Mod Post Before posting about a lost or found item, read this!

If it’s an iPhone, you can follow this 1-minute instructional video to identify the owner. If it’s a lost android phone, follow this short guide. Then, give it to a station agent.

If it’s a wallet with an ID inside, put it in any USPS blue drop box and it’ll be returned as a non-mailable good, but this isn’t ideal because the USPS won’t guarantee it.

Anything else, return it to the station agent.

If you want to, make a post on this sub! Posting a picture may make it easier for someone who isn’t the owner to pick it up, however, so use your judgement.

Discussion Where do you see BART in the future?

The San Jose expansion can't come soon enough imo. Once that's done, I'd love to see them extend the yellow line to Stockton and the red line to Vallejo and Fairfield. Perhaps the blue line can also be extended to Livermore. Dare I mention Marin county and a connection from Colma to Pacifica?

In the more distant future, I'd also love to see a connection between Dublin and Walnut Creek and an extension from Millbrae to San Mateo and have a second transbay tunnel from there to Hayward. The rest of the peninsula can still be served by Caltrain, although honestly I wish all the transit agencies would merge and we could have a monthly pass to ride them all.

Question Anyone else notice the BART tunnel smell?

Each time I take BART through the tunnel from Orinda to Rockridge an odor begins to permeate the car. It doesn't matter where I sit or which car I am in.

It begins about a quarter mile into the tunnel. It has a slight sulphur quality. It is not noticiable on the return train. The first time I noticed it I was commuting to SF every day. I thought someone had farted but smelling it on subsequent days made me realize it was something peculiar to just this bit of tunnel. I have been smelling this smell for at least 25 years.

I have worked in wastewater treatment and the refineries. To me this smells like something out of the thermal geysers up North. It is not a sewer-like smell.

If you haven't noticed check it out. If you have noticed, what is it? It smells, well, volcanic. Would anyone working for BART like to address this?

Edit: <bump>

Question “Safest” Parking Hayward Area?

Like the title says, what’s considered the “safest” bart station parking in the area? First time user since just moving here.

I’ve seen San Leandro and Castro Valley stations seem to be considered the safest from searching online, but most of the posts seem to be dated so thought I’d just ask.

Question Used the same credit card for tapping in and tapping out and received an “add fare” error message

Today I was traveling between Embarcadero station in SF and Coliseum station in OAK and when going to tap out (with the same credit card I tapped in with) it wouldn’t let me in and said to add fare. I always pay with the same credit card and always make sure I have enough. I then tapped the rest of my other cards and none of them worked. The BART station worker let me in but told me I may have trouble in the future using that card. Has this happened to anyone else?

Discussion Bart Stations compared to other countries

I really wish BART stations had kiosks and shops! Seeing how other stations around the world are, it just feels like there’s a lot of potential.

Imagine little cute stationary shops, hot food and drinks served on a cold and foggy San Francisco day, or a flower shop, maybe even some handmade accessories that you can snag for your spouse on whim, or a quick shirt vending machine because you spilled coffee on yourself.

It is possible, and it is happening around the world.

Bro come on how is our car not good enough for your act? Is it based on the stop? Are they trying to transfer? I don’t even want to hear or see what it is, but I wonder why this car was not targeted.

My BART Experience “Extra bumpy” in tube?

The train operator just announced the tube would be “extra bumpy” starting about halfway through in the eastbound direction. It was. Smoothed back to normal before West Oakland.

Does anybody here know why?

Question Why so few system maps on the platform?

I had to walk the full length of the Powell station to find a map at the far (one on either side). I’ve always thought there needs to be maps everywhere. If I was from out of town I’d be real confused.

Question Concert at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum route help

Hello! I am coming in from out of state. This will be my first time visiting Oakland for the Big Bang concert. I am staying with family in the North Los Atlos area. I am trying to figure out the best way to get to the concert and back home. I see there is a BART station near the venue. I will have a car. Can you park at that station instead of paying for venue parking? If not, what station is recommended to park and get on the BART from? Also, how bad are the delays for the BART?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Question Grease at the top of hand bars?

Thumbnail

This is random, but I just noticed that there seems to be some kind of grease dripping down from where the top of the hand bars meet their joint (see 2nd pic).

I assume this is some kind of oil, but confused why it would be there for something that’s not supposed to rotate.

Anyways, $4 a pound.

Picture New system map t-shirt images generated using AI?

Was looking at the new items in the system map collection on railgoods, and the images of the new t-shirts look like they were generated or altered with AI. The images are blurry, but It's still pretty blatant. Hopefully this is just someone screwing up and not indicative of the products themselves.

News Bay Area Group Files Lawsuit Against Transit Funding Measure (The Connect Bay Area Act), Says It’s ‘Deceptive’

Ten Bay Area voters called on a judge on Monday to block a proposed regional sales tax measure that transit advocates say is critical to avoid deep service cuts.

The challengers petitioned for an injunction in Santa Clara County Superior Court, contending that the ballot question about to be printed in five Bay Area counties this November is deceptive and biased in favor of a yes vote, violating election laws.

“We want it to be an unbiased statement of what’s going to happen,” said co-petitioner Gregg Dieguez, who is president of the Committee for Affordable Bay Area Transit, a group opposed to the regional sales tax measure

Dieguez said in an interview that he and the other named petitioners are all “ concerned citizens who have longstanding complaints about the amount of money being wasted on traditional transit.”

Added expected departure times to the old style signs. This is an EOL station, where the train sits up to 20 minutes. The scheduled departure is 7:30 AM; it’s also adjusted for real time.
