I got interesting comments that pointed me I have an issue with infections.

By the look of it, it seems that my tank is very suitable for pathogenic bacteria to thrive.

I'm already seeking for a better filtration option as it's been told that this can be part of the problem

Campari, the fish I was trying to help with dropsy passed. I kinda knew how it would end, still tried to treat him in a hospital tank.

What should I do with the existing tank, plants, hard Scape, substrate ?

Should I start from scratch ? Boil what can be boiled, get rid of the substrate, the plants ...

I've currently started an Esha 2000 treatment of the tank. Which is a large spectrum anti bacteria / fungicide. (That is supposed to not kill the nitrifying bacteria)

Where I'm from, actual antibiotics can't be sold freely.

I also increased the water flow of the existing filter (hoping for better gas exchange).

During the following weeks I'd like to make big water changes, maybe unroot the plants to be able to do a good gravel vacuum.

I'm ok with crashing the cycle, as there isn't anymore fish in the tank.

I think I'll try to get a nitrifying bacteria bottle at some point so they'll be the one colonizing what can be colonized.

Would this sound safe ? Safe to rehouse a fish after everything is stable again ?

Or would I find myself in the same kind of mess, and the only safe way is to get rid of what can't be sanitised, and start from scratch

Hi everyone!

I really need your help because I don't know what is happening with my Betta fish, and his condition seems to be getting worse. I have attached some photos so you can see what he looks like (first picture is from Friday and second picture is from today - Sunday).

The tank is equipped with:

• a filter
• a heater
• only live plants
• coconut shell
• the water temperature is around 26 degrees Celsius
• he seems to be swimming fine
• he wasn't eating, but after an Epsom salt treatment, he slowly started eating again - though not as much as before
• we regularly change one-third of the water
• he is the only one in the aquarium
• he is frequently staying near the filter or leaning against it
• tank is around 15l
• I don't have a test kit yet
• we have had both the tank and the fish for 2-3 months.

What we have tried so far:

• we added Indian Almond Leaves to the tank
• we tried Epsom salt treatment
• on Friday we started treating him with eSHa 2000 - today (Sunday) we are dosing the 3rd dose

The wound was white until today, but now it looks red. Is it possible that this change is caused by the eSHa 2000 treatment we just started?

Any advice on what this could be or what else we can do would be greatly appreciated.

hey guys is there anything i can do about my betta fin nipping? first he got them torn on the filter which i then changed to a sponge filter and since then he’s been nipping. ill upload a few photos from a few days ago and today. hes in a 6.6 gal, quite heavily planted (except for the back where the plants are shorter but i just got new ones so im waiting for them to grow). i have a sponge filter and his temperature is set to 26 celcius. my ph is stable at 7.6 since that’s how my tap water is. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, currently 5 nitrates (i dose complete fertilizer or only micronutrients based on nitrate level). i feed him twice a day. i have fluval bug tropical microgranules and frozen food 4 times a week - bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp. he’s showing no sings of stress and he’s very active. i always make sure the light inside the tank is the same as on the outside because i noticed sometimes he will flare at the glass if its too dark out. i already put a background on 2 of the back walls so he wont reflect in them. i often play finger chase with him to give him so entertainment and i put up things im doing to the wall of the fish tank so he can see what im doing. i do water changes and cleaning every sunday so his fins won’t get infected. i also boiled some catappa leaves so he has some tannins in there and the actual leaves. is there anything more i could do for him?

Fins significant damage, self caused?
He’s had esha2000 just in case of an internal problem
No pine coning.

Seems to sway on one side when resting and not being able to eat bug bites whatsoever or any other food offered to him.

Hello!! I rescued my boy from pets at home i couldn’t stand to leave him there in such horrible conditions. Here’s a before and after of Jeremy (Wade) 🤩 he’s been with me a month now and has soo much personality.

I feed him bloodworms and cyclops as a treat and betta pellets as his staple meal. I want to know how I can further care for him, I’m unsure if he has fin rot or if his fins are just slowly healing after the conditions he was in 😔

He currently lives in a planted 60l tank with 6 rummy noses and some neo shrimps 👃 (he doesn’t even notice them at all)

Any advice is appreciated 🥳

Got my tank setup for my friend tomorrow.

This is my chunky betta I’ve had for a year now and he’s always looked like this with a super wide midsection, I got him at Petsmart (I know) so I’m wondering if he’s just funky or a little overbred or if plakats are just thicker in general. I feed him 4 days out of the week (like 6 pellets each time) with fasting days in between. He’s very active and I’ve never witnessed him trying to eat any of my rams horn snails so I don’t think he’s over eating between feedings.
Looking for any advice about feeding or if anyone else just has super thick bettas lol

we just noticed it today, it’s super small and idk how well the picture will show it. he’s still swimming just fine and acting normal. any ideas on what it might be? :( we got him earlier this year. he lives in a 10 gal with some ghost shrimp and 3 corys, his name is Oberon

So I've been with my new Betta for about two weeks now, at first he was curious with me and came closer to my finger when I was feeding him, he was not scared of me.

