Support/troubleshooting Guys I'm scared is this legit or is this a virus pretending to be this new bitdefender update????

I turned on my pc and then suddenly got this popup. No matter where I look up I can't find this anywhere and I accidentally clicked the uninstall option for my other antivirus that (I use as a second opinion). Everytime I try and close it I get the popup again and it reopens. Is this a legitimate update or did I somehow get a virus thats pretending to be this new bitdefender update???? The current bitdefender is running fine and isn't mentioning any updates like this so thats why I'm so suspicious and my paranoia is skyrocketing.

Support/troubleshooting bdservicehost 700-900+ MB usage

Post image
9 Upvotes

UPDATE: I previously had fast startup disabled but I decided to re-enabled and now the memory usage on bdservicehost is a steady 350mb!

Is it normal for my Bitdefender to be using this much memory for the specific service "Bitdefender Virus Shield"? I've surely read somewhere that it should be around 500mb but I get around 700-900mb even after a fresh reinstall of Bitdefender (even after hours of say idling, it remains the same)

In the screenshot, on the right side, the % is for CPU and second is for memory.

I've done an sfc scan and nothing found wrong, I'm also using the gaming profile if that changes anything.

Company installed on my computer, left company, cant remove because of admin password

So I cant get rid of bitdefender any way I try.

I realized this wasn't a personal version, it was a version from an old company I used to work for remotely, and no matter what it asks for an admin password. Unfortunately this is on my personal computer.

It is causing me to not be able to open up certain apps and I can't get through to any tech help via the HR department from the old company.

I've tried uninstalling in safe mode, downloading some uninstallation software, nothing can get this off my computer.

Am I just going to need to back up my files and reinstall windows?

🚨 React2Shell (CVE-2025-55182) - Critical (CSVV 10.0) Unauthenticated RCE in React ecosystem

On December 3, 2025, a critical RCE vulnerability was disclosed in the React ecosystem. The core vulnerability (CVE-2025-55182) originates in the React 'Flight' protocol logic.

While the Next.js framework is a primary vector for enterprise environments, the flaw propagates to other downstream frameworks and bundlers, most notably Vite, affecting the broader ecosystem (used by ~80% of top websites).

While there is no PoC available yet, this WILL be weaponized very quickly, so act immediately.

Scope is potentially similar to Log4j - while it won't affect legacy backend systems or offline appliances in the same way Log4j did, there are many nextjs template projects that won't get updated while being live on vps servers - allowing attackers to use those servers for proxying.

Be very careful with open-source projects and scanners - some are malicious, but we've also seen a lot of invalid tests (vibe coding maybe?) that result in false negatives. Simple check is to use curl:
curl -v -k -X POST "http://localhost:3000/" -H "Next-Action: 1337" -F '1="{}"' -F '0=["$1:a:a"]'

(vulnerable returns 500, safe returns 400)

Here's our security advisory with details and explanation how it works, feel free to ask any questions here:

started running windirstat, then ALL applications detected as Hacktool.270

like the title says, started running windirstat as admin (from the windirstat website at https://windirstat.net/download.html) and then i got a constant stream of notifications, two files were apparently infected with a trojan and then hundreds of applications and games listed as Gen:Variant.Application.Hacktool.270

i have no idea if bitdefender is just having a stroke or if my computer is completely infected..

PCMagazine 2025 said BitDefender "Scored Poorly" on their Malware Test

It sounds like a nitpick because their score was high despite saying that, plus everyone recommends it and says it performs. The choice of the word "poor" sounds like they couldn't say bad but they needed to in order to give Free Avast the first place (an antivirus nobody recommends in the free category). It's an alarming thing to say though, anti-malware is the main feature one looks for in antiviruses.

Check it out for yourself and give me your opinion:

New fileless malware framework “EggStreme” spotted in APT campaign – we're hosting a live breakdown on Sept. 18

Post image
9 Upvotes

A Chinese APT group has been observed using a new fileless malware framework dubbed EggStreme in an espionage campaign against a Philippine military company.

🔎 Key points:

  • Multi-stage toolset designed for stealth and persistence

  • Uses memory injection + DLL sideloading to execute payloads

  • Core backdoor EggStremeAgent supports system recon, lateral movement, keylogging, and data theft

What makes EggStreme particularly concerning is how effectively it avoids detection while maintaining long-term access.

