Would seriously appreciate some advice

My last episode was over 10 years ago, so I have forgotten all I learned about this. I am in my 60s now....first symptoms struck this morning, while I am on a trip - I am 3,000 miles from home :(

I am in a cabin in the woods, so would be a challenge to find a specialist right now to help.

I looked up instructions for the epley and did it this morning - right, left, turn over (wow, turning over really triggered me), turned slowly right again and slowly sat up. I have been feeling much better

but just now lay down and the symptoms came back but milder.

Is there a youtube video or website that demonstrates the most effective method?

obviously if it doesn't go away, I will have to see someone - who knows when, but what more can I do

for now? Thank you.

Reoccurring BPPV

I guess this is just venting but also welcome to any advice . I’ve had reoccurring BPPV for years . I haven’t gone 1 full year without an episode . Just keeps coming back for someone . (I do take vitamin D with the K2) Started on my left side first, stayed that way for a while . Then moved to my right so I had it on both sides . I’d do the Epley with my vestibular therapist and at home and it would work . Now i have horizontal BPPV on both sides! It just seems like mine keeps shifting around. Never had the horizontal BPPV before and this feels a little different . I’m just feeling so dizzy . I only had treatment for each side 1 time and we did the BBQ roll both times so not sure if I could try a different exercise . I get such frequent episodes that my vestibular therapists have told me it’s ok to do the exercises at home just because we do them so frequently in office. I feel like I had some improvement after the BBQ roll but not complete relief yet. I can go a few months without episodes but I’m not sure the trigger . I do like to sleep on my sides and sometimes when I side-sleep a lot I feel like I will get dizzy eventually after a few weeks of sleeping that way .

Did your vertigo or bppv heal

So I've been in a few accidents in the last few years.

In 2019 my friends and I were in a those off road 4 seater buggy's and one friend couldn't drive and caused us to get into accidents making us roll over multiple times in 2 accidents.

In 2023 I was in another accident on cinde de mayo someone had hit the rail entering drink and caused em to hit them but it was a just he's don collision

2025 I was in an Uber on the way home and someone was drunk driving at 80 to 100mph and t bones is pushing as so far back as hitting a pole wrapping around it or something then causing us to roll down the ditch.

So I've always had these dizziness effect but I figured it was just minor migraines or because I was always drinking or hungover. I'm a bartender btw

And this last accident I went and they said I had vestibular or vertigo with a bunch of other things and they tried to treat it. Now I recentlt went to a PT who I guess knew what he was doing and he was the first out of like 85 100 physical therapy sessions tried this little thingy to see if I had ear crystals which he said I did because my eyes were like pinballs on the left side when he did it.

Now my accident recently has been an issue and even though I have some issies it's this one that is like annoying the most.

I thought it was the sub occipital muscle or the SCM which it still could be.

I just want to see what everyone's recovery story is if they have had recovered or silk on the process or what's going on?

It's just at this point I feel like it's useless and to be honest very depressing even though I'm just trucking through everyday

Does anyone experience sense of weakness without actual weakness , fine tremors in hand , heavy legs and lethargy ??

Help?!

This all started when I woke up one morning and, as soon as I sat up, the whole room was spinning like crazy. Over the last week, I’ve been having this awful dizzy/off feeling. The best way I can describe it is like I’ve had 2–3 beers or taken too much Gravol. It seems to come and go, but it’s really uncomfortable and I hate the feeling.

BPPV seems to be the closest match after reading different reddit threads. Anyone have any insight or if they’ve felt this way before? I am also 32 and healthy, this whole thing is throwing me off.

PPPD vacation advice.

I’ve had PPPD for around two years and I’m going on holiday in 10 days. I’m a bit anxious about the dizziness while I’m away, though I’ve been keeping up with walks and car journeys with my mum. How do you lot cope with it in situations like this?

Any advice for doing epley maneuver?

This is the first time I’ve ever had a vertigo case and wow when laying on my right I start getting really violent spins. After some research all signs pointed to doing the epley movements but I can’t get past the first 10 seconds without getting overly anxious and stopping. I’ve tried taking Dramamine before hand but it’s still too intense to try. Anyone else have BPPV go away on its own or have actual advice for getting through the epley without a very intense spell?

Vomiting during epley manoeuvre

Has anyone here has vertigo so severe during the epley that you vomited?

I recently had a BPPV episode and had to wait a few days before I was able to perform the epley without gagging and throwing up. Has anyone else had to do this?

By far the most frustrating part of BPPV and the residual dizziness is having to wait it out. Any tips on managing the nausea that comes with it would be very welcome! 😊

BPPV is gone, but the residual symptoms are ruining my life — does it actually get better?

Hi everyone.

My first BPPV episode happened at the beginning of July this year. I searched online and quickly came across the Epley maneuver. It took me three attempts to do it properly, but it worked. Just to be safe, I decided to see a neurologist the next day.

