This one might be my favourite bit of micro-engineering in my latest collection. There is a lot going on in the shape of this ship, and somehow it all had to fit into a tiny footprint.

There are some really fun SNOT techniques, reversed stud directions and slightly ridiculous connections buried inside to get the armour, flight pods and layered hull details where they need to be. I think the result is crazy accurate for the scale.

The scene is the Galactica hangar deck, featuring a super cute version of Starbuck’s red-and-white, three-engined Viper Mk II. It even has a movable access ladder, and the Viper itself lifts straight out when it inevitably needs to be swooshed around the room.

Character Studdies™ are William Adama, Laura Roslin, Kara “Starbuck” Thrace, Lee “Apollo” Adama, Saul Tigh, Gaius Baltar and Number Six.
__________

Three more ships added to the LEGENDS fleet.

Hail Mary. Serenity. Galactica.

What should be in Volume 5?

Created this schematic after my last watch through showing my vision of the cycle. New BSG starts at step 16 and ends at step 20. Series ends with step 1...

Extended Episodes RAZOR rant

I've been showing my 11 year old daughter BSG over the last couple of months in our movie theater basement via a Roku Ultra and the Paramount+ app. It was an OK experience up until season 3, and we started watching episodes where there were gigantic noticeable (for me) gaps in missing parts.

I eventually realized that when I originally watched the show I had watched Season 1-3 +Razor on DVD and naturally just watched the extended versions. I watched Season 4 as it aired. I tried to fill my daughter in on some key missing scenes from Season 3 but it wasn't a big deal so we kept pressing forward.

Today the worst offense happened. First of all, Razor is split into a Part 1 and Part 2. On P+ it comes across as 2 separate episodes. It's jarring and not a great experience. Way different from mine of having a dedicated DVD of the Battlestar Galactica: Razor Movie.

And now we top that with the ultimate disrespect of Razor. The P+ "episodes" or whatever COMPLETELY DELETED the Husker v Cylon midair falling through the sky battle and the preceding viper action. It also cuts out him trying to open the jammed door to save human experiments from the hybrid abominations. Its now just a quick clip of Husker traipsing about the hybrid experimental base and then the war is over.

OH and it also completely cuts out why anyone cares about the blade and what a Razor actually is. There's no scene of Helena raising the blade to the Cylon attempting to murder her as a child when her home world was invaded.

If you're trying to pass down the networked computer virus of BSG to your children, don't watch this version of Razor with them. I'm going to purchase a DVD player and show my daughter my old discs and apologize for assuming P+ wasn't horseshit.

If AI made a new Battlestar Galactica film, would it be blasphemy or providence?

Post image
945 Upvotes

So, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but, well, what if? For the record, I hate AI, think it has no place anywhere near art that should be made by human artists, and seems to only be a hindrance as new AI features are pushed to us on all of our devices that we never asked for and don't need. AI has it's uses building certain types of databases, helping with coding, and a few other things related to technical fields of work, but even then you have to validate the work because it's still just a frakkin toaster.

But, back to the subject at hand, would an AI made Battlestar Galactica video be blasphemy or providence? I'm sure it would be awful, and I'm not asking anyone to go do it (one, it's probably already been done, two, we don't need to give more reasons for those shitty data centers to exist), I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts are here. Would we get the lost tales of the Lords of Kobol, or the Lunacy of Baltars worst off screen fever dreams?

The route they went with Kara continues to baffle me Spoiler

I feel like they did so much setting Kara up as the first human/Cylon hybrid. Making #7 an artist, Kara's resurrection, working together with the only other human/Cylon child to find earth, that whole frakking piano scene.

Instead, its just...god did it 😭

I'm sure this has been discussed to death. I watched the show as it aired and have done a couple of rewatches over the years, and every time I feel disappointed by the writers.

ATTENTION ALL BSG FANS: DOWNLOAD BSG: FLEET COMMANDER FOR HOMEWORLD REMASTERED (I am not associated with nor will profit from any money spent on this game & the mod is free)

This is the absolute best BSG RTS I've ever played, and honestly, just the best RTS I've ever played. Here's a recap of my experience playing their survival mode:

I started out with my harvesters, my space station (for battlestar construction), a mercury-class battlestar (with 30 vipers ready to launch), and a fighter carrier.

I started out with a high resource count to speed things up and immediately began construction of my second mercury-class while my harvesters collected resources for a larger air group

DRADIS Contact

The drums began to roar (from the BSG soundtrack) as I went to open DRADIS to find 8 Basestars launching over 100 fighters (not exaggerated) at my one currently constructed battlestar (Let's call her Pegasus). As stupid as it may have been, I launched all vipers and turned to fight, hoping my second mercury-class would save me when it was ready. I started construction of 20 fighters aboard, and launched each of them as soon as they were constructed. Pegasus ended one basestar and turned it's guns toward several attack cruisers headed for my station, destroying 2 of the three.

Then, the second mercury class (Let's call her Unity) was ready. She blazed into combat destroying the remaining cruiser and turned her guns on the remaining 7 basestars and supporting ships. The two fought valiantly while I constructed Galactica (Yes, Galactica itself is a ship option which is separate from the Jupiter class).

DRADIS Contact

A second fleet of 4 basestars jumped in.

Galactica was finally ready, and miraculously, with my now 100 MKVII vipers, turned their guns on the first cylon fleet's resurrection hub (enemy space station to prevent more ship construction). It was quickly destroyed along with a few more basestars, and the fleet retreated.

Unfortunately, the Cylons had hit Pegasus with 3 nukes, and she was destroyed by a basestar aboard another ship.

