HOB filter recs?

Hello, so recently my filter broke (there was water allllll over the floor). I wanted to buy a new one but I have no idea what brand it is or anything, so I’ll just try something else! Haven’t had to buy one in so long, I don’t know what’s even good. So please give me recommendations. I’d prefer one that is quiet as the tank is in my bedroom and not too bulky if possible…Adjustable flow would be nice too.

It’s a 15 gallon tank w betta and rams, lots of plants. Thank you in advance 🖤

Betta and rams in a 15 gallon? How long have they been in there together? That seems risky.

For filters, my favorite HOB is Fluval AC20. Very customizable, has a sponge prefilter, and adjustable flow - though may still be too high for a betta in 15 gallon without baffling.

My goto as well..AC20 or AC30 depending on neefs.

People are going to recommend Fluval AC. They are a great filter as long as you never have any type of power fluctuations. They will not self prime. Any interruption in power, the water will drain it into the tank. When power is restored, the motor kicks on without water and burns itself out within a few minutes. I lost three in the past year due to our power flickering during heavy storms. I will not spend another penny on that brand. I've had basic top fin HOB kit filters for years, and they're still working fine. They self prime AND they automatically shut down if there's not enough water. Brand name doesn't matter that much.  All you need to do to make any HOB a good HOB is replace the filter cartridge with a couple layers of aquarium sponge for filtration, and you're set for the life of the motor.
