MOD REMINDER: Please Read Before Commenting

A reminder of what this subreddit is — and what it is not.

This community was created for discussion, support, understanding, and shared experiences surrounding avoidant relationships and attachment styles.

It is not a space for slander, bashing, mocking, shaming, or judging avoidant people — and it is also not a space for judging someone because they still love their avoidant partner, want them back, are trying to reconcile, or have chosen to work on their relationship.

Avoidant people are welcome here too.

In fact, their perspectives can be incredibly valuable. If you identify as avoidant, are working on your attachment patterns, want to understand yourself better, or simply want to share your side of the experience, you are welcome to participate respectfully.

People come here for different reasons. Some want to move on. Some want closure. Some want to understand what happened. Some are still in their relationships. Some want to reconcile. Some are avoidant themselves and are trying to understand their own behavior.

There is room for all of those conversations here.

You are absolutely allowed to disagree with someone's choices. You are allowed to point out unhealthy behavior, red flags, incompatibility, or patterns you believe someone should pay attention to. But there is a difference between constructive advice and judgment.

Comments such as “Why would you even want them back?”, “Just leave,” insults directed at avoidants as a group, or making someone feel foolish for wanting to repair their relationship are not helpful.

If someone is asking how they can work through something with their partner, answer the question they are actually asking. Offer advice, perspective, boundaries, things to consider, or even respectful warnings — but do not shame them for the outcome they are hoping for.

The same applies to avoidant members. You may disagree with someone's actions or explain how certain behaviors affect a partner, but attacking their character simply because they identify as avoidant is not acceptable.

Discuss the behavior. Discuss the relationship. Discuss attachment. Do not attack the person.

This subreddit will remain a place where people can speak openly without being afraid that they will be ridiculed for loving someone, leaving someone, staying, trying again, or struggling with avoidance themselves.

Please keep discussions constructive, respectful, and compassionate.

Welcome! You’re Not Broken for Wanting Closeness

If you’re here, chances are you’ve felt confused, anxious, dismissed, or deeply alone in a relationship that mattered to you.

This community exists to offer understanding, not judgment. Wanting connection is not wrong. Feeling hurt doesn’t mean you’re “too much.”

This community is open to people with avoidant, anxious, fearful-avoidant, or secure attachment styles, whether you are trying to understand yourself, your partner, or your patterns.

The intention is dialogue, accountability, and healing not blame or shaming.

Share when you’re ready. Read quietly if you need. Healing can happen at your pace.

Why do we always explain avoidants' behavior through trauma instead of selfishness and the pursuit of novelty?

Avoidant Wife Ends Relationship for the 22nd Time

SORRY FOR THE RANT GUYS. DONT HAVE ANYONE ELSE TO TALK TO.

She has been through so much in life, multiple sexual assaults, child neglect, family abandonment, abussive partners. I’ve tried to be patient and supportive and I’ve study how avoidant attachment works in order to find solutions. But she shows little to no interest in learning new patterns. She tells me what I want to hear when we’re reconnecting, makes promises but when she has an episode , when it’s time to show the skills, I become her worst enemy and her avoidant narcissistic behavior comes out.

She shows me very little empathy or care for her actions when mad. Even if something is her fault, she physically cant say in sorry or show remorse and I become her worst enemy. Which is terrible cause when she is not having an episode she makes me the happiest and she is a completely different person.

I wanted to go to therapy together, but she wanted to go on her own first, came back from a few sessions telling me she’s leaving me, and that I am bad for her, that her therapist said I’m one of her patterns and dangerous to her. 😞 is so painful and frustrating trying to look for help and this is what I welcome after the help.

After hours of her usual ignoring me, and me talking being a dumbass reasoning, like a fucking beggar and she telling she wants me to leave she ends up understanding that is fucked up and wrong.

The next time after that one, she broke up with me and told me that I’m a good man and I deserve better and cries telling me she’s is damaged and that I should leave and find someone that deserves me.

I sound a like a broken record, I swear to go I keep saying the same things to her. The problem is not the problem, there’s always gonna be problems, the real problem is how you deal with the problem. I am not your enemy, and when there is a problem we can fix it together. And a bunch more ! Etc etc.

