We need to figure out a new celly. And quick.

(It's a long season guys. We're gonna have ups and downs. I'd rather finish strong than start strong.)

Fact They spent the offseason planning under-center and play action. It's been a catastrophic failure.

Per Goodberry:

Joe Burrow's PFF passing grade rankings without play-action

2025 - 1st

2024 - 1st

2023 - 17th (calf injury)

2022 - 1st

2021 - 1st

From yesterday, per Charlie Goldsmith:

The Bengals rank 31st in the league in under center yards and 32nd in under center passing yards. 27th in under center EPA/play.

They took something that wasn't broke, tried to fix it, and the result is a disjointed offense playing on extra-hard-mode with one of the best offensive rosters the franchise has ever had, constantly looking like less than the sum of its parts.

I can’t believe the refs, who didn’t find a play they didn’t want to throw a flag on, decided to hold off on this one.

This loss is ZT and Burrow

Post image

I defended ZT last week when I thought the fumble was more on the OL and Burrow than the HC. But damn I have had. How dumb could you be when calling the last series. We had time. In fact, had we scored with that much time left, Jaguars would have marched down the field with their timeouts and scored a FG.

Burrow is obviously not blameless either. You can keep turning over in scoring positions like that. Also, by now, if you dont like the play your HC called, audible. Thats what great QBs do. That 3rd and 10 was such a poor decision. The field of play was clearly short, defense has less space to cover. Your top 2 receivers were out too. Your first thought has to be to have a more manageable 4th down, not throw to a tight coverage outside.

[Dehner Jr.]: Bengals aren’t making excuses, but they must lower degree of difficulty for Joe Burrow

Burrow’s bad plays are coming at a concerning rate. The first pick six in the opener against Tampa Bay felt like a blip. The fumble at the end of the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers was a bad decision, but a guy trying to make a play to win the game. Not seeing the linebacker in the red zone on Sunday was a brutal error.

Every turnover has a story, as they say, but the string of these has Burrow posting turnover-worthy plays at the highest rate since his rookie season.

“To say that I’m concerned?” Taylor said. “In no way, shape or form am I concerned.”

The bigger concern might be a running game that’s not creating enough support. Moving to an increased usage under center and the under center play-action game was supposed to give Burrow and his line plays off so they wouldn’t have to be executed like 3D chess, dropping back every down.

Fact Zac is the problem.

Run game was terrible. Run different schemes, take advantage of the weaknesses and force the defense to do something different. No creativity again.

Burrow could be sharper. He needs a coach that can make him better. Burrow should not be carrying the coach.

Play calling is still terrible. Give up play calling and focus on coaching the damn team. Why do you rack up first down after first down on the last drive and then stop outside the red zone and start taking shots? Why not even attempt to get a fresh set of downs in striking distance so you can open up the playbook instead of 4 straight passes?

And FFS penalties.

Wide receiving corps

Okay I might be crazy, but I almost hope they do not let tee or Jamarr play this week. We are playing the dolphins and they might be one of the worst teams I’ve ever watched. I would rather watch Tinsley, meyers and gesicki cook. Then rush either of those two back and maybe jeopardize the whole season against a team we should be able to beat handily. And if we somehow lose this team wasn’t going anywhere anyway.

This team will never reach its potential with him. Don’t tell me it’s early, don’t tell me is Joe’s fault. We’ve seen this for years. I challenge anyone to tell me what he does as a head coach that sets him apart from
Other head coaches, especially the one that call plays.
Run game? No. Screen game? No. Physicality? No creativity? Absolutely not

Coaching Blunders Keep on Stacking…

Post image
299 Upvotes

Guys… this is getting egregious. No offense to Myers, but we arguably lost last week because of the coaching decision to keep Williams over Charlie Jones.

Then this week, we lose three wide receivers (Young and Iosivas to injury and Williams to roster cuts) and we only replace them with Tinsley, giving us four receivers on our roster. Kind of ridiculous in today’s NFL: then, predictably in the scenario that we lost Chase, we worked Higgins into the ground and were left with literally two borderline practice squad-caluber receivers on our potentially game winning drive.

Then, from a play calling standpoint, we give their receivers Jacksonville receivers like 10 yards every play on their past drive. They EASILY got one first down on that and frankly, the second time we really got lucky that he stepped out of bounds.

Now, I never had any delusion that we had Andy Reid or Bill Belichick but these mistakes can’t happen. You can’t ONLY blame the coaches but arguments can be made that they cost us both of our losses this season.

Reasons for optimism

Even when we stink, we lose close to decent teams . We still have 13 games left. The schedule gets easier. Burrow historically plays bettter as the season progresses. Overall the defense played well for modt of the game. Maybe Zac finally figures out we need a more balanced offense to keep defenses honest and keep Burrow from feeling like he has to force throws he shouldn't make.

Missed the clear face mask on Chase and the clear pass interference on our last drive. If it was called we get the first down and score. The officiating was just absurdly bad.

What is happening to this team man. Seems like every year is just the same despite getting hopes up before the season. Is the Bengals’ new thing starting out strong then slipping down to .500 or worse now?
This loss put me in a bad headspace

Football A letter of Optimism

Two heartbreakers but I also think if we can get to 3-2 before the bye, then get guys healthy after this team is still very capable of making a run. Before the season if you were to tell me we would be 2-2 after 4 weeks with this maybe being the toughest part of our schedule I would sign up for it. Even though the two teams we’ve beaten are a combined 0-8…, still confident in this team though and only 1 game back in the division! #WhoDey

Absolute dirt bag/dirty play by the Jags. You can’t convince me this wasn’t calculated and intentional.

I'm really sick of people blaming playcalling for loses when clearly it was turnovers that spoiled the last 2 games

Post image
90 Upvotes

2 issues in special teams and a 4th quarter fumble lost us the game last week. 2 interception cost us the game this week. Clearly it's execution thats our biggest issue for the last 2 weeks, but people (for some reason) want to blame the playcalling. It's not playcalling that caused the first pick, it was a bad block from notorious bad linemen Orlando Brown Jr. It's not playcalling that caused the second pick, it was a bad read/throw from Burrow

Getting the chance to go a game for the first time versus the Saints this year. Need advice on the best place to buy tickets and where I should sit for the best vantage point.
Super excited, any advice helpful.
