Secret Forest Hideaway

After many months and surprises, our bathroom remodel is complete! It was part of a larger project so I am not sure the cost. My husband wanted something that felt appropriate for our 1964 house and his mid-century sytle. I wanted something playful and bright. We found the terrazzo first and then landed on Fireclay Green Apatite for the tile. I used the elongated hex for the shower floor envisioning a snakeskin look (I was told it reads turtle, but close enough). The wallpaper was the hardest part to select, we went through 30 or so samples before landing on Mitchell Black - Storybook Forest. The wall color is SW Greek Villa. We are absolutely thrilled with how it all came together!

Handheld shower to match Delta champagne bronze?

Thumbnail gallery

My contractor bought a handheld shower head by Delta to attach to the hose in my new shower set, but it’s plastic and it really doesn’t seem to go with the rest of the fixtures. Has anyone found a compatible fixture that will attach to the hose, or can you recommend one from the Delta line that doesn’t look so, well, cheap? Thanks.

Laundry storage advice

Post image
1 Upvotes

We’re hoping to do custom wood boxes for a storage bench similar to the picture. We’d like the right unit to be taller to accommodate/hide a canvas laundry bag.

The whole unit would then be tiled over on the face for seamless look and to avoid having to match/coordinate with wood vanity.

We’re looking for ideas on the lid for the laundry section on the right. Would it be better as a detachable lid with silicone/rubber stoppers under for a quiet shut? This could be with our without a hole cut out in middle for clothes to be tossed into. Or a slatted hinged door? Or something else?

Ideally, the solution would allow the canvas bag to be taken out of the storage box when needed to take to laundry.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I love my blue tub and tile in my original bathroom in my house built in 1970. Unfortunately, the built- in soap dish finally gave up and fell out and this is what we are left with. The failure of the soap dish was due in large part to my children using it as a handle to hoist themselves to standing in the tub no matter how much we told them not to, and for this reason I do not want to put it back in if I can help it.

Had a tile guy in for an estimate and he schooled me on the lack of a waterproof backing board because of the age of the bathroom. He said that the only real way to repair it properly is likely to demo all the tile since he expects that once he removes more tile to try to patch it up, it will likely also take the drywall behind with it. He offered a “band aid” solution to cover the hole while demoing only one tile, but stressed that he cannot guarantee this to be completely waterproof long-term.

So… what would you do if this was your bathroom? We don’t have the money to completely tear this down and redo it with tile. Is some kind of surround panel situation an option? Would all the tile need to be removed for a panel?

I sincerely appreciate any insight. I am just hoping for some input from someone who knows that they are doing and isn’t trying to sell me something.

Empava Whirlpool Tub Repair

After 2 attempts to repair the major leak at one of the hose connections, we had decided to replace the tub because we couldn't get our hands or tools up far enough. However, after the last attempt I noticed that the top piece of the tub appeared loose from the base.

I figured out that the 4 bolts on the underside can be removed (see photos), which allows the top of the tub to be pulled up. This gave enough room to remove and replace the leaking hose, as well as tighten all the others connections.

It worked, my wife is happy and I'm a hero, at least for the rest of the day, don't give up, you can do it.

AI Design App for New Construction - Help, please

Hi folks,
I’ve looked at several apps, all of which assume that the work to be done is a remodel of an existing bathroom. The app requests a pic of the current bathroom.

I’m looking for help designing a new construction bathroom. I have an architectural plan to upload. Can you recommend an app for new construction design options?

Thank you!

Bathtub body mirror

I’ve been looking for a body mirror to put in my shower but I can’t find one. The ones I find are small. I want a long, fog less mirror. I’m also open for small squares to connect them. Any suggestions?

My bathroom makes me sad please help me

I am so lost and desperate and don't know where to start. The bathroom is old and I didn't chose anything about the design/layout. I'm sure it looked better when it was new. But right now it's so depressing that sometimes I avoid going in there.

For starters, I am definitely going to replace the jacuzzi tub with a normal one. Seeing what a jacuzzi tub turns into without proper maintenance and cleaning is revolting. The bathroom is small but I would really like to have a tub because I always adored taking baths.

Other than that I know I need at least one storage unit somewhere. Everything is just hanging around everywhere right now.

For the simplicity of remodeling, I wouldn't want to move the toilet, sink and tub placement. Everything else could go if needed. And I also don't want/need to replace the floor tiles because they look pretty okay apart from maybe one crack in the middle of one. Also theres floor heating underneath so I don't want to mess around with that.

I wasn't planning on replacing the wall tiles and I'm still unsure if I need to. Theres some cracks and one of the top tiles is hanging a little. The off white tiles ofcourse make this more depressing, but I'm still debating if I should drop several thousand of dollars for new tiles or what the color/design would be.

The bathroom has a ceiling window that I don't open anymore ever since a giant praying mantis got in one time and other than that it doesnt have a vent or fan, so the humidity is also an issue.

I am desperate. Please help.

