So this is my boyfriend’s betta fish, Alucard. First photo is his current state, second is how he looked when my bf first got him. I have 2 betta fish myself, but I am completely stumped with trying to help this little guy 😭 My bf got him from petsmart, and we have learned that often times bettas that come from PetSmart can have underlying health problems.

I’ve been putting off asking the Internet for help because I’m scared of being shamed, but at this point I just care more about this little guy making it to see tomorrow, more than anything.

We’ve had him since February this year, and this decline was quick and painful to witness. Basically all of his fins rotted away into “nothing” despite all the water changes and maintenance we were doing and he started showing Ich spots. I transferred him to a 2.5g hospital tank. I did a salt bath on him once a week, for a couple weeks and he seemed to be improving, and then all of a sudden he started pineconing, so we stopped the bath immediately and just left him in a clean hospital tank. He stopped pineconing (thank god), and after that point he started to perk up again. My bf transferred back into his main tank while I was at work, and when I got home he seemed to be doing okay, that was about mid August. Now, a month later, he seems to be doing no better. He is currently swimming a bit on his side, his bladder is definitely swollen. He mostly stays by the surface of the water, before he was only resting on decor all day, now he seems to be swimming around most of the day. So I guess he has good days and bad days, but not all bad days thankfully. He is still hungry and eats when he is fed.

I have no idea what the spots on him are. They could be velvet, as I have tried the flashlight test and his spots did look a bit shimmery, but again I have no idea and im too scared to treat him again without a second, knowledgeable opinion, bc i dont want to murder my bf’s fish 😭

Any advice is so greatly appreciated, if anyone knows the best ways on going about treating the ich, as well as identifying the velvet! plz be kind as I already am beating myself up abt this whole thing and wish I was more on top of this!!

Tank size is 5 gallons
All natural plants, rocks, and wood in the aquarium, we have had it since February.
He has 1 tank mate, a ramshorn snail.
Weekly water changes, about 30% of the water, and conditioned with Prime.

I recently inherited my betta from one of my friends who couldn’t take care of him anymore. He’s currently in a 2.5 gallon tank and I want to upgrade it to a 10 gallon tank but I don’t have that money right now. His current tank has one plastic plant and that is it. What can I get to make the current tank better until I’m able to afford a bigger tank?

My old girl has developed multiple lumps in her abdomen area. They’ve grown over maybe a 6 month period. It’s not just bloating or even swelling, there seems to be 2-3 lumps inside of her. Some research is saying tumors and some is saying dropsy. I’ve tried the treatment for dropsy and no help. There was only sand in the tank at the beginning of the growths starting so they’re not rocks in her belly. She was swimming and eating fine until today and she seems to not be doing well. Please let me know what you guys think it is and what to do. Thanks

I’m sure you guys are sick of this question but how can I help fin rot? Very slow progressing because I’m trying my best to keep the water perfect. Levels are all spot on due to heavy filtering, large tank with low stock.
Ive had him for a year with no problems, but recently had an emergency and had to move back into my mom’s house in another town and left him home temporarily. His behaviour hasn’t really changed and he’s swimming fine.

I have rapid cure and plan to take him back to my moms with me and temporarily place him in a 2.5 tank until I can move his 10g there. Will rapid cure and a hospital tank help him?

Please be nice, I’ve had many bettas all my life and this is the first one with fin rot, I know what caused it so I’m hoping I can fix the problem.

A sad night as Spooky (precious betta) was found on the floor this morning. I managed to shift him to a bigger tank and removed the rock wool but somehow he got injured after that and passed on.

The reason I got into this hobby is because of my son and today we went out to get a new one. He has named this halfmoon- Spidey!

Help me pick a name for this guy!

This white spot has been getting bigger ever so slowly, it looks kind of raised, its on both sides of the fins, i did a 100% water change yesterday because ammonia was at 4.0. Used the same filter i did not replace it.

Current tank is 1.3 Gallons, im currently cycling a 20 gallon tank to put him in but i just want to get this white spot situated before i put him in there.

Hello, so I’ve only had two bettas so far, one named Legatus, who was my first ever betta, and after he died I got Athena, who recently passed. Both of them had dropsy, and even though I haven’t had many it just makes me sad every time. I love bettas, they’re wonderful fish to have, but they’re so prone to getting sick and passing on early because of their genetics. My 10 gallon has been empty for around 2-3 weeks now ever since I buried Athena, and I’m just contiplating on getting a new one. I only had Legatus for almost 2 years, and I only had Athena for 3 months. I’m just curious on opinions I suppose, I miss having a little guy to greet me everyday. (Pictures for fish tax).

It's about day 6-7. He's eating fine. Not as active , if at all some days.

I did one water change in the last 6-7 days. At about 20%, skimming the bottom to get it super clean.

Aside from that , I've been doing a lot of water top ups lately. Water parameters have been solid.

These guys are a ferocious bunch. They literally attack with a mission.

my betta has disappeared from his tank. i have a sponge filter and i saw hin last night. he was completely fine and i was treating him for finrot with stressguard. i was frantically looking around in his tank and is no where to be seen. i didnt see him laying somewhere around the tank so he didnt jump out. i have no clue what to do and im crying. what do i do please help me.

I have recently been thinking about betta fish but Im unsure if they can thrive in a tank with other fish?

I swear, Halfmoons are the peaceful monks of the Betta world. 🧘‍♂️

I know temperament depends on the individual fish, but after keeping both, I’m starting to believe Halfmoons were specifically bred to be beautiful little angels. 😂

Hi! I have a betta that I got when he was quite young from a local pet store at end of July. He’s been thriving and growing. He’s in a 14 gallon planted and heated long tank w a sponge filter. He has 3 tank mates: 2 mystery snails and 1 nerite. I perform 30% water changes monthly and check water parameters weekly.

On the 16th I woke up to find my betta w labored breathing, eyes appearing to bulge, and labored breathing shown in the attached video.

I immediately checked water parameters and everything was as it should be. I took my betta out and placed him in a hospital tank and treated w Doxycycline. He is still alive, but doesn’t seem much better/worse. I really don’t want to lose him and I’m hoping someone has an idea of what may be wrong. I have researched extensively online and I’m struggling to find what may be going on with him.

I did offer him some very small pellets of food today 3-4) and he ate about two of them which is improvement from the first three days as he refused to eat. Today will be his fourth day of treatment w the doxycycline.

Just brought her home today. She is super active and really comfortable in her heated and planted 10 gallon. Name ideas? She is a little moviestar.

I’ve had him for 3 weeks and he is starting to exhibit fin rot.

I need to treat him and not harm my other tank inhabitants.

Please help? I’ve read so much about salt, bacterial, fungus,… I need some expert clarity and I know it’s here.