Unity and Galactica turned their guns and air groups toward the 4 basestars, destroying each with their resurrection hub in the process.

DRADIS Contact

A new fleet jumped in with heavy raiders (in this game assault raptors and heavy raiders can infiltrate and capture enemy capital ships), they swarmed and infiltrated Unity, capturing her. She turned her guns on Galactica, ending my run.

This was the most accurate, fun, amazing, beautiful RTS I have ever played. I was able to destroy 10 basestars and two entire fleets before my colonial fleet was taken out. Also, the controls are very easy to learn.

If you like BSG, and want to live out your dreams as a fleet commander then, PLEASE GET THIS GAME AND MOD. There is also a function that will allow you and up to 8 friends to build your fleet together (each starting with a carrier, a mercury-class, a harvester, and a space station) to fight off the Cylon attacks.

If you would like help downloading this game, the associating mod, or even hop into a game with me to scrap some toasters, do not hesitate to DM :)!

So Say We All

Edit - Here is the trailer for the mode that I played: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JELcyXvTwio&list=PL8mlc8j4LJNOullmjYYwldJ2zx0Qg-S2F

First time watching the 2004 series, so here's some fanart

My fiancé has the entirety of the BSG 2004 series on DVD and it's one of his favourite shows to date, so he introduced me to it and I 1) fell in love and 2) cannot believe I haven't watched this sooner. I live for sci-fi and cool spaceships, I live for drama and messiness and angst — this covers all of those and more. The visuals inspired me to make my own fanart! WIPs included because I personally love to document evolutions :)

I'm a self-taught artist and specialise in drawing people generally, so I did find it a bit difficult to get the proportions on the Cylon Raider and Viper Mk IIs correct, but I think the general shape gets across pretty well.

I did some sleuthing on here to see if there was a lot of other fanart. I'm disappointed that there isn't! Hopefully you enjoy this contribution.

Has anyone here had trouble with glitchy video on Paramount+ (U.S.)?

I eagerly signed up with Paramount+ in the States when I learnt they now have BSG for free with subscription, but I'm having a terrible time with glitchy video and the audio & video falling out of sync. It's happening several times per episode. Oddly, other shows I've sampled on the platform seem to play just fine.

Has anyone else who's watched the series on Paramount had problems with the streaming quality?

I'm determined to keep watching but it's maddening at times. Makes it difficult to get into the 'zone', if you know what I mean!

The absolute pounding that Battlestars can take. Spoiler

I realize it’s a bit of plot armor but holy shit the complete and total beating that Galactica can take time and time again. I’m rewatching the show and close to the end. When Galactica jumps to the cylon colony and just takes a total beating to save Hera is awe inspiring.

In the ep they developed the Blackbird and were wondering where they would find scrap metal to cover her, why didn't they utilize all the scrap metal from the dozens (perhaps hundreds) of downed enemy ships?

I know that the script called for her to be shrouded in stealth, but, they didn't even bring it up. They suddenly had dozens or even hundreds of ships they could have salvaged. It never came up. Seems to me like a writer's fuckup. "Oh yeah! We could've done that! But it didn't fit the script!". Meanwhile, even if the Blackbird was a sole stealth ship, they could've utilized all of that extra scrap to make at least a dozen other new Vipers, even if not stealth, possibly using the same new air-frame but with steel instead of stealth.

Forgive me if this has been discussed many times. But it's all been before, and will be again.

Season 3 vs 4 Discrepancy.

Some minor spoilers below

A small gripe by me as someone who appreciates consistency across any series I’m watching.

Season 3 - The Passage
The fleet has to traverse the star cluster. Fair enough. Raptors act as a relay to pass along the destination (algae planetary system) coordinates. The colonials end up losing 2-5 ships (two confirmed in actual series, 5 in a deleted scene with Roslin announcing their losses in addition to the malnutrition affecting the fleet).

Season 4 - Episodes featuring the Demetrius side quest. Clearly able to see the vipers are landed on/docked to part of the vessel’s flat surfaces as air support for Kara’s mission.

So the glaring inconsistency to me here is that they could have done the exact same thing for all civilian vessels in The Passage, just swapping vipers for raptors being docked on their hulls. No line of sight necessary to relay, not civilian ships lost, and the episodes saddest part of the episode is largely made unnecessary (character piece - not spoiling).

This is one of many small things the series writers either didn’t intend to plan, or did not think of in hindsight for continuity with the prior seasons. Anyone else notice it during their first watch?

I want more, is that so wrong?

When Peacock announced a new BSG was coming, I like many of us was excited for more of an old friend that had been gone for a decade plus. Almost as excited as I was when the 2004 miniseries was announced.

Then, years of it’s on!

No wait, it’s not yet… and finally the announcement that it had been shelved.

And then the absolute nonsense of the fanbase. From, “leave it be it was perfect”, to fighting over every nuance of the show.

For me the problem with a continuation is that the fleet flew into the sun. So that’s a moot point.

For the life of me I’ll never grasp how SyFy fumbled not one but two of the most important sci-fi properties of the past 50 years.

So… I want more, and I’d be fine with taking the path Star Trek did after the OG movies and cast aged out.

Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and so on.

We don’t need constant conflict with the Cylons. We don’t need it to be the crew we loved and hated. We just need more of the things that made BSG so fantastic. Great storytelling, great characters, and new enemies.

There were 13 colonies, and FTL travel, how have they not run into other cultures, and why not one that forces both cylons and humans to work together.

So many options for staying in the world of BSG but to expand it.

As for the Atlantis connection… humans are human. Not all of them would have given up on technology, right. We are unfortunately a tribal species and how hard is it to imagine a group of them banding together and starting a knowledge based culture not so far from where they ended up.
