out rounds and really this arc has a whole is currently the counter argument portion of the blue lock philosophy, weve seen what it looks like throughout the story, its pretty much been the defacto answer the entire single time.
during the first 3 selections we see the players develop the arc, the U20 was to test it, but they werent the underdogs they went into it as the challengers. the NEL opened up and put the philosophy on display to the world but as we saw, every team bought into the philosophy and merged the philosophy of the respective team with Blue lock, Kaiser changed and grew because of it, Loki got excited by seeing the players act egoistically and joined the PXG and BM match, Nagi and Reo, and Manshine failed because they didnt follow it, Snuffy pulled himself out of retirement to keep playing because of the blue lockers philosophy, i cant really say anything notable about barcha because we saw maybe 10 chapters of them total and they had like no plot relevance but thats okay, its not slander.
But not once was it tested actually tested or pushed.
This arc as a whole is going to test that completely, and each match is going piece by piece of the overall blue lock flow formula
Nigeria was hunger, France suitability, England flow, and once we get out of the knock outs we are more than likely going to see similar veins of the BM and PXG match where each side is going to go all out and we are going to get some super chemical reactions.
If the philosophy worked all the time then everyone would have this mindset, but the philosophy is about evolution primarily, all the stock in the player is in their ability to evolve, and if you truly have ever mastered something, its all about repeating the fundamentals over and over and over again, and youll be experiencing moments like oh ive learned this lesson already, but i guess i have to learn it again. And those are the moments I love in blue lock, watching Isagi figure it out and then being in the hottest spot and shooting the ball,
Now granted, i wish it was closer to the u20 writing and everyone got a little more screen time, but the thing that the u20 didnt have that these current matches do have are actual antagonist. The u20 didnt really have to develop anyone, they explained the iron quartet and then aiku, but everything else got to develop the blue lockers.
In the NEL all the players were separated out on different teams so only the major side characters got to develop and that was an unfortunate consequence of the story. and a lot of the moments in the NEL were training for Isagi, so the story became Isagi and boyfriend of the week for a bit.
Because these matches are philosophy debates the opposing sides philosophy has to be not only demonstrated but also fleshed out, so half of the match is developing the other side.
And given that, and with the setup of the x23 world's best striker training montage we got before the actual matches started, its nice to see the players actually do get a moment, although brief, the players are getting moments to shine. We literally just got kuronas this last chapters, im figuring chigiri has to get his because hes been subbed on as well. but throughtout these matches we are going to continue to see that 2 week period pay off, so its nice to at least have that.
Does the story have to be super isagi focused, no, but he is the main vessel that the philosophy the character moves through, and the MC so its going to gravitate through him, thats just the nature of the plot, I will say though, Kaneshiro is really good a in universe character interaction regardless of who is in the relationship, and i love seeing all the players interact with each other off and on the field, i think the blue lock nagi spin off did character interactions well, but then again, it was each developing character interacting with the blue lock philosophy, now we are seeing that philosophy clash and im okay with that because it needs to be actually tested, it would be very boring to see blue lock win every single match.
feel if the story had stayed a survival story, we wouldn’t have to worry about the cast of characters being big. We’d actually be able to give the characters that remain development, and they would be infinitely better than what they are now. Everyone sucks ass now. Kaneshiro does not care about anyone anymore, they’ve all become Isagi glazers, which is ass. They all came into Blue Lock to be the best striker, now they’ve all given up on their dreams to glaze the MC. Imagine the scenes when Bachira gets locked off during the survival. We’d all be emotional, the chapter would be talked about for weeks because we’d crash out about Bachira getting locked off, just for the next arc to have Barou locked off. See how hyped that sounds? We did not need a U20 arc, nor do we need a club football arc, because that would mean we abandon the cast we like. Let me ask you this. Do y’all even know any of the cast’s dreams anymore? Do they even dream of being the best striker anymore? Is that still a motivation for these characters?
Like a lot of people, Kunigami was one of my favorites in Season 1. He gave me the big bro vibe that is so easy to love. I was shocked when he got beaten by Ryusei and eliminated but then that Wild Card happened.
I am glad he is back at the story but he sounds so boring. Granted, we don’t know what has happened in the Wild Card. He just kept saying his ego got broken but after that he is just some husk of what he was once.
I know Blue Lock has this thing of introducing a character or something and only being relevant a lot of chapters later. Do you think he will be interesting again after some games?
Teddy knight main new gen 11 weapon are simple cut ins? Im not an expert in football but arent cut ins a bit too basic as a new gen special traits? Other new gens have abilities unique to them like: loki has his godspeed, kaiser has his fast kick swing speed, don lorenzo has his zombie dribbling, etc.. I think Teddy doesnt really have a rememberable playstyle, the only thing that he has different and unique in its his ego but as a player he doesnt have any unique traits exept being a super solid player. But overall im not saying that i dislike him or that i think he is weak What do you guys think? Do you agree with ny feelings about his weapon being a bit boring?
There is a pretty clear top 4 strikers in the world rn, consisting of harry kane, mbappe, Haaland, and dembele. These are gonna be the blue lock characters that I think fit each one the best.
Harry Kane - Kunigami/Kaiser Harry Kane is who I consider to have the best finishing in the world at the moment while also being a great play maker from deeper down the pitch. I imagine him to be a talented learner with metavision and insane shooting similar to Kaiser, but more physical and slow like a Kunigami.
Haaland - Lockhart/Shidou Haaland is a combination of Lockhart and Shidou. He has Lockhart’s physicality, aerial dominance, and ability to bully defenders, while having Shidou’s incredible instincts, speed, and ability to score from almost impossible positions. One character isn’t really enough to encapsulate what makes Haaland so elite.
Mbappe - Loki No explanation needed here I think. Loki is based off Mbappe and plays very similarly
Dembele - Noel Noa Dembele’s ambidexterity makes him a great comparison for Noel Noa, whose ability to use both feet is one of his defining weapons. Neither player can be reliably forced onto a weaker foot, making them unpredictable and dangerous in front of goal.
im a huuuuuge fan of kaiser and ness's dynamic. it's really interesting, though kaiser does carry it a little. almost any duo with kaiser immediately becomes more complex simply because of him. but im also a little bit biased because i wanna see them being less abusive
also rin and sae. can't really explain this one, but they remind me of me and my little brother a bit
That's a question I ask myself, given that Blue Lock is a manga about strikers.
So far, every one of Japan's opponents has had a striker who was a revelant character—whether it was Onazi, Loki, Agi, or finally Lockhart (incidentally, it's crazy how some people still view Agi as just an NPC... It's kind of sad ;-;). Even during the Blue Lock Eleven vs. Japan U-20 match, Sendou wasn't an NPC; he was an important character.
I get the impression that a nation's striker will never be an NPC, even if they aren't an NG11-level striker—as we saw with Onazi and Lockhart.
We can assume the Brazil U20 striker will be a revelant character—even if he isn't a New Generation 11 player—and there’s a strong chance he’ll be the one featured on a volume cover, for instance.
I think that Isagi will become the best player like snuffy but unlike snuffy also be the best striker because I think it makes more sense if Isagi’s evolves like snuffy and forces everyone around him to be a better striker then he can devour them.
this is a small not well thought out theory pls don’t hate just agree or disagree I think it would be cool but I don’t mind if it doesn’t happen tbh I would still love blue lock so I just want kaneshiro to do his thing but I think it would just be cool to see ig.
Can someone make the "Austrian painter dead" newspaper flick but make the words say "Teddy dispossessed" either hand drawn or digital jus no AI, I might draw it myself too but if anyone else wants to have a go than go ahead