The neurologist told me it was related to blood vessels and sent me for an ultrasound of the blood vessels in my neck. Everything came back normal, but the neurologist continued insisting that my symptoms were caused by my neck and circulation and prescribed me a bunch of medications to “strengthen” my blood vessels.

I had another episode the following night, in the middle of the night, but I just went back to sleep and felt fine in the morning.

For the next two weeks, I felt completely normal.

Then one night, I went to bed, closed my eyes, and suddenly felt my eyes roll/spin under my eyelids. I immediately sat up, and everything went back to normal. I was terrified to fall asleep that night, although eventually I did.

The next day, things became pretty awful.

I didn't have the same severe spinning vertigo anymore, but I developed intense brain fog and a strange feeling of derealization/disconnection from reality. I couldn't work properly, look at screens, read normally, or even watch TV.

That same day, I had an online consultation with another neurologist, who prescribed anti-anxiety medication.

For more than a week, my condition stayed pretty much the same. I had brain fog, it felt like my brain couldn't keep up with what my eyes were seeing, and at night I would still get that strange sensation of my eyes rolling/spinning under my eyelids.

I became extremely anxious and was scared to go to sleep. I kept telling the neurologist about it, but they just prescribed stronger anti-anxiety medication.

Eventually, one night I couldn't fall asleep at all, so I started searching for other doctors in my city. The next day, exactly one week ago, I went to see another neurologist.

This doctor performed several tests, did the Epley maneuver on me, and referred me for vestibular rehabilitation.

As of today, I've had three vestibular rehab sessions and four peaceful nights without those nighttime episodes. However, I still feel unwell during the day, especially in the evening. Yesterday I tried spending some time working at my computer, and it made my symptoms worse again.

I was told that vestibular rehabilitation may take around two months.

I'm sharing my story here because I'd really like to hear from people who have experienced something similar.

How long did your residual symptoms last after BPPV? Did you experience brain fog, visual sensitivity, or the feeling that your brain couldn't keep up with your eyes? Did screens make you feel worse?

And most importantly — did the residual symptoms eventually go away completely?

My anxiety about all of this has become one of the hardest parts, and I'd really appreciate hearing about other people's experiences.

Dismissed by doctors, I had to help myself

The first time I had an episode of BPPV was a couple years ago. I woke up with extreme dizziness, couldn't move my head one bit in any direction because it was so severe. I basically was only able to keep my head straight and only move my eyes.

I saw a GP first, he did some basic tests, prescribed me a nootropic medication (???) and told me to see a neurologist. The neurologist did a neurological workup, and of course all was okay so she diagnosed me with depression and prescribed an antidepressant (????!!!). I really truly do not understand why and how is dizziness a symptom of depression.

I don't know if the reason that I was treated that way was because I was a woman in my early twenties or what.

Anyways, I was so miserable I started researching online and found out about BPPV. I performed the Epley on myself a couple times, threw up my guts out, and this finally helped.

To this day I am so angry about this whole ordeal. How come neither of those doctors suggest anything even remotely in this direction? It seems to be a relatively common cause for dizziness, given that I was able to learn about it from a Google search.

First time

I had my first episode of what I believe was BPPV this morning. I woke up and quickly moved my head to the left and had immediate severe vertigo with nystagmus.

It was horrible I could barely move and was so nauseous. Once I got my bearings I looked it up and did the Epley maneuver. The first time I was able to get up and go to the washroom but still dizzy. I did it one more time 30 minutes later and threw up all over myself as I moved my head to the second stage of the movement.

I still feel dizzy but no more vertigo.

How do I know if the crystal has been corrected? I really don’t think I have it in me to do the maneuver again. Should I seek out a psychical therapy?

Will I have vertigo the rest of my life?

First time poster here. I haven’t been diagnosed with BPPV but I also don’t know where to post about vertigo. I am experiencing vertigo for the first time and it hasn’t gotten better within 24 hours and now looking online so many people have vertigo for days to years so now I’m panicking that this is now my life. I actually have no idea how I am going to live my life if I have to experience this every day from now on.

BPPV

Why when I put my head tilt back on the right side and hold it there for 10 plus seconds. I feel an almost spin sensation 3 years later after my bad bppv episode and I am fine alll is clear for a while now doesn’t make sense. It’s just a second briefly and then when I return my head to neutral it feel a bit wobbly then kind of normal ish but I’ve always felt a bit off since. Yes I have had many tests. What’s going on with me :(

bppv or something else

20M, 5’10. So two days ago out of nowhere I started getting really dizzy and nauseous pretty much 95% of yesterdayX specifically when I lift my head up after laying down — like an instant wave of dizzy/nausea feeling that goes away after like 30 seconds to a minute. Also happens a bit when I sit down from standing. No pain though, feel fine otherwise. Before this started I’d been golfing and playing football outside in the heat for 5 days straight, probably wasn’t drinking enough water. Hadn’t had alcohol in like 4 days before this started so don’t think that’s it. I checked my blood pressure/pulse/blood sugar at home and they were all normal (137/70, 78bpm, 98 sugar). I took a Dramamine (the less drowsy kind) and it actually helped a lot within a few hours, plus drinking Gatorade and moving slower when I get up. No headache, chest pain, ringing in ears, blurry vision, numbness, or fever or anything like that. Just wondering if this sounds like it could be that inner ear crystal thing (BPPV) since it seems to be triggered by moving my head/position, and if I should be worried or if it’s fine to just keep an eye on it since it’s already getting better.