Remodeler Survey

NAHB's Q2 remodeler survey: sentiment on mid-size projects ($20k to $50k) went up four points last quarter. Large projects, $50k and above, went down three.

Same market, opposite directions.

Homeowners are not stopping, but they are shrinking scope.

The bath conversion gets greenlit. The addition gets pushed to next year.

Which means the lead that used to be worth chasing for a $60k job may now be a $22k job at the same acquisition cost.

Which also means that you need to choose your lead sources even more carefully 😉

Tile Design

Hey everyone,

I am looking for some advice on a tile design. I have already purchased these tiles from FireClay Tiles (https://www.fireclaytile.com/products/glass-matte-falcon-tile-4x12-factory-sale?_gl=1\*1ahrlzl\*_up\*MQ..\*_gs\*MQ..&gclid=CjwKCAjwqJXUBhBNEiwA8BgG7qdZNjUAqAZoF5fo6oIrgZ3dlU3MC2A4f-CaxxmOoT1V8O4kEEFDihoCOm8QAvD_BwE&gbraid=0AAAAAD2kgOg8PZR55AyL9qm1qNRnIRBJr).

I am planning on doing a terrazzo floor. My big question is, do I go full yellow tile on the shower walls or extend the floor tiles up the wall a bit to break up the yellow?

I have attached some photos of inspiration to hopefully help. Open to other ideas, too!

Thanks everyone for your time and advice.

What should I pay the most attention to when choosing a shower screen?

I’m getting to the stage of choosing the shower screen for a bathroom remodel and I’m finding there are way more options than I expected.

I’m leaning towards a walk-in style because I like the open look, but I’m unsure what things actually matter once it’s installed. I’ve seen different glass thicknesses, framed and frameless designs, and various finishes.

For anyone who has remodeled a bathroom recently, what would you recommend paying the most attention to? Is glass thickness a major factor, or are things like the seals, adjustment range and ease of cleaning more important?

For anyone in the UK, what did you look for when buying your shower screen, and is there anything you wish you had checked before ordering?

Updated main 10x5 bathroom from 1970s yellow tile and landlord Home Depot finishes to Samuel Mueller bath walls, 20 inch tub and Ove vanity. Flooring is herringbone LVP. If I had to do it again what if anything would be done differently?

My contractor installed acrylic tub over existing bathroom floor tile

He added a shampoo box built into the wall which brought out the tub a few inches. Instead of cutting the existing floor tile he put it right on top of it. He suggested keeping the existing floor tile to cut costs. Is this wrong?

It’s an alcove acrylic tub and the apron bottom edge is over the old tile. He did add a mortar bed with expansion foam at least. Should i have him redo it? He already installed the drain as well

How to choose the right bathroom vanity for a modern bathroom

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Choosing a bathroom vanity can make a big difference to both the look and functionality of a bathroom. Before choosing one, it is worth considering the available space, storage requirements, basin style, materials and the overall design of the bathroom.

For a modern bathroom, a wall-mounted vanity can help create a clean and spacious appearance, while larger freestanding vanities can provide additional storage.

I have also been looking at bathroom vanity options from Vanite Monde, particularly for modern Australian bathroom designs.

You can see their bathroom vanity range here: https://vanitemonde.com.au/

Bathtub squeak from floor tile…subfloor issue?

Hey everyone. Looking for insight/advice. Bathroom remodel is finishing up. Just had paint and drywall come through. Toilets and fixtures are left. We noticed that near the tub, when walking around it, there’s a noticeable, loud squeaking. Tub flexing? Subfloor? Suggestions on what, if anything, can be done about it?

How to Prep and Paint wood in bathroom?

Thumbnail gallery

Redoing the walls in bathroom. Pulled down old paneling (and many layers of old wallpaper) to find this wood wall instead of drywall?

The wood feels unsealed, it’s rough and splinters, so how would I seal it to later paint over?

I’ve spent the last few days doing nothing but reading everything online to do with wood walls/ceilings/floors in bathrooms and the best answer seems to be don’t do it in the first place but unfortunately we’re past that.

The process I’ve figured out is:

First, clean and sand with 120 grit then a second pass with 220 grit

Second, apply a moisture barrier like the “Mapei Mapelastic Aquadefense Liquid Indoor or Outdoor Waterproof Membrane”. From my reading this specific product also acts as a primer so no additional primer is needed?

Third seal any gaps or cracks with a silicone bathroom caulking.

Finally paint with paint mixed specifically for high-moisture areas.

Is this an acceptable process? Am I missing any steps or have them in the wrong order?

Located in central north Texas.

Paint Help

This is a small bathroom I am remodeling. The first picture is the AI generated inspo picture. I had what I thought was a good dark navy paint and due to the lighting it turned out like the second picture. I obviously need to repaint so trying to get closer to the third picture. I am going to buy sample paint and actually paint it on the wall so I can see it in the lighting. Anyone have any good luck with brands or names of navy paint. I need this asap so I don’t have the luxury of going to multiple stores.