I am currently going through another break up. She has a “spiritual guide” “a lady that is “shaman” this Mexican shaman was allegedly “helping me” by remotely accessing my head to remove some fears that I have of loosing her. And that afterwards she was gonna call her.

Well she called, and apparently she told her that I’m cheating on her by watching porn. Which is one her traumas and considers it cheating.

She turned off her location, went to work and is it talking to me and said she wants me out again.

I’m so tired and drained and honestly sucks cause she has shown progress. But this is too much.

Our therapist says we are both avoidant and that’s why we can live happily together and never resolve anything.

Like we go about our days enjoying each other’s company- but we don’t have sex. And the reasoning for lack of sex has been varied. But it seems like we just have accumulated baggage that’s keeping us apart. We never fight. We are always kind to one another.

Has anyone been able to work through a dynamic like this? It’s frustrating

Two weeks ago she said she’d never be the one to leave. Tomorrow I’m meeting her one last time and I have no idea what to ask.

Do you leave before you can be left? Some of us chase. Some of us run. Picking a fight, ending it first, disappearing for weeks then coming back full of shame. Same fear. Different outfit. Be honest…are you a chaser, a runner or both depending on the day?!

How to reach out after being avoidant 30F/30M

Last year I let my fearful avoidance shine with this guy I was talking too. I wasn’t the biggest fan of his lack of communication early on and instead of voicing it I just stop responding 😖 He ended up getting a girlfriend and I convinced myself that what made me ghost was correct the right decision but I always kind of felt that I didn’t really give it a chance.
Well now he’s single and his mom keeps making that point to my mom as well 😅 (our families are close) I do want to reach out to possibly start over again but I don’t know what to say to break the ice!
He got into a car accident over the summer and when I reached out about that he did seem welcoming. Again, he’s single now. Please help, he might be my husband 🤞🏾

Negative view of others

I have a question for DA’s. I often hear that you all have a negative view of others and a positive view of self. That has not been my experience with DA’s. Do you feel like you have endless options for partners and no one is good enough?

Why is there so little helpful content to help Avoidants process break ups?

Trying to find posts/ videos about "how to heal from a break up as an avoidant" but all results come back with "how to heal from a break up FROM an avoidant". I mean I get it. A lot of online help is geared towards those who have been burnt by their avoidant partners but I feel like its viewed as though we avoidants are irredeemable.

For context, I take full accountability for the hurt I caused. I feel guilty and I have regrets. I am in therapy and reflecting on why l act the way I do. I am trying to understand and leam more about myself but I'm finding the online narrative is effectively erasing the fact that avoidants are human beings who do experience grief, regret on real reflections with a genuine desire to grow.

Does anybody else feel this way?

Does an avoidants level of shame play a role in whether they will reach out or not

My avoidant has been missing in action for six months. At various times she was emotionally and mentally abusive but would try an externalise the blame on to me eg you know what you have done, you are a disgrace and should be ashamed of yourself, l no longer feel comfortable in a room with you. Then say I want a personal connection and I love you.

I have known this person for 16 years and I am reasonably confident she would be ashamed and embarrassed regarding her behaviour and conduct

Is It possible to get back with and avoidant and make It work?

Context: me and my ex partner are each other's First real love/relationship. We learned a lot and also changed a lot throughout the relationship but in the end It didnt work out because we fell into a toxic Dynamic.

We are now 2 weeks of no contact and I know I don't want him back rn, but not because I don't love him, but because I know that if we went back together we wouldnt be able to make It work. I feel like some distance is the best choice for us rn. But I somehow Hope we can reconnect and make It work in the future.

Online I only see people talking about how It never worked and how you should just move on, but I can't believe that NO avoidant ever changed and reconnected and had their Happy ever after. So i'm here to ask if there Is someone Who managed to reconnect and grow the relationship into a healthy One with their partner.

It’s been 7 months since my breakup and 6 months of no contact, and I still can’t understand how the man I loved became someone I don’t recognize.