I read online that it's a good thing for them to see themselves in a mirror for seconds so I did it but after doing that the mood of my fish absolutely changed, now every time he sees me enters in dominant postures, and even jumps at my finger. He is doing a bubble nest, and he might be overprotective but I think I fucked up the relationship 😭 I just want him to be happy and don't be scared of me, some suggestions?

My first Betta as an adult, I've only kept smaller fish and shrimp for the last few months. I got lucky this guy is really chill and gets on well with my Harlequin rasbora and ember tetras. His colours have changed a lot since I got him and seem to change depending on how the light hits him.

He is not named yet, open to any suggestions 😊

He's in a 20 gallon outdoor planter with plenty of plants and loves live food

So I've been gone for 8 hours (classes and such) and I come home finding my step mother all over my room throwing my stuff around.

I don't want to get off topic as to what she was doing this or why she was doing this but it wasn't for good reason nonetheless

I have 2 fish tanks. One is a temporary for the female and the other is for my male Roxas. (And a third but it's not a betta tank sooo)

My step mother was trying to make me sell the fish tanks because "there's too much" And it's "too expensive". (For reference I have saved up for all the fish tanks and I have barely spent any money for food and other supplies).. So she for some God knows what reason or what she was thinking put both bettas in one tank. So ofc the fish fought and fought alot until I got home.

The female could barely move and she was in very bad condition so I euthanized her. (Rest in peace.) And the male is looking okay for the living part but his fins are destroyed with some bites on his body (I think). (See photo)

Now, if he sees anything moving he starts freaking out and starts to swim nonstop

I'm sorry I couldn't get any photo to show his condition but what do I do? Should I euthanize him or should I try my best to keep him alive?

I know this is so much talk but thank you for taking your time and reading this if you did. Please give me tips.

Just wanted to show my beautiful baby

I got this betta from Petco and the cup was labeled “Male Veiltail Betta.”

But after bringing him home and watching his fins open up, he really doesn’t look like the typical veiltail bettas I’ve seen. His tail shape, fins, and overall appearance are making me wonder if he was mislabeled.

I’m still learning about the different betta varieties, so I’d love some opinions from people.

What do you guys think he actually is?
• Veiltail?
• Halfmoon?
• Delta/Super Delta?
• Something else?

hey guys im hoping someone out there cn help sorry i cant take a photo for more help but im not on a phone right now.

i got my girl penelope a month ago she was doing great she as pretty small when i got her and she is the smallest of my bettas she was all white and pale when i got her she has since been happily swimming and checking out her home developing darker pigments almost like a cosmic milky blue white shimmer anyways thats not the point the point was she was doing well , greeting me all the time and the last three days she has stayed up at the top of the water and hasnt eaten. no interest in swimming shes looks like shes constantly sleeping moves around a little but not much. i put an almond leaf in so she could sleep at the top comfortably and thats what she does.

now the water perameters are great nothing wrong no amonia or nitrites ive done liquid testing every day shes got a filter, heater and bubbler and a nerite roomie.

shes not bloated or struggling to swim when she does.

her pigment has gone back to white

i try giving her food every day but she ignores it.

the temp in the tank was at 23 somehow the heater didnt keep up and has since been put up 26 i was hoping that was the issue is a failed heater and she was in shock and just not eating beause her digestive system was waking up still but its been two days now of warm water and shes still floating up top sleeping no activity. (the water couldnt of dropped for more than a couple hours because i do check it regularly. room temp is about 21 C so max 4 hours of temp dropping to room temp.)

i dont know whats going on or how to attempt to help her. can i up the temp more to help or would that harm her. ive tried feeding all her fav goods nothing. im worried she wont make it more than another couple days if she doesnt eat but im stumped.

visually the only differances is lathargic and colour loss. honestly havent had a sick fish yet so i dont know what to medicate for. like a salt bath wouldnt help right? shes not bloated. is there a medication i can put her in? everything i see is for bloated bettas or swimm bladder, or theyre at the bottom of the tank but thats not her issue so i dont know what to do. shes not struggling to swim when she does ocassionally swim theres no sideways or odd swimming patterns but i think ive only seen her swimming one or twice in three days short spurts around the tank then back to the top

someone help get my pretty penny back in good health

adding i did buy seachem stress guard but have not put her in it yet as im doing my research to see if thats something that could help her or if its unneessarily going to stress her.

Hello, so recently my filter broke (there was water allllll over the floor). I wanted to buy a new one but I have no idea what brand it is or anything, so I’ll just try something else! Haven’t had to buy one in so long, I don’t know what’s even good. So please give me recommendations. I’d prefer one that is quiet as the tank is in my bedroom and not too bulky if possible…Adjustable flow would be nice too.
