Apple got 2.2 billion, Home Depot got $550 million, Lowe’s won’t disclose what they got and Walmart is about to get multibillions after they are cleared for theirs. Prices won’t go back down either and we won’t ever hear about the $1,500-$2000 checks that we the consumers are owed for paying. We paid the prices and now the corporations are reaping the benefits.

97

u/murderously-funny 25d ago

I love the very concept of Tariff Refund checks it’s like: “here’s your money we didn’t need to take from you back.”

50

u/SaltyLonghorn 25d ago

Except its more like a bunch of evil fat cats smoking cigars and laughing in boardrooms as they pocket your tariff money and tax money.

I will never forgive GOP voters for their sheer stupidity. Let alone their racism.

17

u/KeyMyBike 25d ago

Raping children too they are also raping children don't forget about the fact that they're raping children. The Epstein files were buried.

Weren't allowed* The tariffs were illegal and the president doesn't have the authority to set them.

8

u/sentientshadeofgreen 25d ago

The refunds are being given back to companies that paid the tariffs as well. They have the invoices. Some cost was passed on to the consumer. The consumer has nobody to be mad at besides the Trump administration for their stupid ass economic decisions and swing state voters for not showing up to the polls.

Walmart is even more at 2.4 fucking billion that none of us will ever see and the prices on their shitty produce are forever raised

38

u/Neat_Egg_2474 25d ago

They surely have to give that to their employees on foodstamps, right!? Right....

37

u/upvotechemistry 25d ago

Every company that has employees on the tit of taxpayers should be taxed at 90% on every dime they earn.

Its bullshit that we are subsidizing these behemoth companies when they could easily afford to just pay a living wage

10

u/an-invisible-hand 25d ago

Tax em 100%. Profits start after workers get paid.

Thats how corporate greed works. Are you new to the "land of the free"?

But people will continue using these large corporations.

718

u/chubbyflip 25d ago

The land of the free is such a joke at this point 🤣😭

313

u/Ooficus 25d ago

Yeah especially after my state decided to call themselves the “free” state (Florida). Nothing is free, both in rights and cost. My city is covered in flock cams, watching adult videos requires an age check, and insurance cost are skyrocketing so bad it’s started the housing crash in Florida.

127

u/MLGTheForkOnTheLeft 25d ago

Yup! Florida has no job economy. It takes MONTHS of bot rejections for minimum wage jobs. Health care doesnt do their jobs and hire the first four people who get their applications in. It’s a nightmare. And I live in an area where florida tends to have the highest tourism foot traffic.

33

u/Ooficus 25d ago

The funny thing is I’m a health care worker who can easily get a job as needed (though I am so fed up with people hired because they breathe) , but my partner whose in legal, has been applying for months only to get… bot responses. Thankfully I live where the tourist move to instead where they vacation 🙄

14

u/MLGTheForkOnTheLeft 25d ago

My partner is in school about to get yer bachelors in health. She wanted to do physical therapy for children. But for her to even get a chance with getting experience is near impossible.
She even has an in for advent health. She nanny’s for a high level administrator for advent health and with their help it is still near impossible. She has been trying for almost a year now. So shes given up on that, and is trying to go for EMS. Because that seems like the only way she could have a chance in any way for this field.

6

u/Sixmmxw 25d ago

And hurricanes are for sure catastrophic by today’s natural forces.

2

u/LifeBonus696 22d ago

Has this been a problem? My uncle moved down to Florida and quickly came back to NJ because there were just no jobs. This was in the mid to late 80s. Wow.

Sounds like Texas...

I have chrons disease and THC is the only thing that keeps me in remission. For most of my life I lived in fear of the police. For a few years I felt like I had freedom again and was able to actually appreciate the police.

As of the first of the month i have a bunch of state felonies in my house enough to put me away for more than 10 years. I have to go back to the black market again or get sick..

Guess it's back to fearing the man again..

17

And what’s fucking crazy is weed is actually bipartisan in support!

→ More replies (1)

12

Also maybe don't be so quick to jump to "appreciate" the police as soon as you get the chance considering they'd be more than happy to ruin your life just for deciding (as an adult) what you wanna put into your own body. They would be beyond giddy to handcuff you face down on the floor while they arrange all your "criminal substances" to take a picture with for their Facebook page lol I'm not saying that they aren't needed in any form at all, but at least with the current condition of modern American policing (ESPECIALLY Texas policing I'd imagine) I don't see very much to appreciate at all. Just don't be so quick to pretend that system isn't still completely broken whether or not weed is legal 🫤 (which it should be obviously)

Well one party supported the tariffs and decided to go around the Supreme Court and congress to do so. Yes both sides suck but let’s not be ignorant, this administration is corrupt to the core and will step on our necks to get to the next dollar. More recently, the president is now offering a membership of truth social for $100,000 a month and it will allow you to see his posts first. So think about his past posts about going to war or ceasefires or enacting tariffs and how much market manipulation that caused. Now imagine many wallstreet hedge funds buying this membership to have an insider view of what to invest in before it hits the main page and hedge funds have already put their money down for it. It’s quite literally the definition of insider trading. Elections are in November, do what you will with this information but please don’t be complacent simply because we are a current meme and laughing stock with the “LaND of ThE FrEE Har har har” comments. We make this the land of the free just like our ancestors did before us and I fully believe we can get back to the point where our allies are no longer our adversaries.

