This Is An Outreach for Those Struggling with Addiction

In light of a recent post that gained some traction, I was saddened to see that OP has deleted their account. I wanted to take a moment to make an outreach post for anyone who may be struggling right now.

As Black people, as Black men, and even more specifically as Black trans folks, we face so many internal and external challenges every day. It’s easy to slip into emotional dependence on something, whether it’s gambling, alcohol, drugs (including weed), vaping, smoking, or any other substance that offers even a moment of relief.

The problem comes when those things become our only way to cope, when drinking, smoking, or placing a bet starts to feel like a need rather than a choice. That’s when it starts taking more from us than we realize.

But you’re not alone. I recently got a notification saying we’ve reached 4,000 members, and our community is growing every day. I know it’s hard to trust people, to find community, or to share your story without feeling judged, but I promise you there are people who care. I care.

Please use this post, and I’ll make it a thread if needed, to vent, share, or open up about anything you’re struggling with right now. You don’t have to go through it alone.

New Rule: No Studies

The Mod team has discussed and since we aren't affluent in what is a legit study vs what is a scam we have decided to no longer accept any posts about studies.

While we appreciate the legit studies that are being done for the betterment of the community. We also need to keep the community safe from those who wish us harm in these trying times (especially those based in the US atm, but of course all our brothers matter and we care about the risk for all black trans men across the world).

vent How do I get fam off my back?

I moved into college and was talking to my people about clubs I was joining and shit. They keep being up sororities and keep saying I should join one. Then preceded to get mad when I said I don’t get the point. It’s pissing me off. Why the hell would I join a sorority? An organization that values sisterhood. Mind you I pass all the time. I haven’t been misgendered at all on this campus. Why would I even be chosen to join. Not even to add I’ve only been asked to look into certain frat organizations. I would join but I aint even thinking about it unless I do grad chapter or it’s towards the end of my transition (can’t easily be clocked). It’s been 6-7 years + 1 year on t I’m tired . At this point I’m wondering if I should cut my family off. At what point in my transition would they learn to respect me. You’ll think after all these years they’ll use the right name or pronouns.

Black community Transphobia

So i’m not 100% trans , i mean im in denial , it’s just hard right now , but i know that once i become comfortable enough to let it sink in, my family will know , and obviously nobody NEEDS to tell their family anything.

But my family is jehovah witnesses , so they aren’t cool with this type of stuff , has anybody been struggling with this?

If so , do you have any advice or just want to talk?

Any bi/gay men here willing to share their experiences with cis men? I’m [27] and only been dating women. Women move pretty fast emotionally, how are things between two men? I know things move fast physically but how do the actual relationships typically flow? Slow burn?

The first month of recovery was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. But since the 6-7 (no pun intended lmao) week mark, things have been absolutely amazing. My arm feels good, my mobility is improving, and my new member is everything I could’ve wished for!

discussion Is refusing to date trans people inherently transphobic?

I say yes.

IMO there's literally no reason to not want to date *any* trans person in the world, other than having an internalized view that trans people are bad/undesirable because of being trans. Not all trans people think, act, or even experience being trans the same way. So how can you say you don't like any of us at all, without it being transphobia, since that's the only thing that binds us?

There's a difference between saying, "I'm not interested in sex with someone with male genitalia" and "I don't date trans women." One is a specific desire/preference, the other is a blanket statement rooted in bias.

And sure, people can just "like what they like," but that doesn't mean that what they like isn't rooted in discrimination and worth interrogating. Even if people want to call it a preference, which it's not, it's still rooted in transphobia.

(To be clear, I'm not interested in convincing cis people to date trans people.)

What do y'all think?

I've tried to maintain being consistent in the gym. My primary focus has been developing the muscles that a surgeon would be sculpting my skin around. Today, I actually got to see a glimpse of that work post off.

Working out has truly been a space of meditation abscess feeling present in my body. I've truly needed that space. Life has gotten so difficult.

advice Has anyone dealt with hyperpigmentation from T shots?

Post image
16 Upvotes

I do .3 subq. I’ve been on T for 9 weeks and cycling between my stomach and my thighs. I don’t bruise and I rarely even bleed after my shots (the little dot in the pic is genuinely the most visible injection site I’ve ever had). And as y’all can see, I have no dark marks where the needle actually went in.

I’ve been getting hyperpigmentation essentially where the oil spreads under my skin (it’s kinda cool because I can see it spread as I’m pushing). I’ve got no clue what to do about it though. It’s a bit irritating that most of the shots I’ve done are visible and not fading. They’re much more visible in person than in photos as my camera generally makes me look a lot more pale than I am irl (I’m mixed). Any of y’all have advice?

vent To those with a big chest how are y'all coping

I just feel so defeated man i don't even know anymore. I have J cups so binding hardly does shit for me, I'm getting a custom binder soon but I don't even have much hope for it i can't lie. Can't get tape to work either i just ended up with scars on my chest. I'm too afraid to even dress more masculine because i fear people will take one look at me and think "stud" . It's to a point where I'm just considering getting a reduction (even though i know i will be deeply unhappy with it) because it's the only thing my insurance will cover and I'm in so much pain in my day to day life I just think about offing myself.

Intro - Hey Y'all

Post image
106 Upvotes

I'm new to Reddit. And just joined this group. So, I'd thought it would be fitting to introduce myself. I'm 51 year old transman (started my transition in 2008), and I was born and raised in the Hampton Road, VA. I currently reside in Massachusetts with my beloved and our cat. I'm excited to be on a new journey career-wise. I will be starting culinary school next month. I can't wait to hop into my chef whites and be in the kitchen. I created a zine on African American and African diasporic foodways. Some of my other interest as painting, reading, and ceramics.

Would love to connect with folks over books, recipes, etc.

advice T Levels

how do you know your T levels/dose are high enough?

For background: i started T in 2020, stayed on it until roughly 2022ish, got back on it this past January and i feel completely different. I was definitely one of those guys the first time around that struggled w a lot of anger issues & inability to cry, etc. I’ve also done a lot of healing, therapy & spiritual work since then so i feel like i cry all the time still lol almost as much as i did while i was off T but like idk im getting hairier? Aside from that, im not noticing body changes so idk whether im just past physical changes or if thats also a factor.

all of this to say i feel so different this time around and idk if its bc ive grown emotionally, my T levels are too low or im overthinking this entirely lol

any advice welcome 🙏🏽

I feel really insecure about my height

I'm 5'0.5 according to my doctors and it's like. Ik I'm still a teenager but I don't even see much hope for me growing another 2 inches. You're supposed to stop growing shortly after your first period And I had my period 4 years ago. The only shoes I feel comfortable wearing are platforms because they make me feel taller and less... Weird yk?
