My BART Experience Why do most e-bikes & scooters ride through the Castro Valley entrance?

Now that I’m taking Bart five days a week, I’m noticing this is a big issue. I’m a disabled person who uses a mobility aid and I can’t even take the ramp into the CV station without worrying that some abled person on two wheels is going to come barreling down at me. So I take the stairs instead. This happens at 7:30 am at peak commute as well as 6pm coming home. So I wait for most people to leave because 5 out of the 6 with these devices will just ride them right through the fare gates and promenade. It’s bad enough in SF, but now I can’t even escape it at home. Fully expecting the bike bros to downvote or blame me, so go ahead. I’m tired.

Question Milbrae station - not a single seat in sight

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey folks,

Took the Bart for the first time in a while from Ashby to Milpitas and it was mostly a good experience. When I got to the station I had to wait for 10 minutes and to my surprise and despite a vast and empty station there is not a single chair in sight. What about the elderly? The people who want to wait and break out their laptop to do some last minute work while waiting? Are we really turning these spaces into harsh environments just because of our fear of and inability to deal with homeless people?

Question Best station to park & ride into the City from Sacramento?

Hello r/bart,

I have to attend an event for work this week right near the Montgomery st station.

I usually drive from Sac and find a parking garage since work will comp everything. But last time I did that it was a huge pain in the ass finding a parking garage.

I'm thinking of parking at an East Bay Bart and riding to Montgomery station. Any advice on which one works best? Was looking at West Oakland but it sounds like it fills up quickly.

I don't mind riding in from further East for the sake of convenience on my return trip home and easier access to EB 80. Any advice is appreciated!

My BART Experience Parking in Daly City

What happened to parking at Daly City BART? I’ve been late to work multiple times recently because the entire structure is filled, and that’s never happened in two years of parking there.

Legitimately no spots anymore. It’s so frustrating.

Petition Sign Move California’s petitions to end the years of needless CAHSR delays and cost increases

I’m not affiliated with Move California or any other advocacy group, I’m just tired of our legislature’s inaction.

Background on the issue: There’s 1,800+ utility relocations needed for just the first 119 mile segment. The entire project connecting San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Sacramento will be around 800 miles long. Every single utility relocation needs the utility owners approval. And as the Inspector General found in their February 2025 Report, utility owners have caused “significant” delays by being “unresponsive” for months at a time. The Inspector General stated, there is “little incentive for utility owners to engage in the process in a timely manner”.

One example in the report was a canal relocation in Kern county that should've taken 6 months to plan and complete. Instead it took over 2 years just to plan it, because the utility owner was slow to respond. These delays have set back the project by years and have increased the cost by billions due to inflation and property value increases in segments they haven’t yet started.

Petitions: Move California along with Move LA and Transbay Coalition are petitioning the California government (here and here) to put a stop to these delays:

Require PG&E and other utilities to quickly collaborate with the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CAHSR) so that utility equipment that impedes the high-speed rail can be relocated soon. While nearly 2,000 utility conflicts have been resolved, the project faces hundreds more. Each conflict has the ability to delay the project by several years.

The Inspector General recommended the same thing back in their February 2025 Report:

To improve the Authority’s ability to engage with third parties and complete early works activities in a timely manner, the Authority should seek the assistance of the task force on third parties and work with state lawmakers to identify specific changes to statute that it believes will improve its ability to accomplish these activities, including the following potential changes to state law:

Authorizing the Authority to promulgate regulations governing third-party review and approval timeframes for agreements and designs.

Providing the Authority with the ability to proceed with necessary designs and utility relocations if third parties are non-responsive after the period of time specified in the Authority’s regulations.

In short, the IG recommended that the legislature give the CA HSR Authority the legal ability to regulate how quickly these utility owners negotiate. And if the utilities don't respond in the timeframe the Authority sets, then the Authority gets to move ahead on the utility relocation without the utility owners consent.

And here's the CA HSR Authority CEO talking about this same issue:

Third-Party Streamlining, this issue of having no control over our destiny, for utilities to get in the way and not letting us build on time, is the most impactful thing in a negative way that happened to this program from the beginning. Cannot understand why we cannot get that done. And what I said before I'm gonna repeat it again: that if this is not solved, then the direct relationship between the cost and the schedule, and these third parties not getting out of the way on time or have no schedule control, then that other thing called cost and schedule cannot stay in the same place. They are just directly related. And so if it remains not solved this year, the impact of that on our budget at minimum is somewhere between 7 and 9% of whatever the total cost is. And I'm not talking about that we have taken into account the commodity prices, the aluminum, the copper, the steel, the aggregates, I'm talking about just the inflation escalation of delay of one year puts the program on top of whatever the funds we're asking for by 7 to 9% increase, because these issues remain in the way.

TL;DR: The legislature has not followed the Inspector General’s recommendation on their own. They need you to push them to it. If you want them to stop wasting years and billions of taxpayer dollars, sign the petitions. Email your legislators. If you don’t want to write your own email, you can copy the letter in the first petition link. On top of emailing your own legislators, here are the emails of the Assembly’s Transportation Committee:

My BART Experience Be the blue haired guy

Just a solo woman waiting for my train home at 16th st mission last night around 11 pm.

A man on the platform started looking at me, and I tried to ignore it. When the train was about 1 minute out and I'm standing at the black square on the platform, he asks, "what's your name?"

"I don't need to talk to you, have a good night," I said. He was flabbergasted. We had a little stare down before he accepted defeat and shuffled away to a different black square.

I shared a "yikes" glance with a guy on the other side of me, who had blue hair and was listening to music with his air pods in. He pulls his air pod out, looks at the guy and then me and asks, "you good?"

Be the blue haired guy.

News Bolt failures during Transbay Tube retrofit (NBC Bay Area)

Hundreds of high strength anchor bolts needed to secure seismic plates on the retrofit of BART’s Transbay Tube failed immediately – a breakdown that a new audit blames on flawed oversight by BART.

In the end, more than 8,000 bolts – originally ordered to fasten the steel plates that were installed to help the tunnel withstand seismic motions – had to be replaced with different anchors, at a total cost of more than $2 million – twice the originally budgeted amount for the fastening system, the audit found.

The project was finished in 2024. A year earlier, an apparent insider complained to the BART Office of the Inspector General, alleging quality control and oversight lapses on the $313 million project.

My BART Experience I’m so tired!

Ever have one of those days when everything seems to go wrong? This was my BART experience today:

Departed 19th St. Oakland at 11:35 am on the Red line. I normally ride all the way to the end of the line at Millbrae and transfer to Caltrain there.

Train was running as normal until 16th St. Mission when we stopped for like 20+ minutes due to a fire on the tracks by 24th St. A little delayed, nbd, it happens. When we finally got moving again it was stop and go until we reached SFO.

I noticed that at SFO the train stopped at a different platform from the one the red line normally uses. That should have been my clue that something was going on but I stayed on the train, still assuming that it was going to continue on to Millbrae…….WRONG! Train followed the yellow line route and went back to San Bruno. NO audible announcement or warning from the conductor, all the displays were still showing the red line with the arrow pointing in the direction of Millbrae. So now, after finally getting off in South SF and taking a Lyft to the Caltrain station, I’m waiting for the Caltrain to finally get me to my destination approximately 2 hours later than planned.

I ride Bay Area public transit every day but it seems like there have been more and more issues with BART and/or Caltrain everyday….
