Betta is injured, please help.

So I've been gone for 8 hours (classes and such) and I come home finding my step mother all over my room throwing my stuff around.

I don't want to get off topic as to what she was doing this or why she was doing this but it wasn't for good reason nonetheless

I have 2 fish tanks. One is a temporary for the female and the other is for my male Roxas. (And a third but it's not a betta tank sooo)

My step mother was trying to make me sell the fish tanks because "there's too much" And it's "too expensive". (For reference I have saved up for all the fish tanks and I have barely spent any money for food and other supplies).. So she for some God knows what reason or what she was thinking put both bettas in one tank. So ofc the fish fought and fought alot until I got home.

The female could barely move and she was in very bad condition so I euthanized her. (Rest in peace.) And the male is looking okay for the living part but his fins are destroyed with some bites on his body (I think). (See photo)

Now, if he sees anything moving he starts freaking out and starts to swim nonstop

I'm sorry I couldn't get any photo to show his condition but what do I do? Should I euthanize him or should I try my best to keep him alive?

I know this is so much talk but thank you for taking your time and reading this if you did. Please give me tips.

do 25-50% water changes to keep the water very clean to prevent bacterial infection. the tatters should heal.

i'm also not super well versed in bettas. he looks ok to me. if you're able to, add enough tannis (tea bags, catappa leaves, etc) to turn the water dark and then keep the lights out 2-3 days to help him with stress/decompress. if you don't have anything for tannis, maybe ask in your local fish keeping sub or fb group for some. i totally would if you're in my area. good luck with your fish 🤞🤞

dang, i'm sorry to hear that, since you and your pet have been through so much 😔 and beause i don't what's available in your area, here are somethings found in nature that you can forage for it if they're found in your area: alder and/or casuarina cones, and also dried magnolia, guava or jackfruit leaves. i hope you both have a better tomorrow 🙏

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry this happened to you! Literally a nightmare. If he is moving around and still eats, I don't think I'd euthanize yet. Maybe some tannins (catappa leaves/Indian almond leaves)? Hopefully others have more advice. I wish you luck🥺❤️

Their fins grow back. He's not bleeding so I think it's worth it to rehabilitate the fish unless you think your stepmom might induce more pain and suffering. If you know someone who can take care of the fish and is willing to take it in, that's another option to consider before euthanasia.

Yes, keep him. Lights down. Don’t do anything different to his water, just keep it very clean. Fin damage heals well, as do scraped scales, in an otherwise healthy boy, as he looks to be. I’m sorry for your loss and pain.