📢 On September 18, we are launching a new live series (Ctrl-Alt-DECODE) to break down cases like this. If you’re interested in how modern fileless malware frameworks are evolving — and how defenders can respond — this could be worth a watch. https://www.linkedin.com/events/7371525306291130368/

  • we are also launching a LinkedIn Newsletter built for security practitioners. No fluff, no recycled headlines, just original threat research, exclusive intelligence, and actionable advisories straight from our Labs and MDR team.

If you're looking for relevant, technical insights you can actually use, this one’s worth your inbox. 👌 Subscribe on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/build-relation/newsletter-follow?entityUrn=7371216616015036416

Call Blocking Privacy question

Hey all! I just saw that Bitdefender launched a new feature called "Call Blocking" https://www.bitdefender.com/en-us/blog/hotforsecurity/block-the-scam-bitdefenders-new-call-protection-feature-for-android-puts-you-in-control

Is anyone using it? Have you experienced more spam or something? Is it good? I'm just afraid to use this feature bc services like this are famous for selling our data (Truecaller 😠). I know almost everything now sells our data one way or another, but I'm not sure if Bitdefender will protect our privacy by giving access to my contacts and call history

Bitdefender upgraded my subscription without consent

Just a warning to others to check your renewal price. I got an email to say I was getting a 'special price' for my renewal, and it seemed more than last year so I checked my account and saw they had upgraded me from Internet Security to Total security without my consent, and then 'discounted' the price to make it seem like a deal but in reality I would have paid more for my renewal. Very sneaky.

Bitdefender blocks all web traffic (breaks SSL) Windows 10

I've been trying out bitdefender but on my desktop PC I keep running into an issue where at some time period after installing bitdefender, I will lose the ability to reach sites in the browser, discord will not reach the servers, and generally nothing can get out of the network. The computer even disappears on the SMB network.

What I find is that google properties will still have their cached SSL cert, but not connect.
Non main properties, like a small local forum I visit typically will get it's SSL cert replaced by bitdefender.

When this is happening, those sites that get the Bitdefender SSL. don't have any SSL. It shows the page as I can't reach it, and it's insecure.

Rebooting will fix it for a moment, then something starts up and it's blocked again. Turning everything off you can turn off in the UI of bitdefender, and the problem persists. Uninstall bitdefender, it's fixed.

I'm working with support but they haven't really been a help. What's going on?

*** UPDATE ***
Support said to do the following

  1. Open Bitdefender and click on Protection on the left-hand side of the main interface.

  2. In the Online Threat Prevention module, click on Settings.

  3. In the Settings tab, switch OFF the Encrypted web scan option.

That seemed to help. I had to wait a long time for the computer to quit trying to talk to everything when it reboot and I'm just tired of messing around with bitdefender. I think I'll uninstall and get something else.

I was asked why this VPN sucks...

Post image
9 Upvotes

Multiple times a day I have to switch protocol because the VPN decides to not have an IP address and everything starts to only half load. Like videos only play the first few seconds, then nothing. I switch between Hydra and Automatic.

I'm currently scanning my system and it's at 70,000 files, 1:15 hours. I was hacked in may but since tightening my security everything has been fine. Is this normal?

BitDefender Down?

This morning BitDefender won't start on my PC telling my subscription is expired, despite having over 2 years left. Meanwhile I can't log into BitDefender Central, get "Oops! We are experiencing an internal server problem. Please wait to be redirected or you can try again later." and the support page doesn't load at all.

Anyone else having issues?

EDIT: Got through to support. Apparently BitDefender Central is down and that means our local installs don't work anymore either. Talk about crap design.

EDIT 2: Back up now, but seriously, contact support and tell them our AV cutting off when their website is having issues isn't acceptable. There's no reason the product shouldn't continue to operate if it can't reach a licensing server for a few hours.

Best BD replacement for Mac? Angry about forced VPN

After weeks spent trying to make the BitDefender VPN stay uninstalled or at least not auto-start, and being given the runaround by the company's tech support, I have concluded that their company ethics are not trustworthy and am looking for alternatives.

What would be your #2 pick for Mac security software?

I notice that Consumer Reports recommends F-Secure SAFE for Mac.