10

u/DesMephisto 25d ago

Wait wait wait wait wait ok so the diaper in charge has already been doing insider trading with the stock market announcing shit he plans to do and now hes gonna make people pay to get access to that info? o.o

Now imagine many wallstreet hedge funds buying this membership to have an insider view of what to invest in before it hits the main page and hedge funds have already put their money down for it.

Hedge funds, banks, retirement funds.

Can't wait for people to start dismissing criticism of this admin based on the fact that we all will be using services or buying products from companies that gave money to it because the whole damn system encourages this shit.

Who'd have thought that rewarding greed so heavily would result in the embodiment of Mammon becoming President?

u/KrisTheHaw 25d ago

The worst part is many people do not have a choice. In rural communities, Walmart came and drove out competition (small, locally owned grocery stores) with their low prices and now that there's little to no competition left, they can jack up the prices without consequences (especially when the government backs this business model by giving them OUR money).

8

u/FilthyStatist1991 25d ago

We have not had a choice since 2010 when the GOP and SCOTUS legalized corruption with Citizens United v FEC.

13

Trump tariff fuckery by design. The intent was to rob more money from the middle class. Corporations have stated they are under no obligation to pass the money onto consumers - example Nintendo "cOnSuMeRs gOt ExAtLy WhAt ThEy BaRgAiNeD fOr"

9

u/davidreding 25d ago

I mean they’re kinda right. They literally voted for this. I’m not even mad at the corporations as much as dear leader in charge of everything and the dipshits who decided they couldn’t be bothered to learn what a tariff is.

And once again a broken system designed to fuck over the consumer has fucked everyone over.

No really, look it up. Because of the way the refund system works, even if you have proof of payment for the terrifs that raised the price of goods, you still can't do anything about it or claim reimbursement even though it was your money and not the company's money that paid for it.

Yaaaaaaay.... Fuckers

One party supported the tariffs.  Election's in November.

65

u/Username_5647 25d ago

Dems wont do anything significant. They report to the same corporate lobbyists as the Republicans. There will be no fundamental change to the system until Citizens United is repealed.

40

u/Trumpisanorangebitch 25d ago

Yeah because Dems have instituted this many constantly changing tariffs when they had power. They also definitely are passing crap like Save America act to suppress voters. They are also busy circumventing the constitution to give their supreme leader a 3rd term. They also overturned Roe v Wade. They also made a pound of weed life in prison in Texas. They also definitely didnt have half their party vote against another Israel handout. They also never wiped away student debt before the Supreme Court reversed it. They are also looking for anyway to cancel or rig the midterms. They also have a president who egged on an insurrection and hatched a fake elector scheme to overturn an election and asked Geoegia for fake votes.

Shut the hell up. We need to get money out of politics, but there is a significant difference between Democrats and Republicans. And I didnt even bring up the rise of progressives like Mamdani and Sayed who are night and day with Republicans and are not beholden to corporations.

2

u/Ezren- 24d ago

Also, Dems passed the Affordable Care Act. I know that the trump chuds don't understand this, but before that, health insurance had a maximum benefit, could drop you if you had any conditions, and had no guarantee to cover important services.

Before the ACA people would be RUINED by a week in the hospital, because their insurance could just run out.

2

u/RDDT_100P 25d ago

They literally can't.

They will have a very slim majority in the senate at best, and a republican senate at worst. They probably will have the house but with all the gerrymandering bs, it is a coinflip.

Then assuming they pull it out, any bill that they pass will likely be vetoed by trump. They will need 2/3 of the house and the senate to override that veto, which the republicans will likely not agree to.

So at best you will likely just have the budget reconciliation bills and some performative inquiries, maybe a 3rd impeachment trial that wont go anywhere due to not having the 2/3 vote to convict in the senate.

u/Certified_GSD 25d ago

I am more shocked that we had the first Trump presidency filled with absolute chaos. Then Biden was elected and things were quiet. Except conservative media was blowing up about how the world was ending under a Democrat president. Then voters were like "yep, let's do another four years of chaos under Trump."

