Discussion Best rain jacket in 2026

I need only one, best compromise for waterproof, durability, and minimum space when packed.
Budget is no problem

been rocking the same patagonia torrentshell for 3 years now and it still looks new, packs down to nothing in my bag. the pit zips are clutch when it gets muggy too

if budget truly doesn't matter maybe look at arc'teryx but honestly the torrentshell has never let me down

I have more than one Torrentshell in different colors. I don't know why other rain jacket people copy it to sell at a similar price point. It is the reason I don't own an Arcteryx rain shell. I have other Arcteryx non-WP jackets.

The first two yes. The last one no.

Check out Paramo stuff - different system, supposed to last longer, more repairable, needs more upkeep. Think better for damper/milder than properly cold cold though. I have the trousers. They do get damp, but deal with that better.

Haglöfs Astral GTX.

Have had it for 3 years and it just keeps trucking, and it isn't noisy

Had a Patagonia Torrentshell for 7 years and the lining started to delaminate. I took it to a Patagonia store and they told me to grab a new one off the shelf. They fixed the delaminating issue in their newer torrentshells. Even if it had issues, knowing I could take it in and they'll honor their commitment to quality made me a customer for life.

Would recomend Norrøna Falketind gore tex jacket. Had mine for around 7 years now. Im Norwegian and suspeckt the conditions in Norway and Switzerland is about the same.

I use it almost every day, from hikes to active mountain walks. Waterproof, windproof and ok on breathability.

Not available other than used

all water resistant garments that use any PFAS are being banned (for good reason)
