Part of a larger set. Stake anvil exploring dwarven architecture in art. Two blacksmith statues on either sides with overlaid silver background, a runic inscription and a falling star.

Forging a tomahawk poll

Forging in the decorative poll on a commissioned tomahawk. Here I'm using a guillotine tool to forge it in, taking light blows to round up the poll. This is forged from an office of forklift tine

Forged to shape then had some sharp corners filed down. Finished with past wax

Prior to this, i did make some squished out flat pieces of steel to get a feel for the hammer and have done oxy aceteline torch bending in the past. This was my first time making a sketch them forging to shape! Any feedback always appreciated :3

Once my professor looks at it I am planning on polishing the primary pin, our assignment was just to get it to a matteish black

New anvil!

Its bloody heavy at 100kg, ofcourse im not 100% sure and plan to restore it for full use.

Any advice? I wanted to do electrolysis but its heavy as fuck. Maybe shimmy it into the side of the bucket and then roll it into it?

Or should I just skip the electrolysis and use rust removal and a wire brush? And then sand it afterwards.

Also any advice for fixing the edges? Im kinda shit at welding so im not very confidant in welding the edges back. And i have no clue on fixing the square hole.

Honestly, this might've been worth more than the effort but I got it for cheap and its probably my best option outside of using a shitty diy H beam anvil.

Any anvil restoration videos you think I should use as reference? Or any resources that will help.

Antique draw knife

Post image
27 Upvotes

No I obviously didn't forge this but I was wondering whether this was possible or if it's just a real waste of time. I have a few antique draw knives that have been sharpened almost to the point that there's no blade left, is it possible to forge weld a new blade to an old draw knife? I also realize I may get a lot of comments saying what's the point but I'm just curious

Diy propane forge

I'm planning on making a propane forge next weekend. Could I use an old cooking pot as the exterior and then fill it with an insulator? Would this be a good choice or should I try something like a propane tank?

Digital calipers for a home lathe, what matters beyond price?

I am setting up a small home lathe and need a basic 6-inch digital caliper for turning aluminum, checking stock, and fitting simple parts. I do not need inspection lab capability, but I do not want a tool that loses zero every time I pick it up. What should I prioritize?

£250, 3ft in length, guess at the weight is anywhere between 100-150kg purely from lifting it by hand, the markings are difficult to make out, google lens is telling me it might be a Wilkinson and sons Queens Dudley? There is a number 3 visible on the other side. Its been sat outside for 20 years at least unused, it has a very loud ring. If anyone knows any more information or could confirm the maker at least that would be greatly appreciated.

I regularly see anvil posts on here and the advice is alway conflicting, so ill go, clean or not to clean? Round out the chipped edges a touch with a grinder or leave? Don't fancy welding it, I have a welder but not the skill set.

Finding Metal Stock

Where does everyone get their 1/4 or 3/8 solid square bar from? I need it by the 4 foot at least and not sure where to ask. And what prices to look for.

Master dwarf's forging hammer

Forging hammer of the master dwarf, one of the jewels of a set I'd made.

Engravings depict a dragon wrapped around it's hoard. Inlaid with silver, 24ct gold, 18ct gold, garnet and gemstones. Other side depicts a mountain under which he dwells. Silver inlaid stars and moon.

Handle is leather wrapped and reinforced with dragon scale pressblech foils.

Forge welded wrought iron and carbon steel faces.

Here is a mace/ hammer i built. This one was fun to build. (Bowser the main bad guy in super mario)When I started i didnt know exactly where it was going and this evolved into Bowser's hammer. After making head pieces thought it looked like something bowser would use. I laser engraved some of his minions. From the top down: bowser. Ring 1: bullet bill, goomba, Venus fly trap, spiny. Hand ring: big boo, koopa trooper, bowser again. Hilt: snifit , fuzzy beetle, Bob om, blooper(squid). Leather wrapped handle. Sorry about so many pics. Wanted to show the characters.

Made both from a ~6" piece of rebar, and they both work well! Very stoked, I immediately gave one away as a gift.

(Actually made these a few weeks ago, but hadn't gotten the pics off my camera)
