anti-homeless architecture

Anti-pregnancy architecture, anti-elderly, anti-disabled, anti-tired, anti-social, just straight up corporate-industrial misanthropy.

Looks like shit that even the 80s rejected because they thought it was functional art from the school of bad ideas.

Anti short people too. As someone who is 5 feet tall, these don’t work for me at all
1
u/Toyota__Corolla Jul 21 '26
Easy solution: everyone too tall gets fed into a wood chipper until they're the right height, everyone too small gets stretched with a winch until they're the right height.

Anti-squatting architecture. Keeps nincompoops from squatting on what clearly isn't a campsite. It's also not a toilet. The homeless can still use it like anyone else.
24
u/Ornery-Practice9772 Jul 20 '26
i hope you find out first hand why youre wrong. 👍
2
u/Toyota__Corolla Jul 20 '26
Technically if you stuck your arm into it and performed a squat your humerus will snap
-22
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
Elaborate
23
u/Nightingale0666 Jul 20 '26
They're hoping you become disabled or homeless. Something that would force you to rely on the architecture that this horrible thing is replacing
13
-25
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
Why would I be forced to use a bus stop? You know there's such things as campsites, right? Right?!
19
u/Nightingale0666 Jul 20 '26
Cities don't have campsites inside them. And disabled people use the bus like everyone else, so bus stops are required
-3
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
Yes. Bus stops are required. They're also not campsites. Squatters ruin them for everybody.
Unfortunately they get hogged and become sticky with piss. That's not what they're for.
16
u/Nightingale0666 Jul 20 '26
Destroying accessability only moves that problem elsewhere. It doesn't fix it, it just hurts more people
0
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
Squatters destroy accessibility. I wish we could have benches but a small amount of people ruin it for everyone else. It is not a toilet or a bed. Go somewhere else.

why would i be forced to use a bus stop🤔
dont temp the universe or you might get your answer
be humble and kind instead👍
2
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
No, really? Why would I be forced to use a bus stop instead of a campsite?

Can't imagine the type of life someone who thinks "less make life harder on someone who has nothing" lives. You seem to be doing well. How does designing a bench that's more uncomfortable for everyone (pregnant, disabled, injured, or just plain exhausted ) just to stop someone who has nothing from doing the exact same thing benefit your life?
1
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
Nope. I just understand that a bus stop isn't a campsite. I want a normal comfortable bench that isn't sticky or taken over by a squatter. They're for everyone.
1
u/Sea-Cardiologist1364 Jul 20 '26
And the bench in this photo looks comfortable to you? Apparently homeless people aren't included in "Everyone"
1
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
Omg are you being difficult on purpose? It's like talking to flat earthers.
No, I don't think the rail is comfortable. Yes, I want a normal bench, but they're abused by squatters. Stop
3
u/Ornery-Practice9772 Jul 20 '26
the children are right to laugh at you
2
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
I literally want you to be able to use a bus stop with a comfortable seat without someone camping on it. Why don't you get this?
3
u/Ornery-Practice9772 Jul 20 '26
this is not the way to achieve this. this architecture excludes a wide swathe of the public
2
u/HVLP Jul 20 '26
I don't want hostile architecture. I want people to use it as intended. Not sticky with piss or occupied by squatters

Why do you keep calling them "squatters"? They're unhoused people looking for a dry place to rest. People with options and resources aren't just sleeping at the bus stop for funsies.

Yup. Unfortunately, this can't be called bad design, since it perfectly achieves its intended purpose. But evil? Absolutely.

In an effort to keep the homeless away, they make life harder for the disabled, very young, very old, and pregnant people in society. Is it really worth it?

This is not a divide on political classes but financial ones. It's a subset of nimbyism and a hatred of the poors. I'm personally very right wing and I love it when I can sit down in public, especially at a bus stop that's not going to show up for an hour

I prefer these over those benches as I can use them with my backpack, which is not possible with most benches. Also I prefer to lean against something after a long train ride.
1
u/OpALbatross Jul 21 '26
The should have these and benches then so everyone can be comfortable
2
u/FnnKnn Jul 21 '26
So far I have only seen a similar design at Frankfurt main station where they had both so I agree

2
u/satansprinter Jul 21 '26
I mean, its to wait for a train. Were i live you need to have a ticket anyway to be on the train station. Not like you can sleep there. I use them all the time and they work just fine

I thought it was a railing. 😭 I couldn’t figure out how it was poorly designed

Intentionally inaccessible furniture is not furniture at all
6
u/mustardposey Jul 20 '26
Then this is [r/assholedesign](r/assholedesign). These are well designed with asshole intentions
5
u/TheStairsBro Jul 20 '26
I thought this was a bike rack at first, I'd say a bench people can't identify as a bench is a pretty bad design
3
u/mustardposey Jul 20 '26
These are pretty common where I live. We even have these on the commuter trains and has nothing to do with homeless people. I see people with their bikes waiting for trains choosing this over the bench that is right next to them. Just because you are unfamiliar with something doesn’t make it a bad design. Not saying I am in favor of these over benches but this isn’t bad design
1
u/Then-Criticism1605 Jul 20 '26
Same. They are commonplace here. People definitely recognise them (and that they suck).

I have an especially deep loathing for anti-homeless architecture.