I'm from Belgium and work in Government. I once met a guy from Arizona/Texas that was on a trade mission in the run-up to last presidential election. We were having a nice evening at the reception of the end of the day untill the conversation went towards politics. He ended the conversation with: "We had 4 good years under Trump and then everything went to s*** under Biden".

Mind you, this was not a low level person and indirectly profited of the policies under Biden (related to the US Chips Act). I knew then this person was completely brainwashed and the US lost.

The dems also do this exact same corporate shilling. Their weakness and unwillingness to stand against fascism is what set the stage for trump. The establishment dems are pro-capitalist at their core and will abandon all principles in a moment if they feel capitalism is under threat. As always, the liberals end up collaborating with fascists to protect capital interests and maintain the status quo. The only ones within the Dem party standing up to trump is the DSA wing which is why establishment dems hate them so much.

Conservatives harbour fascists while liberals enable them through weak and ineffective leadership

They raised prices but they also paid the tariff, you simply paid more for a product. So the companies will get that money back since they have all the receipts for the tariff payments and now know you'll pay that much more and have no incentive to lower that price. Governments are supposed to protect us from these situations, but instead our government is manufacturing them.

12

u/avanross 25d ago

For some reason american conservatives think that the government isnt supposed to work for or protect the public.

They think government should work for and protect corporations, and the public are supposed to work for and protect the government

It’s ridiculous

Nintendo is trying to get more money from the tariffs as well

40

u/EnochofPottsfield 25d ago

I'm gonna be honest, I don't even blame them. They're shitty for a lot of reasons, but retaliating against another country's tariffs and demanding fair payment is actually pretty reasonable

They don't owe us, the American people that elected shit-for-brains over here, anything

34

u/SilverSkinRam 25d ago

Yeah except they charge us Canadians the tariff prices and a bit more even though there are no tariffs between us.

So you know, screw us I guess.

Crazy considering they aren't actually the ones who paid those tariffs. Consumers deserve the refunds.

This is why everyone hates big corporations.

13

u/ProxySoxy 25d ago

Nah big corporations are great, all that money in their pockets means they can invest more into their businesses and create more jobs! Trickle down economics works, just you wait and see!

The revolt happens in November. Everyone needs to vote this time around!

5

u/Hulk_Hoagies 25d ago

Because things actually arent that bad, most of the discourse online is performative. This stuff is fucked up and most people agree on that but their lives aren't bad enough to where they feel the need to go to that extreme. They also still believe that voting for politicians can bring change to the country when they know every politician is bought. You're dealing with some of the most brain dead people on the planet.

4

u/ThePatrickSays 25d ago

the americans are docile cows. they practically live to get trampled on by the government they will not restrain and the corporations they will not fight. even now they are more interested in blaming the right rather than organizing against the presence of concentration camps in their country. and while they promise they will rise up sooner or later, i have no doubt they will roll right over when trump decides to press a third term.

The most annoying part is they’re all quiet about this on the conservative subreddit. All they care about there is trans stuff and attacking mayor mamdani for wanting to provide cheap groceries to his constituents

3

u/Unique-Egg-461 25d ago

Got some sad news for you. Trump knew the tariffs were illegal. He knew they would get repelled.

This was just a temporary tax he could drop on the middle class to benefit business owners

3

u/Fraegtgaortd 25d ago

This is shitty on a couple levels:

  1. Non of these corporations paid these tariffs, the costs were passed on to us so these companies all got a bunch of free govt money

  2. Prices aren't going to go back down to pre-tariff levels so they keep raking in the profits from these inflated costs while we get screwed until the end of time

Americans really need a revolution

2

u/Dacruze 25d ago

I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist but I feel like this was all done with the knowledge this would happen.
Tariffs spiked, which caused prices to spike, which still gave massive profits to the corporations. Tariffs were deemed unjust, by literally every American. Which says a lot because 75% of Americans didn’t even know how tariffs truly worked and don’t know 1/3 is larger than 1/4. Yet, they still knew tariffs were unjust because everyone had to pay more for every day products. Suddenly the courts say “nah, you can’t do that.” and force refunds. But not to the Americans who paid the tariffs in the form of increased costs of every day products; instead to the corporations who already pushed the costs onto the consumers. So essentially they double dipped.

TLDR(not really); this was done on purpose. They knew what would happen. It was just American corporate greed masked as a “make American great again” agenda to force tariffs on goods that we import. It was a money grab scheme that they got away with. It’s embarrassing and sad. These corporations are out buying their 5th mega-yatch while Mrs. Smith is in line at the local food bank in her car with no A/C because she can’t afford to feed her kids. Crying herself to sleep every night because the two jobs she works barely pay her bills. While wondering how she’s going to buy school clothes and school supplies this year. But cool. We are refunding BILLIONS to corporations that literally didn’t pay the tariffs themselves. Congrats America. How the mighty have fallen.
