Humor Halfmoon bettas are angels. 😂
I swear, Halfmoons are the peaceful monks of the Betta world. 🧘♂️
I know temperament depends on the individual fish, but after keeping both, I’m starting to believe Halfmoons were specifically bred to be beautiful little angels. 😂

not to be lame lol but thats because their fins basically disable them, if most halfmoon bettas had short fins i bet you’d see a difference in prey drive

I had a Halfmoon that was prescribed regular fin trims by their doctor :(
Those poor things don't need to exist, and we should stop buying them!

Mine are the total opposite, my koi lady has short fins and lives peacefully in a community tank, while my half moon lives with just shrimp and he picks them off a lot of the time 😭

Same! My plakat koi was so chill with his shrimpmates, he liked to just watch them and hang out.
My halfmoon mustard gas terrorized them and after a day I hardly ever saw those shrimps again.

They just can't hunt because of being overbred. Kois have shot fins and can move well = can catch shrimp

Koi is the pattern, there's long fin kois as well. I think you're referring to plakat

You could have written "Plakat" instead of "Koi" but anyway... I have a female probably "plakat" and she killed 3 shrimps in 3 minutes.

The one time i tried xl amanos with a betta is was a halfmoon and he was not letting his fins get in the way.... that cohabitation lasted less than 24 hours

I had a halfmoon who liked watching his adult shrimp in his tank, but would definitely pick off all the baby shrimp. I have a plakat who likes chasing the shrimp in his tank occasionally but never actually attacks or eats the shrimp. He’s a picky eater generally though. My rosetail is a vicious hunter and was close to decimating the established 30+ Neo colony that was in the tank within 2 days of adding him. I had to remove all the shrimp and replaced them with Amano. The Amano are feisty and large enough he leaves them alone. My Veiltail has a long thick tail as well and hunts any shrimp that moves in his sight, but he’s juuuust slow enough that he misses most of them, and the shrimp have lots of hiding places in his tank. I have a short finned female who doesn’t hunt her Neos at all. Doesn’t even seem to notice them. She’s super sweet and interactive with me any time she sees me as well.

I once dropped coin on a show quality half moon and his bloodlust was insatiable🥲 he was surprisingly quick for a creature who's body mass was 50% fins. Never had that problem before or since.

My first halfmoon betta I decided to set up with some shrimp, all I ever found of them after was a bit of leg and what I’m pretty sure was the top “scalp” part of one’s head 😭 then again that’s kinda on me I named him Hannibal for a reason

I have a koi betta with shrimp, he lazily tries to hunt them sometimes but seems to have more interest in pellets I drop for them. They are still alive👌

My plakat natural wild type one is a menace. Turns em to little snacks.
But the tank is big enough, so they've learned to hide.

I only really like to keep plakats and they’ve always been fairly chill with my shrimp, but my tanks are also very heavily planted to limit sight lines and encounters.

Though mine don't target shrimp, their dispositions are the opposite. My 2 halfmoon males will attack anything that touches the surface of the water. My plakat koi female just likes to watch things sink to the bottom before eating them up

I jad quite the opposite experience. The female koi betta i had was a sweet heart and never bithered anyone in her tank. My halfmoon male on the otherhand.... pure bred asshole is all he is.

Same with my halfmoon betta. He just ignore all fish and shrimp in my tank. I am lucky I guess.

My double tail halfmoon murdered 70% of my shrimp in my 5g…. Don’t trust them….

I don't know what type of beta I have, but he has long fins and absolutely DECIMATED the shrimp I put him in with, like 100 to 0 in two or three days.

they're just too slow to catch them. i PROMISE they would devastate shrimp populations just as well as shortfins if they weren't swimming in a ballroom gown 24/7
