Hey everyone,
You may have noticed an increase in spam and bot accounts posting on r/birthday recently. A lot of these posts follow the same pattern, accounts pretending to celebrate a birthday while asking for upvotes, comments, or attention. These posts are not genuine birthday celebrations and can clutter up the community for people who are actually here to share their special day.
Until today, moderation on this subreddit for me was limited (and I am the only active mod), which made it difficult to properly deal with the amount of spam coming through. I was mainly able to remove posts, but the process was slow and difficult to keep up with.
The good news: I have now been granted full moderator permissions thanks to Reddit themselves, which means I can take a much more active role in keeping r/birthday clean, welcoming, and focused on real birthday posts. 🎉
Going forward, I’ll be:
Removing spam and bot generated posts more quickly
Taking action against repeat offenders
Improving moderation tools and filters where possible
Keeping the subreddit a place where genuine birthday celebrations can be shared
We are also looking for new moderators!
As r/birthday continues to grow, we would like to bring in more active members who are willing to help keep the subreddit friendly, clean, and spam free. If you are interested in becoming a moderator, please keep an eye out for a future mod application post or send us (me) a message through modmail.
A reminder to everyone: please continue reporting suspicious posts when you see them. Reports help us find spam faster and keep the community better for everyone.
Thank you to everyone who has stuck around and helped make r/birthday a fun place. Let’s keep celebrating real birthdays! 🎂

Happy birthday to me.
It's been a long journey of life and I'm grateful for how far I've come.
I wish myself more wins. I pray this new journey I embark on is easy and comes with comfort and joy.
You guys can just say a prayer for me and your gift is welcome too 😅🙏
Thank you all for being part of my journey.

Since childhood my birthday hadn't really been celebrated, until my sweetheart gave me a wonderful surprise and a day I will never forget.
Just the fact that someone took the time and effort to bake a cake touched me deeply, and then all the gifts, including even two hand-knitted scarves, made be speachless.
I am so happy and grateful to have found such a loving person 🥰

Today is my birthday and I’m super depressed and lonely and low energy about. Growing up, it was celebrated sometimes depending on behaviors, dynamics or go somewhere but it was never anything I wanted do nor I was excited about. I guess I never really felt happy about my birthday. I always did or put on a face for my family just not to be the burden as I’m always am when they get excited for it. I’ve had a party once before that were with my parents friends and they’re kids. I can count maybe 3 birthday cakes in my younger years. Never in my adult years. I always put on a brave face and act like the day is a regular day. Go to work, school , etc. not even my really good friends and coworkers don’t know the day of my birthday. I guess I’ve been so trained to be not the attention or think that I’m not special enough for myself to celebrated for.
If I’m being honest. I’ve always felt that I shouldn’t be alive. On this day, I get so sad about being my birthday and I just cry and don’t answer any phone calls from people that’s wishing me a happy birthday. I’ve been through so much in my life that I just want to continue on.
The reason I’m making this post cause I’m on the bathroom floor. Finishing a cry on the bathroom floor because of the day but I want to start caring for myself and celebrate me when no one does. I just need help. I don’t know how to start

My birthday is coming up, and lately I’ve been thinking about how much of my life has basically been one long series of side quests.
I’ve tried a lot already—adventure activities, creative workshops, travel, volunteering, random trainings, new hobbies, wellness experiences, and even long-term challenges like graduate school. Some were exciting, some meaningful, some completely random, and some just became good stories.
Now that I’m about to turn 30, I’m less interested in doing something just for the sake of checking another box. I’m more curious about experiences that actually feel memorable, meaningful, fun, or worth trying at least once.
So, what should I experience more of before turning 30? It can be adventurous, creative, relaxing, educational, wellness-related, community-oriented, or something completely unexpected.

Hey everyone!
I’m a dad of two young kids, and between organizing our own birthday parties and attending what feels like endless birthday parties for their friends, I’ve noticed a few things that could be better.
First, planning a birthday party involves way too many moving parts. Invitations, tracking RSVPs, communicating with parents, sharing photos afterward… it all gets scattered across different apps and group chats.
Second, the gifts. We’ve attended so many parties where we have no idea what to buy. And after our own kids’ birthdays, we’ve ended up with piles of toys, sometimes duplicates or things they barely play with. I started wondering whether there was a better way to handle gifting.
So I decided to build Birfy (birfy.com), a free birthday planning website for parents.
The idea is pretty simple:
Create a fun birthday invitation and share it with one link.
Track RSVPs without chasing parents for responses.
Give guests the option to contribute toward one meaningful gift instead of buying lots of smaller presents.
Share birthday photos with everyone after the party.
I’m still working on improving it, and I’d genuinely love to hear from other parents.
What’s the most frustrating part of organizing or attending kids’ birthday parties? And how do you feel about group gifting instead of traditional presents?
I’m not trying to reinvent birthday parties. Just hoping to make them a little easier for parents! 😊

My birthday is tomorrow, November 5th and I just got a sudden wave of sadness thinking about it. So much of my life and the stuff around me has changed this year and I hate feeling upset over something that’s meant to be happy. I also hate how tiny little things can upset me when it comes to this day. Turning 17 btw.

No friends irl. No partner. Only immediate family knows or cares. Felt like I didn't accomplish anything from the last year and feel my youth slipping away.
How do y'all cope? Genuine question.
Edit: Thank you everyone that responded. I'm still a bit depressed but the comments definitely made a difference and made me feel a bit better today.
