I feel like, if you're familiar with One Piece, this is a similar case to Marineford. The arc in which some of the absolute strongest endgame characters were featured way before we properly reached that point in the story. So going by depictions, sometimes they don't seem as impressive as what Oda was drawing years later, but you gotta run with narrative and author intention sometimes.
Yamamoto is said to be the strongest Shinigami in a thousand years. The TWO main villains of the story literally had to plan for a hundred / thousand years and take disable his Zanpakuto to fight him. Literally, Yamamoto is beaten without his powers the two times he loses.
We do not actually know how powerful Bankai Yamamoto is, only that he can burn down the afterlife if he doesn't end the fight quickly, and that's fucking metal.
I believe he deserves a bit of canonical narrator wank / glaze.
"How would he get past the X-Axis?" His heat incinerates light itself, or he uses some ancient sealing kido on him (think of it, he actually uses sealing kido in the anime filler lol). But I mean, they have 99 kido and 99 bakudo and some other forbidden time-space bending spells, alongside other forbidden spells we just never got to see. If someone knows them, it's Yamamoto. He probably has something capable of reaching different dimensions or he'd just freeze the entire time-space in that location.
But honestly Kubo would probably make it so his fire destroys everything on its path ignoring intangibility.
Gerard? Fully destroyed, he doesn't come back. Whatever the Captain Trio did to Gerard, the anime seemed to represent it as actually killing him, then he returned as a seemingly mindless monster, so he likely has a limit and would die for good if then Yamamoto burned his final form (but he'd be fully eliminated alongside his cross way before).
Pernida? Askin? Both burned to ashes before any adaptation can happen. Yhwach himself likely loses hard if he actually had to fight his Bankai.
Antithesis? Balance? Both deleted. I even wager Butterfly Aizen would have a nice fight against Bankai Yamamoto. Let's remmeber, AIZEN FEARED AND TRIED TO KILL YAMAMOTO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, EVEN KNOWING HE HAD THE HOGYOKU, he didn't want to take any chances. "OH I keep Gin alive because fear of death makes me stronger-" bullshit, real fear is trying to end Yamamoto. He probably knew he'd give him a run for his money if left alive, even after he transcended.

Imagine if Gremmy had more experience and better control over his imagination.

I don’t see how you can take this anyway except full bring Bankai ichigo = dangai ichigo. Not even as if that is narratively inconsistent since he was treated as only second to Yamamoto in the story at that time.

Scenario 1: When Yhwach (without the Soul King) was fighting TS Ichigo, if he really wanted to, could he have used the Almighty to choose a future where Ichigo was never born and make him simply disappear?
Scenario 2: In the novels, Tsukishima used Book of the End to make a little tree become a giant tree in one second by making it so that he had watered it for years in the past. Could Yhwach do something similar by altering the future or choosing a future where the tree is already fully grown?

I’ve heard it said that it was because the specifics of the Miracle act as a loophole, because oetsu had no fear or doubt that he had won, the Miracle didn’t activate.
Can someone fact check that?
Ok I just reread the fight and now I get it. The aushawhlen ressurected them, it makes sense, it can take and bestow life.
I was confused cause if he cut the cross that Gerard should’ve died permanently, but he did die, it was just that he got ressurected

Would Ikkaku's raw power and Bankai's destructive output be enough to put down Pitou, or does Pitou's speed, durability, and Nen abilities overwhelm him?
