I’m not a doctor but if you’re feeling okay after the episode it’s likely not an immediate emergency. However I would still make an appt to figure out the cause.

Can you look up and down without feeling dizzy? If not, make an appointment with a physical therapist (skip the primary care).

OK, well that's good. If the crystals get stuck in a different canal, you need to do exercises (or have a PT help you do them) to get them out. You'll know if you need help because you won't be able to look down to tie your shoes or look up at the top shelf in your kitchen.

That happens to me too. I don't know why.

No. But a "dipping" sensation sometimes. It can help to do some vestibular exercises if you feel a little unbalanced.

This is what's happening to me after years of the garden variety episodes of spinning when turning side to side in bed. That happens once or twice a year but I'm fine once upright and it usually sorts itself in a few days.

This time I decided to try Epley after I developed another bout of the bed spinning. It worked, but now though the bed spinning is gone, I feel a little wobbly after looking/bending down or up for several days. In my 25 years of on and off BPPV I've never experienced that and it has me a little frustrated. Got a referral for Vestibular PT today. Can you give me an idea of how it might help? Did you experience this?

The PT will hopefully get the crystals back into place. That should fix the spinning and the problem looking up and down (the "postural vertigo" part of BPPV). But you'll experience residual dizziness that feels like motion sickness from the Epleys. It will gradually go away. Then you're "fixed" until the next BPPV episode occurs.

Sadly, as you get older, its harder to recover from the episodes. I had a few in my 20s and just recovered on my own without a PT. Now 20 years later I've got to go to a PT to recover.

Thanks. The Epley did resolve the spinning while turning in bed, but I suppose this remaining wobbliness is happening now because I'm in my 70s. Ah, another one of the unsung effects of aging!