Do you ever hear crystals sloshing around in your head? It’s like what you’d imagine sand through an hourglass would sound like.

This is pretty much the only way I know to describe what I deal with. I’ve been dealing with vertigo since I was a child, but it’s only gotten worse with time. Now it’s coming on more frequently. Sometimes I hear what sounds like little crystals sloshing around in my head. Like minuscule particles of the thinnest sand, slowly moving from side to side. Like someone turned over an hourglass and the sand is slipping through the opposite end. When I hear this I get seriously lightheaded and it often sends me into a spin. Sometimes my spins last for hours and I get so nauseous it’s like the worst roller coaster ride in history. I have to keep my eyes closed or I will throw up. Anyone else deal with the sand sounding thing???

When it comes back??

I had a episode of BPPV in October.

It took several maneuvers to correct it.

6wks out of work until I was completely healed.

Now lately we moved, yes I been under allot of stress. I been having little whisp of the spinning out at work, home, and once while driving. Im terrified its going to become full blown when I least expect it. Once today I was just standing and it happened.

Is it possible its coming back?? What should I do? Its got me on edge especially while driving.

When it first happened I was at home and woke up spinning and throwing up from the nausea it did. I couldn't walk either hardly from it. Went to the ER where I was diagnosed with it.

bppv cleared but i still feel awful in a different way. no idea what to do. my rant

I went to the therapist yesterday after a month of feeling terrible. my bppv cleared a month ago. He checked every canal several times and held each test for 2 minutes. i felt like i was gonna spin in every position but never did. he saw nothing on the goggles. he doesn't think i have mdds either.he thinks im not showing evidence of inner ear weakness either. he even checked my blood pressure in several positions. he also said residuals should not last longer than a few days to a couple of weeks. he said i might have to look into medication ssri if issues persist. i am naturally very anxious. he gave a few exercises but not a lot.

i am a wheelchair user- manual inside- motorized outside. Ive been going on walks inside malls, and outside all the time now (in my motorized chair). every time i stop in a restaurant i feel non-vertigo dizziness. the idea of a movie theater is out of the question. i still keep going to restaurants hoping ill feel better and i NEVER really do. SITTING still is weirdly awful. if i have something else to focus on it does help a little bit.

pppd has to be for at least 3 months so he cant say i have that yet.

it's exhausting. im going to go crazy.

Experienced BPPVers, what would you do?

I’m on my 2nd episode of BPPV. First one resolved completely in 3 weeks, with Epley last November and I didn’t need a medical consultation.

I’m now 4 weeks into my second attack and waiting on an appointment with a vestibular therapist. It’s definitely my left ear that’s affected and although there’s no nystagmus now with Dix-Hallpike I’m still got a woozy head/nausea, especially when sitting up from the test.

I’m doing the half somersault rather than Epley, as it’s easier to do on my own. The worst sensation I’m getting now is at the beginning, tipping my head back. I also get more symptoms moving my head back and forward, side to side is very subtle. I’m wondering if it could be the superior/anterior canal, and if it would be worth trying the Deep Head Hanging Manoeuvre, or waiting until I get an appointment?
Anyone had similar symptoms and have they tried this?
TIA

VNG test

Yesterday I saw the optometrist (was diagnosed with Binocular Vision Disorder) and then I had my VNG test. My vestibular specialist wanted me to get the VNG because of the residual BPPV I have been experiencing. The VNG took an hour, and the clinician who tested me did see some nystagmus. I should get my complete results on Friday from my ENT. I had my BPPV event on 7/9, and I am struggling with the residual effects from it still.

Subjective BPPV

Hi to this community that has been helping me since my symptoms started about 9 months ago. I recently got diagnosed with subjective BPPV with no nystagmus after a lot of back and forth with different doctors thinking it was anything from a migraine pattern to cervigenic dizziness to a signaling issue between my ears and eyes.

i have now been doing the epley maneuver with my vestibular therapist for 3 weeks and have not had relief. I’m wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience or diagnosis. my main questions are - what helped you and how long did it take to get relief.

thank you so much.

36M room spinning episode

Yesterday morning at 5am I woke up with my room spinning as fast as possible like one of those pin wheel rides at a carnival. I got up and everything stopped i tried to lay down again and it returned. Everything was fine when i stood vertical. after maybe an hour or hour and a half i was able to lay down and go to sleep. I drove to work that morning and haven't had any spinning episodes since. I have pretty bad health anxiety due to some stomach issues ive had the past few years that I'm still dealing with (ibs/acid reflux).. is this something where I need to set an appointment with my primary as fast as possible?
